Japanese Kit Kats
Danreb V.

I'm not a fan of Downtown San Jose, but I've been here three times in the last three weeks, so I guess you can say I love this place. What you see is what you get here -- it's a Japanese convenience store with snacks, onigiri, and sushi galore. Come in a little late and a lot of the sushi and refridgerated options are 20% off. It's not that major of a discount, but the stuff I've consumed here is quality. The only things I haven't tried here yet are the service options like the ramen and the matcha, but I do love that there are snack items you can find here and hardly anywhere else. From Kit Kats to melon pan -- I haven't been to Japan yet but I just feel like this place is awesome. The only rough thing is that you gotta park at a garage or something. It's worth the walk though.

IMHO Okay, I only came here because my sister wanted to check it out. I normally don't visit newly opened, trendy, store openings due to the large crowds. I can wait till the hubbub dies down. The store is located in downtown San Jose, in the walkway between the Signia Hotel buildings. If you can't find street parking, you get to pay for garage parking, which is usually pretty expensive. (We paid $12...) We visited on a Sunday around 12:30, and the outdoor dining area was already jam packed. Inside the small store, the crowd was somewhat manageable. I came as an observer, not a shopper. I followed my sister around and took pictures while she shopped. There are aisles of Japanese snacks, packaged baked goods, kitchy gift items, teas, a Ramen station to make your own custom instant ramen, a Shiba Cha matcha drink counter, groceries, sushi bar, etc. It could be fun to wander around, but also a little claustrophobic. My sister filled her basket with some baked snacks, some coffee packets, and a big box of sushi ($17.99 per lb.) The sushi was paid for at a separate station so they could weigh the box, and the rest was paid for at the regular register counter. There is no one dedicated line that feeds into one payline, so just line up behind some people and hope you're in the right place. It's a cute little diversion but there are other stores similar to this one that are easier to get to without paying an arm and a leg to park. If you're a college student or work nearby, then go for a quick make-your-own ramen snack.

It's not quite a Japanese 7-11. It's more like a 6-7-11. Brought back memories of Japan, though they have far less drink, sandwich, and hot food options than a Japanese 7-11. They claimed they were out of egg sandos by 1230 but I didn't see a dedicated place for them. It's certainly not Japanese 7-11 prices, the whipped cream fruit sandwich was being just under $10! No Diet Coke w/ Fiber either (please message me if you find that anywhere in the state). The place excels with the self-serve ramen station, which reminded me of Share Lounge in Shibuya. It's not a destination location (like Daly City's Jagalchi), but it's a nice diverse addition to the area.

Amazing little market located in DTSJ! They have everything from groceries, makeup, and small gifts to a ramen station, fresh sushi, and a great selection of prepared meals in the refrigerated section. What really stood out to me is the matcha shop inside called Shiba Cha. It serves one of the best matchas I've ever had. I'd absolutely go out of my way just to get another one. With how popular matcha has become lately, it's hard to find one that's truly memorable, but this one definitely is. I couldn't find it listed on Yelp yet, but I have a feeling it's going to be such a hit once word gets out. It's definitely a hidden gem that's worth checking out.

Simply, this could be a good option if you are downtown and are craving some Japanese food without having the time to venture out to Japan town. I decided to come and check this place out because I was very curious to know what was in the store so I actually planned on coming here for lunch, but once I saw some of the prices for the meals a little taken a back. But it seems like they have a very good assortment of options because they have cheap Ramen, Matcha sushi and a whole bunch of other foods that you may be paying a slight premium on just due to the location/convenience.

Nice little Japanese market - still in progress but has great potential. The location is where Muji was but it is not the same - this one is a more like a small Daiso. They have great Japanese snacks and knick knaks. It is perfect for the SJSU students. The cool part is... they are in the prosess of adding a Sake Bar and Cup Noodle style Ramen Station. Check it out. Hope this place stays!! Will I go back? Yes...esp when the sake bar opens!

So happy that this place finally opened! It's quite big and has a wide selection of Japanese treats, food, grocery items, and even a custom Ramen making area! Very clean and it's still soft opening hours so it doesn't stay open late yet, but it's a great Japanese market!

Clean & organized Japanese market with ready to eat food & a variety of ingredients to cook dishes at home. Stocked with snacks, sushi & ramen you could cook yourself in the store. Ramen options include chicken, pork, vegetarian, spicy & mild. There's a refrigerated section, raw meat, produce, freezer section with desserts and a matcha drink counter. Love how the beauty products had plenty of try me testers. Great convenience store for students & travelers staying nearby. The downtown area has been needing a grocery store so this is a great addition. Note that there is no eating area available inside or outside of the store. The area is next to SJSU & Signia Hotel (previously the Fairmont hotel). It's a corner spot located in the Paseo de San Antonio. There is no parking lot, but metered parking on Market street by the park.

