Clean store had a couple rude cashiers and I saw a woman letting her goat follow her in the store I asked the cashier if I was the only one seeing this... to which she replied "no, but I dont know if I can do anything about it." Finally pushed me over the edge. For years I have shopped at the Safeway on Missouri Flat Road in Placerville, and have noticed on many occasions how rude and unhappy their staff seem to be. I have had employees in nearly every department act like I'm in THEIR way when shopping. Of particular note are the dairy aisle employees (the worst) and the employees in produce. They pull out huge rolling carts full of boxes of items needing to be stocked, then park them in the way of the shoppers, then act like it is a pain for them to move so the customer can actually get to the items they'd like to purchase. Regularly the store under-staffs, so that when you are trying to use the "speedy" self-check out and you run into an issue which needs a clerk's attention, all of a sudden it takes forever to get out, because the one checker has to do both the checkstand AND the self check out. This kind of poor staffing actually means it can take longer to check out than if you just stood in line with everyone else. There should never be a time that shoppers are in the store and there not be at least one other employee to come and help check or to help bag. But, the worst thing of all is when the lone checker gets several customers in line, doesn't bother to call for any help, and chats her face off while NOT bagging the customer's groceries until they are completely checked out. REALLY? You can't perform two tasks at once? Funny, because I have seen many checkers bag WHILE they are ringing up the items for purchase... And it really doesn't help that Safeway obviously doesn't offer early retirement for their elderly checkers. The problem being that they simply aren't accustomed to doing more than one thing at a time (as slowly as they feel like), unlike the store's younger employees. The checker I encountered this morning is easily in her mid-60's and clearly not to be rushed, no matter how many people are in her line. She would clearly rather jibber-jabber her way through the entire transaction and only when the customer is completely rung up can she be bothered to figure out the bagging situation (i.e., don't bag WHILE ringing stuff up, wait until the VERY end). Enough is enough, yeah I will have to pay more at Raley's, but I won't leave the store stressed and pissed off, as Raley's staff are efficient AND extremely pleasant, something Safeway could use some lessons in. read more

The older lady with the long grey hair really needs to pull her hair back! She's a nice lady and all, but her hair hanging down as she checks grocery's is so unsanitary, her hair touches the food, there's also another older lady who has long white hair she too needs to pull her hair back. Call me old fashion I don't care, I just think its disgusting her hair hanging in the food as she scan's. Also your people who work there sure act like they don't want to be there, Not very friendly, especially the ladies working at the Starbucks. They should be Thankful they have a job! My friends and I stopped at safeway to buy alcohol. The three of us buying alcohol are 21. The cashiers scanned our ID's and did all precautions to make sure we were all 21. After we went through the register and already payed, a manager named Nicole, immediately starts screaming at us saying she won't sell to us because one of our other friends (not buying alcohol, only buying chips) left the store. We were refused service, and harassed by this manager until we left the store. She even took off her mask, pointing fingers and yelling in my face. Had this been dealt with in a respectful manner, and had she explained that this was a store policy not an actual law, I would not be writing this review. There was no reason for this manager Nicole to accuse us of breaking laws when we weren't, and being rude and causing a scene. read more

I arrived at the placerville Safeway on July 15 2021 at 1:25am to use the ATM inside the store. The checker who was checking proceeded to tell me that the stores closed and it closed at midnight I told him on the internet it says 2:00 a.m. and on your door that we walked in from says 2:00 a.m. sorry we're closed he said bad customer service he wouldn't let me use the ATM machine because they were closed contrary to what their front door says and the internet says.. read more

I'm not really sure why everyone is giving this Safeway such bad reviews. This is our normal grocery store we shop at because of the quality products and cleanliness of the store, as well as the friendly workers. Their produce selection is really good, I've never bought anything bad in that department. The shelves are always stocked when I go in, and this is a busy place. Anytime I need anything Safeway always has it. The meats are the best we have found as well, especially the steaks. So all in all this is a nice grocery store with friendly workers, great stock and it's always clean. I shop at Safeway periodically. It's my grab-and-go place for one or two items. Last night I went in and purchased one item and bought 10 bags through the self check. I have done this many times with no problem. The person running the self check humiliated me by coming over and having to check the receipt to make sure I purchased the bags because she claimed they didn't show up on her register. Then she counted the bags out in front of me that I had already put aside. She was impressed that I got exactly the right amount. Yes, amazing.... I learned how to count 40 years ago... That doesn't suddenly make me a thief. I will not be going back anytime soon. read more

