Having previously been let down by E different storage company, public storage made it really easy and affordable to arrange a location to store our furniture until we move to Chicago. Public Storage has an online contract and text messaging that made it possible for us to reserve a storage space from 350 miles away. By the time I arrived at Public Storage, they already text messaged me the information on my storage space, gave me the password to get in, and had a free, complementary lock sitting inside the storage space. The transition couldn't have gone more smoothly with this company. read more

I have had a storage unit here for over a year. Their billing is a mess and there are mistakes majority of the time. They say they have a texting system and it will work for 1 month and then be down for 8. I have been promised numerous credits and refunds due to these issues then I have to follow up numerous times for them to decide they cannot keep their word. read more

All my furniture, boxes, anything that was stored in my unit has been ruined by mildew and dampness. My cardboard boxes were all damp and warped.items that were in the boxes had mold and mildew on them. There was some kind of leak in my unit that ruined everything. For the amount of money they charged me monthly my stuff should have been pristine. Went to move out and the property manager was no where to be found. From 12-2 I was moving my stuff and the management office was closed the whole time. I saw her leave and deny someone the bathroom and then she came back but never unlocked office door. There are plenty of storage places around that I should have gone to, I highly suggest that you do what I did not. read more

Moved in today to a 7.5 by 10 in the outdoor lot. The process was straight forward, easy, and fast. Jessica showed me my unit, explained the process of accessing my space, how to use my lock and key, and explained everything from time the facility was open to insurance. Will update as the months go on, but so far so good. One note: the back of the lot is not fenced in, but contained by a deep ravine with trees. It faces the mall which is fenced so it does seem secure, just a little strange. read more

This is our first experience using a storage facility and the whole process was fairly simpled. I suggest locking in a price online as that's where the best prices come from. The manager, Erik, was extremely customer focused and very kind. He answered all the questions I had and gave me great information. The actual unit itself was clean and very easy to access. Only downfall is not having cameras at this location. We aren't using it for valuables or anything but definitely an opportunity to step up their game. Overall: Very affordable and very easy to use. Facility is fine but customer service is terrible. Please be aware that the rent is not prorated - so if you move out on the 2nd of the month, you will be charged for the entire month. Very poor business practice. read more

Finally spoke with the District Manager. Basically, he told me that the reason I had to call back 23 times to speak with someone about my account is that it is one of the "busier" properties, and there is generally only one person working, so they are frequently out of the office doing other things. I guess their staffing issues are MY problem. He also suggested that the communication breakdown was essentially my fault because I did not leave a voicemail message for a callback...because I was at work...much like his own staff. But that doesn't really matter, I guess. Anyway, he did agree to a "one-time courtesy" credit of $20.00. And he made it clear that was the best I could expect from Public Storage. In short, this company sucks, its philosophy on customer service sucks, its level of greed sucks, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

I would not recommend this facility to store anyone's items. I stored here for 3 months and had nothing but problems at this location. I used public Storage in the past when I lived in California and never I never had the issues I had here. 1st when I went to look at the property everything seemed normal. I rented a unit outside. One Saturday morning I needed to buy some more boxes so I went in the office and there were 2 girls behind the counter and 3 guys sitting with them. As soon as I walked up the guys ran back to the front of the desk. The employees seemed too busy in their conversation to really help me with my boxes I needed. I just blew the whole thing off. When I went to my unit there was lots of trash and broken glass bottles I had to drive through. I found a cut lock in front of my door and thought it was mine but realized it wasn't. I saw one of the office girls and told her I found the cut lock and she just shrugged her shoulders and said it's normal to find them on the property that people lose there keys all the time and cut their locks off to get into their unit. I asked her what if they cut the wrong lock and get into someone else's unit and was told "that is why you are required to have insurance." I only had 2 more months until my house would be ready and I could get my stuff out of there. Every time I went there it was nothing but problems. The office girls weren't very friendly and I asked for the manager and was told by one of the girls she was the property manager (I believe her name was Alex or something like that) and rudely asked what I needed. I complained about the way there is always trash and glass in the driveways where we drive and she said we'll take care of it. I did see her go outside with a broom but she then sat on her cell phone complaining to who she was talking to that these stupid tenants need to leave her alone and stop complaining all the time. I was very frustrated with the service I was getting. I was paying to keep my items in a place that has rude people working. Also I came there multiple times and the gates were wide open.. How are you secure when anyone can just drive in and break into peoples garages that hold personal belongings in. I called the customer Service number that was on the envelope I got when I signed up for my space and was given the run around. They never apologized nor was anything done about the way I was treated. I will never use them again or recommend storing here. read more

