I was in the Kings Highway neighborhood at 8am because I had to wait 4 hours for my daughter to take a high school entry exam. I started to scope the area to figure out how to spend my time when I came across this gem. As soon as I walked in, the staff was welcoming and asked me if I wanted to sit down for breakfast or order pastries. Since I had some time to kill, I sat down and ordered a small Turkish coffee, which came along with a glass of water and a baklava. The water was necessary since the Turkish coffee was super strong. The problem was that it wasn't big enough. It eas served in a teacup that looked like it came straight out from Alice in Wonderland. It definitely was adorable but now I know to order a large if I want a normal sized coffee. While I was drinking my coffee, I noticed that the other table had ordered this appeasing dish in a skillet. I asked the waitress about it and she told me that it's a Turkish dish of tomatoes mixed with eggs, onions and peppers called Menemen. I asked for it and it was what I needed on a cold day. The combination was like an explosion of flavor that I needed to wake me up. It was also a lot for just $13.37. I ended up paying for everything with just a $20 bill including for a large cup of Turkish tea. One of the worst tres leches I have tried. Each culture does it differently which is understandable however this one fell flat. No flavor or sweetness that jumps out. It tastes like box yellow cake with whole milk poured on top. No aromatic flavors. $8 for the tiniest piece as well. The place is super pretty. Looks very clean inside. read more

A friend of mine brought baklava from this bakery to a dinner party at my house yesterday. I consider myself a baklava snob, having tasted some of the best while gallivanting through Istanbul Turkey. Pistachio baklava is literally my weakness, so when I put the pistachio rolled baklava in my mouth, you can only imagine the surprise, shock and utter delight I felt all at once. The filling was fresh, exterior pastry was crispy, buttery, soaked with syrup in every layer, yet still holding its shape. This is some of the best baklava I've had outside of Istanbul, and that is high praise. Came by in the afternoon for a quick snack after going for a walk around the area - place was quite spacious and accommodating of my baby as he napped in the stroller next to our table. Having never really tried a Turkish bakery before, I had no idea what most of the offerings were and the lady behind the counter was nice and patient enough to give me quick descriptions of the pastries they had. I ordered two savory breads but wasn't too impressed by the very scant amount of cheese and meat filling. The lentil soup was delicious, hearty and spiced. RUDE SERVICE The woman behind the counter was so unhappy and rude! Seems like she hates her job and people in general. Day of my visit-October, 18, afternoon. I don't want to get into trouble any other woman who may be working there. Plus she didn't know what she was selling. She said the pastry had meat inside, turned out it was with mushrooms... Other than me there were JUST two more customers in the cafe. So no reason for being so arrogant. There's NO WI-FI in the place. Or at least that's what the cashier told me. I've driven past Safir so many times and didn't have the time to stop. I made a beautiful eggplant dip for a friend and thought some pita or Turkish flatbread would be great with it. Well they wouldn't sell me the two packages of bread left because it wasn't baked this morning. They don't bake bread Sunday morning but they had simit! I've made simit and I think it's better than a bagel. Light, crisp and covered in sesame seeds. The baklava...on another level! They all look absolutely beautiful! I bought a small sampling of different ones, walnut, pistachio, not overly heavy on the syrup or too sweet. They are heavenly Baklava is one of my favorite sweet pastry to have and I will be going back for more. Store is spotless by the way and lovely people at the counter. American coffee is on the side and you make it yourself but they do have a coffee machine for something special and Turkish tea. We came here for brunch, pretty much spur of the moment after thinking we were going to Bay Ridge. Ahhh, sometimes things do happen for a reason. I've been in there before for sweet treats and both treats and service have always been delightful. Brunch was no different. First off the servers are very very, kind and attentive. We had a veggie omelette which came with a little salad and I had eggs Benedict with avocado. I love me some eggs Benedict and this place nailed it. So very delicious and enjoyable! I was craving for Turkish baked goods so I visited here last weekend. As soon as I enter I could tell this place was good. Very clean, nicely decorated, happy customers and workers. The girl who helped me was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I like to try baklava from many stores and compare. This place Baklava is pretty good. Very distinctive than other Turkish bakeries. It has after taste of butter and something tastes like condensed milk(?), maybe great for a couple or a few piece. Then it becomes too sweet to me. So i could not eat whole a lot but perfect for a few pieces. The bread there are very delicious. I have been looking for my favorite Turkish bakery and So far this place beats many places for it. Chocolate croissant is super delicious. Nice dark chocolate but not bitter, and perfectly flaky outside. I never had that good one ever. The spinach and cheese pastries are great, too. Its usually very strong taste from other Turkish Bakeries but one from here has less strong but still has good flavor. Even my sons who usually hates those bread enjoy it for the first time. Been coming here for years. The Turkish tea is my go to. For breakfast I recommend the Menemen Eggs and some fries alongside a piece of freshly made Baklava. Prices are fair, customer service is very attentive and they recently expanded so there is plenty of seating. It's a nice spot in the neighborhood to catch up with friends over some burek or baklava. Chocolate baklava, walnut baklava, weird stringy crusted baklava that my friend likes but I'm impartial to; I walk out fatter than if I've visited my grandmother. They serve them individually and by the tray, so I've found them to be useful treats if you're planning a gathering like a picnic. I've sampled their burek, which is made by a nearby... factory? I dunno, but I suggest passing on those as they're usually limp and sometimes lacking in filling. I was in the neighbourhood picking up dinner after visiting the beach, and I thought Hey, why not pick up some of my favourite tea. I ask the folks in the restaurant and they sent me over to the bakery. When I arrived, they were on their A game. Their social distancing plan and sanitizing table was great. I was able to get in feel comfortable browsing the baked goods without being crowded by other people. The cashier was super nice and ended up getting my tea with a ladder. I'm so glad I got it! VERY very consistently good. I always come here for the savory BREADS. The Phyllo pastry ones when you reheat them SHATTER. The feta cheese ones are my guilty pleasure. Fat and carbs and a hint of tang. Everything you want. The other boat shaped bread with the meat filling is the top one for me. Any bread gluttons need to try this, it crumbles and chews like a biscuit. The dough itself is well seasoned. I want to know if they use lard butter yeast? So great. read more