So I've always thought this was a pretty trashy place but today was even worse. My mom bought me an electric toothbrush from here and I asked hey my mom got me this and it's not the one I wanted so I bought the one I wanted. I was hoping I can just exchange it for a gift card since we will obviously use it. The blonde haired pixie cut ----- just stares at me and is like so your mom needs to come in and we need to fill out a form with corp. so then I asked OK we fill this form out with corporate and then she comes back in a week and is able to get her money back or how does that work? She said no she has to come in and fill the form out with corporate and corporate will call and ask her a series of questions such as when she bought it in where she bought it and I was like well she obviously bought it here that's why came back here (it should be noted that the electric toothbrush box that has never been opened has the store number and the Safeway emblem on it) and then from their corporate decides whether they want to give you your money back. I think that it is entirely bullshit that you have to cling to a receipt in order to get even a gift card. I think that it's bullshit that we need to fill out a form with corporate and they decide whether or not my mom gets her money back. Or a gift card. The funny thing is my mom told me to return it so that I can get a gift card. I really don't understand that process when the Safeway next to where I live has literally let me return corn on the cob that had a bug in it without a receipt after I'd already went home and unloaded my groceries. So Placerville Safeway that is the last time I go in there. Super frustrating when you're more polite as a customer then the person that's working the customer service desk. read more

I had been going to this Safeway in Placerville for over 30 years and was so proud when the virus started that everyone was wearing a mask. Well two days ago I went and a large amount of customers were unmasked and just merrily walking around the store. I was appalled that these customers would be so callous and egotistical to think only of themselves and not think of the health of the employees of the store and the other customers. I immediately contacted the manager and was told that they do not stop customers if they do not wear a mask. I informed her that it seemed as though it was a well orchestrated move since I had never seen it like this before. I have since contacted the Corporate Office to raise my concerns - if customers are going to be so selfish and think only of themselves and not the health and well being of the employees and other customers and if Safeway is not going to care enough for the safety of its customers and employees, then I am done with Safeway. There is a virus out there and if customers and employees are not protected from those selfish people who think they are too good to wear a mask, then Safeway you have failed. No one wants to wear the mask - it is not fun - but people wear it to protect others. So selfish people think what you are doing. The store used to be better. Now? You stand in long lines and the checkers can't talk and work at the same time. And, they love to talk. All scanning or bagging stops while they wag their tongues. There are so many additional displays on the floor now that you can barely get down an isle. Don't come in on a Sunday after church either, unless you want to spend more time in line than you did in the sanctuary. You'd think that Sunday after Sunday after Sunday, someone would think to get ahead of the after church rush and get some extra checkers on the line, but nope. We're headed to Raley's to higher prices, a cleaner store, and faster check outs. read more

I've had enough of this store. They don't have some products that I like. This wouldn't be any surprise, but they are very common products. The butchers will be working behind the counter while your waiting for service and look up at you and act like your not there. This has happed more than once. I brought a package of chicken breasts home once and they stunk. Not like rotten, but like that smell meat has, but really strong. I took them back. Tonight we made tacos. The shells were stale. Really bad store. The following is an update: My wife just called as she was leaving here. She stood in line at the butcher for quite sometime. Finally her turn and the guy says " I'm clocking out. It will be about fifteen minutes before someone can help you." We're never returning to this store. read more

Not sure what is going on with this store, one that I have shopped at regularly for 5+ years. The last 2 weeks I have experienced many open shelves and a short supply of products I usually buy and not products that were on sale either. First it was the meat counter, which had NO 80% ground beef and NO pork chops. Yesterday, they were completely out of bananas. (What store runs out of bananas?) Premixed salads looked like it hadn't been stocked in days. No regular green onions either, only organic. And as per usual, something that has been a problem at this Safeway for as long as I've been shopping there, the dairy section had NO 2% milk, UNLESS I wanted to pay a premium price for organic. It is very hard to continue to shop at a store where you can't be sure of what they'll have and what they won't. Very disappointing. read more

