The prices at Walgreens seem to be a bit higher and their stock is limited. They're always out of what I want to get, unless I go for a few days in a row and check for it. This location is bigger than the rest. They had some Valentine's stuff out, the usual candy and stuffed animals. The pharmacy is way towards the back. I browsed through the beauty department along the way. The photo department is near the front by the check out area. They have bodyboards near the entrance, since this location is near the beach. You should sign up for their free rewards program. You enter your phone number whenever you purchase anything and accumulate points. This review is for the pharmacy... Pharmacists are always helpful here. But I've always had attitude and issues with the pharm techs that's uncalled for when all i want is assistance. Techs need more training in better communication with clients to stop being defensive when clients ask questions and to be upfront with client options instead of clients prompting techs for assistance and options. I even lost some hard earned money because of their poor communication and client service. Do not recommend. Switched to Costco pharmacy as cheaper and no issues. Should've done a long time ago instead of patronizing here. Disappointing... read more

I will have to admit, I am not the biggest fan of Walgreens, as CVS Longs Drugs is my goto spot whenever I need stuff from a drug store. I don't know about you folks, but I could be wrong about it.........for some reason I always think that the items sold at Walgreens is a little more expensive than buying the same items at CVS Longs? But to be fair to Walgreens, whenever there is a sale item - for instance sometimes I am able to buy some pretty cheap laundry detergent from Walgreens, then I would say it's a super dealages here at Walgreens! My adventures to Walgreens the other night was to only go in there to buy some bottled water, as I was pretty thirsty after working out on a super hot Saturday night at 24 Hour Fitness. Since Walgreens no longer uses that Walgreens card, all you have to do now is sign up with a clerk at Walgreens (a clerk help me sign up, as my Walgreen card was no longer good) then from there, just punch in your phone number, then bam! You get a discount! Bought two bottles of water (1.5 liter size) for just $0.88 each, how's that for dealages???? Located at the Koko Marina Shopping center, this Walgreens store in the Hawaii Kai neighborhood has easy access, as there is plenty free parking within the shopping complex. read more

Most items were reasonably priced, though trial-size lotion was double the price compared to New York, similar to California. Access to this location requires a car as it's not situated along the Honolulu strip. Overall, I recommend stopping by, especially if you didn't notice similar items at the ABC store. read more

DO NOT SHOP HERE Absolutely appalled by what I witnessed this morning. A customer raged, and yelled at a senior citizen who was waiting in line. What triggered this? The senior citizen simply asked a member of staff if they were working the cashier (the other customer was having a lot of stuff being rung up). He was asking, very nicely, what I thought was a reasonable question. The other customer, a large and intimidating male, just let loose! I've never seen/heard anything like it. Yelling and raging! After the incident, the staff member accused the senior citizen of being rude (he wasn't), and supported the angry outburst by saying the person was "only sharing his opinion". We don't treat our senior citizens this way. We don't verbally abuse them. So Walgreen Koko Marina staff member "Mike", you should be ashamed of yourself for endorsing such appalling behavior. I've been a customer here for more than a decade, but not anymore. It's not a safe store to be in. Walgreens, you need to train your staff better. read more

Pretty reliable for minor but needed things. Usually when I come to Hawaii, I come here for some generic advil or other minor things. However, the main reason is to get some Protein powder. The options are Costco which as you would expect is a bag too large for 1-2 weeks. Therefore I end up here for a container that is 15-21 servings. I know being back in Hawaii you should just eat some poke, kalua pig, or seared ahi but still need the protein powder. We also got some 16 oz plastic cups for the kids to use which have been very helpful read more

After moving from Maui to Hawaii Kai because we thought staying with the company would make the transition for our prescriptions simple, we went with this Walgreens. NOT! We went to the pharmacy to arrange for our prescriptions to be transferred to the Hawaii Kai location. Didn't happen. Went back in to set it up. It didn't happen. Kept getting notices from the Maui Walgreens. Went in a third time to get our account transferred. Third time was not the charm. Yep, went back in a fourth time. It worked. But not without a bunch of attitude from the pharmacy assistant. She tried to make me look like an idiot. But at least she got our account transferred. We don't need that. So we have completed getting all of our prescriptions over to another pharmacy. What a world of difference in attitude and competence. read more

