This review is for the online delivery service. No, it's not perfect but it works for me as I can't drive after my surgery. The web based Safeway site is fairly easy to use. Once you add everything to the shopping cart, make sure you edit the substitutions. For some of my items like distilled water, there are no substitutions but you have to specify that. Other items I'm not as concerned such as allowing organic green onions to be substituted for regular green onions if they're out. You have to monitor your cell phone messages if they're wanting to suggest a substitute; otherwise you won't get a substituted item. I wanted a large box of Valentine's chocolate tonight but they were out of stock and suggested a smaller box. I responded on my smartphone that the substitution was fine and that was delivered. The delivery was super fast and within the delivery window they specified. I may continue to use online ordering and delivery even after my recovery. Give it a try! Just make sure you monitor your smartphone messages. read more

Ordered two graduation cakes, one white cake with apple filling the other chocolate cake with raspberry filling. All the guests were super excited for the chocolate cake and when we cut into it, it was white cake, which is kind of a bummer. They were beautiful and well executed other than the actual cake Especially for a graduation. read more

This Safeway is awful. When you order for delivery they don't tell you half the stuff is missing, so they charge you the full delivery fee and there's no way to cancel the order. If I don't get my full order I want the chance to cancel it. And it's not the first time. The manager there is no help at all. They also never send the "free" items and of course the $5 off coupon gets canceled as well. Just awful business. Zero stars for them, just have to put one to be able to write this review. AWFUL!!! read more

I picked up some chicken tenders today. Probably one of the worst chicken tenders I've ever had. Crust was so hard it was difficult to bite through. The chicken was extremely dry. These had obviously been sitting for a while. Considering the time of day (approximately 4:30) I was expecting fresh product. I don't know if I'll ever order from their deli again. read more

I have been a SW shopper for 40 years ... No More. I was there today and had 3 bad e3xperiences. 1 the ice cream I bought was on clearance but at the checkout the checker would not check it, I wanted to by a pork roast which was very large and the botcher would not cut it in half for me. I asked the veggy man about the two different packages of grape and he was nasty, my eyes are bad and I have trouble with some print. Way overpriced compared to other grocery stores, and I can never come here without them being out of something, usually multiple things I need. The thing that motivated me to leave a review is they had one check stand open at their busiest time, and the line for the self checkout went half way down one aisle. I waited patiently, got near the front to be told it was a line for the register, not self checkout. No one in front of me knew that either. We all thought we were in line for self checkout. The people at the check stand had a massive cart full of groceries, and the actual correct self checkout line was as long as the one I started in. I set my groceries on the go back cart and left. If they can't be bothered to help me spend my money there, I won't. read more

I just left the checkout line and a darling little girl Grace was ringing up my groceries and some of the meat didn't come up at the sale price so she needed a manager to come in his sister. A woman named Tina came over to his sister and talked to her poorly and belittled her in front of the long line of customers telling her that she needs to be better at math and how to do her job and it was extremely unprofessional and poor little Grace felt so defeated. I called and spoke to Colby the store manager and told him what happened and he seemed to just brush it off but if this is the way Tina talks to people she needs to be reprimanded. Tina you've got to do better and Colby you've got to have higher expectations for your team! read more

constantly closing multiple hours early even though they are the only store open past 11-12:00 in the whole area. Uses the "we are under staffed over are closing two hours early" option for months on end but also throw in the "we are closing two hours early because the comouter systems" every once in a while. the only time I have the option to shop is 12:00-2:00am most days of the week and they purposely close early instead of doing what they used to do and having one of the stockers handle the register when customers are ready. read more

The prices are high, but what's worse are the "mistakes" that the cashiers seem to make that charges you extra. $18 for a spaghetti squash because the cashier rang it as something else entirely. It had a sticker on it, so should not have happened. Is this theft? It seems to happen often for the store's benefit; all I can tell you is pay attention and check your receipts. read more

