It's been years since I last visited Sabor. I'm glad to say that the food and service are still outstanding. Food: for any first time customers, order the fish tacos. The fish is fried well and is very abundant. I also liked their Asada and Carnitas tacos, but the fish was the best. Chips and salsa were average. They used have a salsa bar with more salsa selections before COVID, but now it's served to you at the table. Service: the lady takin orders at the front counter is friendly and patient. Our meals were brought out timely. Ambiance: this is a very laid back and casual restaurant. You can be in and out under 1 hour. The restaurant is clean and very colorful with intriguing art. Parking could hard since their lot is small. In conclusion, definitely hit this spot up if you want some quality tacos. Since lent is approaching, come by for fish tacos on Fridays.

Stopped by for a super late lunch during the weekend. We had complimentary chips and salsa and also ordered guacamole, a salmon combination plate (served with rice, beans, and salad), and two tacos (one grilled mahi mahi and one carnitas). It was a ton of food for a great price and we enjoyed our meal. The tortilla chips were fried and salted to perfection, the guac was chunky and fresh, the salmon and mahi mahi were cooked well, the rice and beans were delicious sides, and my carnitas was SUPER juicy. You order at the counter and sit wherever you like. Our server was super friendly and unbothered by our special requests (extra tortilla chips, hot water with lemon, etc.). The restaurant is off of a busy street but there is a small parking lot. One star off because there was coughing and sneezing coming from the kitchen, which wasn't fun to listen to. So far we're all ok, hope they're feeling better too.

Hidden gem in Oxnard! There's a lot of Mexican food choices in Oxnard and this is one of my faves and go to spots! I always order the fish taco, it's delicious! My partner ordered a torta, which she enjoyed. I've had both the chicken and asada burrito and they're good, although more than likely I will order the asada moving forward. Each time we go the service is great! The ladies who have helped us are nice and sweet! It's a small place and it's a nice place for a chill and delicious meal!

Located in a shady dirty part of Oxnard, this hidden gem is serving up some tasty and authentic Mexican food. The service is fast and friendly, making it a great lunch spot. While the interior is that of any authentic Mexican restaurant, very colorful and welcoming. I had the mole, a cocoa bean based sauce with a slight spice to it, atop pieces of chicken breast. The rest of my party had the carne asada enchiladas which she said were so good she tipped again. The fish tacos are what they're known for and I can see why. The crispy fried fish on a street taco sized corn tortilla with a drizzle of some green sauce that made the taco flavor explode. I guess that's why it's called "sabor" which means flavor in Spanish. I will definitely be coming back. The horchata was perfect, not too thick, not too watery, without an overdose of cinnamon. For dessert I had the flan, which they claim to make in house. It was the thick delicious flan I tend to like, with substance, not spongy. Well that's this critic's review, until next time, I'll be eating.

Sabor claims to have the best fish tacos and they ain't lyin! For Taco Tuesday, I wanted to try something I had never had before in my neighborhood because I love supporting local businesses. Their taco Tuesday deal is $1.99 tacos (meat options: carne asada, pollo, chorizo, and pastor). Please note the fish and shrimp tacos are not part of the taco Tuesday deal. I tried almost all of their tacos; fish, shrimp, pastor, asada, and pollo. The fish tacos stole the show! They are MUST try if you come here. Their street tacos are okay, a very good standard street taco. The service and interior were 1000/10. The vibe in here is immaculate, the decor is so vibrant and welcoming. Also, they were playing my boy Pepe Aguilar on the tv. Love it! I practiced my Spanish with the cashier and she practiced her English with me. She is such a sweetheart and told me that the location of the restaurant poses as a challenge because of all the homelessness in the area. I parked my car in the parking lot next to Sabor and walked over for lunch and I personally felt safe. Don't the neighborhood/exterior deter you! This is a wonderful business that has some of the best fish tacos in Ventura County. I can't wait to come back for more fish tacos. ¡Yo regreso!

Some of the best fish and shrimp tacos in Oxnard! Phoned in an order and was helped by very friendly staff. Order was ready in 10 mins which is great. The tacos have a generous amount of fish/shrimp and the sauce they put on is excellent! I'll definitely be coming here more often for lunch. Will also have to explore more of the menu.