Instant ramen station!

Sakura Market had their soft opening yesterday and I was SO excited to visit! They have a huge array of grocery items, snacks, home goods, toys/blind boxes, frozen foods and beverages. They even have gachapon machines! The store highlights are definitely the instant ramen station, sushi station, and matcha cafe. We made instant ramen and the water boiling machines were a bit confusing, but super easy to use once you got the hang of it! I love that they've opened in the middle of downtown San Jose and so close to where I work. Looking forward to visiting again!

Came by to grab to go items for a casual dinner for the kids - parked a few blocks away at the city's 90 minute free parking structure and enjoyed the easy walk around SJSU to sakura market. I could imagine this would be convenient for students - decent mix of solo living items including cosmetics, to go and easy to eating freezer items, coolest part was area for filling your cup of noodles with hot water and being able to purchase sushi by the pound (17.99 per pound). The selection is limited so not for normal Asian market shopping and they over-charged us for the apples ($1.79 instead of the listed 99 cents) and then took some time to correct the error and didn't seem apologetic about their mistake. Market was decently clean, best part is location, wouldn't come back here again unless if I somehow was a SJSU student craving Japanese food

A very welcome and long awaited addition to DTSJ! My coworkers and I had seen this was going to open and to our delight they had their soft opening this week. The sushi buffet is great and I LOVE the set up of the ramen bar. Hoping they have some more prepared hot foods once the grand opening happens. There's tons of snacks, produce, food and prepared food in the refrigerated section. They also have a matcha bar! Definitely excited to sneak down on my breaks from work and grab something to eat!

Super excited to check out this new Market during their soft opening. Parking. A lil tricky if your not familiar with downtown one way parking streets. Since I knew I would be in and out (under 20min) I parked at the lot next to the 4 Seasons hotel. Parking was $8 I think. Not bad but a very short walking distance to store. There quite a few cute aisles here to go through including a frozen foods section, drink section and cold foods/prepped foods section. Loved all the many options for the Konjac Jelly dessert in a pouch (gluten free too!) There was a good variety of specialty tea, Japanese ingredients and gifts (cups and matcha tools) Japanese skincare and makeup. Chips snacks were aplenty. The Ramen station looks pretty awesome. Unfortunately for me I am gluten free and no GF noodles but for all thegluten people this should be a Ramen noodle lovers haven. So may noodles to choose from. I especially was envious of the add ons. Jammy eggs (in fridge case) mini containers of dry Ramen mix ins and more. I also seen a sushi Station that looked good but I did not try. Store was very clean and loved all yhe cute things they had to offer at cashier stand. Stickers Keychaiw and more. Overall 4 stars. (Why not 5? Nothing necessarily theor fault in store but no free parking nerlarby and unable to try the noodles so can't really rate this area) They did have a Matcha store attached inside but did not try. Not yet. Definitely will be back to shop and support. Oh and they did have a few studio Ghilbi items. I bought a Calficer purse for my daughter. Soooo cute!

The drinks are named after actual songs which is which is cool. I really enjoyed the So fresh So clean which was refreshing and not so sweet. Each drink is made with fresh ingredients. Their food menu is small but still has enough to choose from to snack on. The bartenders are knowledgeable about the drinks they serve and willing to help you pick the best drink for your taste. We did not get a chance to try the Alter Ego which is behind the curtain but next time.

Anyway, I met up with some friends here last weekend and we had a reservation at Alter Ego. I guess it's technically 2 places with Still OG. I have to say, I have really fond memories of Original Gravity from back in the day (ah, the days of my youth...) so it's nice that it's still sort of around though.. technically completely different since there's no more craft beer or duck fat fries lol. We hung out at our table for the whole night, like 4 hours. We all ordered cocktails off the menu and later on ordered some stuff off the menu based on the bartender's suggestion. I first ordered a Calabrian Spritz from the menu which hit the spot for me. Personally, I am not a hard alcohol fan but I enjoy wine and fun lil cocktails that are slightly sweet/not super strong lol. So this drink was nice because it wasn't too sweet and had a lot of volume (I like just sipping on stuff in general and it sucks when you order a cocktail that's like 3 sips of liquid and the rest is ice). The next cocktail I ordered was off the menu and called Like This or That (I think). I think it was some sort of passionfruit + vodka mix and very delicious! We also ordered the cold soba noodles and fries. Fries were crinkle cut and nicely crispy, no complaints. Soba noodles were also good, though some component of it was really spicy, I think the cucumbers. Overall I had a good time here and look forward to coming back, though given how little I go out, who knows when that will be haha.

