oh, my girlfriends support group has a standing reservation on the first Tuesday of every month for breakfast and it has been absolutely incredible! The new menu with breakfast has been very fun. Everyone's getting incredible coffee drinks, and enjoying it immensely. I love the way all of holidays are celebrated and they make it so warm and inviting it's just the best together together enjoy the holiday all month long. It's not very many places that have festive decorations and the tustin and the Orange do that really well. You feel like you're walking into a party every time!!! sometimes it's between the holidays and it's still a fun environment. The seasonal food is great. There's some parking in the back, or ample street parking in the area. Rutabegorz is so cute and the quintessential Old Town Orange restaurant. They have a HUGE menu (bigger in Orange than in Tustin) with lots of salads, sandwiches, favorites, snacks, and everything in between. It's a little older feeling but definitely has charm. There's seating outside on their adorable front garden patio, or inside too. I split the peasant mushrooms and Beth's bowl (for two of us) and it was more than enough food. The peasant mushrooms are filled with veggies and taste so fresh, even with the cheese covering them. Beth's bowl was amazing and also super fresh and healthy, but still flavorful. I saw some of the salads come out and they're also GIANT, so splittable or enough for leftovers. The service is great and you're treated like a member of the Rutabegorz family. There are tons of healthy options and they accommodate for eating restrictions easily too! It's the perfect place to meet up for a quick lunch. I almost feel like there are TOO MANY options here! The menu is huge and there are tons of salads, sandwiches, wraps, entrees, sides, etc. to choose from. It took me forever to decide on what to get, but thankfully my server was very patient and helpful with suggestions. What I assume is newer revision of the menu includes symbols to indicate whether an item is vegetarian or gluten-free, and I was grateful to see a good number items that were both. While nothing is indicated as vegan, my server told me that most of the vegetarian items could be made vegan by omitting the cheese and/or dressing. They seem to be accommodating to requests like that. I got the falafel wrap on a gluten-free tortilla, and my server said that it would come with extra fruit and hummus to make up for the pasta salad and creamy dressing that I couldn't have (to keep my meal vegan and gluten-free). It was delicious! The falafel was a tad dry and crumbly, and the wrap did fall apart easily, and it ended up being a bit messy to eat, but not too big of a deal if you don't mind eating a wrap with a fork and knife. There are also two vegan and gluten-free cookies that they have, which I'd gotten a couple of days before during a coffee-to-go stop here. The Chocolate Coconut Walnut Cookie is amazing. Menu gives you so many choices and that's why I will suggest take a look on their menu online if possible. Otherwise take your time and enjoy the menu's details and descriptions slowly. No matter what you order I know you will love to go back and try your other options. This area is very lively and cool which can help you to walk around the neighborhood after lunch. I decided to forego my last Dallas review because it was negative and I forgot to take pictures. I will continue with my tour around the Orange Circle. When I came to Rutabegorz, I felt like having something simple like soup and a salad so I could watch my girlish figure - lol. It was packed @ 1 pm on a Fri afternoon so that was a good sign. As I read the menu I also found out the restaurant started biz in 1970 and there are two other locations in Fullerton and Tustin (another good sign). I ordered the hummus w/ chips ($4.50) and a cup of soup and dal side salad ($7.85). They have an expansive menu - soups (inc chili), full salads (like Thai Chicken), wraps, sandwiches and full entrees. The also have outdoor seating (which is nice in the middle of summer). The crowd was mixed - young, middle and older - some business folks like me as well as moms w/ their babies in strollers. The hummus was OK. A little too creamy for my taste buds. However, I was impressed at the large portion for the price. I had the chicken tortilla soup - a staple on the soup menu and it was OK. The portion was small (more like a side dish cup), there were too many soggy vegetables and there was no avocado or lime on the side. In addition, it was bland. However, I was impressed w/ the side salad though. It came in a nice sized bowl (I saw the bowl for a full size salad which looked like a water bowl for a huge dog), the veggies were fresh and there was a good amount of cucumbers, tomatoes, mushrooms and sunflower seeds (Sorry! Forgot to take a pic). The primary questions for me when I rate a restaurant are: 1) Would I return?; 2) Did I receive good value?; 3) How was the service; and 4) Would I make the trek from HB to eat at the joint? The answers are, yes I would return and try something else; the value was pretty good; the service was a bit slow; but I would not make the trek from HB to eat here. I came with 2 of my buddies for lunch and we seated ourselves which was great...no waiting, Everything was going great, the weather was beautiful...until our waitress came out. Talk about wearing your "Heart on your sleeve" in this case it was wearing her "Emotions on her face". She was so rude from the beginning and seemed very scattered and not focused on what we needed. We ordered our meals and I had to order 3 additional "to-gos" and she didn't seem to comprehend what I was asking for. Gave me an attitude about it and when the "to-gos" came out she also made it difficult to pay. Well, let me continue on what we ordered for lunch: 01. 