Love coming to this spot when I'm in downtown Oxnard. Fantastic food and experience! If you're in the area and/or catching the Amtrak out if Oxnard I recommend stopping by (or jumping off the train to catch the next) and eating here. Food is always fresh and excellent, it's authentic as all get out and the environment is awesome. They also have sea food / what I'd term is Cabo-esk/Baja-esk style dishes and options. Highly recommend for an overall great experience! Viva

Passing through Oxnard, I Yelped this place and wasn't disappointed. Cashier was super friendly and suggested the "Gobenador" shrimp taco. Hand made tortilla with shrimp, cheese, union, & bell peppers (delicious)! She also brought my cousin & I on the house fish tacos to try. OMG so tasty, finished with cilantro like sauce & cabbage. I also ordered a sope (meat, cheese, avocado, lettuce, & tomato) de carne asada (beef). Sope was hand made & meat had good seasoning. Only down fall was the cheese was mozzarella & not queso fresco (fresh Mexican cheese) to my liking. My cousin ordered a wet burrito with Chile Reyeno inside (Red Sauce on top-Mole like). He stated that the Burrito was flavorful & good portion size. No hot sauce required. Please order a coke to burp as meal is heavy Btw: their house salsa was spicy but with a good kick.

Wow! Food was amazing! First time here but I will definitely be back! The service was great and friendly, even offered us their most popular tacos to try on the house!! Definitely recommend coming here. The caldo was so good tasted just like it was from home at my abuelitas the cashier was very helpful and made great suggestions knowing it was my first time here. She Helped me decide on what to try for my first time, also brought me a Fish Taco to try as well. Ambiance is nice and welcoming. Great little Mexican restaurant. I blew in here with the parents for a mid afternoon snack with the after riding Amtrak from Fresno to Oxnard. We each had a taco, one al pastor, one shrimp, and one fish taco. The food was pretty darn good, with the fish taco taking the prize. We saw other people eating stuff that made me want to come back some time and try qothere menu items. The restaurant is decorated with a care, with a all encompassing fanciful mural that lifts Sabor beyond the taqueria realm. I did not find the prices out of line. Well worth the try! read more

My name is Jose Lopez and I am the president of Lopez & Sons Tree Service out of Carmel California. We came to Oxnard to do a job for a company that had used us in Salinas Ca a little while back. As you know being on the road and not really knowing the area we either rely on word of mouth where to eat or use Yelp as we did in this case. Sabor was amazing we have eaten here twice since we have been down here and I must say they are quick and really do offer great food. The service was excellent and the hospitality was amazing as well. If we are ever in the area again I will be sure to come and eat here again whether stopping here or just passing through. Pros, Cons, then summary Went here with family and friends. PROs--Place has pretty good authentic Mexican food. This is a great departure from "corporate" style Mexican food restaurants. Sabor is noted for their seafood and fish tacos, which were plentiful and good. Portions are great and generous. The free tortilla chips and salsa, which were nice and fluffy, are a great benefit. The horchata was good too. Price was ok. CONS--Place is kind of dirty. The inside looks a bit worn down. The staff, while hard working, is not very attentive and it takes awhile to order and get your food. It's in a ghetto part of town...it doesn't look that way on a map, but there are transients and hoodlums in the area. Go during the day. Would I go here again? Probably not, there are other places I prefer, and closer to my home. But, if I happen to be in downtown Oxnard, and hungry, I might stop by again....but during the day. read more

We (my husband and I) have been trying new places, so I scoured Yelp for somewhere good to eat in the Greater Oxnard area. I came across this place and there were good reviews on the Fish Tacos (which I LOVE but hadn't found any I liked in the Nard). So.... people said it had the best fish tacos.... had to try. I got the combo with one grilled and one fried taco, rice and beans. I LOVED the fried fish taco and will definitely be back for more. Wasn't a huge fan of the grilled version... The hubby got some sort of torta drenched a red sauce that he said was awesome. I saw them making the sauce in a blender in the kitchen, turns out, it was REALLY good - like a light tomatoey sauce with lots of heat. He got the "medium" version and it was super hot - like habanero hot... They're working on their beer/liquor license... We'll be back! read more

