Hot food- fried chicken, tots

This Foodland location isn't too far from the airport and in between the Honolulu Airport and Costco. While waiting for one of our friends to land, we grabbed some groceries and of course had to grab our fix of poke. They also have hot food like fried chicken, tots, and other things to eat too. It's a grocery supermarket store that all of the locals also go to and it's a quick in and out to grab your stuff. I like to get their fried chicken. My friends like to get their poke- salmon, tuna, mussels, octopus, kimchi, seaweed salad, cucumber salad, garlic, and a side of rice. You can choose what size portions you want as well. The cashiers and workers are friendly, if you want to use the restroom the workers will escort you to the back of the store. Be sure you have a Foodland number or account to get all of the discounts.

This location has friendly cashiers. The poke was fresh and delicious. The tako and mussels did not have flavor. They also ran out of my favorite dip, kimchee.

Super friendly and helpful. I walk past the meat section to buy some fresh corned beef. I went up and down the Isle twice. Didn't see it, so I asked the butcher, which was doing some stocking. He walked me over to the cold cut and Hotdog section. Then I went to get some miso paste. While going down the aisle, a worker asked me if he I needed help in finding something. I told him that I was looking for miso paste. He pointed it out. I passed the miso three times. It was in a container which I had never seen before. Checkout was a breeze. Very good friendly. Kudos to Foodland. Enjoy

Foodland was my first stop after landing in Oahu. Solid poke with huge range to choose from. Lotsa food in general and very clean grocery store. Be sure to ask for poke samples!!

Our go to place to get poke in Oahu! I think this is our first stop when we land, our mid trip stop, and our last stop before the airport. There are definitely some amazing poke places around this island but Foodland is quick, they have a lot of options, and they're consistently delicious. There are also so many locations that you can easily stop by, pick up your favorite poke and head to the beach or the park. I'm a salmon lover so the shoyu salmon is usually my go to but we also throw in a pound of tuna for a balanced diet. If you can find won ton chips to go with them that's the best, but you can't go wrong with tortilla chips or the snack seaweed.

Grocery shopping in Kalihi, Honolulu, Hawaii... What's so special about Foodland? It's a local grocery store that supports small businesses. I've found a lot of unique snacks for family and friends. The baked goods are from bakeries such as Nanding, Valerio, and Jesse's! If you need a lei for a birthday, graduation, Boss' Day, etc., Foodland has some! You can also get regular items like produce, greeting cards, and cleaning supplies. However, Foodland is known for its many varieties of poke and the cleverly designed tote bags! The deli department is quite good, too - for hot entrees and food for potlucks! I like to go on Thursdays when "kupuna" get a 5% discount! That's when I stock up on baking ingredients - especially Nata de Coco (coconut gel) for almond float! This location has the green colored coconut gel - it's good for the holidays and for variety! Foodland has a good Rewards Program - the Maika'i Points add up quickly and you can convert points to bonus Hawaiian Airlines miles! There's also a Giving Program where customers can choose a charity. I chose my high school (because my nieces are students there). It's automatically calculated, so Foodland will donate to the charity of choice! Foodland has great sales - just check the weekly advertisement or walk up and down the aisles like I do. Sometimes I find clearance specials... Yippee!

Ahi Limu Poke, $12.99/ lb
Jessica S.

One should always support the local supermarket chain when travelling! It might lean on the more expensive side for some basic items (e.g. water), but everything is more expensive in Hawaii than what us Mainlanders are accustomed to. They do seem to have specials and limited discounts for members/ locals, as a random factoid. Do your grocery shopping, but you'll most definitely want to check out the poke located in the back of the store. Order poke by the "lb." or opt for a poke bowl. If ordering by the pound, most selections under 2lbs are $12.99. If you want your rice, a small bowl for $7.49 will net you 0.33lb of a choice poke. Incredibly fresh with firm fish to satisfy any lover of poke. Ahi limu is ever the classic along with shoyu ahi and all the mayo based selections. Delicious! A must for cheap and easy poke for all the right island tastes and vibes.

Gross mushy rice

Love getting my poke from Foodland! I got a poke bowl with Hawaiian style spicy ahi which was ono BUT the rice was gross! Rice was so mushy you can't even see a grain of rice.

I loved everything I got, and I'm already planning another grocery list to go to Foodland for more of their goodies! Don Quixote? The titular protagonist of Miguel de Cervantes' 17th-century Spanish novel, often considered the first modern novel? No, not him. Side-quest unlocked: Go to Don Quijote to looks at Trader Joe's-like bags and peruse affordable macadamia nuts. Imagine if a Japanese convenience store, Costco, Walmart, Japanese pop culture, and a late-night snack gremlin all moved into one building and decided to co-habilitate. That's Don Quijote, or as locals lovingly know it: Donki. Don Quijote is Japanese discount megastore in Honolulu where you walk in for one bottle of water and somehow leave an hour later with Japanese cheesecake, body wash, a rice cooker, novelty socks, a plush penguin, Spam musubi, an ankle brace, and at least one item that made you say, "Well, I've never seen that before." Every aisle is an adventure. It's part grocery store, part pharmacy, part souvenir shop, part beauty supply, part snack paradise, and part "why are they selling this and why do I suddenly need it?" The shelves are packed to the ceiling, the signage is loud, the deals are good, and the whole place feels like a treasure hunt designed by someone who drank three Red Bull Kyoho Grapes and said, "More products! More fun! No empty shelf space!" The Honolulu location is also gloriously open 24 hours, which means it serves a very specific and beautiful type of chaos: jet-lagged tourists like myself, night owls craving Japanese curry, and people making questionable but spiritually necessary 1:11 a.m. purchases. TL;DR, Don Quijote is less of a store and more of an experience. A slightly overwhelming and delightfully unhinged retail adventure.

We also tried the chicken katsu, which had a light, crisp breading and came with fluffy white rice topped with furikake. And even after we moved, we would still drive out just to come here for the seafood. That's how special it was to us. He knew what to look for, and he trusted this place. For him, it wasn't just about buying food... it was about getting the best for his family. My dad isn't the type to say "I love you." He shows it. One of the biggest ways he showed love was through his cooking. Even after a long day on his feet cooking for others, he would come home and cook for us. That was his way of taking care of us. I loved coming here with him. It was a five-senses overload--the smell of fresh seafood, the sound of people talking story, the colors of fish on display. Back then when you were allowed to sample a grape or poke to make sure it was good before buying. But more than that, it was time with him.
