He was able to schedule us for Saturday afternoon, which was critical since we were supposed to head home that day. Because of storm-related commute issues earlier in the week, Jim ended up arriving around 4pm instead of noon. Totally understandable given the conditions. He worked outside in freezing weather and never complained once. Jim was incredibly friendly and easy to talk to. He was great with my wife, my son, and even let our dogs jump on him and give him kisses. Despite the tough conditions, he got the job done and got us safely back on the road with a solid new CV axle so we could make it home as planned. I'd hire Jim again in a heartbeat. That changed with the new person at the front desk. When I dropped off my radiator, he was in the middle of an argument with the previous customer -- I don't know the details, but it was an odd thing to walk in on. When it was my turn, he looked at my radiator and, without inspecting it, declared it "plugged" and said it would need a tank removed to rod out the tubes. I looked myself and saw corrosion on the outside of the tubes, but the ones I could see inside were clear. I pushed back, and he clearly didn't like that. After some back and forth, I said I just wanted it hot tanked, cleaned, and pressure tested. He agreed: $85, ready in about a week. A week later I got word it passed the pressure test. When I picked it up, it hadn't been painted and the fins hadn't been straightened -- something A1 has always done as a matter of course, no request needed. I can't help but suspect he told the tech to skip those steps because of our disagreement at drop-off; I can't prove that, but the timing is suspicious. When I raised it, he got defensive and said for $85 he couldn't do all that. I'd have gladly paid $100-125 to have it done right. I don't know if this is his call or a management decision, but I'll be looking elsewhere next time, and so will the friends I used to send here. Genuinely unfortunate -- thirty years of loyalty undone by one guy at the front desk who's more interested in upselling than in the customer.

We got his truck towed the same day to the shop and Nick kept him informed on the cost to repair the next day and ordered parts. Turnaround time was two days and we were able to pick it up the next day. He was not charged a storage fee overnight but maybe since he had the work done there which was fair. We went back a third time because the brakes still made noises at every stop. Instead of inspecting anything, Greg took my husband on a "test drive," speeding to 50 mph and slamming the brakes in a whiplash‑inducing stunt meant to intimidate rather than diagnose. He insisted the brakes were fine. They were not. Soon after, the front wheel made a loud metal‑on‑metal scraping. A second opinion from another shop confirmed our fears: Greg's people had done the worst brake job they had ever seen. They even questioned whether the "new" calipers we paid for were new at all -- the brakes looked two years old, not two months. Greg has ignored calls, refused refunds, and offered zero apology. He only responds to Google reviews. The customer-focused values he advertises on his website are nowhere to be found in his actual business. Let me explain -- my car had been making…read morea noise like an RC car running out of juice and the guys at the auto part store said the alternator was going out. Lovely. I had called a few places around town and ZZZ was able to (A) get me in right away, (B) provide a precise quote for what I thought was the issue over the phone and (C) make me feel immediately "safe" with them in that first call. When asking if I wanted refurb or new parts, the price was about $150 difference. I originally said new, but they advised me about the warranty on refurb parts and not to feel scared of it. I appreciated that they didn't just take my money. Once I arrived, I told them about the previous convo at the auto store and they did some diagnostic tests, all while letting me stand there and watch. About 10-15 minutes later and some dusting stuff off they're like...nah you're good. If anything I needed a new battery, but they said even that was in pretty good shape. They offered to install that for me if I wanted, but basically said that I could just go. Since then, my car has been totally fine! A less ethical place could've easily just cheated me, charged for XYZ or installed a new alternator anyway. So they didn't really do work on my car this time, but their honesty 10000% earned my business for the next time a problem arises.
