Good experience with Nicks from my Bfs prospective. He called to get a quote and Nick was helpful and friendly giving him the information and a rough estimate over the phone depending on the outcome of a diagnosis. We got his truck towed the same day to the shop and Nick kept him informed on the cost to repair the next day and ordered parts. Turnaround time was two days and we were able to pick it up the next day. He was not charged a storage fee overnight but maybe since he had the work done there which was fair. I brought our Subaru Outback in for transmission work. The owner started out with this could wrong and that could be wrong but never any prices. Called the next day with a price that I assumed was for everything. I authorized for the work to be done. The owner called when the car was finished and the price had gone up a $1000. He proceeded to tell me the we had to do this and had to do that but never called to inform us of the price increase. If you decide to take your car to this guy, get everything in writing. Reason for Mechanic Visit I needed an urgent oil change and top off on my vehicle due to a newly noted leak as well as possible issues with transmission. Nick (or Anthony) was very helpful, knowledgeable, and detailed. He took a decent amount of time to discuss the mechanics of transmission issues. Initial Estimate Based on the need for an oil change, my estimate was between $140-$170 (FOR AN OIL CHANGE). The $170 was to do an inspection of what seemed to be fluids, hoses, and belts -- this is something I could see with my own eyes and didn't need a "mechanic" to tell me needed replacement. Products Additionally, Nick/Anthony stated "we dont use cheap oil like Valvoline or Pennzoil, we use Castor and Mobil" as a rational as to why his prices were higher. Actual work After the work was done, I noted they use FVP synthetic blend oil, which is not in par with Castor or Mobil motor oil. This is false advertisement and the work is not commensurate with the cost. Final bill The final cost of the OIL CHANGE and "inspection" was $197. Definitely not worth the expense. I will never return to this place and I will make sure to share this information with others in the future in conversation regarding auto care/maintenance. This is the worst car experience I've had. I'm passing though town from Las Vegas to Oregon. The first sign that I should have gone somewhere else is all the forms you have to sign. Two different forms and three signatures. Long story short, he is basically overcharging me by 150 dollars but I needed the car done the same day. Please don't go here. I should have went to Silver State Auto instead. I think he overcharged me because I'm out of state now. He lost a customer for life because I'm moving back to Nevada, specifically Reno. Where to begin. Let's see. I love how you talk about cheap parts. They are simply brake pads from O'Reilly's. They are ceramic pads that I usually get for my car. The way you see cheap you make them out to be some no name brake pads from unknown place. O'Reilly brake pads are standard, normal brake pads that millions of Americans use everyday. You tried up charging me to some semi-metallic brake pads which no mechanic has every discussed with me before. You're original quote was over 500.00. I normally pay 280.00 to 350.00 for new brakes. I'm grateful I talked to you down to 447.00. I still overpaid by over 100.00. Yes, my Dad did pay for unexpected repairs. You won't take his credit card over the phone. Which honestly I understand. You don't know who this person is and have no idea if you can trust them. That is the terrible position you find yourself in, "Tony". When you spend your life ripping people off, you think everyone is going to try to rip you off. It took about an hour for you to be paid while I sat in empty lobby as the only customer/dupe for the day. Thank you for your discount to your outrageous prices. That's true. You charge a $115 an hour for labor. I think Porsche dealerships charge $120.00 per hour. You can keep calling me but I not changing my post. I understand why this place has decent reviews. Initially Tony (who runs the place) is nice, knowledgeable and helpful. The devil is in the details though. Their system for invoicing is antiquated which easily can lead to them confusing themselves. For example, they charge you a fee if you use a card. Up to 5% if you use a CC. I Brought my car in to fix a CV joint, equipped with a quote from another shop in town. Tony said he would match their price no problem and made me feel good about their ability to fix my issue. A few days later I come back to get my car and low and behold the price has changed. Went up by $70 on a $450 bill. What makes it worse is he couldn't explain why it went