Located in a shady part of town in a run down building. Service was friendly. Chips and salsa bar was okay. Small containers to put chips with small cups for salsa. Meh. Al Pastor was quite spicy and had an okay flavor. Fish tacos had a strange after taste. Couldn't decide what it was, and ended up not eating my second taco due to the weird taste. So I decided to try this place since it has so many stars on yelp. And I'm glad that I did . The gentlemen there , who I'm sure is the owner was so polite and patient with us. I explained to him that we wanted to look at the menu first since it was our first time and he told us about his famous fish tacos and sent us some over while we were waiting . His food is awesome !!! And they serve beer . Is not overpriced . It's a good space for a big crowd . The parking situation can be better though . But since then my husband has returned several times for burritos . We tried the tacos, enchiladas , fish tacos , burritos , and the salsa . We will return !!! I love this place! Best fish tacos in Oxnard by far!! I love their fish and shrimp tacos so much I don't even know how to begin to describe the taste and explosion of flavors it creates in my mouth!! I've gone to Sabor many times and if I wasn't so concerned with calories and what not I would probably go more often :/. Their fish tacos are amazing! The first time I went to this place they left a great impression, not only for their food but for their service. I ordered two fish tacos and also wanted to try their shrimp taco but thought it would be too much food for one day, the young lady taking our order offered to give us a sample of the shrimp taco (el gobernador) so we took it. The fish taco was delicious, topped with cabbage and other veggies, along with a sauce (still trying to figure out what it has) which is what makes this fish taco great. The shrimp taco was delicious as well; the shrimp was grilled with chile poblano and topped with melted cheese. Overall a very satisfying meal at a great price. They also have a salsa bar and chips and one of the few taco places that still offers grilled onions. A great restaurant hidden on 7th Street an Oxnard Blvd. read more

This place is interesting. The hostess/owner didn't want to speak English. She got annoyed when I changed my request from 3 fish tacos to 2 fish tacos, as i only had $10. on me at the time. 3 tacos and a medium (small wasn't an option) horchata was $11.38. Long story short, the dude walked and never ate here, but in all honesty the fish tacos do look pretty good. Cost $3. each. read more

I didn't have the fish tacos so if I return I may have to update my rating. Lets start with the good. The ambience is nice, you feel like you're at a tropical Mexican restaurant but you're really in old downtown Oxnard. They have a self serve salsa and chips bar. The salsa was quite delicious with a nice kick. We had 3 asada tacos. It lacked the freshness that is poppin' with flavor. The ceviche was also a little bland blots of shrimp but not enough fish. It felt as it was missing something. read more

Had the fish tacos to see what they where all about... They where good just missing a kick of a spicy hot salsa, tapatio hot sauce on the table fixed it but not authentic ... Rice and beans weren't grate . Had a bite of a chicken torta it was like whatever .... The place looked dirty not trying to bomb the place but the tacos where ok but not the best in OXNARD !! I think Cabo or el pulpo have better fish tacos that they do read more

Food was delicious, service was great. Salsa bar was super tasty - I would continue coming back just for that alone. At our table, we had a shrimp and bacon taco, chile relleno, big chicken burrito, and a carne asada tostada. Everything was eaten and loved. The place is cute, and the bathroom must have been redone as it's super modern and nice. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped here randomly while on a road trip from LA to pick up food to go since we can't currently eat indoors. The young gentleman in the front was nice and answered our questions. We ordered the quesadillas de asada and they did not disappoint! He gave us chips and salsa, which was a nice surprise. Overall, great service and great food! read more

Very delicious casual Mexican restaurant with great food my family and I stopped by on a trip out to Oxnard the restaurant is in downtown Oxnard with a pleasantly painted restaurant, very colorful Mexican wooden chairs. they have a traditional Mexican menu and a Seafood menu. I ordered perfectly cooked camarones Al Mojo de Ajo combo plate that comes with homemade tortillas. they make delicious corn tortillas, probably some of the best corn tortillas I have ever had and I've lived in LA my whole life so I know good Mexican spicy tasty food this is not Gringo style yucky stuff. I also ordered a red chile burrito, a chile relleno burrito and a al pastor burrito everything was delicious they have chips and salsa available after you order and quick service it is not a sit-down restaurant where you order from a waitress . you order at the counter and then take a table and they bring you the food like most fast food restaurants do and very reasonably priced too. Parking was fine. We will be back....this replaces my prior FAVE Oxnard Mex restaurant. read more

Fish tacos were amazing! This place is a little hidden I only saw it because I took a wrong turn! Haha! I ordered the torta ahogada which was really good except it had too much sauce. I'll ask for it on the side next time but I would definitely go back when I'm craving fish tacos! read more

Some of the best burritos I've ever tried. The California burrito I highly recommend since it has french fries in it! The meat is very tender and has no ligaments. If I lived closer to Oxnard, I would be coming here more often. read more

