I am a new Reno resident transplanted from San Jose where a synthetic oil change can easily run you 80 bucks plus, so the fact that I got a full service synthetic oil change in under 15 minutes for $60 was enough to have me leaving with a smile. Not to mention that they offer a $5 coupon on their website. All the gents working around and under my car were nice, respectful, but somewhat cavalier in their good natured joking. The ONLY slight drawback would be the location as it's tucked away on a side street. To their credit they've addressed this issue already by parking an easily spotted van at the driveway with signage. I didn't see any waiting room because I never had to leave my seat in my car. All paperwork was handled quickly and professionally. I would definitely recommend this place. I would confidently recommend Safe Lube to anyone in need of anything from a simple oil change or smog check to more extensive work like a transmission repair. I have been going here since moving to Reno in 2007. I never feel like they are trying to sell me something I don't need. Full service oil change includes checking the tires and the wipers, washing the windows if needed, checking the air filter and maybe some other things that I'm not even aware of. They will register your car at the same time as your smog check if you like. That, to me, is a huge time saver. I know lots of places do this now. Whether you are going for a smog check or an oil change, you never have to get out of your car. Just pull in to the garage and let them do their thing. I work in South Reno and live in the North Valleys. I stopped here after work on Thursday and was home about 45 minutes after leaving work. In and out in about 15 minutes. Service is friendly and the service technicians are regulars. I don't see very much turnover in personnel. They all seem to work well as a team. read more

I called and spoke to the manager today about how I was shocked at how high the prices were and stated I would have appreciated if the staff would let you know before getting the service how much it was specially since they knowingly increased te prices for their service and the other staff were weird they would accept my valid coupon (cause I didn't print it out) the manager is in his own world and didn't listen to a word I said, his response was just we pay a living wage and if you don't like there are plenty of other places to go! i then understood the problem, it's management. I only go here for my oil change and every time it's been a quick and friendly experience. I went in today to get new brake pads I thought I needed due to some noise my car started making when I would brake. Wayne the mechanic inspected it and told me they were fine. Quick service and friendly staff. However they asked me if my tire pressure monitor light was on. It was not. After l drove 2 miles from the place, I had a flat tire. The receipt said I refused to have my tire pressure checked. I was not asked if I wanted my tire pressure checked!!! Maybe if they checked the tire pressure, I wouldn't have had a flat on highway 395 two miles away from safe lube. Will probably never go back. I was lectured by Tim on how to not tell him to do business and he has been successful for 16 years. I tried to explain to him my situation and he didn't care. I've been once (today), so that's why the 4 stars. If every visit is like today, then I will give them 5 stars. They washed my windows while my oil was changed for goodness sake! I might be a girl, but I know how to change my oil, I just don't like to. So I liked that I could watch them (via cameras) work under my car and under my hood. I know the work was done. Some other places say they check the filter then recommend changing it when I know full well they didn't check it. So I was impressed with this place. I plan to get my 90K tune-up here next, so I'll let you know how it goes. UPDATE: I've been back many times since writing this review (which was a couple years ago). I still love this place!! Uh oh. It feels like their accuracy is slipping. I've been here for an oil change twice this year, both times they accepted my $5 off coupon, and forgot to take it off the bill. I got home before I noticed, and the first time I ignored it. Shame on me, I didn't check before leaving the second time, and sure enough I got home and found it was not subtracted from the bill. I called them to complain, and the tech said I needed to come back to the shop with my debit card, so they could credit the coupon. I did just that, even though the round trip at today's gas prices was likely $4-5 worth of gas anyway. They also gave me a $5 discount business card, but heck I can get a $5 off coupon off the internet any day. I also went over 100k miles on my car, and their "higher mileage' oil is an additional $5. (I've heard though, that even if a car is at a high mileage this special oil isn't necessarily needed. ymmv.) read more

THis is the place I take my car for oil changes and to get it smogged. I've been meaning to Yelp this for some time. They're quick and I sit in my car while they do it. There might be places a few bucks cheaper but they're so fast here it's worth it to get in and get out. I used to go to the places that are Jiffy Lube. I went to one place for about 10 years. Then they broke my key in my ignition and said I was partly to blame and would only pay half the cost of getting the key pulled out. No more for that place. I've had some problems at Safe Lube, too. The biggest was that they changed a belt and then didn't tighten properly. I started having problems. I took it in to them and they couldn't figure out what it was. They sent me to an air conditioning specialist and all they did was tighten the belt. But again, they're usually pretty good here. read more

