The fish tacos were delicious and they definitely give you a good size of fish in your tacos. They are not stingy about portions. Another plus is there salsa bar. You walk in and the restaurant is clean with some nice ambiance (awesome artwork on the ceiling along with other decor). The man behind the counter taking orders was very friendly, and the service from ordering to eating was very fast. The food was delicious, I had the Burrito California. I came here because I was passing through town & was super hungry. The Yelp reviews made me think I would be happy. I will give the place another chance.... I ordered a Cubano sandwich. It had sliced hot dogs & no pickles!! Yuck. I mean, if you're going to offer something on the menu, it would be smart to try to get it right. I bet their traditional tacos, burritos are better. The salsa bar is nice, but for a 'gringa' like me, it would be good to put a sign letting me know which salsa is hot vs. mild. Coming from San Diego I was most pleasantly surprised by this place. My girlfriend who is an Oxnard native brought me. This place literally has the BEST Mexican food I've ever had at a restaurant. Omg so good! I just finished one of the fish tacos with a side of beans, and had a bite of my friends' carne asada soft taco.. and had to give a review right away! Fried fish taco on homemade tortillas with a slaw and topped with an absolutely DELICIOUS creamy green sauce. I'm a sauce girl. I'm the girl that goes to a Mexican restaurant has a little plastic cup of every sauce the offer at the salsa bar. I'm glad I did. Sabors' salsas are amazing and have a good citrus lime, zesty flavor without over-powering the spices unique to each one. The beans are not those bland type of refried beans that are so common in Mexican food restaurants that I have been to. They actually are very flavorful which was great since I like to dip tortilla chips in my beans! The carne asada wasn't some tasteless rubbery, grisly meat- it was prepared to make your taste buds dance! Staff was very nice as well. On the outside this place looks like a hole in the wall-but don't be fooled. This is a little place that packs a HUGE punch in the satisfaction department. Great job, Sabor. read more

A little gem in downtown Oxnard.... The BF and I rolled into town early on a Thursday night and Yelped for a restaurant near our hotel. Sabor claims to have "world-famous fish tacos", which was a red flag to my Rubios-loving BF, plus a local review gave them high marks for their chile relleno. So we headed over..... The area is slightly-tattered downtown, but the restaurant itself is beautiful inside. Someone has posted a pic of the painted ceiling, which is awesome to gaze at while you're snacking on treats from a serve-yourself chips-and-salsa bar. The tables and chairs are carved and hand-painted with wonderful flowers, stars, suns, etc. You order at the counter, seat yourself, and someone brings your food out to you. The BF, of course, ordered the chile relleno and a fish taco. He enjoyed both tremendously and was willing to concede that the fish taco should be world-famous. He allowed me a bite - the piece of fish was LARGE, crunchy, not oily, and topped with plenty of cabbage and white sauce....possibly the best piece of fried fish I've ever had. I ordered one of their specialties - costillas de puerco con nopales (pork ribs with cactus), which was VERY spicy (at least for this gringa) but VERY flavorful. They have more interesting treatments of the usual suspects (tacos, burritos, quesadillas, etc.) than you're likely to find elsewhere. There is home-made horchata and jamaica available (mmmmmm....jamaica!) The staff was very friendly and welcoming. (The only reason I couldn't give it 5 stars was that the floor and tables all had an odd tacky feeling; however, everything appeared clean enough.) Support the non-chain, mom-and-pop places......and this is a great place to do it! read more

Well, in spite of semi-faulty directions to find this place and in spite of a somewhat language- impaired discussion between myself and the young lady taking our order, the food was pretty decent. I LOVED the guacamole...... it was some of the best I've had ANYWHERE. The salsa was quite flavorful but was a bit too thin and too salty for my liking. Almost everyone raved about the fish and/or shrimp tacos.........so we ordered the shrimp tacos. Perhaps, we should've ordered the "fish" tacos, but that's not what we got. Unfortunately, while decent, they weren't all that inspired. First of all, the shrimp were not seasoned, marinated or anything else to suggest they were a notch above. They didn't taste bad either.......they just didn't have any taste. They were accompanied by some cabbage, a little rice, and a whole lotta sauce........way too much sauce. It seemed to have mayo at its base, probably some cilantro, and a bunch of seasonings. While flavorful, it bordered on drowning all other ingredients. Since the sauce was very creamy in texture, there was no need for so much of it. I tried to remove as much of that sauce as I could and replaced it with the great guac and even some salsa. I never think of rich, creamy sauces and tacos together. I don't know, it was just strange to me. Honestly, the shrimp from Taco Reyes (in Canoga Park) are far more flavorful and seasoned than these shrimp were.....even the shrimp at Snapper Jack's are better tasting. Maybe we got the wrong dish. I felt like everything was fresh......nothing tasted bad, and some things, like the guac, were terrific. I want to give this place another chance, perhaps trying the actual fish tacos, but to be honest, it's only because the guacamole was THAT good, and it's reason enough to return. I feel like I just ordered the wrong thing, and I will have them hold that sauce next time, too. read more

They catered another one of my daughters weddings 2 years ago and people were still talking about it. Their FISH TACOS and GRILLED VEGGIES were a massive hit. Both times. There are 3 reasons why Sabor has the BEST fish tacos in Ventura County: 1. Their portion size! I get full off of 2 tacos AND it includes unlimited chips and salsa! 2. Their fish batter: there's something about their batter that makes the fish sooo moist but at the same time, it has that perfect thickness of batter where it doesn't get soggy right away and it's so crispy! 3. Their green sauce on the tacos: this light green cilantro/avocado-looking sauce just completes the whole taco. It compliments the fish batter too, along with the cabbage and tomatoes! Hands down the best fish tacos in the 93030. I don't even really like fish but this place has it all. The salsa bar is equipped from mild to spicy and if you like the real hot stuff like myself, just ask Juvenal who mans the counter and also happens to be the owner (shh..).