up. Just kept trying to explain that it had to with the part and the fees. Reality is he charged me for labor than the other quote (even though he said he would match it). My 1994 campervan had its catalytic converter stolen while in a commercial storage. Some theft ring had cut the fence and took cc from eight of us despite cameras and lights. Anthony was very polite, efficient, and supportive. He ordered the part from California the first day and had the new one installed by early afternoon the next day. I stayed at a cheap midtown hotel and his shop was walking distance from there. That was lucky for me, since I flew in from Alaska. Well, I had an engine installed, for right, around $7,000 plus plus, just about a year ago! Already, the work done was NOT worth all the money that I had saved in the world! !!!!! There was, of course, no warranty on the engine, as I paid and ordered it myself! I did not realize that a mechanic would do all that for a person! Anyway, I PAID CASH 2 Tony's Automotive to go through the ENTIRE ENGINE and replace ALL OF THE GASKETS, including the MAIN SEAL for the transmission and, 4 SURE, INCLUDING the head gasket!! Took in my old Expedition. She needed a tuneup and the engine design is not a peach to work on. I actually had a couple people tell me they didnt want to mess with it. Others were just way too expensive. But Tony at Nicks Automotive was kind and honest. Straight forward but didnt pressure or try to tell me I needed lots of crazy repairs. He was educational and kept me informed along the way on what my options were. My truck runs better than ever now and didnt cost me an arm and a leg and only had it a day and a half. So fast. Do not use this place. The owner "Tony" is a scam artist. he will up charge your bill by double the amount. He has this tactic that he uses. He will quote you a price, then give you a call later in the day saying that the "job is really kicking his behind" and that it is going to be more money, but he won't tell you how much. Let me start this review off by stating I am a capable mechanic myself and that all of my interactions with Nicks Automotive are on behalf of my grandmother and her vehicle, which I took to the shop for her while I was in town visiting. Also I will state that so far during all interactions with Tony, he hasn't yet been rude. I came into Nicks Automotive and met Tony, I proceeded to tell him what I was able to see wrong with my grandmothers vehicle and wanted him to look it over and see what all was wrong. As anyone who has dealt with Tony, he likes to go on for hours trying to explain what was found and everything that goes on to fix it and what kind of parts he uses and how great of a mechanic he is and I'm sure you would get some kind of life story out of him.... But being a mechanic I politely cut him short as I know the laundry list of details. Tony then starts scribbling on a piece of paper writing numbers down and roughly guesses prices of parts, which ends up being your rough quote. After receiving the quote, I left for the day and returned with my grandmother as the repair bill was gonna be $2200+ and since she isnt a dummy and it isnt my money I was spending, she needed to be present to confirm the price and to play the down payment on the parts. So far up until this point, Tony seemed pretty straight forward and knew what he was doing as most of his process mirrored my own minus the quote style. So we left the vehicle with Tony and unfortunately I had to fly back home to North Carolina. Ever since I left, my grandmother has been getting calls from the shop about this part being wrong and this job taking longer than thought.... Blah blah you understand where that is going. (FYI... 99% of shops bill you from a standard time that the dealership has said it should take a decent mechanic to completely. Waterpump... Book says 2.7 hours... Times shop rate. That time does not change. If it takes the shop 1.3 hours to do the job you still get charged the 2.7.... But if it takes the shop 6.4 hours.... You still only get charged the 2.7 hours. So dont let a shop tell you the labor is changing) Where was I... Oh yes, now my gramdmother is getting called about a check engine light coming on after they have completed the work and want more money to chase that down and fix it.... The check engine light has never been on in her vehicle... It had less than 50k miles on it.... But now magically the light is on. Im sorry but even as a mechanic I know stupid lights can come on and things do break, but please dont sit on the phone and lie to my face saying that the timing job you performed has 0 connection with a knock sensor.... Which by the way measures abnormal vibrations in the engine.... Wait wouldnt a timing job done incorrectly create an abnormal vibration in the engine....why yes it would. Situations like this would never fly in my shop, guess I'm just shocked to see it first hand somewhere else. I gave this review 2 stars only in the fact that so far Tony hasnt been rude. I will update it once our interactions are over if I feel I'm unfair, but as it stands now as a mechanic myself, do yourself a favor and find a better shop. read more