I have never once been disappointed with a dish, and I love trying new dishes on their menu. The staff is awesome, and the place has a cool astehtic vibe. A solid 4 star, approaching 4.5 star…read more We had a birthday dinner celebration this Saturday night. The fact that the restaurant is in the heart of San Jose downtown poses pros and cons. It is a great place for bar crawlers and party goers, but in the day where we ran into a Sharks game, a $25 parking fee is an unavoidable loss. Eos & Nyx is big and pretty, it's hard to miss. The huge glass walls, green plants inside that reminds you of RH Roof are pleasant. The bars are beautiful, the tables are set elegantly. We were seated upstairs, the only thing I wish was a restroom upstairs, but the bar there was beautiful and we had less traffic, which was nice. I also like that each of the restroom stall has its own sink and paper towels. All they missed is a mirror, which was covered in the public areas of the restroom. Service was good. Upon checking in, we were warmly greeted by the hosts and the farewell was also proper. Brian took good care of us; introducing the menu, refilling water, small talks, clearing dirty dishes and replacing them before the next entree, everything is a check mark done right. I also got a card signed by the team to wish a happy birthday. Through and through, they presented the birthday wish warm and well. As for food, I like the options on the menu. Plenty of sharable choices, big plates for pasta, meat, pizza and also lots of drink choices. Even 0 proof has some fancy options. We ordered Hamachi Crudo, Leafy Things (Spinach / endive / strawberry / halloumi / pecans), and Scallops (Hokkaido scallops / legumes / wasabi / turnip / gremolata) from Sharable. Then we followed Brian's recommendation and picked Rigatoni (Short rib ragu / pecorino romano / peas / carrot) and N.Y. Strip 12 Oz (Celeriac espuma / black garlic / bone marrow reduction) for entrees. We wrapped it up with a Tahini & Caramel ice cream for dessert. The Hamachi Crudo tasted fresh and it has avocado mesh but a tad too much lemon juice for me. The Leafy Things was huge, but I think they replaced the spinach with cabbage and it was a tad too bitter. The chunky grilled halloumi cheese was a hit for the kid. The Scallops were pan-fried well, I didn't like the tangerine wedges in the dish and the wasabi was a bit too subtle. Our favorite was the Rigatoni, good balance of short ribs, el dente pasta and the right portion to share. We were disappointed at the NY Strip. It was sliced out for us, which was convenient, but I tasted some soft bones on the outskirt and the kid complained it was burned; maybe the charcoal flavor was too strong. What I didn't like the most was the unevenness of the sauce. Some bites we had a strong spicy kick while some bites were mild. This made the sweet potato puree tasted excellent. The ice cream was ok, nothing to write home about, in comparison, I prefer vanilla more as the tahini and caramel were too grounded and lacking that distinct piercing hard to forget aroma. In between dishes they brought in refreshments to cleanse our palates. I like the cucumber water, but both were pretty good. We also ordered a glass of Syrah which was good, blended well with the food and a glass of Mount Vesuvius (Santa teresa 1796 rum / passionfruit / pineapple / coconut / strawberry). The Mount Vesuvius tasted very sweet, just like pina colada. All and all, we enjoyed the night and left with an overstuffed stomach. I would do a girls night here as well, which is what the ambiance calls for.

Illegal bait-and-switch advertising…read more I was considering coming here after seeing their video advertising "$19.99 PRIME RIB TUESDAYS." What the video did not disclose was that you cannot actually purchase the advertised $19.99 deal unless you also make a mandatory additional drink purchase. Customers in the comments reported showing up for the $19.99 promotion and ending up spending around $45 per person. One customer repeatedly asked the restaurant to confirm that the drink was required because she had been told she could not get the $19.99 meal without ordering one. The restaurant confirmed the additional purchase requirement. That is bait-and-switch advertising. The $19.99 price gets customers in the door because they believe that is the deal being offered. Once they're there, they discover the advertised deal is not actually available unless they make another mandatory purchase, bringing the required spend to more than twice the advertised price. What makes this worse is that the disclosure about the required purchase was added after customers complained about being misled. I saved the original advertising and the comment thread showing the sequence. I'm reporting the advertising to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Consumer Protection Unit and the California Attorney General's Office. If your deal costs roughly $45 to obtain, don't advertise it as "$19.99 prime rib." Good luck.