As I was walking up to the main cashiers counter/station to pay and check out, I noticed there were no cashiers on any of the station. Then I saw a female staff walking by me and she quickly grabbed a snack item and walked back to cashiers station. It appeared she placed the snack item somewhere below her cash register. She then proceed to help me check out. I can't help but to wonder, did she just steal a snack from her own store? It appears that way but I will Report what I saw and management can investigate and decide what actually went on. As I was checking out, I requested the staff to please type in my Walgreen reward card number because I did not want to touch the keypad due to Covid. She declined and said she does not have the capability of doing so. I find that to be repulsive, since I've been to the store multiple times with other staff being able to enter my Walgreen reward number from their end like Longs Drug. I had a poor shopping experience at check out tonight which is not generally the case. As I was leaving, I saw the staff's name tag, her name is Ciera. Bottom line, if management is reading this, I would ask that the store to have some kind of protocol for staff to purchase items vs just letting staff take items without paying for it as they wish and leaving the cashier stations unattended. It's reflects a poor image of Walgreens from a customer's perspective. Second is for a cashier to enter a Walgreen reward card number to help out a customer at their request is simply good customer service and should be honored. If the store wish to stay competitive. I really like this Walgreens as it has a lot of things to buy. I like their seasonal things too as you find many items you can't get anywhere else. They seem to be always well stocked. My problem this time was with the rudeness of the local female cashier on Sunday 1/2/22 around 2 pm. I was standing by the batteries, which are locked up and need a key to get. The batteries are right by the cashier stand. I didn't say a word to this cashier, as she was ringing someone up. As I was waiting, she looks at me and very rudely asks me what I needed. I ask her if she could unlock the battery so I could buy it, a big sigh comes out of her.....where she then abruptly comes over and unlocks it. She seemed put out and angry. I didn't even say anything to my husband, but he could see how rude she was, making a comment on the way out. Did a Nordstrom return at the FedEx counter at Walgreens. No customers at check out so clerks were chatting, not noticing (ignoring) me at the FedEx counter. Wouldn't even look my way. Apparently the clerks man the FedEx counter, too. Stood there for 10 minutes until a FedEx delivery guy came in with a hand truck and told the clerks a customer (me) needed to do a drop off. I'm a Longs Loyalist, always. Walgreens just doesn't feel like a store for locals, and it almost never has any good deals, but when there is deals or when I need something specific and Longs doesn't carry it, I'll check Walgreens. This Walgreens is located in Koko Marina, next to Petco, in the old Foodland location. There's ample parking space since it's a pretty mellow shopping center. The store is bright and clean, and pretty organized. What great about Walgreens is it's APP. I can search for specific items and it'll tell me how many are in stock at each store. The Hawaii Kai store is almost always stocked with everything. The staff here are very friendly, courteous, and helpful. Much better than Longs. Sometimes they can be TOO friendly to customers and not mindful of the long, line of customers waiting in line and you're the ONLY register open. Less chatter and keep the customers moving! Overall, I wish Walgreens had better deals and prices, offer items less Mainland-y and touristy, and more quality items. read more

I've been to this Walgreens about three times and everytime I come here I just love it. The store is so clean and there is just about everything that you would need all in one store. As you may already know Hawaii Kai doesn't have a whole lot of grocery stores. One to be exact. One day I was too lazy to go to that grocery store so I just decided to stop in at Walgreens. I needed ginger root. I didn't think that they would have it but they did! And it was cheaper than the grocery store. Just the other day I went to check it out again. I had some extra time so I just decided to peruse the aisles. They have a ton of stuff. Anything you can think of you could probably find it there. I used to think that Walgreens was more like Longs but it's not. It's a pharmacy but it's almost like a grocery store or like a smaller scale version of Walmart. If you look really good too, they had some great specials. I found some school supplies for 70% off. And some candy was really cheap too. I can't wait to go back and check it out again. read more