I'm not sure if being indifferent and often down right rude to customers is part of Safeway's training, but it is a regular part of my shopping experience. The employees who stock are by far the worst, but it seems to be pervasive throughout the store, even including the beverage (soda, water, etc.) guys, who aren't even employed by Safeway. It's as if the "bad attitude" from the Safeway employees transfers off onto their vendors. The worst departments are the produce and dairy stockers. They pile up boxes, carts and even themselves, and make it nearly impossible to walk down the aisle. And don't even come down the aisle and expect anything less than a sneer as you attempt to make your way through their highly intentional and difficult "maze" of carts and items to be stocked. Simply stated, they are just rude. But, the produce stockers (specifically those who stock the salads) are by far the rudest of all of Safeway's employees. They down right refuse to move out of the way of the bagged salads and will remain in the way and pretend not to notice me even after I've said "excuse me", (as if they don't realize there is a customer there trying to shop). Again, just rude. Well, I have taken nearly three years of the rude behavior and dirty looks from the employees of this store and finally decided today that I will not give them another dime of my money. Raley's may cost a little bit more, but I've NEVER had a bad experience when shopping at the Placerville Raley's store. The store is immaculate, and somehow they don't seem to have the attitude that I should get out of THEIR way when attempting to purchase my household groceries. read more

Great travel stop and great place to avoid downtown traffic of old Placerville. It didn't show up on my iPhone maps app so I added to yelp. Found it using Waze App. read more

This Safeway has a gas station, and I LOVE it! The worst part though is that the gas station itself doesn't have a bathroom. You have to go into the Safeway store to use a restroom. This can be a hassle if you are in a hurry, or on a road trip and not wanting to make multiple stops. I stop here a lot, and I think that the deli should be open later, and really, why do they need to have a Starbucks inside the store when there is a real Starbucks on the corner? This is a busy and apparently successful store. I don't understand why. I've been going there for years but only when there's a compelling special or I need and item not stocked at the SaveMart across the street. I think people are misled by the Safeway gasoline discounts that look worthwhile and ignore the fact that they are paying 20% extra groceries. Getting air at the gas station involves waiting in line to have the attendant turn on the pump, finishing two or three tires done before the pump shuts off and waiting in line again for it to be turned back on. If you want to buy something on sale be sure to read the fine print. You will find exclusions and often what you want will be on sale just a day or two. Or the special will be out of stock. The store is difficult to navigate. As a marketing strategy, similar items will often be widely separated. This makes it needlessly difficult to find things and contend with other carts blocking the way. At the store today I needed a bottle of Marsala wine for cooking. They stock one brand, barely larger than a normal half bottle, at twice the price I usually pay for cooking wine. Safeway knows full well that most people will overpay rather than drag themselves to another store. A lady in the same isle needed Cognac--again, they had one brand at $60.00 a bottle. Avoid this store unless there is a special so compelling they pay you to shop there. read more

Everytime I shop at this store the lines are outrageous! Yesterday I had to leave a cart full of food because I only had 20 minutes to check out and there was no way I could do it in 20 minutes with the length of the lines. I thought they had a 3 in line open another lane policy but that is clearly not the case here. So only shop here if you have no place to be and plenty of time to waste. read more

Love Safeway gas! I'm able to use my rewards and get a lower price on gas. It's not very busy in the wee hours of the morning to. No long lines. Thankful for that when I'm running late and need a fill up. Wish the little store had a few more options for treats and drinks. Usually find great customer service here, but late last night, our cashier (older lady, believe her name tag read 'Debbie') was a total snob to me. I tried being friendly, asked how her day was, she responded with a sharp "good" (didn't ask in return). And ignored another customer when politely asked if she had a trash can. I usually don't review places, but I am so upset about the way my situation was handled by management. I utilized their "Grab and Go" service where I order online and they bring it out to my car. It started with having a ton of incorrect items and missing items. When I ordered online my charge was 160.00. I was told my new charge was 212.00!!! Knowing this was incorrect we found out their fruit scale was broken and they were charging me 45.00$ for grapes and 25.00$ for a few plums... I was assured these would not be charged and the price on their receipt would be reduced to the appropriate amount for the groceries I received (85.00 less). I checked my bank account the next day and I was actually charged the full 212.00$! I called management and it was all excuses and how they have no control over how this worked out for me. The manager also told me it will be a 5-7 day wait until I saw any sort of refund. I should have never been charged 212.00 in the first place. I'm frustrated because there was ZERO customer service!!! I've been a Safeway customer forever, but I feel like that doesn't matter. read more