There are so many pastries here that I didn't know what to do. At first, I tried asking questions and trying to understand what all the pastries were. But I was overwhelmed and she walked me through the process. If I wanted a small or large box, if I wanted to choose or she could choose and whether or not I wanted an assortment. Luckily, she selected and arranged a large box for me. It was beautiful and there was at least one of every pastry. It turned out to be approximately $27, which is understandable. All of the pastries were super sweet and decadent - some were flakier but there were some that were different shapes that were softer or harder. My favorites were the chocolate baklava, the gooey circular one and the white gooey square one. I will definitely be back for these Turkish desserts. read more

Ordered a box of Baklavas with 2-day express shipping.. But they send the Baklava using the ground shipping even though I paid 28$ just shipping alone. And when I called them multiple time mostly I was reaching there voice messages boxes, and few times they picked the call. And they promised me to issue the refund at least three times. But never happened. Even the Baklava delivered after 7 days was not that great and it was soggy. No response from them on that part. I have that common Asian taste of having a predilection for light, subtle desserts but will always try anything sweet enough to make my throat hurt. As such, the fact I enjoyed Safir Bakery is both surprising and unpredictable. Arrived around 7PM on a Monday. Pretty empty and quiet but with all their baklavas available for purchase. Can order their baklavas and specialties by lb, 3-4 piece sets, or individual pieces. The price for sets and individual pieces are on display inside the bakery (Sorry, got distracted by all the sweets to take a pic). Ordered: - Walnut baklava - Pistachio baklava - Şöbiyet (baklava with clotted cream topped with pistacchios) - I think Sarma? (Has a lot walnuts with filo wrapped around it and topped with pistacchios. It's in the pic with the sobiyet so please correct me if I'm wrong Safir or fellow Yelpers!) - Another dessert I forgot but it's large and triangular and supposed to have less/no sugar but still has honey. $3.50 a piece. The highlight here is their WALNUT BAKLAVA and what shines most is the quality experience you get from a bite: The nicely thin and layered filo on top, delicate enough for a light flaky resounding crunch but not so much that it'll fall or break apart easily, and the flavor and body of the inner filo and walnuts creating an actual contrast of texture and consistency. Light top, dense but not heavy middle and bottom. Has less honey/syrup drench so this is the one to get when looking for interesting texture and something not too sweet. Better than Mamoun's where theirs is sweeter and dense from the top down with thicker layers of filo. Everything else is a little or a whole lot sweeter than the walnut. That's not a bad thing. Initially tried everything unpaired and walnut just so happens to be the one that can be eaten alone without a drink.Thought the PISTACHIO BAKLAVA would be similar but turned out sweeter than expected with a bit more syrup, a little denser with a little less crisp. This was the case with the rest of the pastries. Similar in color and seem like they'd taste the same in terms of shared ingredients yet in reality there is a range of difference in terms of texture, consistency and sweetness. For this reason, think about what you like and look for in a pastry dessert. Knowing yourself and what you enjoy is key. In my case, I can't help my lack of a sweet tooth so pairing the more overtly sweet pastries like the large triangular honey one with a black tea helped to tone down and balance out the sweetness. Haven't tried their Turkish tea but this is your chance to! As Samin Nosrat says: "The main point