Delicious delicatessens at here. Parking is 1 hour for free. Need to scan bar code and register. Other choices are fresh vegetables and meats.

regular futomaki regular price; and unagi futomaki that is on sale today

Was walking by and went in to see if they had sushi. Got a fresh water eel (unagi) futomaki on sale and regular futomaki to go. Cashier was friendly and assisted me in bagging and chopsticks. There are a few tables and chairs to eat. The air conditioner felt good. Not as busy as the Ala Moana Center location.

Spyin' on da pre-made food offerings.

A great neighborhood market near the University of Hawaii (Manoa)....... After having breakfast next door with my friend - Jennifer C., we decided to go next door to check out Nijiya Market. Located at the Pucks Alley complex, you can find this Japanese/Asian grocery store just next door from Oli's Kitchen. Besides the dry goods that they sell here, this little Japanese supermarket offers a lot of pre-made foods which is convenient for a quick "grab & go". I've come here several times over the years, not so much to shop for dry goods, but mainly to pickup some pre-made food that they sell here. I can see the upside for the students who go to school at the University of Hawaii Lab School, or the kids who are students at the University of Hawaii (Manoa), as this grocery store provides another avenue for the kids to get food. Parking here is easy, as there is a parking lot within the shopping complex. I'm not sure if they validate, but I was told that the first hour parking in the complex is free, afterwards there is a small fee to park in the private parking lot.

Looks good!

Grocery Shopping in Honolulu, Hawaii... My friend wanted a special kind of Furikake to take back to the mainland. She didn't want the type in a bottle nor the kind in the plastic container. She knew that she could get a flat package (good to pack in a suitcase) at Nijiya Market. At the time, we were near the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I told her that I knew where the free parking was. I didn't want to pay for parking at Puck's Alley. LOL! I found street parking about a block away. While she went to the shelves for the Furikake, I stopped by at the demonstration table. The featured item was a mentaiko mix. Just toss it with some udon noodles and make a simple, tasty entree! Yum! Thanks for the sample! I also looked at the ready-to-go bentos. They all seemed fresh and had great presentation. Too bad we were on our way to lunch. Next time, I'll get a chirashi bowl! I hope it's on sale again!

They offer free one hour parking. Enter on the right hand side just past the actually market. It is a small parking lot behind the store. Tons of ready to eat bentos, sushi, and poke bowls. All made fresh on site. I came to get shabu shabu meat and ingredients and found everything I needed and then some. Grabbed a bunch of snacks and my favorite sparkling sake. Good produce that is very reasonable priced. I got a big of yellow onions for $4. Will be back often!

First time here in Puck's Alley University, they also have one in Ala Moana. Japanese store, all kind of things from Japan. The store is fairly big inside. Brought some wild salmon from Alaska, Japanese ramen bowl made in Japan. One of a kind ceramic. Fun store to walk around and shop, Oh...Remember Yoku Moku candy from Japan.. the old Shirokiya store use to sell it. Please visit this store or Ala Moana. Aloha, Derek

I've been coming to Nijiya for a while now and my father and I both love it! They have a wide selection of things ranging from spices, Bentos, drinks, and so much more! Normally when we come here we get a lot of their Bentos and you can't go wrong with them, every now and they do have specials and sales for their food and I think it's worth it! **The Bento I normally get ~ *Una Jyu (Eel Bowl) 10/10 If you love unagi this is the perfect bento for you! The bento comes with Akita Komachi rice, a side of vegetables, and charcoal-grilled eel. I love how the rice is never dry and the eel is always flavorful. For the price of $12.99, it's not bad because unagi is kind of pricey. Overall, The staff is wonderful, they always greet you when entering and exiting. Also, they do an amazing job keeping the store clean and organized! I will most likely be back here again with my father splurging on Bentos!

