On the back of the Carciofotta alone, I would give S. Egidio 5 stars. Take a Neapolitan style pizza made by an Italian expert using a wood fired brick oven, then top it off with pancetta, an egg, and luscious black truffles. That's what a Carciofotta is, and hands down the highlight for me. But, it doesn't end there; I've had most of the other pizzas as well, and it's all enjoyable. The meats are freshly sliced at the time of making the pizza, and the pizzas are baked in front of you. Do not hesitate to try S. Egidio, and keep in mind that its BYOB. read more

You can tell the effort that went into creating the menu. We got the charcuterie platter "Antipasto Della Casa" which came with an assortment of cured meats like prosciutto, cheeses, finger breads/crackers etc. Foodgf ordered the "Amalfi" pie - san marzanos, fresh basil, garlic, shrimp, red pepper flakes, cherry tomatoes, etc. it was devoured within 10 mins. Foodbf got the "Bianca" a glorified delicious white pie with fresh ricotta and pecorino. During the summer this place has a great atmosphere when sitting outside. We began with the Siciliana salad. It consisted of mesculun, fennel, orange wedges, olives, and red onion. The menu mentioned pignoli too but in hindsight there was no pignoli. It was slightly under dressed. Next up was the burrata. The menu stated it comes with arugula, cherry tomato, olives, extra virgin olive oil and balsamic. Surprisingly, ours arrived with a large amount of prosciutto as well. The dish was excellent. Our third dish was the cheese plate. The three cheeses this night were ricotta with balsamic, Pecorino Romano , and what the waitress just called Toscano. We had to ask twice to find out what cheeses were presented. The menu states it comes with honey, house crostini and carmelized onion marmalade. We got honey and a few slices of focaccia. There was no marmalade. The fourth savory dish was pizza! We ordered the Regina Margherita. The menu describes it as San Marzano tomatoes, mozzarella di bufala. fresh basil and extra virgin olive oil. It came exactly as described! The crust was quite light and airy. Our waitress tempted us with dessert. We went with the strawberry shortcake in a small Italian glass jar. Order it! I REALLY liked the food in this place, I just wish that hopefully the get their coordination down a little better. It's a cute, little BYO gourmet pizza restaurant. Very dimly lit and intimate. The food was great, but I was a little disappointed with the overall experience. I was in a party of 3 and was the first one to get there (we called in advance- they do not take reservations.) I walk in and give my name to the owner/manager. At this point, the place was full but there only appeared to be one couple ahead of me. This was around 7:10 pm and he told me it would be about a 20-30 minute wait and said to check back in 20 minutes. Perfect I think! I go next door to have a glass of wine and wait for my friends. My friends come at 7:30 into the bar and said they checked in and it would be 15 more minutes. We go back over there at 7:45 and at this point the place is pretty packed and he tells us it's going to be another 15 minutes. Since it was so packed outside we went outside in the cold to wait. We saw two top tables open up and watched people who came in behind us get seated. I understand that two people are easier than 3, but when you're getting to over 30 minutes over quoted you'd think that you would leave two open and push them together. We finally get sat over an hour later and got to ordering. Our sever was nice, but nothing special- he seemed really busy. We ordered two pizza's (delizia & margherita) and one dessert (nutella calzone)- both times they got delivered to the table next to us by mistake. I expressed my frustrations to the manager, and he did apologize but just said it's hard to quote wait times when it's "byo." I wasn't looking for anything free, but it would have been nice if the manager tried to get us an appetizer out right away, or something along those lines. Like I mentioned, the pizza was delicious but I probably wouldn't go back there until they sort out their organizational issues. I'd recommend the restaurant putting a 2 hour max on sitting at a table so they can start accurately quoting wait times. Since I've been living at school, I haven't been in Ridgewood in months so I had no idea this place existed. I was parking to go to my usual sushi joint, and stumbled upon this restaurant! My boyfriend and I thought it looked WAY too good to not give it try, and quickly ditched the sushi plan. My initial thought was: FINALLYYY. Ridgewood was in desperate need of a modern restaurant like this. The best way to describe the look and feel is "hipster Italian". I know that's an odd description, but it's so true. And I loved it!! Plus, it's BYOB. One of my favorite features is the freshness of the ingredients. There