Was quoted 300 on the phone for a water pump...kinda high but I'm new to town and same day turnaround seemed pretty sweet so..... I signed a piece of paper not realizing that the Original Estimate portion was left blank!!! Later filled in for 469.18 ~ EEK! Ended up paying 380.22 out the door. - I've driven the truck for about 2 weeks now, and I have a sneaking suspicion that the water pump wasn't changed! ~ in fact I know it wasn't. ~ I'm coming for my 380.22 Tony. ~ Find a different shop, and let this guy get swallowed up in his 12,000 a month overhead....I should have known when he told me that ~ anything to make the rent.... During a trip to Reno, my Mazda Miata decided it needed a new transmission. Yikes! With no idea where to go, I did some research and decided that Nick's Automotive was worth a try. Fortunately, I was right. Tony (the owner) bent over backwards to accommodate my situation: he found an automatic transmission (hard to do for this specific model), made his best effort to complete the job by Saturday afternoon (so that I wasn't stuck waiting until Monday), and kept me updated throughout the process. Clearly the people at this shop take pride in their work. I am the fifth review on yelp, and four out of five people have given the shop five stars (which it wholeheartedly deserves). Best autoshop in town. I thought my entire engine had siezed was destroyed. I was panicking and in tears. Tony, at Nick's Automotive got me right in. After my car was towed in Tony took the time to educate me on maintenance of my car and what all was going on with it. Tony and his staff worked hard all day on my car. By a miricale my engine was okay although it need a lot of work. I have no second car or other means of transport so Tony and his team worked on it and got my car back to me that night. Update: it's been a few weeks since the work on my boyfriend's car was done here, and I would love to say that Tony's work made up for my horrendous experience; but unsurprisingly I can't. I would never accuse someone of maliciously ruining an engine they claimed to guarantee the work on, but since we've taken our car here, there have been nothing but problems. I had a feeling that when we left to collect the cash he so incessantly demanded (since he wouldn't accept my debit, credit card or check), that we should have someone stay to watch Tony and be sure he didn't take out his anger on the innocent engine; but we foolishly gave him the credit of being a sensible human being and business owner. Unfortunately, two days after picking up the car, it broke down multiple times and all signs point to this being purposefully done. Upon further inspection of the engine, we found that the clamp connecting the radiator hose had been "tightened" so much that it snapped right off of the radiator, causing the whole part to be ineffective and in need of replacement. When he called to question Tony, my boyfriend was told to "take a hike" (in less kind terms) and that the work was not, in fact guaranteed and he would not be paying to replace his faulty work. This seems to be the nightmare that never ends, and I would not wish the headaches caused by Tony and his work on my worst enemy. I have a hard time believing that this is the first situation in which this has occurred, and even found out that he offers to concede or give discounts on aspects of his work that customer's complain about in exchange for a good review. I find the fact that Tony solicits 5 star reviews from customers and that unknowing individuals believe them to be disheartening. If you look, many of his reviews are written by folks who have only reviewed his business, so maybe instead of accusing me of making people write negative reviews (which is ridiculous), Tony should look at his own misleading practices. These are the kinds of businesses that Yelp is supposed to help weed out, but it looks like he's found a way to get around honest reviews. Lesson learned.. read more

MR. TONY, the best mechanic I ever met! I had my car fixed twice in 2 weeks and he was so detailed and went through all the things needed to be done. Finding a decent, honest mechanic is very stressful and usually the prices were so outrageous that you do not know where to go. You buy a new car is not the solution to the problem as in the long run, it needs to be fixed again.
