OMFG -- there needs to be one of these EVERYWHERE…read more The musubi was SO good. I ended up getting about five of them plus a drink and still spent under $20, which honestly feels unheard of these days. Everything tasted fresh, the portions were satisfying, and every bite was ridiculously good. I was basically having a food-gasm the entire time. Affordable, fresh, delicious, and dangerously easy to keep ordering more. I'm already wishing there was one closer to me. 10/10, would absolutely come back.

It would have been 1 star if not for me realizing, I should have done my own due diligence first. I figured to stop in early for a quick breakfast for my son and I. He ordered his mix plate from the hot bar, which he enjoyed. On my end, I never get their sushi, but I said hey why not, it's early and should be fresh since they recently oepned. Sit down all excited about my tempura topped with ahi, crunch, and sauce.......it looked delightful. First bite and I was like ahhhhhhhhh. I thought what the heck this tasted like day old sushi. Rice cold and hard ish, tempura dry and stale. Maybe it was just the end piece. Grab a center piece and ahhhhhh. Maayyynnnn I just wasted my money and set me in a disappointed mood. So this is where I realize.....huh I may be partly responsible. I grabbed, ASSuME'g it would be fresh, but never checked the date. Turn over wrapper and tipped prepared yesterday. If not for my own fault this review would have been a 1. So I bumped them one star for my mistake. Still bad review as WHY are you selling day old sushi. It's terrible. I get not trying to waste money, but still that's a shame. Oh well, never again sushi for me from here. But I will be back for other food and shopping.

I didn't really know what to expect, but I was surprised by how many different kinds of poke they had. I stood there for a while trying to decide because everything looked good! I ended up getting the salmon and Hawaiian ahi tuna poke. Both were good, but looking back, I should've gotten one of the spicy mayo flavors because those looked even better. Next time, that's definitely what I'm ordering. You can get half a pound or a full pound, and you can also split your order between two flavors. We bought the poke here and got rice separately to make our own poke bowls. It ended up being much more affordable than ordering poke bowls from a restaurant, especially while visiting Hawaii. One thing to know before going: grab a number from the ticket machine when you arrive. The poke counter gets busy, and there were quite a few people waiting when we went. They'll call your number when it's your turn. Overall, this was a good and affordable stop for poke with a lot of variety. I'd come back, but next time I'm going straight for the spicy mayo!

One of my fondest childhood memories is going to Tamashiro Market with my dad…read more When we lived in Kalihi, this was our usual spot. And even after we moved, we would still drive out just to come here for the seafood. That's how special it was to us. The reason why he chose Tamashiro over other grocery stores was simple--it was quality and because of my Nanay (grandma). His mom purchased from here and made so many delicious dishes. He knew what to look for, and he trusted this place. For him, it wasn't just about buying food... it was about getting the best for his family. My dad isn't the type to say "I love you." He shows it. One of the biggest ways he showed love was through his cooking. Even after a long day on his feet cooking for others, he would come home and cook for us. That was his way of taking care of us. I loved coming here with him. It was a five-senses overload--the smell of fresh seafood, the sound of people talking story, the colors of fish on display. Back then when you were allowed to sample a grape or poke to make sure it was good before buying. But more than that, it was time with him. I still remember the excitement I felt when I saw the pink building with the huge crab. I thought back then was to look at everything but now I understand that it meant something more..... something special--time with my dad. It's with a sad heart that Tamishiro Market is now closed. Thank you, Tamashiro, for providing quality food and memories for so many years. You were more than a market--you were part of my childhood

It looked the same as it did the first time I went with my grandfather. I picked up a couple pounds of dry aku for my favorite sister and some tee shirts as memorabilia.
