Yes, they fixed an oil pan leak and informed me of a belt which was cracked, so I allowed them to replace. But they kept insisting that my spark plugs showed at least 50,000 miles of wear. I have a local garage in Boulder City and I have used them for a number of years. They had recently performed a 100,000 mile service which included new spark plugs. I trust them completely. So for this place to keep insisting my spark plugs needed replacement was insulting to me and my trusted mechanics. Also, I don't know if prices are higher here due to proximity to CA, but labor was over $50 higher per hour. Shame on me for not shopping around, but I relied on the overall good rating this shop received. read more

Took my car in to get two doors/ locks fixed--they were able to get me in right away and the work was fast. Great communication too every step of the way, and I really liked the itemized electronic invoice approval process. No pushy add ons, which you don't always find! The reason for 1 star off -- the problem was fixed, but one of the doors doesn't close totally smoothly anymore, and same with the second door which then progressed to not opening at all after a day...obvi less than ideal. On the plus side, they got me in almost immediately to fix the inoperable door, and offered to replace the part on the second door if it still is a little rough by the end of the week. Apparently due to the age of my car, the manufacturer doesn't make parts for it anymore, so everything that can be used is like "after market/make it work", which I get. One door is totally fine now, but the other, a couple weeks later, is still rough. Yes they said I could bring it back and they'd replace it, but like I already had to come back once, having to go back a THIRD time?? So frustrating. I have a newborn baby and a toddler, and juggling drop off/pickup/work/no car/ getting rides three times for the same thing....it's just a huge pain. I just wish there was a little more due diligence up front to not even let me take the car home in the first place. read more

I had to get in last minute because I was originally scheduled to get work done by the dealership. But when I got there they said just to even look at the car was going to be $200. Which okay, I get a diagnostic fee but my issue was obvious and the fee should have been disclosed during scheduling considering I live out of town. The guy was rude and arrogant so I called Reno Auto Works on the spot and spoke with Blake, I think that was his name. They were booked for the day but agreed to take my car as a drop off. They were super professional and I appreciated the communication. When I received my estimate, I did some research on average costs for labor and parts for my particular service and they were on the higher side but within range. Regarding one of the reviews on here, I am a woman too and did not feel like I was being taken advantage of, nor did I feel I was being discriminated against. It is unfortunate that this happens all too often and we have to be diligent and aware for this. But I also think people don't realize that this is a specialized trade and it may seem like the going rate for an hour of labor is expensive but this is what they went to school for and it is labor intensive. As a woman, if you feel you may be in a situation where you are vulnerable and could possibly be taken advantage of, make sure you do your research and educate yourself enough to be able to protect yourself. I felt this place was fair, transparent as to costs, and worth it to also have been treated well. read more

I have a 2001 Chevy Tahoe that was housed at my home in Fallon for several years, not needing a smog check in Churchill County. For years, the EGR valve malfunctioned but mechanics said that it wasn't necessary to fix it since smog checks are not required in Fallon, and only Reno and Las Vegas, I need to get my car registered in Washoe County and Reno Auto Works was recommended by my tire dealer. Casey was very helpful and scheduled my appointment and I was in within a week and service was done in less than a week. He let me know what was needed on the car, and rates were very reasonable. Reno Auto Works has 2 garages and is in South Reno next to Les Schwab Tire. Reasonable rates, transparency in what was needed to fix the car, and very pleasant on the phone with customer service. An absolute RIP OFF! Maybe because I am a woman they decided to rip me off!! $4,600 for brakes, shocks, struts, spark plugs/coils. Unfortunately I have to go out of town and could not find another repair shop before then. I relied on the Google reviews, which I am now guessing are fake reviews. I would absolutely NEVER go here again! P.S., I just got a call from Casey because he saw the review. How about you don't rip off female customers in the first place? My son's 2006 Subaru was making a grinding noise when he used the brakes. This shop does a free brake inspection so I made an appointment for Saturday (I called in on a Thursday). Within an hour after dropping off the car I received a call back with a diagnosis of a warped brake pad spring, which was the source of the grinding. We picked up the car a little later and when I asked how much we owed, the technician said there was no charge- the fix was easy and their inspections were free. OMG, I was stunned! BEST MECHANIC IN RENO! Casey and the team are incredible and have been quick, informative and professional in every interaction I've had with them. I have a 2013 Chevy Sonic that has given me issues for YEARS, and there hasn't been any consistency with previous mechanics. Casey not only took in my vehicle on a moment's notice, but he diagnosed, ordered parts and followed up in the quickest turn around I have ever experienced. I needed to get my check engine light resolved in time for the annual registration and he not only figured out the issue, but he resolved it and even got my vehicle to pass SMOG all before returning my vehicle to me! If that isn't top notch customer service, I don't know what is! As someone who knows little to nothing about cars, it's intimidating to find a trustworthy mechanic out there, but Casey and the team made me feel at ease about the whole process and were very transparent about pricing/cost. I have found Casey to be trustworthy, and that is probably the most important thing in a mechanic. He kept me apprised of the issues he found on what was supposed to be a standard oil change, but turned into a major safety repair. He found the problem, told me the "bad news," got authorization to proceed and finished on time.
