They were able to squeeze our car in for service after it threw a check engine code after so many places refused to see us or gave horrible service (see my other review). We dropped off soon after they opened and they texted pictures and repair suggestions before 12NN. Allowed us to make an educated decision versus just being verbally told what is wrong over the phone. We could see what the issue was. Had it fixed before 3pm. They could have seriously upsold us on a $1200+ repair, but suggest a repair that was under $400. Very very pleased. We will be bringing more cars to them in the future. read more

In a service business, it's all about the people and the relationships you form, and it's so nice to find the same faces from visit to visit. My experience with mechanics, especially larger national chains, has been that the turnover rate is really high, making those relationships kind of difficult to start. Well at Fosters I'm happy to say that's not the case. These guys run a great business and it shows in the faces of their employees. I've only ever come to Fosters for a smog check (cheapest in town with check in) so when I came in for my last smog, I was stoked to see the same guy who did it last year! I was the obnoxious guy on the cell phone while trying to work through this service. He was incredibly profeasional and got it done and processed my payment without any interruptions on my call! Looking at the vehicles on the rack it's clear those who care for their car bring it here, and based on my experience I can see why. Good customer service and cheap smog test! For the first time in my 40 years of driving I had to get a smog test - well, I did't need the smog test but my vehicle did. Since I drive by Fosters just about every day on my way home from work I decided this was the logical place to go. You do not need to make an appointment if your vehicle is a '96 or newer - first come first served. On the day I went Colin took my info, hooked my little truck up and . . . . . . would not connect. Tried again - no good. Switched cables, tried again - nope! Being new to this I panicked and figured my truck was somehow unprepared and would not pass the test. Colin reassured me that it was probably the machine as it had been acting up all day. He asked if I wanted to come back another day after they had the technician come out and fix it. Well, the next day Colin called and let me know it would be fixed later that day. I really appreciated that he took the time to call me and let me know. I stopped by, and my almost 20 year old truck passed with flying colors! YAY The cool thin is the paperwork is automatically sent to DMV. I was able to go on line and renew my registration - no hassle, no stress. I am now a pro and know just what to do and where to go for our other vehicle. UNBELIEVABLY HORRIBLE. I have spent almost $2,000 since March of this year here between 3 cars and yet, neither Brandon nor Vince seem to care that warranty work on my daughter's car (Jeep Grand Cherokee) is taking far too long. Apparently, WARRANTY WORK DOESN'T WARRANT ANY KIND OF COURTESY OR SEMBLANCE OF CUSTOMER SERVICE WHATSOEVER! Oh and Foster's charged me $55 for diagnostic - in other words, they charged me for looking at and determining that their work failed!!! But as I mention below, Foster's ALWAYS charges a diagnostic fee, even if you're an established customer and you have them do the work! Foster's worked on this particular vehicle in March of this year (2018) replacing a power steering pump only to have the pump fail in October. Finally got around to dropping the vehicle off to Foster's last week Monday (11/19) morning, and they called me late that afternoon (around 4:30 pm) to let me know that the vehicle needed another power steering pump, and some other things and estimates would be sent to me. Estimates weren't sent to me until the next day and after consulting with my husband, I told Foster's to go ahead with the warranty work for now; this was Wednesday morning before the Thanksgiving holiday. The following Monday (11/26), I received a call from Brandon that their order for the part didn't get processed until that day even though he had submitted it the Wednesday before. Therefore, the part would take 3-4 days, maybe Thursday. Vince and Brandon are nice guys and I enjoyed working with them previously, so I waited patiently. Today (Thursday, 11/29) I called to check and Vince had to check on the part before calling me back. Upon calling me back, Vince told me that the part won't likely be in until Monday (12/3) which would mean that Foster's will have had the vehicle for 2 weeks!!!!! COULD IT BE BECAUSE IT'S WARRANTY WORK and I'm not paying their exorbitant auto repair costs??? Sadly, I think so. All other times, with my other cars and including this one, either Vince or Brandon would tell me that the part needed would take a day or 2, only for the part to show up that day and work done the same day. WOW. I first brought my cars here based on the great Yelp reviews. Initially, it was a car for an oil change, then another for extensive work costing over $1,400.00 (Buick Rendezvous), then this particular car for the power steering pump. I thought that bringing my vehicles here would at least garner me some respect, courtesy and perhaps, a sense of urgency. I kept bringing my vehicles here even after the estimates I'd be given would include the diagnostic and always extremely high. In fact, this is the place that gave me an estimate of almost $700 to replace a radiator on the Jeep, only to have another place give me an estimate for almost $300 less - and that was after having them work on all of these cars!! I don't enjoy writing negative reviews, but this place is not deserving of even 1 star. :( read more