Very crowded store during their busiest time of day. Shoppers were lined halfway day the aisles and there was only one check sat nd open. I waited in line for over 15 mins to check out, when I finally made it the register, a woman came to cash out the drawer before I was helped. I asked her if the were any other cashiers available as the line was huge. She rolled her eyes at me a said I'll let the manager know. All the employees in this store always have the worst attitudes and I'm kind of tired of this treatment. Aren't groceries costly enough without this inconvenience being shoved down my throat, while buying over $200 worth of groceries. I'm gonna stick with your competitors from now own. The store manager, is not a kind person. I've heard from several team members she will scream at you at the drop of a dime. I understand having to leave your problems at home. But sometimes that is unavoidable. Life throws extreme circumstances at you and there's nothing you can do. I witnessed her screaming at an employee a few weeks ago. . if you are in the position to run an entire store, I think you should be able to handle issues with employees professionally. It really saddens me that she could not compose herself well enough to treat that human being with respect. You can discipline appropriately while being calm. . In no circumstances should you have to speak to someone that way. read more

One star because I have to. My mom shops here weekly for the past 15+ years. Today, July 12, 2024 she purchased $65 worth of deli meat for our annual family vacation. When she got home she noticed that it wasn't in the bag and went back to the store to get it. Ashley was her cashier and the manager told my mom that since she didn't have a bagger they couldn't confirm that the deli meat didn't make it home with her!! This woman is a saint and would never lie - especially over $65 of deli meat. They even had video of her at the checkout but they still wouldn't give her what she bought so she had to buy it again. Thanksgiving was saved by the friendly and helpful deli staff. I cannot imagine the stress these lovely and dedicated staff had to put up with due to the glitches and mistakes and misrepresented information on the Safeway app but the workers saved the day for my family. I showed up to collect my pre-ordered holiday meals to find a pre-cooked yet frozen turkey with thanksgiving dinner expected by my family less than an hour from pickup. The amazing folks working helped me find some solutions that worked and kept the day stress free. read more

Typical Safeway, but this one gets busy evenings especially heading into the weekend. The deli has sushi. They keep it fairly well stocked and clean. I find that many items like ketchup and some canned food are actually cheaper at Target or Costco. read more

The food is food, if you need food, they have food! "Food" might also be subjective, considering what passes for "food" these days. "Service" is lacking and some of the employees either need a long vacation or need an adjustment to their medications. Check-out lines are hardly that, unless you count giving up and just leaving your items in the cart somewhere around the area where you would be "checking out" and going somewhere else? This is a review for the floral department. After a mess up, we needed bridal bouquets in 2days. The floral department did an amazing job! Big kudos to the deli department. ordered online sandwiches, fruit, and vegetable platters for our wedding. We also had it delivered. Delivery was on time, the sandwiches were fresh and beautifully platted. The fruit was succulent and sweet and the vegetables Were fresh. Even the Ice made it in 103° weather without melting. I like this Safeway, but just as a tip...use caution when having Cindy make your sandwich. We came in today and we said we'd like to order sandwiches. She huffed and turned around to put her gloves on and loudly said (to another worker) "I'M SO DONE WITH MAKING PEOPLE SANDWICHES TODAY". Wow...ok. Sorry you're having a bad day. So my husband continues to order as she is speaking so loud to us that other customers are actually turning around to see who is screaming "DO YOU WANT LETTUCE?!" "I DON'T HAVE ANY MORE PEPPERS!" Jesus lady... I whispered to my husband and said ill skip the sandwich! I'll make a separate trip to Subway just so I don't have to get yelled at and embarrassed for another 5 minutes longer. (Btw...she had on a paper mask, so yelling wasn't necessary) Honestly hope her day gets better. As my trip moved on...i got some Lobster from the guys in the back. Geeze these young men are so nice and helpful! Cashiers are generally nice and speedy to get people through. Thats always appreciated. The produce is some of the best in town and the store is very clean. Although I don't like when the mop lady chases me down every isle. Masks are required which I don't mind of course. But no one is following the "ONE WAY" signs on the floor. I don't care, but one lady had an absolutely hiss fit, cursing at another customer for "NOT FOLLOWING THE SIGN". Good grief people. My wife and I have been using curbside pickup for most of our grocery shopping during the Pandemic. We have been going to Raley's in Placerville and have been very pleased by their service and organization. For a change, we decided to try Safeway because they had a few items that were not available at Raley's. We ordered for a 2:00 pickup. Arriving promptly at the prescribed time we called in to the store and was told that they are "behind schedule". We were informed that the delay would be in the order of 30 minutes. Not happy, we decided to wait. At 3:15, that's right, an hour and 15 minutes later still no order. I called in to the pick up number and was told 10 more minutes. At about 3:30 the order finally arrived. I was so miffed that I called in to the Manager who said she was sorry. That's not going to cut it. I will not be using Safeway again. Why do that when Raley's is much more on the ball. Yes, they recommend that you wait by your phone to get a message that your order is now ready for pick up. I'm sorry, but we live over an hour away from Safeway. Waiting around the house would not be very practical. Albersons does not have a very good rep down when we lived in SoCal. I guess that they have passed on their business skills after their acquisition of Safeway. read more

