I wasn't sure I was gonna be impressed by a little smog check shop but I was definitely wrong. I needed to re-up my registration which required a smog check. I popped open Yelp to see what the closest to me was and saw I had a couple friends who'd stopped just down the street from me and had great experiences. So that seemed like an easy call to make and off I went. I've been in this parking lot several times and have always seen the sign for them but never actually saw their location. Turns out they're neatly tucked around the backside of the building with a little shop that has occupancy for a couple of cars. When I first arrived there was one car ahead of me and only one side of the shop was open. Immediately two more cars showed up in line behind me and another tech popped open the other side of the shop and waved me over. Both techs were super friendly and sounded eager to help us with our smog checks. The two techs were having a convo and it sounded like the guy helping me might have been in the middle of something but he explained it wasn't anything important enough to make their customers wait. I appreciate this, these guys worked like greased lightning and I was probably only there about 10 minutes from the time I pulled up until the time I was on my way. The best thing about this place is that they offer to take care of your registration right there in house. I said absolutely. So not only did I get in, out and on my way with a smog check in under 10 minutes my registration was taken care of and I didn't have to go spend half my day waiting at the DMV since their website and everything was having troubles. I hope these guys stay in business for a long time, that quality of service is hard to come by these days. It's always nice to step into a place and feel welcomed immediately. I had to smog our car to renew registration and because of the Coronavirus Quarantine I was hard put to find an open station. When I called Express Smog Check at 1901 Silverada Sparks on March 18, 2020, they assured me they were open. Then later on that day I called again to make sure of the hours. Yes they were open until 5:00 PM. So off my husband goes to smog our car. When he got there about 30 minutes after that he was told "our machine is broken, we can't help you." After two phone calls and a 30 minute drive to get there, THEN they say "the machine is broke?" Terrible read more

I went in to Express Smog Check to get my truck smogged on August 19. It was a Saturday and they were open! I checked several places near my home and many were closed. After reading several reviews, I called to check availability. A gentleman name Austin answered the phone and assured me he would have me in and out in no time. I drove there straight away, and Austin seemed to be waiting for me! After the greetings, Austin went straight to work plugging in my truck, turning some dials on the machine, then printed out the results! He looked like a mad scientist hard at work! "Dr., it's alive! " I was a little fearful that my truck would not pass. I recently had to work on it, and I am not a mechanic! My friend had to put it back together for me! Austin said it passed with flying colors! (Thanks Josh F.!) Austin then asked me if I would like him to register the smog and my registration with the DMV right then and there. Of course! Who wants to go hang out at the DMV? I paid the smog fee, my DMV registration fee, and a $10 fee for allowing them to do the work for me. Such a bargain! A special shout out to Robert, the manager, and Austin, my technician! I had 15 minutes left on my lunch and I was 5 minutes from work. I only went to this location to scout a place I could complete the smog and registration. RJ had me in and out of there and back at work with a few minutes to spare. He was able to get the smog completed, get my car registered, paid and out the door in record time. These guys are the greatest- Not only do they recognize their "often" customers on sight, you're drawn into the bay without the usual "did you buy a new battery?" questions. A pop of the hood, some playful banter- and you're done for about twenty bones! Unlike many smog shops, these guys are smart enough to follow upstream- they know where to look for elder European VINs, and don't try to upsell anything they know you don't want. My only complaint would be the mandatory two speedbumps you are stuck going over to get there- from either direction. Update: If you want only TWO speedbumps, approach from Oddie, not Silverada, avoid the potholes in the parking lot, turn left, then turn right. Continue to avoid potholes in the parking lot. Seriously, this place has saved my butt more times than I can count. The fact that they register your car with the DMV after it passes smog, is a real time-saver. I don't care that it's $10. The gas and headache I save myself by not having to go to the Happiest Place on Earth is truly priceless. And, what if your car doesn't pass smog? Well, let me tell you. Last year, my old car was on its last legs, er...tires, and it wouldn't pass smog. I thought I had fixed the issue, yet, when it came time to try to smog it again, the little jerk, of course, didn't pass. The owner didn't charge me. He.didn't.charge.me. I was beyond stressed and seriously strapped for cash and that simple act of kindness just blew me away. He let me keep trying to smog it at no cost until the issue was finally resolved, and it finally passed. The customer service here is unparalleled. Every single person who has helped me has been kind, informative, and knowledgeable. Also, the owner (I think it's the owner) looks like Ron Swanson. "Never half-ass two things. I've brought four different cars here over the past two years, the most recent visit being this week. $18.95 with coupon. I've only waited once, and every other time I've been in and out of there in less than 15 minutes. On this last visit the young lady doing the smog tests walked up to my window and hazarded a guess: '90 subaru? She got it exactly right. When I use the $18.95 coupon, I leave them with the change, so they can get a soda (or slurpee). They don't make the big bucks working there, but their attitude and service deserve a little bit of thanks. read more

They Also Do Quality Repairs At Honest Prices! Robert is a super awesome smog technician. He helped me recently with my newly acquired older Jeep that wouldn't pass smog check. Robert is always upbeat, positive, and a pleasure to do business with. The brakes needed attention because it was pulling to the right when I braked hard so I took it in. Andy is a great 2G Mechanic. He noticed my brake fluid was very old and dark so he flushed the system and made the left caliper work again. The bill came to $35. Most shops would have just done a total brake job and charged me $600 to $800 or more. Andy took the time to explain everything and gave me a couple options. My brakes work fine now. While there for oil change I got a quote on a over due repair I needed. Price was very reasonable so I scheduled the repair. Work was performed on time and exceeded my expectations. One star is for the rudeness, not honoring their words and high cost. My dad went their and got his smog check but didnot pass. The guy charged him ~$30 and said next time after he gets the problem fix, he would only charge ~$15. So my dad got the problem fixed, come back, another guy charged him $22. I wasnt there, my dad doesnt speak English so he called me and gave the phone to talk to this guy (on Aug 15, 2017). I explained the situation and he said he can not do that, hes the only one there, everyone was on vacation and then just hung up when I did not finish talking yet. He was very rude on the phone. It just doesn't get better than working with Robert and Andy at Express Smog. I'd had work done on my car so it had no data to transmit for the smog check. Ok, I moved to Reno about a year ago and had to smog my cars. On my way to the DMV I just looked up the closest smog place to me and found express. When I pulled up RJ grated me and not only was he friendly and professional but quick! This year when I pulled in the mechanic Andy was there along with RJ and the service was exceptional! Friendly and professional and they were able to renew my registration right there, saving me at least 3 hours at the DMV or an hour going to and waiting at AAA. If you need your car smogged or need mechanic work, I wouldn't hesitate to give these guys a visit. read more

I went to get my smog/registration and halfway through the emissions test the employee told me they lost their license due to a change of management and couldn't do registration. They could have told me before to avoid me having to go back to the DMV, but instead they decided to force me to pay for the smog check when I could have just gone somewhere else.
