What's nice about this place is the drive-through smog . Stay in your car and even if there's a couple people in the drive-through, it goes fast. You can also pay an extra five dollars and they will complete your registration for you so you don't have to go find a kiosk. We actually use this during the process of purchasing used cars. We take the car for a test drive, and if we like the automobile and have decided to buy it during the test drive, we just drive it through this and pay the $25. Two times the vehicles do not pass the smog test, even though the person has a certificate saying it has. It's a good cheap insurance policy with you're buying a used car. I've been going to GK Smog for smog checks on various cars for many years. I like the service and especially like that it's family-owned and run since 1997, so you always see the same guys there, and they're always friendly and treat me well, plus they have coupons you can get on their website that help me save some money! Unfortunately, they were forced to move to a new location just a few doors down from where they'd been for so many years: they're now at 1972 East 2nd Street, Reno, and sadly, there is a new business at their OLD location (1960 E. 2nd) calling itself JK Smog! I'm afraid the similar name is not a coincidence, but from JK Smog's Facebook page, it looks like these impostors will soon be changing their name to BLC Smog, so I'm wondering if they got enough complaints to make that happen. When I went to GK today for my smog check, it looked like JK Smog is trying to STEAL CUSTOMERS from the long-established GK Smog! Only one person was in front of me and I quickly was the next client. It took a very short time to get my paper copy of my smog certificate that also is emailed to the DMV. Or mention it and they have always honored it. Recently I went to smog my 2021 car and was told I don't have to til next year because something passed for the newer cars. He could have done the smog, charged me and I would never would have been the wiser. Hands down the easiest, most reasonable, honest, and best smog station in Reno or Sparks. Friendly and fast service. On the way to DMV if you wait that long. In the center of town if you are driving by. The smog certificate is linked directly to DMV and the have the results of your car passing instantly. You can also pay your registration right there at GK smog and save the trip to DMV. Last year I took our 3 moving van sized box trucks to a different smog station. I won't name, but if you look back in my reviews you might see them. The up charge for "Heavy Duty" made the smog check around $50.00 even though the difference is that they put the stinger in the exhaust pipe and have to rev the engine during the test. I hope they did not strain themselves. I am sure you are paying for their gleaming clean waiting room since they take more than half an hour to do a smog test. At GK there is no waiting room since the test is done in minutes and you are on your way. it was $16.00 just like any test. We had all three trucks done for less than one last year. read more

This was the fastest smog check I have ever had. I called ahead for an appointment, they politely said their policy is first come first serve. It happens that when I drove down to get my Tundra tested, the last of two bays pulled out and the technician directed me to drive to the front bay. He quickly hooked up the diagnostic cable and started the engine after getting his scan from the door panel. Before I knew it he handed me the pass sheet and I tendered payment. Quick, easy, and cheap!! The whole process takes 10 minutes tops. And they also send your smog certificate to the DMV for proof.

Doing a older truck the guy was going over the rpm the test required. I kept checking my rpm gage and his computer. On 2,000 rpm test he had it at 3,500 rpm. I had to ask him why he was going over the rpm amount on his computer. He shrugged. I've had my newer cars smog test done here not a problem but if it's a older OBD1 vehicle go elsewhere. I think the guy had ill intentions over revving the truck. It's not a dino it's a smog test. No reason to pin the gas pedal all the way to the floor. I could read the test on screen while it was happening and he was going outside the test specification. Lucky he didn't blow my motor he was on his way to and I started asking why he was going beyond what the test required. Go else where anywhere but G K smog. read more
