Thursday night in ABQ....we decided to take ourselves out to dinner at a location we had never been to before; SADIES on ACADEMY. WELL! What a fabulous dinner it was, with all the ambiance we could have hoped for. I have never in my lifetime (and I've been around the block a few times) had such awesome FISH TACOS.... they were out of this world...the fish was encased in a delectable crunchy crust, that opened up into the most delectable, light, moist, flaky, white fish. The drizzle of a yummy, creamy sauce...the crunchy cabbage in a corn shell and last but not least??? a good swig of Presidential Margarita! FOODIE HEAVEN people...you must have these FISH TACOS! My husband had a combination plate...and get this folks, I think it's so BRILLIANT...at SADIES on ACADEMY? You get to choose what your combo plate is made up of...choose two or three options and viola! the combination plate of your dreams arrives! My hubby had a chili relleno, beef taco and chicken enchilada...where he put all that food I don't know. He said it was so good, so perfectly prepared, that he was not going to leave one thing on his plate! We had such a great time. All the wait staff here are friendly and helpful. The atmosphere makes everything feel very festive and happy. The booth we sat in was lovely and private...and we felt as if we were celebrating something special. I really want to like this place more. My husband would likely pick it every time we want New Mexican food. I love the margaritas, probably my favorite thing. But I don't love the chile sauces, which is smothering if not ordered on the side. And I don't care for papas that usually accompany. Last time I ordered the taco salad with beef, which will probably be a go-to when I concede to my DH. Most dishes are huge! read more

AWFUL!!! After much research on authentic New Mexican food we were excited to find Sadie's- the reviews were good. The food was TERRIBLE! We both ordered the small combo- chili relleno, enchilada and taco. Everything arrived barely luke warm. None of the cheese was melted, Their signature potatoes rather than rice was unseasoned and stone cold. The beef (mixed with pork) was also cold and inedible. It's an Albuquerque institution that began in a bowling alley in the North Valley as I understand. I'm glad they were able to expand their footprint to more locations. The chile is spicy and so is their salsa. Their staff has the amazing ability to distinguish which dish is which and they look the same. The food came out extremely fast and was good. The service was also good and very friendly. It was a Friday night the wait was about 20 minutes, and which was true. we didn't have to wait any longer. In town with Little League baseball team Champions from South Texas. Brought the group for lunch. As the motor coach driver, I sat at the bar to get served quicker and get back on the bus. I had the pleasure of having the bartender "Craig" serve me. He was outstanding and lent an ear to my story. I ordered the large shredded chicken taco salad with extra guacamole. Over an hour after our expected pick up time and our whole order isn't ready. I have a hungry toddler and 2 other hungry people. We love Sadies normally. My order was missing: small taquito chicken, two chicken taco dinners. Small update: the new manager on staff appologized and provided a refund and a gift card. After reading the amazing reviews, we knew we had to stop by after a failed attempt of watching the night show of the balloon fiesta. It was crowded, so we had to wait approximately 20 mins, but the food was very worth it. Beware: the portion sizes are bigger than expected here! Definitely a good thing, but we didn't expect it, and ordered WAY too much. I really wanted to get Chile con Queso, because it had green Chiles. It was spectacular of a starter dish for the meal. It was a perfect blend of cheeses, a wonderful dash of vegetables, and perfect consistency. It was by far the best part of the meal for me. They also provided free salsa and chips. The bus boy was very friendly, and refilled our chips every time we hit the bottom. Other service members were much less attentive, but he was really on top of it! Stopped here for lunch on the way home from our road trip. Oddly, I felt a Sense of Deja Vu. I may have been here 40+ years ago while passing through Kirtland AFB? This place has been here quite a while, and shows it's patina proudly. Seated within a few minutes, lunchtime and this place is very popular. Great server! Made us welcome immediately and took great care of us. I had a lunch combo plate and was astounded at the amount of food! Tacos good, beans good, no rice, but papas and they were good. Chips and salsa provided, and a sopapilla for dessert. Wife had chicken stuffed sopapillas and enjoyed them, though she couldn't eat all three. Huge portions! Stopped by here for lunch with a few coworkers one day. This place is pretty big with a dinner atmosphere. Service was good and food came out timely. I ordered the spicy ribs which were average. I thought the idea behind it and the portions were great, however, the ribs themselves lacked flavor. Also, the side portion was underwhelming. Overall, I'd try this place again. However, maybe get a lunch special during lunch. Or come for dinner as I feel like that's when things pick up a bit more. read more

Classsic NM place! I'm a sucker for the salsa here (not photographed, sorry!) The Roberto special is one of my go-to's due to the green chile and cheese plus onion! And a giant hamburger patty. The huevos is also a classic. The added carne wasn't enough today, literally only 2 pieces for the extra $6 (hence the 4 star). Usually there's a ton of added carne so maybe a different cook today? Salsa and chips were at the table within minutes. Our food was on the table ready to eat within 5 minutes. Of course you can never eat it all! Huge portions. Consider sharing. Got take home boxes for the leftovers and the sopapillas. Order the red Chile. Beans are real beans and not that fake canned stuff. No rice but fried potatoes. Don't miss this little jewel. Make sure you are hungry coming here. The portions are GIGANTIC! The chips and salsa the start you with is amazing. Best salsa I've ever had careful it has some kick. Place was packed and I got there at 5pm, not sure if that is the busiest time of day for them. I was able to get seat with less than 5 minute wait. Service was fantastic, fast and friendly. Always one of my top favorite places to visit when I am in from Seattle, Washington. Didn't disappoint in any way.
