Stopped in at Sadies while in ABQ, heard great reviews. Walked in and it was pretty busy, so opted to sit on the bar. Ordered a couple of local beers and "hatch fried strips." The bus boy brought over chips and salsa, fresh. Looking at the menu, it was "Happy Hour," decided on the single taco and my guy ordered a stacked enchilada. The hatch fries were delicious, definitely recommend. My taco was good. My man wasn't to thrilled about the enchilada, but thats him. They also gave 2 sapodillas! I am not one to hand out one-star ratings often (this is my third in 6 years of Yelping), but I had the text book definition of a one-star experience. Allow me to elaborate. My cousin was in town visiting and what better place to take an out of towner than Sadie's? I mean, it's an Albuquerque staple. Everyone knows, and likes Sadie's. We get seated and it takes minute for our waitress to get to us. Not a big deal. Her name is Jenni and she seems nice enough. It's not particularly busy and we settle in for a nice dinner. We order beers and guacamole as an appetizer along with our entrees. And this is where stuff all started to fall apart. The beers and guacamole never showed up. Neither did our waitress. So, we flagged down another employee who eventually got them out to us. We asked this employee for the WIFI password. She didn't know it. No big deal, she said she'd try to find out. We never saw her again. In the meantime, out food never came out. We finally saw our waitress again to have her tell us that the kitchen had "lost" the ticket. By this time, it had been almost an hour and we'd eaten our way through the guacamole and four dishes of salsa. When the food did arrive, both orders were wrong. I ordered my entrée without cheese and my cousin ordered his Christmas. Mine showed up with cheese and his came without any chili on it. She said she'd bring the chili out for him but this also never showed up. I had mine taken off the bill and he hate about half of his as it wasn't very good. We simply couldn't get out of there fast enough. Our visit was as complete an utter failure on all fronts. The service was poor, the food wasn't good and at no point did anyone try to remedy the situation. I'm not sure if our waitress was having a bad night, the kitchen was having a bad night or maybe we were just unlucky. Whatever the case, it was an awful outing and I can't wait to not return. This was our first time here and it was delicious! The restaurant was huge and clean. My husband and I sat at one of their semi-enclosed booths that give you a sense of privacy and cuts down on the ambient noise. The service was prompt, friendly and courteous. We both really enjoyed our meals and the red and green chili were especially good. Just a few things for me would have made our meal 5 stars. I'm a huge chili relleno fan and prefer the lighter egg batter and the poblano peppers. Sadie's batter was more doughy and thicker. Although their pepita was excellent, I missed the option of getting rice. I also wished they had an option to get refied beans. I missed having creamy beans as a side. These are all personal preferences of mine, so if you like pepitas and whole beans, this is the place for you. The complimentary sopapillas were excellent! I tried not to eat them since I was already having a huge meal, but they were irresistible. So good! We will definitely be returning! read more

For years before moving to ABQ, Sadie's was my go-to stop for New Mexican here, along with Burrito Lady. I keep trying other places, especially now that I've moved here - one really feels one has to sample everything on offer - but I have yet to find a place more consistently delicious than Sadie's. We pretty much always get cheese enchiladas. Both the red and green chile are great - you really can't go wrong, though I usually recommend the red to visitors since it's harder to replicate. I've heard from family that the chicken enchiladas and huevos rancheros are also excellent. One thing that sets Sadie's apart is that you get whole pinto beans and crispy potatoes as your sides, rather than the refried pintos and spanish rice common at many mexican restaurants. These are phenomenal and are what first caused me to latch on to Sadie's years ago. They also give you chips and salsa when you order an entree to go, which not everyone does, which adds a lot of value. We often order more because it's just that good! Their sopapillas are also great! As for containers, the mains are typically packaged in aluminum, but salsas and chips are in styrofoam. Really wish they would switch to, well, anything other than styrofoam, especially since we can't recycle it in ABQ. They are excellent about packaging everything up for takeout though, essential