I brought in my vehicle for a smog in May. I was a bit worried, because this was my first time going there without my husband. I had re-read the recent reviews, and it seemed that the usual "dude" was not nice to female customers. Decided that it was a good chance for me to verify that, I went, and an older gentleman comes out; not that "dude" that I was used to. Apparently this gentleman owns the place, and he had to let the previous worker go, because of the bad reputation he kept hearing. All makes sense! This gentleman owned the business for the last 40+ years. He is genuinely nice and cordial. Husband and I just took another vehicle to him for a smog today, and he was just as nice as he was to me. Just moved from San Diego and brought our two vehicles in to get smogged before registering with the state. The guy running the testing was very polite and helpful with all my newbie questions. I recently had body work done after I was hit during a snowstorm and apparently when the work is done, the battery is disconnected and some sensors need time to reset. I love this Express Smog, I always seem to get right in, it's quick, and they get the registration submitted for me. It's not a glamorous location, I don't even think they have an indoor area for customers, but that is just fine with me as I'm trying to get in and out as quick as possible. The most racist encounter in many,many years. I am a man of color, and the worker immediately told me not to come inside...I was wearing a mask. He wasn't. He kept asking me why I was there. I showed him the renewal notice. I told him that I needed it done, and then he said I would need a car. I left angrily, then drove back, and started taking pictures. Wow! I don't know if this place changed hands or if they have different staff, but it is definitely more customer friendly than in the recent past. I haven't had a bad experience (other than a time when no one was there during business hours) but it was always pretty straight forward and you might get a smile if you tipped. I had actually told some friends I was going here and there was a discussion about who has had rude experiences and who has good ones. Well, they sent me a coupon so I was going. This time the technician was very welcoming and friendly. They had chairs set up so you don't have to wait in the sun. Service is pleasant, efficient and quick. Another customer pulled up while my car was finishing up, and there was another technician available to help him. If you've had a bad experience in the past, I'd recommend giving it another chance because I was impressed. read more

I've been here a couple times and every time there is some reason or another the guy doesn't want to do his job. Every time, he seems to have some condescending comment. My mom said she had a horrible experience with him as well, but I had a coupon so thought why not try to save a few bucks. This time, I show up at 12:30 and nobody else was around -- it looked closed. I park in the spot and the guy comes out and yells to me he's closed because he's eating lunch and he tried just ending it at that and shutting the door. I get out of my car and ask what time he expects me to come back -- he said 2:30pm. HIGHEST PRICES IN RENO! A smog check costs $32 for cars and $37 for trucks. However, the attendant seems like a nice guy and the service is fast. The Shell station at Kietzke & Virginia only charges $20 for a smog check, so I took my other car there. read more

So I don't know if people read multiple reviews. But before I decided to post, I looked at the past reviews. Notice how most of them are female. The man there has a real hard time interacting with women. Plus he cannot do his job correctly. He's aggressive rude and shouldn't be allowed to communicate with anybody in the public let alone women. He should be fired from his job and if he's the owner he should get a different business. Who doesn't hate DMV and smogging your car? Ugh. Just a couple of blocks from my office, so very convenient, is this great spot. No appointment needed. And I have never had to wait more than 10 minutes. You drive up to the south end of the strip mall and the staff comes out, hooks up the car and the smog is done ten minutes. Bonus!!! You can also renew your tags right there at the same, just a second swipe of the credit card and the new stickers show up in the mail the next week. Wow! I've been getting my annual smog check here for years and will never go back. Wish I'd read the reviews posted before I went. The man doing my smog check repeatedly made offensive comments: from making a racist comment about my license plate to turning off my radio saying "well, not listening to that crap." Don't ever go this place for a smog test. I pulled up and it didn't look open, so I got out of my car. The guy working there came out and I asked if they were open. He was very rude to me and said I should have pulled all the way up to the smog machine. I explained that the last time I went there, they just ignored me. I then asked him to just smog my car and that he could be a little nicer. He then said " well, the machine is broken now, so just BEAT IT." I left there angry and upset that a worker could be so rude. I asked for his name but he just slammed the door and went back into the little dark hole he came from. The worker today was incredibly rude to me because my poodle was sitting in the back seat. Another customer felt sorry for me and told me I could put my dog in her car while the smog check was being done. He even complained to the other customer about dogs. Then I paid him after the smog check was done, and I said to keep the change. He sarcastically said, " I won't spend it all in one place," as I got back in my car to leave. What a horrible business. The guy who works there is a condescending jerk - the guy with the white truck with big off-road tires. I've taken all three of my cars there every year for five years, but no more. My 2002 Nissan Frontier had a Service Engine Soon light on last week, I used my scan tool (I work on my own cars) to see if it was throwing any codes (it wasn't) and to run the emissions checks (everything passed). Various on-line forums said this problem could be caused by a loose or defective gas cap, so I fiddled with that then reset the SES light. I take it to get it smogged today, and it failed because it hasn't been driven enough, which is fine. I thought it had driven it enough, but apprently not. Then Beardy McFlatbrim asks me if I just cleared the Check Engine light. I tell him the above, that it wasn't throwing any codes and it passed the emissions checks, but I did reset the SES light after fiddling with the gas cap. He looks at me like I'm lying. He mentions the Check Engine light again, and I tell him that it doesn't have a Check Engine light per se. (And it doesn't, it's called a Service Engine Soon light. It's an old truck.) I tell him I don't appreciate his smug attitude, and he smirks at me. It wasn't that I wasted $26 (I should've run the emissions check at home to make sure the truck had been driven enough for everything to be ready), but I will not do business with anyone who treats me like a liar and an idiot. (I've never read the yelp reviews before today, but apparently this guy is a jerk to a lot of people). Take your business elsewhere. read more

Been going to this place every year for at least ten years. Usually you pull up and the guy motions for you to move forward to the machine. Went today and some guy was standing out on the sidewalk with arms crossed staring at me. Not even sure if he worked there so I hung back. After a few minutes he went inside and his feet on the desk so then I pulled forward and got out of my car. He came out and said he could not believe anyone was that dumb for sitting in their car. I said that in the past I would get asked to move forward to the machine but if he didn't want to do the smog check I would leave. I stopped at this smog testing center because I had a coupon for $19.95. There was no one present when I got there and I wondered if it was closed. I got out of my car and started to go into what I thought was the office when a man came out with a disgusted look on his face and was the rudest person I have ever met. I have never been treated like that and I have been around some pretty rude people. I am an elderly woman and he told me that I look 160 years old and needed to destress. He told me to get out of there and never come back; he threw the coupon I gave him at me and told me he was not going to smog test my car. He kept talking over me and would not answer my questions; all the while telling me that I was the one causing the problem!! I don't know what planet he is living on, but it certainly is not the same one I am on! If he were an employee of mine he would be looking for another job and get a terrible review from me. I have been coming here for years, and recently brought my car for a smog check. I was wearing a face mask. The employee was sarcastic and asked if I always wear a mask when I'm alone in the car. I shouldn't have answered, but I told him I had just come from the nearby bank and forgot to remove my mask. He then asked if I believe it prevents the virus and was insinuating that the virus was a lie. When I told him the news reports that over 500K have died, he laughed and said "You believe the news? Oh, right, you listen to NPR". (Referring to what the car radio was playing). This was an upsetting incident, and I won't be going back there, even though the location is convenient. read more