Ive been here a few times (in my pre-yelp days) and always enjoyed the quick service but today i was extremely impressed. I pulled up, got an oil change, a smog check, and paid my registration in 30 minutes. On top of it all they cleaned my windows, filled my washer fluid, filled my coolant (which I had in the car), and filled up my tires with air. I wish that everywhere I went I was this efficient with my time!! Everything about this trip was impressive but for me, the best part was how well their team worked together. As I sat there I watched what was going on around me and there were at least 4 people (that I could count) that helped me. Now that is impressive! It was also really awesome that everyone that talked to me actually greeted me first. Instead of just asking me a question they said hello. I know it seems trivial but it still really sticks out in my mind. I recommend these guys to anyone! Local is always better and these guys give local business a great name! read more

Wow! I found this place by Googling for oil change opportunities on a Sunday. The reviews were up and down, but I figured I would give it a shot. And I am SO GLAD I did! Normally I wouldn't take my spirited daughter with me to an oil change, because they take forever, and she gets a little restless in the waiting room. At Safe Lube, you STAY IN YOUR CAR--and not for long! It was SO GREAT! I learned more about my car during that oil change than ever before! The guys were very nice, especially to my daughter. They conversed and joked with us as they quickly took care of my car, and informed me of the status of things, and showed me where air filters and other nonsense was located. ;) At Safe Lube you get more than an oil change; you get educational entertainment! If I had not made the mistake of having work done here it would get 5 stars. Love it for oil changes, these guys are great! Plus I love that they have you stay in your car. However, while getting my oil changed they noticed that I had some leaks in my engine, and gave me an estimate on the repairs. All good so far. When I dropped my car off for an "hour's" worth of work, the guy said I could wait in the waiting area but I already had a ride waiting. Well now it's the next day and they have received the wrong parts twice. They said it would be ready at 9 and it isn't. If it isn't ready by noon (when I have a ride back), I won't even come back here for oil changes. I have to work people, I don't have all day to wait around and see if they can bring the right parts today. I'm just really glad that I didn't show up at 8am and wait in the waiting area like he suggested. So, great for oil changes and all the oil change services! Leave it at that though. read more

This is my favorite place to get my oil changed. The guys at safe lube are extremely friendly they know what their doing. Have you ever had to wait for a very long time at a place for a oil change?? At safe lube it's drive thru their very efficient this way, you literally sit in your car as your oil is changed in a matter of minutes. Yes I said minutes. You can also get your car smog and registration for renew yup you got it thru the convenience of a drive thru. Went there to do a repair after another place allowed my smog test to fail. These guys were great! They made the repairs (which were not expensive) and when i came back later that week for the retest they took care of the registration without charging an additional fee. Safe Lube Plus helped me after every Jiffy Lube was closed and Tires Plus said "We have some things to do before we close." I called them in front of the Virginia Street Tires plus and asked if I were to drive there now, would they be able to correct my overfilled oil. I had my one year old son and wife and was just trying to get up the mountain to my house before mnt rose turned into an icy death trap. I had groceries in my trunk and my son was. . . Well he was a one year old if you know what I mean. I also had just spent $130 getting that oil and a new battery. I was a little pissed. James answered the phone and said come on down, I will take care of you myself. He met me right as I pulled up. Checked that It was me, then said "don't worry about getting out of the car. This will be super fast." We pulled in and and he was done in a flash. One of the other workers came by and showed me they got my oil exactly on the full line to make sure I knew it was 100%. I asked James how much I owed him and he said "don't worry about it. I've got this." I said are you sure, slightly blown away. He said "Of course, it's what people are supposed to do right?" I said no. Nobody does that. Even if it was a small fee, he saved me money after I spent a good chunk already! It meant the world to me and my small family. We live on the mountain but we really shouldn't. Money is VERY tight and it's things like this that make a huge difference in getting through the day. Needless to say I will drive past every jiffy lube and every other service station to get to this Safe Lube Plus. James was incredible! read more

Great spot normally--only one employee wearing a mask and was wearing it upside down, plus didn't cover nose. Wouldn't bother me that much because they are outside, but they do pop their head into your window to talk to you, handle your credit card, and paperwork. So I'd rather just have them not do that. I understand mask wearing or using soap/hand sanitizer may not be required for your business, but some customers may prefer that you do. I certainly would--so just a message for customers that care about covid-this business is not taking many precautions. read more