of eating is not to do it the best way. It's to have the most pleasure". So I recommend ordering at least the walnut and pistachio. From there play around with what you add-on to your order purely for exploration like their chocolate baklava. If you have a major sweet tooth, just ignore me and order whatever your heart desires (or whatever sounds the sweetest!). The lovely young woman behind the counter will answer any and all questions you may have, make recommendations, and customize/organize your orders to your liking. Turns out Safir Bakery is the largest whole sale Turkish bakery in Brooklyn and I can believe that as I've seen their pistachio baklava sold in Sheepshead Bay Fruits & Vegetables. But I'll choose freshness over convenience any day so I'll be back to try the rest of their pastries as well as their breakfast! 3.75 stars. read more

I came in on Thanksgiving day to pick up some treats for my friend and her family. The space was smaller than I expected. Another customer was being helped so I wasn't able to see the baklava at first, but an employee immediately greeted me and asked me what I'd like. I wasn't as familiar with the names of each pastry so I just requested a 1 lb box of the square cut baklava with pistachio, 2 triangular cut ones, and 1 kanafeh (shredded dough) Everything was quickly boxed up and the total came to about $22, which wasn't bad. I throughly enjoyed each pastry but I thought their regular square cut baklava was the best. There were so many crispy top layers and it was soaked in the honey syrup. The middle layer had a good amount of pistachio and it tasted fresh. My only small critique was that the syrup could have been even more floral and fragrant, but that's my preference. Will definitely return for more baklava and to try their other delicacies. read more

I love this place, good food, now you can even seat outside. Everything is fresh, you can see them baking in the back. As far as service, there are 4 people, male owner, two young girls and middle aged female who is possibly also an owner. The first 3 are great, especially the girls. Very friendly and helpful. The last one, I don't know if it is me but she is rude and somehow overcharges all the time. I often order tea there, when you eat inside they give you a standard glass cup, they are all the same size. She asked me one time if I had a large or small tea, I showed her the cup and she charged me for more than I usually pay. I tend to order same things over and over and every time when she is there she charges more. Aside from that lady I really have nothing but positive things to say. As someone who suffers from a food allergy that requires me to carry an epi pen a huge pet peeve of mine is places that are either unaware of their ingredients or haphazardly tell you "no" when you ask if an item contains certain allergens. Unfortunately Safir Bakery falls into the "bad allergen" information category. We wandered in here on a Sunday early evening looking for a selection of pastries to bring to my grandmother's. After selecting two gorgeous mini cakes from the case (a mousse cake and an Oreo cream cake) my eyes were drawn to the cannolis. I asked if there were any nuts, as oftentimes there are pistachios, etc. in the filling and I was told "no" feeling safe, we also grabbed four chocolate cannolis, and a Napoleon for good measure. When we began feasting at my grandmothers house, my SIL and father both immediately noticed a taste indicative of nuts in the cream of the cannoli and a tiny lick of a spoon full of the filling confirmed that in fact there were some nut products in there. Sadness and woe. The chocolate mousse cake was delicious as was what everyone else ate. Docking a star for lack of product knowledge as hey...that's important. The woman behind the counter was very nice and helpful and everything in the place looked delicious.
