I came here the other day because I had a BAD craving of kunafa that absolutely had to be fulfilled or it felt like my world was gonna fall apart. I have read a lot of praises for Antepli's made to order kunafa and called ahead of my arrival to go pick up this kunafa. My first thoughts were, wow the exterior is really crispy. This kunafa is really made with care and attention to detail and it shows. However, the flavors left me disappointed. First of all, the dough has excess of butter. When you bite in you get a mouthful of grease which is unpleasant. Secondly, the ratio of cheese to dough is way off. I expected this kunafa to have way more cheese and the cheese they use also tastes like ... nothing? No saltiness to contrast the crunch or the sweetness of the syrup. Speaking of syrup - there is just not enough of it or it is just not sweet enough. When I think of authentic Turkish kunafa I think of the cheesy salty-sweet wonder that is Harfiz Mustafa in Istanbul. This kunafa does not come close and I hate to write this because it truly did make me sad. The baklava on the other hand - very very good. Heavy on the pistachio and not too crazy sweet, but definitely needs a buttier flavor. I think the whole shop would benefit from using a little bit more aromatics like orange blossom in their syrups. I do also wish they had seating so you can enjoy your sweet treat. Despite all these notes, this is still a solid shop to get your dessert fix. read more

I ordered the large pistachio and cheese, kunefe. I brought it to my sister's house for dessert on Thanksgiving. I called the restaurant and the lovely woman who answered the phone told me she would package it to travel. When I received the dessert from the driver. It was packaged perfectly, I didn't need to worry about it coming apart. When it was time for dessert, we put it in the oven on a low temperature as advised. Then we poured the two liquid sugar syrup's over it, and that made it even more delicious. When we put it on the table, everyone couldn't believe how beautiful it was. And then when we cut it and eat it, it was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend this dessert. It's a beautiful presentation and it's delicious. read more

This place was right next door to the Brooklyn Baklava place. It almost seemed like an extension but it was a totally separate store. We walked in and there were display cases of tiny looking Baklava in front of us. A few minutes loaded and a lady came out of the backroom to help us. I asked if I could sample one of the Baklava before buying. She was kind and gave me one of the traditional ones. It was a bit mushy but tasted good. I ended up buying an assortment of Baklava which was sold by the lb. They also sold the viral Dubai chocolate bars there but I didn't buy any. They also had kunefe but by then I bought the baklava assortment and didn't want to go overboard on the sweets. There's always next time. The lady was patient with me as I decided what I wanted to buy and rang me up. Next time, I'm going to buy some Turkish ice cream as they have various flavors to choose from. I went a while ago after going to Ayat maybe a good 15 minutes away or something similar. I've been to their New Jersey location (in Paterson in a strip mall) noting that they have some of the best Turkish baklava period. The woman in here was patient and she was friendly enough to the newcomers who hadn't had the varieties of baklava. I got two types of pistachio baklava; Fıstıklı sarma/pistachio roll and special fıstıklı/double pistachio. It was around 10$ for several pieces though I did get the fancier varieties as pistachio rolls tend to cost a lot more. The baklava was of course excellent though it's hard to justify going this far to Bay Ridge just for it (I believe a certain overpriced grocery store on Atlantic Avenue sell their products.) They also sell künefe also known as knafeh or kunafeh (among many other names depending on country.) The Turkish version here comes either normal or special which is topped with pistachios. I previously had it from their other location and if it's anything as good as in Jersey, I would highly recommend it and the portion size is more than reasonable for the price. They make probably the best Turkish variety I've ever had of it though I prefer the Middle Eastern version with rosewater and either semolina or shredded filo. Finally, they also notably selling Turkish ice cream; also known as Maraş dondurması (or in short Maraş or dondurma.) This ice cream is notably chewy and thick from the additions of salep and mastic which provides a fun texture. There aren't that many other places selling this I would have gotten some but I stuck with the baklava and they only had the larger containers of them. Good little specialty Turkish dessert spot. If you're in the area, I would definitely go to pick up some of their outstanding baklava or the other two things. Mid 4. read more

