1 Star -- Loyalty Apparently Comes With a Penalty I am absolutely disgusted by the way Safeguard Self Storage treats long-term customers. I started renting my unit in September 2020 for $110 per month. Nearly six years later, after NEVER missing or being late on a payment, I received a letter casually informing me that my monthly charge is increasing to $657. Let that sink in. $657 a month for the SAME unit, on the SAME floor, with ZERO improvements, ZERO upgrades, and absolutely nothing different to justify this outrageous increase. Then comes the real slap in the face. This letter talks about how rent increases are only made "when absolutely necessary" and after "serious consideration" of customers facing economic hardship. Yet when I went online to price the EXACT SAME UNIT, I was quoted an introductory rate of $150 and a standard rate of only $319 after the promotion. So new customers pay $319... while loyal customers with perfect payment history are expected to pay $657? That's a $388 difference for literally the same space. This isn't "customer appreciation." It isn't "serious consideration." It feels like exploiting loyal renters because you assume moving out is too inconvenient. And the cherry on top? The letter warns about late fees and thanks me for my "continued patronage" -- as if I should feel grateful for being charged more than DOUBLE the advertised standard rate after years of on-time payments. Businesses love to talk about loyalty until it affects their profits. If you rent here, watch your rates closely. Apparently staying loyal just makes you a target for endless increases. read more

Great service, and well kept facility, that I am ready to move my belongings into comfortably. Jim went above and beyond to ensure my needs were met all around. Sheila was of great assistance as well. Would definitely recommend Safeguard at this point, and confident that will feel the same when moving my belongings out to a final destination. Super expensive, and good luck getting your stuff into or out of storage. Every time I went in there to move stuff, there are drink vendors blocking the aisles w product and setting up tables to do inventory with tons of drink products and boxes everywhere. They store lots of product there. I understand they have a job to do, but leaving their stuff to block the aisles as they go out to do deliveries is crazy when we are paying 400 dollars a month there. We had to awkwardly move their stuff out of the way to make a clear path, and as we were leaving they argued with us that we should have gone around the longer way. The true problem was the worker/manager not doing anything at the desk to solve the issues. read more

I used Yelp for reviews on this storage. It just moved into our neighborhood and it looked like a nice place. I didn't need storage until our daughter moved and needed it. I got a price using Yelp and a date /time to visit. I called them to confirm snd they gave me a similar price, $3 more. I live 5 mins, away and when I got to the location, he quoted me double. For what?! There's others that are priced much less with better amenities. read more

A state of the art security facility with a highly attentive staff with market average pricing. What more could you ask for in a self-storage facility? When you reach out to Safeguard, you talk to real on-site humans (no call centers) who will help guide you to the best storage solution. In my case, they helped me reserve a few units in close proximity to each other. Over the course of my 6 month stay, they typically responded to emails or calls within minutes. The customer service interaction was straightforward and personable. The facility itself is clean and convenient: a garage bay for trucks and cars, clean restrooms, clean and well-lit hallways, and a well-thought out security plan. Finally, the pricing was on-par with other "national brands", yet the quality of the experience was well-above the "national brand" average. Going forward, I'll recommend this to anyone looking for storage. read more

From the beginning, Cynara at Safeguard was friendly, informative, and patient while I asked questions about renting a storage unit here. I didn't visit other facilities, I only did research online, but from the exterior Safeguard looks a lot more clean and safe. On the inside, Safeguard is spotless and secure. The access hours are flexible enough, as I don't need access after 10:00 p.m. anyway, and I like the security features. You get one key fob to access the elevators (or building after hours), and then your key is separate to your storage unit. I wish the unit had been less expensive ($198/month for a 10x15), but the unit we rented had a promotion which included the first three months for half off. We expected to rent for approximately six months, so it really made the price comparable to $150/month. I was able to reserve the unit 7 days ahead of time. Cyanara worked with me to make sure I didn't miss the promotion and followed up with e-mails and phone calls - but she didn't overdo it. She was also very helpful when I arrived to rent the unit. I would strongly recommend this facility. read more

I went on Yelp in search of a storage facility to store my possessions for a month until I closed on my condo for the month of Nov. After speaking to someone from the call center and getting a quote I chose Safeguard that was in Darien (near my soon to be condo). I decided to go check out the unit that was quoted to me and was met by Sheila. Sheila exceeded above & beyond my expectations! She was not only helpful; but knew who I was immediately from her call log; went thru the details as far as pricing; security; & what to expect if ever I visit the unit during hours allowed. Moving is a very stressful time but Sheila helped take away the stress of knowing my possessions are safe while being stored at Safeguard! Although she's an assistant mgr from another location & was only filling in; I consider myself lucky to have had her help me! I can only wish she's there on my actual moving day! So far so good! Just signed up last week and found Melissa to be very helpful. She explained all of the security features for your items and the safety/security for when you're bringing in your items after hours. The space is very clean, common areas and my storage space. I don't foresee having any issues. read more

The location is convenient, the building is clean and the team there are very friendly and helpful.

I left a review a few months ago but I felt a need for an update. We were supposed to close on a house the same day we sold ours. The deal fell through and with only 3 days notice we were forced to find storage for all of our possessions. Stressful to say the least. I contacted the Safeguard service center and they recommended the facility nearest to me. I arrived and explained my situation to the staff and they immediately put me at ease. They had encountered this situation before and they were well aware of the toll it can take on a person. They walked me through the process and got me set up in under a half hour. I can't express how much that meant to me at the time. One big headache out of the way. Couple that with the cleanliness of the place and round the clock accessibility, and it was a no-brainer. If you or anyone you know ever needs storage, I can say unequivocally, this is your best bet. read more

Facility itself is fantastic but Corporate communications are horribly faulty. So be aware - they walk around checking locks to make sure units are secure which is five stars but if it's not exactly perfect they send you a letter even if your unit is secure with your lock but a little offset. Letter says they tried to call you - well they have no procedure in place to call - letter says they have put a corporate lock on the unit and if you don't meet a short one week deadline to come in and rectify they charge you to unlock - well there was no corporate lock on the unit after I rushed over to see what the heck was going on there. The lady in the office was very nice but really could not defend the inaccurate letter sent to me although she tried. Crazy. It's a very clean and upscale storage facility that is not cheap by any means but you do get what you pay for, as they say. I am happy having storage there for 12+ years but totally ticked at how Corporate treats their loyal customers - if you say you tried to call - you better have tried to call but you did not and even the employee said they don't make calls even though the letter says they do. The person in charge of communications should seek a better suited job that requires no logical thinking. Sorry but that is true right? Management called me and did a nice thing for me when that happened about the lock. Very pleased ... however today I got another communication that said the expiry date on my credit card on file was about to expire so I had to fill out a new form with cc info then either mail or drop it off. Well no return envelope. Well when I got there I was told I could have called in the new expiry date - that their form letters are outdated and yes they should be revised. So I wasted yet another trip and sorry is nice but really doesn't cut it - updating communications is sorely needed. Employees actually telling me yes their mail communications are outdated would certainly concern me enough to make changes in the letters to customers. read more

Darien Safeguard is clean, neat, and well-kept. Cynara and the staff are wonderfully helpful, pleasant to know, and exceptionally personable. They get to know their customers, recognizing many on sight. They maintain the facility well, make sure potential customers understand what they are getting and the value that Safeguard provides.
