This is the Safeway in Hawaii Kai. The store was ok. You can tell that it's not one of their newer stores. I was here the day before Christmas and they were out of a lot of items. The cheese section was depleted and the cereal that I was looking for was gone. I asked the stock guy and he told me that he brought out the last two boxes from the back earlier and someone bought them. I do love that they have a sit down area sectioned off for the Starbucks in the store. In town, they only have the kiosk for Starbucks. The sit down area is on the outside. I saw a lot of people converging in the center of the store. It turns out that all the Christmas candy was 90% off. That's right, 90% off. The Hershey's bags that are usually $5-$6 a bag was less than a dollar. I got seven bags for around $5. It was definitely the best deal in the whole store. They have a branch of the Hawaii State FCU in this place if you're a member.

SW Friday deals. 12/29/2023. Poke bowl $5. Deli ham $5# Maui chips 2 for $5

Store manager Dane is hard working, personable and friendly. Been here many times. Good layout of Store, easy to find items. Came here for $5 poke bowls, deli ham off the bone $5#, Maui chips 2/$5. Normally go to Costco in the shopping center next door, Hawai'i Kai. There are 6 self service check outs, which is very convenient. Parking lot is Normally busy. CVS, McDonald's, Bale, Texas 808 are in same shopping center

Now that Safeway has expanded, it is quite big! Definitely worth the wait because it feels like a new store. The aisles are very spacious and the shelves are more organized. The meat and seafood section and the deli has expanded lot. There's even a larger selection of fresh meat, seafood, and poke. Even the produce section became more spacious. The staff is more friendly and upbeat, and a lot more cashiers than before. Plus the addition of self-checkout, no one super long lines with slow cashiers, especially on Friday's! We all know Safeway is oddly way more expensive than other supermarkets. Some items are even more expensive than Whole Foods too, but if you use the Safeway App with your Safeway card, there are many awesome deals, and even some FREE items. The more you spend, the more you earn points and rewards. 4 rewards can get you $7 off anything from the meat department. Speaking of meat.... Beef. Holy cow, the prices have gone up quick. You go to Costco, and the price of beef have been increasing like crazy. And their beef isn't even that good quality any more. If you buy USDA Choice from Costco, I highly recommend going to Safeway, especially when it's on sale. Under $10/lb, and on certain Fridays some cuts are just $5/lb. It's amazing when you can get a large tray of meat for under $20. Recently got a huge bone in ribeye that was an awesome deal that I had to tell others to get it. Overall, I've been shopping a lot at Safeway after barely going. The store is so spacious and clean. Everything is good quality, especially the meat section. I find myself purchasing a lot of meat here because of the excellent price.

This Safeway is a very convenient location for those of us lucky to live on the East side of Honolulu. It is also one of the few grocery stores that carry my favorite gilt free "Two Good" Greek yoghurt. Their fresh produce is also to my liking, with a wide variety of organic and local varieties. The fresh flowers are also eye catching. Especially the Orchids that grow so vibrantly here in Hawaii. This store also serves up some of the best local fresh spicy local Ahi in their seafood department. Safeway specials add to the lure of using your Safeway Club Card for additional savings. Love the lonely Palm Tree outside the main entrance welcoming you with Island style Aloha. Staff here is friendly and follow all Covid-19 prodigals of masks, gloves, sanitizing and social distancing. A regular shop stop for me!

Don Quixote? The titular protagonist of Miguel de Cervantes' 17th-century Spanish novel, often considered the first modern novel? No, not him. Side-quest unlocked: Go to Don Quijote to looks at Trader Joe's-like bags and peruse affordable macadamia nuts. Imagine if a Japanese convenience store, Costco, Walmart, Japanese pop culture, and a late-night snack gremlin all moved into one building and decided to co-habilitate. That's Don Quijote, or as locals lovingly know it: Donki. Don Quijote is Japanese discount megastore in Honolulu where you walk in for one bottle of water and somehow leave an hour later with Japanese cheesecake, body wash, a rice cooker, novelty socks, a plush penguin, Spam musubi, an ankle brace, and at least one item that made you say, "Well, I've never seen that before." Every aisle is an adventure. It's part grocery store, part pharmacy, part souvenir shop, part beauty supply, part snack paradise, and part "why are they selling this and why do I suddenly need it?" The shelves are packed to the ceiling, the signage is loud, the deals are good, and the whole place feels like a treasure hunt designed by someone who drank three Red Bull Kyoho Grapes and said, "More products! More fun! No empty shelf space!" The Honolulu location is also gloriously open 24 hours, which means it serves a very specific and beautiful type of chaos: jet-lagged tourists like myself, night owls craving Japanese curry, and people making questionable but spiritually necessary 1:11 a.m. purchases. TL;DR, Don Quijote is less of a store and more of an experience. A slightly overwhelming and delightfully unhinged retail adventure.

We also tried the chicken katsu, which had a light, crisp breading and came with fluffy white rice topped with furikake. And even after we moved, we would still drive out just to come here for the seafood. That's how special it was to us. The reason why he chose Tamashiro over other grocery stores was simple--it was quality and because of my Nanay (grandma). His mom purchased from here and made so many delicious dishes. He knew what to look for, and he trusted this place. For him, it wasn't just about buying food... it was about getting the best for his family. My dad isn't the type to say "I love you." He shows it. One of the biggest ways he showed love was through his cooking. Even after a long day on his feet cooking for others, he would come home and cook for us. That was his way of taking care of us. I loved coming here with him. It was a five-senses overload--the smell of fresh seafood, the sound of people talking story, the colors of fish on display. Back then when you were allowed to sample a grape or poke to make sure it was good before buying. But more than that, it was time with him. I still remember the excitement I felt when I saw the pink building with the huge crab. I thought back then was to look at everything but now I understand that it meant something more..... something special--time with my dad. It's with a sad heart that Tamishiro Market is now closed.