After 5 minutes of answering questions about my personal info Melissa from the pharmacy told me they don't have my prescription because she failed to check the fax and then refused to give me my prescription because she needed to "check" something with the prescribing doctor before giving me my medicine. The prescription was sent in yesterday so if she needed to check something with the doctor she should have done it yesterday before I cane in. Now I have to wait for her to contact me and come come back to the pharmacy to get my medicine. If I could put no STARS I WOULD, The pharmacy staff is a joke, especially the guys working there. Their policy is Lunch before the customer. My daughter was there before 1:30 speaking with the staff for her meds and mines. I asked to speak to the staff, because they had an issue with my brand and needed Doctor approval, I asked for my other meds that they have been blowing up my phone about picking it up because it's ready. They tell my daughter they don't have it. Again! Im looking at it on my phone that it states it's ready for pickup. I told her to just pick her up prescription. While my daughter is asking the staff, she would just like to pick up her prescription, I can hear them rolling down the gates and telling her to come back at 2pm. WTH! Who does this crap, Well.... To be frank, I wasn't really a fan of Walgreens until today. Since last year, I've noticed how aggressive Walgreens have been opening stores all over Oahu. Pretty much they've got the stores scattered around! Back on 4th of July I came to Maunalua Bay for the special celebration. When checking out the various booths, one of them was Walgreens and they were passing out cool swag (pens and large snack clips). At first I declined but there were some aggressive elderly ladies who didn't hold back and ended up grabbing extra and put them in my hands to take. After that incident, I felt inclined to shop at this store... After my Koko Head hike this morning, I had to pick up some eggs and Walgreens was the closest. It was shortly before 8am and because it was a weekday, the parking lot was empty. MAJOR PLUS for me. I walked into the store and it was very bright and clean. It seemed somewhat deserted as I only saw one other customer in the store. I immediately found the eggs so I grabbed a carton and walked to the register. Upon ringing me up, the clerk asked if I had a "card" for savings as the eggs were on sale. Confused, he explained that it's very similar with other stores (such as Safeway, Foodland, Times, etc.) and it wouldn't cost me anything to sign up for it. He then asked me to input my home number and when doing so, it registered my sister's name!!! My sister previously shopped at Walgreens and signed up for further savings. So my dozen eggs were reduced from $2.79 to $1.99! That is a savings of almost 29% - - I was floored!!! I'll admit that I'm still not used to the Walgreens brand of goods but with savings like this, it's sure worth a try in my opinion. read more

I've visited this location well over a dozen times because it sits in the same shopping center as my workplace. This store opened about eight months ago and carries all of your basic essentials. The reason for the poor review is hardly the fault of the employees. Well, only one aspect of service but we'll cross that bridge in a bit. The first, and most obvious demerit, is their lack of selection. Walgreen's has their own line of products called Nice! So you will see Nice! paper plates, Nice! crackers, Nice! diapers, Nice! cough syrup everywhere... which is fine if you also offer the brand name of (insert Dixie, Cheez-It, Pampers, Nyquil in the appropriate categories here). But they don't. They may offer one, maybe two other brands but it's obvious that they overpush their line. And when you need a tried-and-true product and are disappointed with something Nice!, it can get frustrating. They do, however, have a fanciful array of beverages so if you plan to hike up Koko Head, swing over to Walgreen's and get hydrated. The prices are steep. I've gone in actively looking for cheap deals and it's a challenge. Perhaps making essentials more affordable will bring in more business. The layout of the store is strange. The first few aisles are designated for toys, Hawaiian Host chocolates, and crackseed. Tourists must love it but not a fan with the locals. And if you are looking for basic groceries like cookies, crackers, soup bases, nuts, and seasonings, you have ONE aisle to choose from. So what do they use all their space for? I've seen one aisle designated just for beef jerky opposite the juices and milk. I'd recommend to the store manager who is in charge of inventory to zero in on what the customer needs to help bring more revenue into the business because this doesn't seem to be working well for them. Another misstep on their part is the cashier line. It's usually a ghost town in there so one would assume that checkout would be swift. Not the case. Perhaps it's because the cashiers don't have a sense of urgency that they run at a painfully slow pace. I sound like a pair of grumpy gills when I say it, but my coworker can attest to this claim. She purchased a $0.79 bottle of water and it took her well over seven minutes to checkout. Not a "convenience store" in my book. There were no computer hiccups. Or credit card blunders. It was a matter of the cashier asking my coworker if she had a loyalty card, and had her fill out the information then and there to receive the sale price. And before she knew it, she was answering a dozen questions with two minutes of lunch break to spare. Pricebusters was literally five stores away and she could have gotten that same item without the headache. In all honesty, the saddest part comes from what used to be there. Foodland was a locally run store that served East Honoluluans for 47 years that had what you needed, at the price you wanted. The transition is like night and day, but hopefully Walgreen's will bring better selection at decent prices to satisfy the average customer. read more

I love this Walgreen's! All of the workers that I've met were so helpful and courteous. They seem to have everything! If you can't find what you're looking for, just ask a worker and they'll take you to the item. I prefer them to Long's were the workers are always in your way and never apologizing or helpful. In fact, most of the stock clerks at Long's are so rude. Anyway, I really love Walgreen's! read more