We were in the area for dinner and I knew I wanted to stop at Antepli Baklava for dessert. We've been to Antepli Baklava 2 in Paterson, NJ and enjoyed it. I'm giving this five stars based on the quality of their baklava. I do have to somewhat qualify the five stars by mentioning that this location doesn't have seating (the Paterson location does) and therefore we would have had to order the kunefe ahead of time and take it to go. We did get a delicious selection of baklava and I ate it on a bench they had at the front of the restaurant. Always kind ladies that works here. The desserts are always very good. I usually get their walnut and pistachios baklava and tried other desserts from their fridge. All really good. I once even had their fried dough stuffed with sweet custard and another with walnuts and soaked in syrup; this is only available during Ramada. I've been dying to try Turkish stretchy ice cream ever since I've seen it featured on Instagram by Republic of Booza (who has remained "temporarily closed" since the beginning of COVID). After an abundance of research, and being turned down by Tanoreen who claimed they only offered it to "dine-in" customers and not as a takeout option, I was able to find this intriguing dessert here at this little Turkish dessert shop! The ice cream came already prepackaged. It was imported from a company from Turkey and thus, not made in-house. While the appeal of having it scooped in front of me was nonexistent, the experience was relived at home after leaving the tray to thaw for a few minutes to a melted and sticky consistency. The flavors were all delicious! Their vanilla was creamy, milky and tasted of real vanilla beans. The chocolate was also delectable, but resembled a taste and consistency similar to chocolate pudding than ice cream. I wasn't quite sure about my feelings towards the pistachio flavor, however. To be fair, I never consumed pistachio ice cream in general, so I wasn't sure if the taste was up to par with normal ice cream. It was slightly sweet but boasted a nuttier flavor complimented with bits of chopped up pistachio nuts. The girl who took our order was busy texting all the time. She was unaware of us entering the place coz she was looking down at her phone till I said hello. We ordered coffee and when I gave my card she said minimum $10 for it which is against the law. Anyways, she never took her eyes off her phone even when she was making the coffee. The coffee came a bit thicker than the Turkish coffee should be and it usually is served with a small piece of sweet to balance the taste but there was none. I was very sad to see Sweet Arayssi close but happy that at least it has been replaced by an amazing baklava place (and the owner of Arayssi is still in the store, bringing her magical touch to the sweets). I rarely rave about baklava but after trying this place I have realized why. Having had many stale baklava throughout the years, I finally experienced what fresh, just-made baklava tastes like - and it's pretty freaking amazing. I had the intention of walking in to get a piece or two but after the owner offered me a piece to try I was addicted - and walked out with a whole container of different varieties. They have many different varieties, and the worker was really helpful in helping us pick out what kinds to get. We left with a container FULL for about $16, not bad. Was searching on Yelp for desserts around the Bayridge Brooklyn area. Found this place specializing in Baklava. Walked into a nice, clean spacious place with a few chairs and tables. Everything on display are Baklavas. There are basically 5 types of the dessert, and are charged by the pound. I got a dozen of mixed Baklava for $12 bucks. First bite was heaven, extremely sweet (made with sugar glaze not honey though). But after a while found each different baklava tasted exactly the same. It's good to know that such a place exists, specializing in this wonderful confectionery. Delve into why I awarded them 4.2/5.0 For a place to bake one and only one item is a huge risk, in my opinion, as it leaves such a store susceptible to the ebbs and flow of retail. Although they carry coffee to cut the sweetness of the baklava they sell, there leaves little else to the imagination. So they're good however the lack of variation besides shapes and different types of nuts leaves me wanting more choice They sell three varieties of baklava, one with cheese, pistachio, and walnuts. Very traditional, and that in itself is endearing, but strangely outdated for where Bay Ridge is headed. Overall, they've clearly mastered the recipe, exactly the way I remember it with aroma and taste, time and time again. For that, they're excellent and deserve top marks.  Typically sold by the pound, they boxed my order up in a plastic container to go. My wish is to call upon bakeries to take risks and modernize baklava, much like what pastry chefs do in the restaurants, to keep this treat relevant with the times. Nice new baklava shop on fifth avenue here in Bay Ridge. I love eating baklava with coffee in the morning or for desert after dinner. The baklava here is most delicious and quite the treat. I use a fork to eat my baklava and one is never enough. My favorite is the pistachio baklava but the do have other flavors. There is only 7 ingredients in baklava and man less is more ... I've been a fan of Baklava ever since I was introduced to the middle eastern/Mediterranean treat back in 01-02. I discovered Turkish Baklava which became my favorite a Sahara Restaurant on Coney Island Ave which unfortunately closed down a couple months ago. I've been craving these treats for a while now, when I came across this on Instagram and found out they had a location close by boy was I excited. 2 days ago a got 2+ pounds and I've have eaten them all by myself now. The tea was 2 dollars and the sweets were 5 dollars. The tea was overpriced in my opinion. I like the sweets here because they are not super sweet compared to other places. I can't agree more with other reviewers here, simply the BEST baklava I've ever had. I know there has always been a battle about who makes the best Baklava (Greeks, Turkish, Syrian, Lebanese..etc etc), after tasting Antepli's Baklava there is no question for me. Some may think it to be too sweet, and it is, but there is a rich, buttery smoothness that I never experienced with any other Baklava. I prefer the walnut Baklava since walnuts are more neutral in flavor vs. the pistachio. You can tell which is which by the color of the crushed nuts on top of the Baklava. Most of the Baklava is different shapes but the same flavor. They charge by the pound (I believe it was $10 a lb) and they do take credit cards. I was never a fan of Baklava, but once I tasted Antepli I was a convert. I have not tried any of the other desserts. If you are in Bayridge Brooklyn and like Baklava or want to try it for the first time, Antepli is a must. read more