during these pandemic times. The staff has always been super courteous when I go to pick up the food as well. Sadie's has always been a family favorite, especially for out-of-town houseguests. I haven't been there for a long time. I now must be strict gluten free (celiac). I read online that their fryers are separated for corn products. I talked to our server, who seemed to be clueless about gluten free & celiac requirements. He asked his manager & came back saying to avoid all fried foods. No chips, no potatoes for me. I got a pile of whole beans & two eggs on a fried corn tortilla for a regular priced meal. Of course I didn't eat the fried corn tortilla. I am very sensitive & thankfully I did not get sick, but it was very disappointing. Everyone else in our party of 8 had amazing meals & were thrilled. That said, the margaritas were amazing. I was able to request only half the tequila in mine. No pre-mixed drink. Overall, we had a great time. So no long fun tale to tell about Sadie's. I love to describe the food in detail, but I genuinely am on the fence. The food was decent. It wasn't anything spectacular. No flavors really jumped out. We both, got the combination, beef taco, enchilada (beef) and a chili relleno. Beans, rice and diced potatoes. The potatoes were the highlight. That should not be the case. Maybe it's really good if you haven't had numerous better places. They are raved about by some. But as I continue my quest, Sadie's is at the bottom of the list of the places I've tried, both this trip and years passed. So far for the area, El Patio de Albuquerque is one of the better choices. Amazing service! My meal was so good but I won't lie- the chips and salsa was my favorite part of the meal. It makes sense you can buy the salsa in local grocery stores. My margarita was absolutely delicious! My Chile relleno, enchilada, and taco were good... even better with the hot sauce. It was good but I would probably go with something besides the Chile relleno next time, and that's usually my favorite. Then they brought me free sopapillas! Stopped on our drive home from MO to meet up with a friend and stopped here for lunch. I had chicken fajitas - so good although the chicken was a bit over cooked. The refried beans on my plate were weird...like over cooked on the edges? Everything else was great on my plate and I'm looking forward to eating the leftovers. Randy had fish tacos, a cheese enchilada and chili relleno. All good but he *loved* the fish tacos. Corina had the Carne Adovada burrito and loved it. I went to Sadie's on a weekend morning. I got there a few minutes before the place opened and there was a long line. Folks were actually waiting for the place to open so it has to be good, right? Precisely at 11am or whatever it was they opened the doors and everyone filed in. The place is huge so they could acco after everyone. I sat at the bar. I ordered huevos rancheros. The free chips and salsa I revived was delicious. The chips tasted homemade. I could have eaten just those. I don't know what y'all do to huevos rancheros in New Mexico but it's 99% overwrought. Eggs, potatoes, beans, and a protein on a flour tortillas. If you folded it, you could make a burrito. In Texas, huevos rancheros is similar but with tortillas on the side not as a lining to the plate. And they usually have some sort of salsa over the potatoes. No need to dress it up. In any event, the food was good. Not the best but solid. Well cooked potatoes, soft but not mushy. I asked for my eggs over medium and one came cooked perfectly and the other was overdone. If I'm ever in ABQ again, I wouldn't hesitate to go back. read more

This is a charming Albuquerque-based chain restaurant. We arrived right about 11:00am and people were already arriving. We were seated in the bar area and our server was Cristian. Cristian was smartly attentive, asked all the questions to make sure we were getting everything we wanted and didn't require multiple returns to the table. I had a crispy smothered chili relleno. I'm a bit of a crispy relleno snob and I like my relleno wrapped in a egg roll wrapper. Today's relleno was wrapped in a flour tortilla and deep fried. The green chili was delicious & tomato based. The portion was shareable even though mine was too good share! I was so happy to see that Sadie's is still serving some of the best NM dishes in the state. It's been several years since I was here last, and the stuffed sopapilla was as good as I remember. Visited the Los Ranchos restaurant for dinner. We had a "trainee" server named Everret, with his trainer being named Preston. We only saw Preston one time through the meal. Everett was outstanding from beginning to end! The food was very good and hot and the prices are very