I felt like I had stepped into a restaurant in San Felipe. The tacos were generous in size and tasty. I decided to take out as there was not one customer there during my visit. I've eaten here dozens of times. My favorite things about this place are: -Fish Tacos, Quesadillas, Al Pastor Tacos. -Free chips and salsa from a salsa bar. -Good homemade salsas. -Cheap. -Fast. -Consistent. If you are in the area (even if you aren't) and want to try some really good Mexican food, give this place a shot and you wont be disappointed. I've tried most of the Mexican food places in Oxnard, Camarillo, and Ventura and this place is the best in my book, especially for the price. read more

Absolutely stellar food! The fish tacos (Mahi Mahi) as advertised, are wonderful. Great flavor, texture, sauce, trimmings, etc... but the remarkable thing about them is the size! These are not small tacos by any means! I had one fish taco, one asada... The carne asada had a great flavor, probably the best I have had in recent memory. The fish tacos speak for themselves, plus the no less than 35 recent reviews professing their flavor. My fiance tried the cheese enchilada, loved it! I tried some too... full flavor, not too cheesy, not too saucy. Their sauce was very smooth, no indigestion like authentic Mexican can sometimes cause. Rice was great... I can only recommend. The building is a bit run-down.. the decor a little scary when you enter... but please don't leave. They create great things in this little building and the value is phenomenal. My husband and I miss the days when we could pop over the border and spend a weekend drinking in the culture, Margaritas and food of Baja Mexico. Now with the dangers inherent in the border towns we have forgone that pleasure for awhile. But yesterday we stumbled upon the restaurant Sabor in downtown Oxnard that transported us straight there. Alas there are no Margaritas or alcohol, but the food is the most unpretenious and authentic Mexican food I have found in California. Sabor's decor is bright and fun, murals of tropical beaches and bright parrots are painted on the walls and ceiling, and the bright blue tables and chairs with yellow sunflowers carved into them instantly lifted our spirits. It is an order at the counter type of place, with a self serve salsa and chip bar. They have the traditional Mexican and American soft drinks. They have a la carte items and combinations but they are quite willing to mix and match orders. I am lactose and gluten intolerant and ordered the Chicken, Beef and Fish Tacos with an order of Guacamole and Chips. My husband ordered a Chili Relleno, Chicken Enchilada Combination Plate. The Fish Taco is not usually included on the 3 Taco Plate but they made an exception for me. Unfortunately, the Fish Taco had a suspicious looking creamy sauce poured over it which may have contained a milk product so my husband got that in exchange for some of his Mexican Rice. The food was simple, clean and great tasting. The portions were generous. My husband said the Chili Relleno tasted handmade instead of frozen and microwaved and then drowned in sauce. The Tacos were just the meat, tomatoes, onions, cilantro and spices on palm sized corn tortillas. The deep bowl of Guacamole was delicious with just avocado, tomatoes, onions, cilantro and jalapeño served with a full basket of chips. And the best part was that all that food came in for about $25.00! We are so excited to find an inexpensive place with good food that we know we will become regulars! Finally some Mexican food in California that has not become "California-ized" with tons of sour cream and creamy sauces and cheese and hidden butter. So my sensitive stomach remained free of pain and distress. It is not fancy, and speaking a little Spanish helps, but it is fun and a great place when your hungry! read more

I Love These Fish Tacos!!! I heard an assemblyman gave Sabor an award for Best Fish Tacos and I headed right over. I'm hooked on that green secret sauce, tacos are meaty, two fish tacos will fill you up. I always have the combo w/ rice & beans or the carne asada nachos w/ fresh avocado slices. The shrimp cocktail is always served bien reportado, well done w/ generous portions. I'll drive 40 miles for this food, Oxnard is lucky to have this family restaurant. I try to visit whenever I'm in OX Shores. Very impressed with the owner, he's hard working and always improving his business. Everytime I'm there, it seems like somethings new. The girls in the kitchen are very friendly and attentive. I ate here with my family at the worst and most grease filled Mexican restaurant I have been at. My understanding is that the food is dropped in pure frying oil and they take it out of the fryer and serve it to the customer. The majority of the food is either microwaved or fried. The food had no taste except for the oil in the food. Do not be fooled by the good reviews and I urge you to not eat any seafood at this restaurant. Very good Mexican food. Burritos are huge and tasty. Fish tacos are very good. In fact, the restaurant is known for its fish tacos. Food is a bit Americanized, so look elsewhere if you want truly authentic Mexican food. The restaurant is in an older part of Oxnard, so don't expect a fresh look when entering.
