Favorite restaurant in Anchorage! If you are visiting or a local and want a great spot outside of downtown with great food, this is the place. Everything from the food to the ambiance​ was amazing! Cool and quirky atmosphere! Great for a quick espresso on the go (as they have a full espresso/coffee bar menu) or an actual sit down meal. This place is nothing short of impressive. They are understaffed due to the pandemic but dang do these people work hard. It always seems to be crowded when we come in and the atmosphere is fun and modern. There was one bartender, named Jam, for the entire bar area and she moves at the speed of light with a smile and didn't make any mistakes on our order. Our glasses were never empty, were talking near perfection for her impossible work load. The food takes a little longer due to the staffing so if you are looking for a quick abrasive dinner probably should turn around. It is well worth the wait so sit drink and relax, they have the most delish and interesting takes on calamari, nachos, burgers, and everything in between. The portions are perfect, not too large like most American restaurants but not too small either, as a healthy person I appreciate this. There is an open kitchen and you have a pleasure to watch the genius that is Chef Hunter manipulate the peel as if he was a Samurai swinging his katana, making the most delicious brick oven pizza. read more

I've been dying to review this place I had such high hopes for. For starters the place is gorgeous. The layout is really trendy and modern. It's pretty badass and there are a ton of windows. It's beautiful really & when it's warm out you can eat outside which is gorgeous. But... the FOOD is not all that. Especially with the prices they label em. My girlfriend and I had the bison sliders which was extremely dry and the cheese overpowered the whole damn thing. I felt like I needed to add salt and pepper to it. Next we had the calamari strips which were a lil undercooked. Das for damn sure. The plate with the calamari had a ton of yummy sauce. I asked the waitress for bread so I could soak it up (duh) and she looks at me with a stupid look and hands me two pieces of stale ass bread like OKAY THANKS. Lastly the desert was nothing special. Some kind of chocolate lava cake it was amateur to say the least. The only thing that made this an AWESOME experience is someone saw me in uniform and paid for my meal and said thanks for your service lol. That made my year. Besides that screw this place. Went in for lunch on deck, server not really too energetic in her job I get it sometimes. Ordered the salad and soup that was on menu for light lunch. She told me that the soup is actually not the tomatoe bisque but corn chowder I happy agreed with that as sounded good. Ppl behind us got there food before me. I've heard a lot of good things from friends about this place and I was disappointed when I got my food. Most people told me to get the mac and cheese, a pizza or the nachos. I looked on yelp before I ordered and got the mac and cheese. It definitely was a small plate. A good size. I think that a larger portion would have been too overwhelming. There are onions in this one and I didn't like them very much. This was one of the oiliest mac and cheeses that I've ever had. The bacon really hits you. One of the friends that I was with ordered the nachos. It's a huge plate. It shouldn't be under small plates. They were all right. I didn't like that they sweetened the jalapeños. I don't think that I'll come here again. The food didn't wow me and I don't think that anything else on their small menu will? If I do, I think that I'll get a side, a drink or dessert. After reading through the reviews for the Goat, I noticed many recurring opinions: Great setting and ambiance. Service is lacking. Wait time is off putting. Food is usually great. I bring this up in order to state that I've experienced all these things on my visits here as well. I don't have an original take on the situation, but maybe that is more telling in the long run than if I did. On my last visit, I had the distinct feeling that I couldn't wait to leave the whole time I was there. The downstairs seating area just had too much going on. All the employees look miserable. People are constantly scrambling for a seat. It took an excessive amount of time for any and everything to happen: menu, drinks, food, bill, etc. My beer was delicious and the appetizer we ordered was tasty...... but I just wanted to get out of there. Came because of a friend's recommendation. I just moved to Anchorage and was looking for suggestions. This place has the seattle and sf vibe. Farm to table and nice atmosphere. Very clean, second floor with great lighting from natural sunlight. The price for the food is a bit more than I expected. Over 20 dollars for dinner entrees. Portions were decent. I had the skewers which has reindeer sausages and steak over tomato based cajun rice. Yummy. They also use local fish, salmon, of course. Local beers as well. I'll come back to try other dishes. This is an a-ok spot. It's on the pricier side with small-ish portions. Service is friendly and speedy. It's a modern, minimalist space. There's a small bar area and some seating downstairs, with additional seating upstairs. The blue cheese salad was inventive and tasty, but definitely on the small side. I liked the food- everything was rich and decadent. Sweet tea in a carafe' FIVE SOUTHERN STARS!! Good sweet tea is a rare thing in Alaska!! I loved the fried olives! The mac and cheese was good- but will never HAVE to get it again. I'm more fond of Gingers Scallop Mac and Cheese Entree for my Mac Fix. Got the gnocchi pork entree. Flavor was yum- pork was tender and delicious. Most every restaurant over cooks pork and most costumers prefer tough meat cause they are fearful of pork. I cook mine at home just as tender as they do... and it is so yum!! Other ppl in my group got the fries with the special dipping sauce--- reminded me of "come back sauce" from the south. Sinfully addictive. Nachos with candied jalapenos... LIT ME UP. I would opt for the jalapenos on the side if I ever ordered these. Other ppl in my group LOVED them- Tried the smores thing for dessert- it was a chocolate sensation! Much yum! But I AGREE with everyone else the VIEW of this restaurant trumps the food... I've eaten at rustic goat many times and my favorite has always been the chicken nachos. The nachos are labeled as gluten free, which is great for me since I have celiac disease but the time before last I got severely ill I was diagnosed 35 years ago so I know the celiac symptoms well by now. Last night I decided to try it again. We ordered the nachos again and stressed that it must be gluten free. That batch was fine I felt no symptoms and we ordered one more chicken nachos. The second one tasted different and I stopped eating it after a few bites. This morning I'm ill again. My fiance who kept eating said she found a couple of hairs and a piece of bacon in it before she stopped eating. I think the quality of the food has gone downhill and I won't be eating there anymore. read more