1/2 Sandwich Combo w/ soup Eggcredible Sandwich ($8.25 + $1.00 to make it a regular bowl instead of the tiny soup bowl) - 1 Star - The Eggcredible was just 5 Sliced Layers of Eggs, Cucumber, Tomato and Raw Onions on Squaw Bread. I would not agree that this wich was delicious at all. The raw onions were so strong, I couldn't smell the eggs. Becuz this wasn't the traditional egg salad, the eggs all fell out of the wich, making this one of the messiest meals I've ever had. 02. Chicken Rice Veggie Soup - 2 Stars Chicken, Brown Rice and assorted Veggies in a clear broth. - Not the best Chicken soup I've ever had. There was no flavor in the soup. I did appreciate the healthiness of the soup but it lacked so much in flavor. 03. The Ultimate Salad ($10.95) - 2 Stars Ham, Salami, Cheeses, Shrimp & Avocados along with lettuce & lots of fresh Veggies (you choose your dressing) - My friend E had this dish and it was definitely healthy! The salad was HUGE, served in a bowl that looks like a mixing bowl. This salad wasn't anything special, we can definitely make this at home just AS GOOD but still way better than the Eggcredible Wich. 04. The Ruta's Club ($9.25) - 2 Stars Ham, Turkey, Avocado, Cheese & Tomatoes on Sourdough bread. - My friend Er ordered this and it was very dry on the presentation and taste. We were not expecting much from this place but at least the food could live up to the wich's rep. Overall, the idea of eating healthy and stuff is GREAT but when paired with horrible service, nothing you order can make any dish great. Also, my College Marketing professor once told me that "ONE person could bring a tribe to any biz". He also said that "ONE person could take a tribe away from a biz". I always believe that everyone deserves a 2nd chance but the rudeness today took away any chance of me coming back there with any of my friends. Way to go "S", our waitress! Their menus were these pamphlet-like books. I couldn't decided what to eat but I finally settled for the Citrus Kale salad and it was UH-MAZING! It was so big, I took almost half of it home. We also tried the $1 chips and bean dip. It was so delicious! My son had the kids melted cheese on squaw bread and it was soooo good. Great service....I'm really happy with my visit to Rutabegorz. Love this place! Frequent visitor of this location, but have also been to Fullerton. Fresh, healthy food with lots of vegetarian options. Super quick to go orders, and prompt, friendly service for dine in. I love sitting on the patio, but the dark interior is romantic also. My go-to dishes are the salami sandwich and the black bean chili, as well as their salads - which are all huge! If you have a sweet tooth, you'll love their selection of giant cookies! I was disappointed with the hasbrowns because they did not look fresh. Though our server was nice, our server appeared distracted once the cafe got busy and our check was incorrect. This is a popular spot in Old Town Orange, located steps from Chapman University and the entrance to the circle. I had never been here until the later half of my undergrad, as it was always busy and friends always wanted to go to other places. Once I moved across the street, I decided to stop in for dinner one night as it was easy to walk to. It is a quaint space that was a little house, remodeled to become a restaurant. (Apparently it's been here for several years!) The menu is ideal for those trying to eat healthy, have special dietary requirements, or those who want something different from the burgers, diner, and pub food offered nearby. Waitresses are all very attentive and friendly - everyone seems to enjoy working here. Service is fairly good - I've rarely had to flag someone down to get a refill or the check, which is nice. I love their raspberry smoothie and the pasta, which you can add chicken to. There's always leftovers when I get the pasta. Also like that the drinks come in these cute glass jar mugs. Now that I've moved, I don't frequent the location as much, as parking can be a challenge at times. (Depending on when you go.) But if I ever felt the need to come here, I'd probably come during lunch or a little before dinner. read more

You'll feel like you're eating at your parents or grandparents' house. There's so many items I want to try. Here's what I've tasted so far: Garlic Chicken Salad - a must try, especially if you love candied walnuts. At first glance, the salad looks big enough to feed 2, but it tastes so good you'll keep digging in for another bite. I actually ate half and packed the rest to-go, but ended up eating the rest as soon as I got to my car. My only slight criticism is that the chicken could use more garlic. Chicken Salad Sandwich -are you noticing a theme here? This sandwich also had walnuts (but not sugar-coated). It was wholesome and delicious. Tuna Salad Sandwich - just like the chicken salad sandwich, this was wholesome. I especially like how Rutabegorz uses squaw bread for these sandwiches. It gives the right balance to the mayo. Dala Salad - basically a garden salad with carrots, celery, cucumbers, tomatoes and sunflower seeds. It's good as an accompaniment to a sandwich or soup, but not exactly filling as a stand-alone meal. Cockie Leeky - a chicken and rice soup with leeks in a creamy broth. Delicious! Chicken Rice Vegetable Soup - this had a generous helping of vegetables in a clear broth. I love the variety of vegetables (not just carrots and celery, but cauliflower and broccoli too). The chicken is chunky yet tender, and I like how the broth wasn't too salty. Carrot Cake - there's always room for dessert, that's what I always say. The carrot cake is definitely big enough to share. It'll put you over the top. It's a bit dense for my taste, almost like a carrot muffin or loaf. I prefer my cakes moist. Nonetheless, I couldn't help myself. Nuts, raisins, and a sweet cream cheese topping, how could I resist? You really get a good variety here. There's items that are inspired by the local culture, and then there's items that you've probably eaten a million times and would gladly eat a million more. The familiarity of it just makes you happy. There's three locations in OC--Tustin, Fullerton, and Orange. Here's a tip. If you're going to try the dip special, it's cheaper at the Tustin location (45 cents vs $1). But if you're in the mood for a drink and bar snacks, go to Orange for Happy Hour. read more