most importantly, they seem to be complying with covid-19 safety precautions. Hand sanitizer and cart wipes at the front door, and I saw people using them. This store has been struggling for so long now, and they can't seem to get their shit together. It's more of a hassle to shop here than not. I continually give it chance after chance since I live so close. When are they going to make it a priority to give good (I'm not even asking for great) customer service? Nobody bags groceries, they rush you out, I always feel like I'm going to forget something, people are practically stepping on you when they are next in line. It gets old. When is corporate or management going to do something about it? Is there no incentive since it's the only one up here and people come anyway?! What a joke. Went into this location with my 95 year old mother earlier today. My mother had a bunch of questions/issues (regarding the mailer, Club card, using her phone number, etc) and to say I was petrified of how this visit would go, would be an massive understatement. Needless to say, and by the grace of God, Karen was working Customer Service and didn't have other customers that needed immediate help. Karen provided the most incredibly patient answers to my mothers somewhat difficult questions. I'll be ver be able to thank Karen enough to the time, patience and kindness she showed my mother. It's a big modern grocery store. The variety that, as far as I can tell, is in almost every town. In fact, it appears that they even create the same layout and feel in other stores. I recently went to the Rancho Cordova store and found it to be very familiar. Anywho.... Selection and quality is pretty good. They have some organic produce and the usual stuff. The meat counter is pretty good as well. My favorite thing is the grass fed beef. Somehow, Safeway seems to have a better selection AND a better price on their grass fed beef when compared to other local stores; kudos! I'm not a fan of the bakery. The bread/baguettes they produce are just not the kind I like. It's the kind of bread texture with the small uniform holes and soft feel; like Wonder Bread. I like artisan breads to be more chewy, thicker crust, with mismatched air pockets inside, but that's just me. The stuff in the middle of the store, is well... the middle of the store stuff. Doritos, cans, cereals, candy, etc.. the stuff that lasts forever in your cupboard and in your stomach; meh. Deli and wine section are decent. Once you make it to the checkout lines, you're totally hosed! ALWAYS a problem. I am not sure what kind of methodology they apply to accommodate the volume of customers, but they need to rethink it. Dropped in here hoping it could become my grocery store since Raleys management is loose on mask protocols during a pandemic. Unfortunately a person walked in with no mask right before me, and when I got in the door I saw another customer with no mask. Not trying to catch Covid so I will only buy groceries at Fork Lift in Cameron Park, where they take it seriously. I guess Placerville wants to make some kind of weird point... so I'll just stay away until there is a vaccine I guess. read more

I do the grocery shopping in our home and I have become quite a fan of the Safeway Rewards program. This Safeway is clean and well stocked and the staff is very helpful. The only reason why I cannot give more than three stars is all-to-often they simply do not have enough checkers during the time they are crowded. I have waited thirty minutes to get though a line and on the average depending on the time of day it can be 10 to 15 minutes. It is my thought from a management perspective they will have to do something to correct this chronic issue. The staff is wonderful and I have always been treated with a smile and a great attitude. The late bake for the bread is pretty amazing. I will continue shopping here with the hopes that they will improve the amount of checkers they have on duty. By the way the parking lot can be quite a challenge to navigate for parking. read more

I'm so frustrated with this store. Cameron Park here I come. Repeatedly visiting the Placerville store ...no carry baskets at all or if there are any, all piled only at one door. Why does every other grocery store have plenty of baskets and orders more when needed? Does this manager get a bonus by making inconvenience for customers? I am boycotting this store for good.