is an open kitchen, which allows you to see the dough being made right next to you. And they even make their own homemade mozzarella! Where S. Egidio fell short, was the service. Although the staff was extremely sweet, and you could actually see a great team dynamic between all of them, they were just slow. It seemed like they got wrapped up in conversations with other staff members, which lead customers to suffer. On the bright side, the staff was so nice that it was easier to overlook their poor service. The dough: AHHHMAZING. I ordered the triolo (mozzarella, prosciutto, hazelnuts, a drizzle of honey) based on a recommendation from our server- YUM. My boyfriend ordered a pizza with mozzarella, tomato sauce, and basil (can't remember the name), but the two of us weren't fans of his. The sauce was a tad bit watery and bland. However, the dough was so good that we still enjoyed both pizzas. We really hope the chefs consider putting more "seasoning love" into their pizzas in the future to get to a 5 star mark! There is always a smile waiting to greet you when you walk through the door. The wait is not that long and the staff is very accommodating when you walk in with a decent size group. As previously mentioned by others, the menu is not extensive, however, everything on the menu has a creative twist. The ingredients are imported, which makes the food in my opinion distinguished from several other Italian restaurants in Ridgewood. Oh and the "Nutella Calzone," is a sweet tooth lover's dream! One can truly feel as though one is in Italy through the rustic and soft lighting atmosphere of the restaurant. The music is low inside and outside which enables one to partake in easy conversation. I had been craving Neapolitan style pizza for so long and I was able to find this place while we were in the Ridgewood area. I had to practically drag my hubby there, since he isn't a big fan of this style of pizza. It's a really cute place with a couple of outdoor tables and a nice, cozy and clean interior. We had our toddler with us, so we opted for al fresco dining. We started off with a caprese salad and it was delicious. Even my toddler enjoyed it! For our entree, I ordered my favorite, the Margherita and added prosciutto. It was exactly what I was hoping it would be. I'm actually craving it again now. I wish we lived closer! Waiter came over and told us they didn't open for another 30 minutes but after checking sat us at one of 6 or so outside tables. Ordered a buffalo mozzarella app and two pizzas. Pizzas are individual sized so get one per person. Pizzas were really good, service was spectacular. Great waiter and support team. Really nice, took great care of us. The chef manning the oven, making these pies of heaven is from Naples and many of ingredients are imported from Italy. The combination of spicy and sweet in the Fiamma makes this pie one of the house favorites. The pesto on the Toscana was so good, but I wish there was more! When I bit into the Carciofotta I was very pleasantly surprised by the pungent flavors. It was so hard to pick a favorite so I just won't until I go back and try some others :) My parents are espresso snobs so, when they saw it was also an imported item they said they must also have a Macchiato to finish off the meal. It's very small but a nicely decorated pizza place. I like the general wooden walls and ceilings, open pizza oven and kitchen. Bathroom is nice and clean. It can get packed before 6pm on weekends and you will wait to be seated. I like their appetizer menus, it had many variety to choose from. They also have salad, antipasti but main menu is pizza. My favorites are Fiamma( spicy and hint of sweet honey), Asparagiotta( asparagus cream with black truffle oil) and Toscana. Long story short, their food is good. Can I just say WOW!? BEST coal fired pizza I have ever hand, hands down. I had been craving coal fired pizza for weeks and man did this deliver. First, I walked in on a Sunday night - place was packed - but I had already planned on doing takeout. Within seconds I was greeted and my order was placed. Less than 10 minutes later, I was out the door with my pizzas in hand! I went with the classics - Margherita and Bianca. So fresh and flavorful! I can't find a single flaw with these pizzas, even after being slightly reheated once I got home. Definitely plan on eating in the next time. The environment and staff is so great. However, I did go inside to use the restroom and the restaurant is GORGEOUS. Everything is so new and beautiful including the bathroom. I'll definitely be eating inside next time. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive throughout the meal and I have no complaints about the service. I ordered the Margherita pizza ($13) and my boyfriend ordered the Delizia ($18) which was basically a Margherita pizza with prosciutto on it. We both really loved our pizzas. My husband and I were here a few weeks ago. We had heard great things from friends, so decided to give it a shot. It was a Thursday night, and the place was packed. It doesn't take much to pack this place though, it's tiny, but don't let the size fool you. For starters we ordered the burrata and pulpo and patate (octopus and potato), both were equally delicious. The burrata was so fresh and creamy it literally melted in your mouth. The octopus, cooked perfectly (which is not an easy feat) and so tasty! For dinner we ordered two pies, the carciofatta and the capricossa, both amazing! Thin crust, well done, seasoned well and clearly they use the freshest ingredients! The atmosphere is nice, like I said previously a little on the small side, but, their food packs a big punch. Outside seating for all you outdoor eating lovers, and BYOB, always a plus!! We just got back from Rome where we encountered some of the most delicious pizza and high quality toppings we ever had, but we found ourselves wishing for more of that when we returned to the States, even though we have always loved the great quality and wide variety of pizza available in NYC. S. Egidio truly satisfies that craving, transporting us to Italy and even offering espresso to rival Rome's finest as well. Stopped into today to get lunch with my dad and let me just say we were both very happy with our meals. We split a salad and we each got our own pizzas. The food was fresh and you can tell it was made with a lot of care. Usually after eating pizza I don't really feel the best, but here it's so light and the ingredients are of good quality. It also helps that the waitstaff is very polite and attentive. Definitely going to be returning and recommending everyone I know to eat here! One random plus, they play great music. We ordered tonight online. We have been to the restaurant before and enjoyed. However, after tonight's experience, we are very disappointed. To begin with, we were shorted an order of garlic shrimp. We ordered 2, received 1. The order we received was packed on the bottom of the bag and needless to say, the top sank in and it leaked all over. We called from home, no one answered, so we left a message, as directed to do. No one called back. To add insult to injury, we were charged a service fee and provided a 20% tip, as is suggested when you place your online order. One pizza, gnocchi, tagliatelli, antipasto and garlic shrimp (we were missing an order) hardly seems worthy $151. It was almost $32 in fees and tip. We ordered a bit too much food for lunch but oh it was so good. Not many people here. Friendly good service as well. I ordered the Margherita pizza with mushrooms and she got a mozzarella sandwich. The pizza was quite huge but it was good enough that I well finished it. Very fresh. Great cheese and a terrific crust. Probably the first Neapolitan style pizza I have had that I liked due to freshness. The mushroom topping was worth it. Instead of those little mushrooms you usually get on a NJ/NY slice (which are still good,) you get large oh so delicious pieces of forest mushrooms. The mozzarella sandwich was very good as well but not as much as the pizza. Still very solid with excellent focaccia. Excellent place. My company and I arrived at S. Egidio on a Saturday night around 5:50pm and there was a 35 minute wait for a table of two. The wait went by surprisingly fast. The vibe of the restaurant was good, lively but not too crowded. I did wish the music was a tad lower in volume, we were sitting right by the speakers. We shared two dishes: - margherita pizza (san marzanos, housemade fior di latte mozzarella, fresh basil, e.v.o.o.): The crust was perfectly baked and chewy, and held up under the toppings. We wanted to try the margherita pizza because with simple pizzas, you can really taste the quality of the pizza and the quality was definitely high here! - papparadelle pasta (pappardelle pasta, porcini mushrooms, black truffle, black pepper, parsley, e.v.o.o.): The homemade pasta was divine with the truffle sauce, a perfect combination. The prices of the pizza and pasta are more expensive than I'd like to spend on dinner, but definitely affordable for a special night out. The menu isn't extensive but very well thought through and all the courses are highly complimentary to the next. We shared the Burrata and the Meatballs and they were amazing ... very hearty portions to share. First off, they have the best tasting Neapolitan pizza dough ever. The finished product of Chef David's pizza dough is 10/10 in terms of flavor. Everything here is fresh as can be. For example, if you order an antipasto board everything is prepped right in front of you and if you close your eyes you will think you are in Italy. Pizza recommendations are definitely the crudaiola and pugliese. Easily my favorites. Come in on a Friday or Saturday and they most likely have some specials.