History

Established in 1972.

The first Public Storage building opened in El Cajon California, but the new business was only supposed to be temporary. Two partners pioneered the concept as a way to use their real estate investment while they waited for the Southern California community to take off and value of their land to grow. They kept building, and people continued to fill their units. Eventually the pair realized that self-storage was here to stay, and they never looked back. Today, there are thousands of neighborhood Public Storage locations to choose from, many right around the corner from you.

1 Star -- Loyalty Apparently Comes With a Penalty…read more I am absolutely disgusted by the way Safeguard Self Storage treats long-term customers. I started renting my unit in September 2020 for $110 per month. Nearly six years later, after NEVER missing or being late on a payment, I received a letter casually informing me that my monthly charge is increasing to $657. Let that sink in. $657 a month for the SAME unit, on the SAME floor, with ZERO improvements, ZERO upgrades, and absolutely nothing different to justify this outrageous increase. Then comes the real slap in the face. This letter talks about how rent increases are only made "when absolutely necessary" and after "serious consideration" of customers facing economic hardship. Yet when I went online to price the EXACT SAME UNIT, I was quoted an introductory rate of $150 and a standard rate of only $319 after the promotion. So new customers pay $319... while loyal customers with perfect payment history are expected to pay $657? That's a $388 difference for literally the same space. This isn't "customer appreciation." It isn't "serious consideration." It feels like exploiting loyal renters because you assume moving out is too inconvenient. And the cherry on top? The letter warns about late fees and thanks me for my "continued patronage" -- as if I should feel grateful for being charged more than DOUBLE the advertised standard rate after years of on-time payments. Businesses love to talk about loyalty until it affects their profits. If you rent here, watch your rates closely. Apparently staying loyal just makes you a target for endless increases.

If I could give this company -1000 stars I would…read more I rarely leave negative reviews, but my family's experience was so disappointing that I feel obligated to warn others. We hired College Hunks (Naperville, IL) for a local move between two homes that were only about five minutes apart. Before the move, we answered detailed questions about the size of the homes, the number of rooms, and what needed to be moved. Based on that information, we were given an estimate of approximately 6 hours of work and an expected cost of around $2,000. The reality was very different. The move ended up taking approximately 13 hours--more than double the estimate--and our final bill was nearly $4,000. We were told the extra time was due to a two-story walk-up and a blocked alley entrance, but these explanations do not justify such a massive difference from the estimate we were given. The men on the team also did not inform anyone that they were going on break and we have no idea when they started/stopped their break. To make matters worse, several items were damaged during the move: * The back panel of a dresser was damaged. * The center support leg for that dresser was lost. * A small piano was broken. We submitted a damage claim during the first week of May and have repeatedly attempted to follow up. Despite numerous calls, we have received no meaningful update or resolution. At this point, the lack of communication has been just as frustrating as the damage itself. I understand that estimates can change and that moving is difficult work. What I do not understand is how a move can take more than twice as long as estimated, result in damaged property, and then be followed by weeks of silence when a claim is submitted. All we have asked for is a fair resolution regarding the damages and a reasonable review of the charges. Instead, we have been left chasing answers. Based on our experience, I would strongly encourage anyone considering this company to get every detail in writing, ask detailed questions about how charges are calculated, and carefully document the condition of all belongings before the move.