This pharmacy has now for three times not had my prescription on hand when I've asked them to stock it and told they would do so. I go in and they have to order my medication and say they will partially fill my script but I have to pick it up the next day and cannot take it with me. This store has absolutely no empathy! My fiancée had our two young kids (3 & 1 yrs old) and my dad was also with them. My dad is holding 1 kid and my fiancée my baby. So, they each had 1 hand to carry a case of beer. My dad is clearly 60 yrs old and my fiancée is 35. They walk up to the cash register and my dad is the one purchasing the 2 cases of beer. My fiancée didn't drive because he left his wallet in my purse (I'm at work) so my dad decided to show his ID and pay for the beers for the football game. The cashier said that my dad can't purchase the beer because my fiancé was helping him hold the one case!! Are you kidding me?!? He is holding it because my dad is holding one of my kids and you know how hard it is already to shop with a child let alone 2 children! Then she proceeds to say my dad can't come back for 24 hours!! I hope they don't have any employees under 21 helping stock shelves. Perhaps the manager should give a case of beer to the cashier so she can lighten up. I will never return to another Walgreens and I'm sure they're fine with that. But someone needs to check on the cashier she seems miserable with her life as she is also lacking empathy. read more

I'm a fan of this Walgreen's, though I was super sad to see the previous occupant of the space, Foodland, close up shop. I'm an admirer of drug stores in general, which I find quite odd about myself. I'll have to meditate on that some time and figure it out. I'm here usually for some snacks, drinks or some remedy when I'm not feeling so well but I suggest if you do make it to this or other Walgreens you keep an eye out for some pretty nice deals - look for the yellow tags. I know I can often find Oscar Meyer bacon for sale at $4 a pack in their cold case - bacon ain't cheap these days and this is a pretty sweet add-on on the way to the register. Their store brand snacks have changed recently and not for the better, kinda disappointed about this. My kids love perusing the candy and toy areas. read more

I'm still a bigger fan of Longs/CVS overall. However, I noticed Walgreens tends to have new products (especially drugstore brand makeup/skin care) before Longs does. I strongly recommend signing up for a free account on their website for photos. They periodically send emails for free 8x10 prints/collages. You just upload your photos, enter the free code and pick up your free print....easy peasy. They also have a free "Balance Rewards" card program where you can earn points toward your future purchases, and receive special discounts on items. Not only can you earn points from your purchases, but they also have ways to earn that encourages a healthy lifestyle. Points can be earned for walking/running or weigh ins. I do not recommend this Walgreens. I was unhappy with the service and the cashier kept making comments as I was having a private conversation with a family member. It was very scary and confusing. Normally, the front cashier staff are helpful and friendly. But, the person working on the photo department tonight was scary. She said she was the manager, but made inappropriate sexual comments. I don't know why this store has only 2 stars. It's clean and packed with more than most of the other Walgreens locations that I've been to. There is a great selection of beauty products and all the other typical items that drugstores have. The pharmacy is helpful and knowledgable and I never EVER have to wait in line. Even when they're busy, they have an area where you can fill prescriptions on a computer there and pick them up when they're ready. No long lines, slow employees or hassle. Everyone that I've encountered at this Walgreens is helpful. I typically get asked if I am ok or if I need help on anything to let them know on average 4 times per visit which is nice because sometimes you need information on a product and you don't have to search for anyone here. In comparison to other places like Longs/CVS, the pharmacy line is shorter and they get beauty products/makeup/hair products that are new releases much sooner than Longs does. Longs is usually at least a month or more behind beauty product launches, Walgreens has it every time I go after seeing a commercial on tv. Love Walgreens and so glad they're in Hawaii Kai! read more

Maria, the pharmacist here is very knowledgeable and friendly. She always remembers my name, my kids names and goes above and beyond all the time. She takes the initiative to call me when my prescriptions are ready, or calls my doctor if I need refills, and if she doesn't know the answer to my questions, she will go out of her way to research it for me. I just left there. & the gentlemen I had assisting me at the register was very kind & quick. However, on the next register over... Cindy was having an issue with a younger boy & something about his iTunes GC saying it has already been used. Now, duh. This seem sketchy. But CUSTOMER SERVICE -- you work in customer service, well manager Jessica was literally SO rude. Like be customer oriented. Well, she was extremely rude to this younger boy. Who was barely pushing 12. & was EXTREMELY rude to Cindy as well. It made me wanna not come back to here because she literally was so rude. TO A LITTLE BOY!!!! Not cool Jessica. read more
