a variety of fruits and vegetables

Exploring Hawaii's Chinatown was delightful. Gon Ti came recommended. Hawaiian Papaya is not available in NY. I've been longing for Hawaiian Papaya since my last visit. It was refreshing to discover other unique fruits like star apple, as well as Vietnamese cuisine and desserts. The pre-prepared dishes look convenient, and the service was good. I didn't have to wait, and I was able to get everything I needed promptly.. The ambiance wasn't relevant and, the papaya was delicious. However, the Vietnamese green-colored layered dessert was overly sweet after consuming a whole piece. Overall, my experience was positive, and I would recommend grabbing something from here.

I walked and walked, almost every block in Chinatown to find ingredients necessary to make Vietnamese noodle soup called bun rieu. The store I frequent near River Street, was closed and I'm not sure if that's due to covid.... Anyway, my search was over, this was almost as hard as finding a needle in a haystack! Thank you to Kevin, this nice young man was very patient and extremely helpful with me as I don't speak Chinese or Vietnamese to describe what I was looking for. Nice variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. Pretty good selection of canned or jarred items. And guess what, they had the noodles I need too! What makes this store stand out....they have homemade pork loaf and look fun! Hurry while supplies last :) *Bonus find: $4 masks of all colors and patterns!

I've been shopping in Chinatown for AGES and I have my go-to places for all sorts of items. Many times I'll walk up and down Kekaulike St and will pass by Gon & Ti (GT). Located on the Ewa side of Kekaulike St that is near the corner of N King St., GT is a produce store and you may just be impressed like how I am when I pass by their store. I tend to marvel over their display of their fresh fruits and veggies lined up so nicely. And many times I check out their Vietnamese prepacked and cooked items. GT is also on the cleaner side, compared to other stalls in Chinatown. I do appreciate how they carry locally grown products and seasonal items. If you're looking to make Vietnamese food at home, GT is a great place to stop by with the large array of fresh herbs and vegetables to accompany many dishes. When time is the essence, I notice that at times GT carries bittermelon that has been cleaned AND sliced. They are packed nicely and most times can be found in their chiller inside. If you come here early I highly advise you to check out their prepacked cooked items. They have a large selection of savory and sweet items ranging from assorted dumplings, glutinous rice, house made steamed and fried pork rolls (cha lua), rice cakes, baked goodies, look funn rolls....and more. I am also very appreciative on how most of their produce clearly have a pricing sign so you know what you're paying for. So far everything about GT is so good but why only 3-stars? I used to come here a lot but had several bad shopping experiences where I downgraded GT and removed them as one of my go-to places. I was cooking bulk and needed more pre-cleaned and sliced bittermelon but was flatly turned down. I was willing to come back later but was still denied. They clearly had whole and uncleaned bittermelon on display but couldn't be bothered in making more. Moreover, after shopping I proceeded to pay but the line to the outside cashier was long. I then walked to the register inside and MULTIPLE times was ignored by the staff behind the counter as they spoke in Vietnamese. I stood there waiting until I interrupted their conversation. Just recently, I was standing in line outside to pay and a patron in front of me was complaining of people not practicing social distancing during COVID-19. So, I opted to pay inside and the cashier, who in turn became annoyed on why I tried to pay for my purchase inside. I had to explain the chaos going outside and I was trying to alleviate social distancing concerns. Overall, GT is a great place to pick up produce and Vietnamese related ingredients and food but sadly I've had multiple instances of below-par customer service that makes me want to shop elsewhere instead.

I always come here "just to look," but end up with a gigantic, branded reusable bag filled to the brim with imported Asian snacks. Many Chinese products, but also Korean, Japanese, Thai, etc. Snacks range from exotic chip flavors to candies and sodas. Further back you'll find more substantial instant noodle meals. The Chinese ones are actually great and are way more complex ingredients-wise than your standard instant noodle. Also in the back are Chinese cooking ingredients such as sauces and dry goods, but my favorite is the super thick, wide glass noodles that I use for hot pot. There's also a small section with Asian toiletry products that I've personally never tried. I must say it feels like there is less variety of items since they moved locations. Some snacks are repeated in different spots on the shelves to make it look like there's more variety. My favorite latiao that I used to get at their old location is no longer available. :( I'll keep coming back regularly because they're always getting new items in stock.

The back of the store now has lights on. You can see in the back of the store. You no longer need to be apprehensive about venturing in the back of the previously unlit store. There is air conditioning, however, it doesn't seem to work well. I was in here for ten minutes and perspiring due to humidity and heat. I asked the one employee if she was uncomfortable in working in this heat. She replied that they are required to keep the front door open to let customers know it's open, so much of the cooled air escapes. It is crazy warm inside. Service is good. The one employee must stock, look out for customers and ring up sales. There is a half off table that I didn't observe in the past. Some of the drinks in the refrigerated section appear ready to burst. Overall, plus one star for labeling and price tags. I picked up a few sugar free and low calorie drinks to try here.

I decided to do the long walk from Waikiki down to the store, and I was so rewarded for the effort. Walking up and the row of epic restaurant stalls had me grinning from ear to ear. There were so many delicious options OUTSIDE the store that I almost never made it in. From handrolls featuring the freshest seafood from Hokkaido to wagyu kushiyaki and more, my mouth was watering seeing it all beautifully displayed in the windows, and I'm surprised no one said anything about my gawking. Don Q is such a fun store because they have anything and everything you can think of across nearly every category. If I said they're like the Japanese Walmart, it wouldn't hit quite right because the quality and breadth of the selections here are far better. My favorite part of visiting Don Q has to be the incredible array of Asian specialty ingredients and snacks they sell and the reasonable prices. I picked up some gifts here including some exceptional styles of furikake and togarashi, but saw way too many other things I wanted. They also have amazing prepared foods here, specifically Japanese items. There's an entire sushi counter featuring all cuts of bluefin and more, freshly made onigiri, great selection of bentos and and poké too! You really owe it to yourself to visit!

You know those snack boxes that people sell online with snacks from Japan or wherever? I'd imagine just grabbing a bunch of these snacks and candies and curating your own box lol You can tell that they're still setting up, but there was still enough to keep us intrigued! We initially said we didn't need a cart, but we were so wrong. We grabbed some random snacks just to try and review with each other, and compare them to the ones here in the States! We grabbed almost a cartful of snacks... not even ashamed to say it, but the total came to around $43, which to me wasn't that bad. All in all, we're gonna come back again or even check out the one on the other side of town!

This store is spacious, bright, and new. Everything is very organized and easy spot the price. Compared to the main store, this one has mainly snacks and edible items, but a lot of more fragrance and cosmetic items. We even found some items cheaper at this store. The weird thing about this store is the flooring is not level. About 8 feet from the windows toward the parking lot, the floor slants down, so your cart will run away or you might feel a little dizzy from the imbalance. Overall, a nice spacious and clean store with a good amount of Asian snacks and food items. A nice addition to the neighborhood. No need to go into town now for these things. Cashiers were nice and friendly. Besides the unleveled floor, this is a more comfortable place to shop compared to the main store.