Getting your fix at the end of the rainbow here Niji is rainbow in Japanese and it sure is golden with what you're able to find here. They do have their own line of practically everything from rice, tofu and dressings they're very selective with their produce and meat including many organic items is what keeps me coming back, you just can't find some items that's sold exclusively here. All bentos are made here and the varieties are awesome I'm never disappointed at all. As small as this place is you can find a little bit of everything which so takes me back to Japan...I'm just so deprived of traveling for the time being this is a small fix lol. Nijiya I'm so thankful for having you!!

One of my fondest childhood memories is going to Tamashiro Market with my dad…read more When we lived in Kalihi, this was our usual spot. And even after we moved, we would still drive out just to come here for the seafood. That's how special it was to us. The reason why he chose Tamashiro over other grocery stores was simple--it was quality and because of my Nanay (grandma). His mom purchased from here and made so many delicious dishes. He knew what to look for, and he trusted this place. For him, it wasn't just about buying food... it was about getting the best for his family. My dad isn't the type to say "I love you." He shows it. One of the biggest ways he showed love was through his cooking. Even after a long day on his feet cooking for others, he would come home and cook for us. That was his way of taking care of us. I loved coming here with him. It was a five-senses overload--the smell of fresh seafood, the sound of people talking story, the colors of fish on display. Back then when you were allowed to sample a grape or poke to make sure it was good before buying. But more than that, it was time with him. I still remember the excitement I felt when I saw the pink building with the huge crab. I thought back then was to look at everything but now I understand that it meant something more..... something special--time with my dad. It's with a sad heart that Tamishiro Market is now closed. Thank you, Tamashiro, for providing quality food and memories for so many years. You were more than a market--you were part of my childhood

They offer live Dungeness crab, Samoan crab, lobsters, snails, fish, clams, etc. I pass by here all the time but never looked inside. It wasn't till one day Mink was craving Dungeness crab and we couldn't find it anywhere. We looked at Costco (they had but they were already cleaned and all the good stuff was discarded), Richard's Meat Market and a few stalls in Chinatown. Fortunately I remembered this place and we walked there. Sure enough, they had tanks of live Dungeness crab. Customer service was friendly but a little slow. We were the only customers inside when we arrived but couldn't decide on how many to buy. In a blink of an eye, the place was packed and it took awhile to make our purchase. When we were finally helped again, we purchased two live Dungeness crabs. She gave us two huge ones! Cleaning was offered but my dad said it'll taste better to keep them alive till we're about to eat them. We politely declined the cleaning and paid. Bring cash! I was going to pay by credit card but they said cash. They probably don't want to pay processing fees. The crabs were still moving around on the way home and up till the moment we cleaned them. Seeing the crab cleaning in real life vs YouTube is totally different! It was a quick steam and we had our dinner ready. Don't worry, we also picked up take out from Thai Issan to accompany the crab. Mink made some homemade Thai seafood sauce. It was the perfect compliment to the plump and sweet crab meat. Yes, she made something in the kitchen! Thank social media or YouTube! Great discovery in Chinatown and we'll be back the next time we're in the mood for fresh seafood.

Odd, as nothing really needed to be "cooked" very long. I noticed immediately that a majority of the tables were disgusting and there are flies buzzing around. In any case, I still decided to order my food as "dine in." I did some shopping while I was waiting, and of course, while I was standing in line (almost 20 minutes later) my beeper went off. You cannot silence it, so I ended up abandoning my place in one of the three cash register lines. Since there are only 3 lines, they do not move quickly. This is prime time on a Saturday, mind you. I went to turn in the beeper and get my soup. The soup comes in a flaming box with a bowl shaped opening with feet, where the stainless seet bowl sits. Now, I get that the flaming box is meant to keep your soup hot... However, WE ARE IN HAWAII. The ambient temperature isn't going to cool down the soup dramatically. IN FACT, I HAVE BEEN SITTING HERE WAITING FOR THE FLAME TO GO OUT, BECAUSE MY SOUP IS TOO HOT TO EAT. Additionally, because the bowl sits on feet, the beef bones weight keeps spilling the soup off one end. The soup is delicious, but this is the stupidest execution and presentation of something meant to be delicious and simple. Also, if the bowl is too hot to hold and drink from... soup spoons would be awesome. ‍