reasonable for what you receive. Understandable and if anyone can't accept that then they shouldn't be going out. With that said. Management and servers should communicate the reasons for delays. Pre and post Covid. A 45 minute wait isn't be a matter of fact and a guest should have to ask. The taco was good. The complimentary chips and salsa with okay. The papers were a big flop. Absolutely no flavor and lacked any texture other than mushy. The Frijoles needed salt desperately. The ribs were tender as can be but lacked depth in the chili. I give food from this restaurant 2 stars for filling my hunger but not in flavor and for not being moldy. But I never thought a taco could be so bland I only ate it to kill my hunger. A family member had the Chile relleno and said it had zero flavor as well. How can anyone possibly screw up a taco or a chile relleno in New Mexico? This place found a way to remove the taste from New Mexico grown Hatch chile pepper and taco meat. I know I don't have Covid because later in the day I had green chile cheese fries from Los Cuates and definitely tasted everything in the dish. Completely disappointed. Will not eat from this restaurant ever. First impressions matter even when it comes to food and in New Mexico it is easy to lose competition with other reputable restaurants with flavorful food such as Padilla's, Garcia's or even Los Quates. I'm surprised there was a wait to eat here, because I was not impressed. I'll start with the good...the sopapillas. They bring you a basket with your entree, and it's basically like a beignet without the powdered sugar. Warm, fluffy bread, so I can't complain about one of my favorite things. I also liked their chips and salsa--New Mexico really knows how to make a stellar salsa--different from what I'm used to with Tex-Mex. I ended up getting a stuffed sopapilla for my entree, since those seemed to be one of the favorite menu items. It was one of their delicious sopapillas stuffed with a huge mound of shredded beef that was so dry, I sadly could not eat it. It's a basic NM restaurant. I can't eat chile now due to medical reasons so I ordered fajitas. The meat and vegetables were overcooked and dry. Also not many vegetables. My partner had chicken enchiladas with green chile. The chile is hot, the temperature was not. The serving were large. I had calibacitas and since I order it without chile it was not overcooked and was good. We went there to use the val-pak coupon otherwise would not have gone there. We're been going there for years and its not as good as it used to be. It's an ok place if you want large portions or enough to take home for another meal. Traveling through Albuquerque we went to Sadie's on the recommendation of the hotel. We were looking for some traditional SW cuisine. We arrived before 5pm on a Thursday- and the restaurant was already busy as its happy hour 3-6pm. We were seated immediately, chips and salsa quickly appeared and received excellent service. The menu is extensive and the server helped us select our meals. I had a beef brisket burrito and my wife had a couple of enchiladas. The ambience is a bit like a chain restaurant, nothing culturally unique, but it was cheery with lots of families and customers enjoying drinks at the bar. Happy hour offers $4.50 drafts and $6.50 margaritas. Our meals were substantial and pretty good- meat was tender and not overly salty. We had the sauces on the side (suggested by server) as they can smother all the other tastes. We had 4 drinks and the equivalent of 4 meals given the potion size for only $63. Amazing value friendly service and decent food. We were heading back to our hotel in just over an hour. Great place to come for a casual, relatively inexpensive tasty meal with leftovers to take home. read more

Average New Mexican food. I'd liken it to Mexican food I'd expect to find in the Midwest. My husband grew up in New Mexico and didn't find it up to his standard. Highlights of dining at Sadie's were the friendly, attentive service and the sopapillas at the end of the meal. The chips and salsa to start were good. I went with a Super Combination Plate of a Guaco Chicken Taco and Chicken Enchilada. I liked the Guaco Chicken Taco and it was loaded with fresh cheddar. The Enchilada was average, buried in a plate full of beans and potatoes that were also average. My husband said his Taco Burger, while unique was average too. The sopapillas that come with every meal were awesome. They were light and fluffy. We loved these. Overall, this seems to make many lists for top restaurants in Albuquerque, but it didn't live up to the hype for us. Not a terrible spot if you find yourself there, but not a restaurant I'd seek out on future Albuquerque trips. read more