The employees were nice and the smog check was quick. They also let me pay the registration fee and the smog at one time which was convenient. It took an hour and a half for them to change the oil on my car and fix the tire, but to be fair they made time for me in an otherwise busy time slot as opposed to a later appointment that I didn't have time for. That being said, I recommend you call and make an appointment instead of spontaneously showing up on a whim. Learn from my mistake! Very standard and reasonable pricings for their services, which extend beyond just oil changes and tire repair. My truck never gave me any trouble, so when it didn't start one day I had NO service place to bring it to in mind. A guy who's from the East Coast who comes into my work told me about this place. He told me in the way that they aren't going to screw you over, so I gave it a shot. They figured out what was wrong, but wasn't 100% sure that IF when they got the part it'd FIX the issue. They told me they've never had that issue before. So they asked if they could just keep it ONE more day to make SURE that my truck would start for me in the morning. It works great and they didn't gouge me AT ALL. The lady in front of me was like: "that's it?" for her bill The guy behind the counter said that since she was already paying for all the parts they'd just charge her for that and give her a break on the labor. They cut me a deal on labor because it was a simple part, so I paid HALF of what I was expecting to pay. Really friendly, really good at their job. Wow - I thought Foster's was my own little secret. I've been coming here for a few years to get my smog check (yeah, I know, no reviews on it until now) and I had no idea so many of my fellow yelpers have already been using them. They open at 7:30 AM and they say that if they don't have anyone in front of you, the smog check will take no more than 7 minutes. Today, I think the smog check took less than that. I was in and out so fast that I made it to work early. For $15.99 (or $9.99 with your Yelp check in) your car is smogged and the results are automatically sent to the DMV without any additional fees. Then you hop into your office and quickly renew your registration without any hassle or frustrations, what could be better? They are fast and friendly at a great price and it's safe to say I will keep coming back. read more

Having just drove to Reno from CA we realized our Kia Optima was due for some brake work. I called Sierra on a Friday ~9am to see if they had same day availability. They were able to get us in at 1:30 which was great! They told us that we needed new front break pads and rotors and it'd would be $500. $500 seems a little steep for standard replacement brakes and pads. So we said no, thank you. Paid the $25 diagnostic fee and ended up getting the work done elsewhere for $270. read more

I popped in to Foster's this morning to get an oil change - ALL I wanted was an oil change. I hate going to Honda or Jiffy Lube, asking for an oil change and them pressuring me with 25 other things that are slightly off with my car that need to be fixed. I get it - Honda, Jiffy Lube and other big auto service places like that have to make money, but sometimes I just want what I ask for. Anyway, I went in to Foster's this morning, asked for an oil change, and got exactly that - an oil change. I dropped off my car at 730am, came back at 830am after Vince called me to tell me it was ready and picked up my car. As I was paying, Vince informed me that my air filter was getting pretty bad and my tires should be changed soon. He offered me these 2 pieces of info after my oil service was already done, not before when I had just arrive at the shop - huge difference! Overall, an oil change is an oil change. But the fact that it's easy, it's very low-cost (I paid $50 here for an oil change when I've paid over $75 at Jiffy Lube) and that they're a small business has gained them a new customer for life. Like so many mechanics in Northern Nevada--these are nice guys who are sometimes seemingly learning on your time. I needed a radiator replaced--and Foster's quoted me 575.00 to replace the radiator for the labor alone--a stone cold scam. They told me the rate was DOUBLE because I had my own radiator!..I solved the issue by going to A-1 Radiator, who replaced the radiator for 225.00, and replaced hoses for me, too. I have worked on cars for many years-and know what I am doing. The issue is now I don't have time to do the work anymore. Most mechanics have a license to steal, and take advantage of people who simply know nothing about cars. read more