Fast forward to 4 Months ago: I called Rich (manager), and informed him that we are growing and needed a bigger trailer and soon, we would need more. He was happy for me, and loves to see business grow. He is extremely nice, great salesman but it's important for customers to know what ACTUALLY happens AFTER you make your purchase. We purchased a 6X12 trailer which I assumed to be another Cargo Mate, but AFTER doing all the paperwork I was informed it was not in fact a Cargo Mate but a Commander. Big Tex Trailer World recently got bought out and started manufacturing lower end trailers according to Rich, THATS why I was getting such a "good deal." Within the first 5 minutes of driving off with the trailer I experienced a wheel hub wobble and flickering lights. When I brought it back, they gave me the runaround and told me "That's what it's supposed to do." After going back and forth and going to a different trailer place, they told me the wheel hub was in fact bent. It only took 3 hours of arguing until he "warrantied" out the hub-something I shouldn't have even had an issue with given that before signing I was told I have a no hassle "bumper to bumper" warranty coverage. Awesome, I got it replaced. 2 months later my leaf springs completely snap with the trailer not even close to hauling full capacity. I called them 3 times-all 3 times I got the same response: "I'll have to look up the warranty information and I will call you back." Still haven't heard back. I wish this company all the luck-they are extremely nice to your face and are really good at convincing you you're getting a good deal-but BEWARE. This Commander rust bucket won't even sell for half the value of what I paid-a 2019 should not be in this terrible of condition compared to my Cargo Mate. Good luck keeping customers with this type of quality.

Big Tex in Homer Glen went out of their way to contact manufacturers individually, comparable trailer brand reps and other resources within their network to set me up with the best fit for my specs. We had a horrible experience at the public storage on E.Boughton road Bolingbrook Location and would recommend everyone avoid it to protect their property and for the incredibly POOR customer service. The doors are thin. The thieves can easily break the cheap doors. They increase the rent without letting you know ... instead blame on us because apparently they "sent email a while ago" ...?? when i called district manage Sylvia Chrzanowski ..she replied and left voicemail indicate she will issue refund for us and will call in a few days...instead ask Craig to call and left message saying no refund?? what a LIE from district manager who represent this company!! Two days before moving out this crappy place, met Craig.. told him i will file a formal complaint to BBB ..he said "what if we refund you and hope you don't complaint..we are just the small business.." we are sick and tired of their dishonest!!! I have no choice to give one star for this company! they don't even deserve one star!! I was told that I had a climate controlled unit only to find out I did not and they would not switch me or help me told me I add to remove my stuff myself and no apology. When I went to remove my belongings everything had mold on it.They did not show any signs of care or sympathy or had any answers . This facility has a rat infestation problem (Health & Safety Issue) which took them several months to even acknowledge even though rat droppings were all over in the hallways in addition to my individual storage! No communication of any kind was sent out, even when they were made aware of the severity of the issue, no action was taken to remedy the problem or send communication out! They do not take any action to remedy the problems or send communication to their customers to notify them of a problem that could cause health and safety issues. They deny responsibility of any sort! They have not taken any type of action regarding improving their pest control (if there is any!) or look into the mold issues which is another health and safety issue at this facility! read more

I have been renting here since November and Jessica has been great. Jessica showed me the unit without delay. She is very courteous, prompt, and she knows her stuff. Jessica always listens to me and my issues with my living situation and she remembers me when I come in to make a payment. Recently, I have been wanting to move into a smaller unit for the last few months and she has been great with helping me find the prefect unit to move into. I ended up moving into a unit that was right next to the old unit; which was very helpful in moving my things over. Overall, I have had no problems with my personal property either. read more

So as much as I like the pricing and the convenience of a first floor, I did not like the fact that I had to put mice pellets on the floor, that totally changed my storage organization, my mattresses had to be put up on a couple tables, , wasn't happy with that lifting and shifting, mice are known to bed into fabric, eww, and it was very musty in the storage, I will be going back to freshen up the space and put down captive boxes read more

This review is about the Bolingbrook,Il location where Jessica manages. This location is clean and rodent free. I have been there for 1 year and a couple of months and i have never seen a mouse or a mess. Jessica is warm and inviting.