Pretty disappointing the bar is no longer open seating-- that was what we loved about the Goat! When we walked in on a Friday night, a usually packed bar area was inefficiently used, because tables of two were sat at bar tables that can hold 8. First stop from the airport was a winner! Really liked this place. Nice wood interior, with a black concrete (?) bar, Edison lights and large, industrial feel windows. Pulled pork nachos were very good and very large. More cheese than I've ever had on nachos before--maybe a little too much, which is hard to say, because I'm a big fan of cheese. I guess that's how I'd put on my blubber if I was staying for the winter. ;o) Hubs had the skewer special, with rib eye and reindeer sausage. Nice beer selection. The King St Hefe had hints of honey. Went for Mother's Day for an 8pm reservation for 3. I 100% understand that the staff would be cleaning and finishing their shift at the time of our late reservation. This didn't bother us at all. What did bother us was our entrees- my bison sliders looked like a black hockey pucks- I hoped the outside was just blackened and hoped the inside was ok. No luck- the inside were so dry I had to drench it with ketchup, I only could get through a few bites of it before switching plates with my husband and picking off of it what I could. I say 'what I could' because my husbands steak was black and well done in a few areas but dripping with blood in other areas. It was as if someone cooking the meat forgot the meat and was not keeping track of it at the end of the night. Our mom had braised beef ribs with noodles (kind of a crockpot style meal)- and that was the only ok entree we got at our table. My husband and I have been wanting to try the rustic goat since we moved up here at the height of the pandemic, but unfortunately our experience has left us extremely disappointed. The price we paid was FAR off of the food quality we received. As I mentioned staff were working on the cleaning routine and closing up, which is the only reason we did not send our food back. We have all worked in the food industry and we value and respect our servers and know how important it is to get them to leave on time. Not to mention being Mother's Day, we didn't want to cost our servers time with their moms or children. We are on the fence about returning here. If we do try again, I will update our review to reflect any differences in our experience. read more

Also had a few bites of the pulled pork nachos, which were insanely good! As great as the food is, there is definitely something to be said for the service. Fried cauliflower bites are really good. Only disappointing thing, I used DoorDash to order and because the online menu was not accurate the BLT was replaced for a bacon burger which I didn't mind the bacon was cold and not rendered properly. I called to get it fixed and was told by a female manager that there was no way my bacon could be under cooked because it was brought in pre-cooked. She did offer to make it right next time I was in, I just forgot her name so I never pushed the issue. Have been back and will be back again. read more

This was my first visit to this restaurant. I would describe the ambiance as casual trendy. It is upscale without trying to hard. There is an interesting and diverse menu that would keep me coming back, if not just to try each and every item. On this visit, I ordered a half an order of the Rustic Goat Nachos! Thank goodness that I ordered half, because it was huge! It is one of those food choices that you can't stop yourself from eating more, even after you know you should. The combination of pulled pork, candied jalapenos and green chili sour cream was sensational! This was definitely the star of my meal. I also tried one of the Goat's unique pizza's. Half potato and leek, which I would rate as just ok and half, their special, apple and feta which in my opinion could have used more apple to create a more interesting flavor profile. All I could taste was feta cheese. If you want pizza I really don't think anything compares to the Moose's Tooth in Anchorage. This was just sub par. For desert I chose the PB&J Cheesecake and it was good, but I probably wouldn't order it again. I feel like if you splurge on desert it should knock your socks off and be worth it. The food is great, the beer is local, and the service is warm and friendly. Pro tip: Eat at or in the bar area. Wait times for the dining room are nuts even on weekdays. Pro tip: Show up late. Our party arrived, was seated before 3pm and was given brunch menus. We selected our meals and was told they were not serving brunch anymore and will have to pick another item. We were given the correct menus and had to re-pick an item. Noticed other tables were questioning the service as they were too waiting a long time for food or service. We placed our order and the waiter seemed to not care about customer service and the inconvenience caused by the wrong menus given to us. After our third water re-fill we looked at the time and we were there close to an hour and still no food. Daughter ordered beef sliders and once it arrived, she only received two(2) sliders which cost $18, what?! We have eaten here before but for some reason everything was a bad experience. The Goat is my neighborhood restaurant and I come here quite a bit. I have always had exceptional service and wonderful drinks and food. I eat all plant based and gluten free, so my options are usually limited. I can always count on the cauliflower dish (can't remember what it is called on the menu) and the hummus platter with corn chips to sub the bread. Trendy little spot in Anchorage. We stopped in late after a glacier cruise. The place was packed! Bar seating was first come first serve so we hung there at a high top. My husband and I tried this place for our first date night here in anchorage. We had reservations for 530pm, and called saying we would be late showing up at 540pm. No grief was given (Thursday night). Our server was jami. Her timing was impeccable. We didn't wait for food or service. The calamari was amazing. Not the typical fried crap at every other restaurant. I ordered the steak, medium. I returned it, not for how it was cooked, but the cut itself. It was absolutely cooked medium, just rough. Jami didn't flinch when I asked for a different plate. The chicken marsala was amazing. You may be asking yourself "why give five stars, when a plate was returned?" Because the steak was cooked accordingly and once returned they made it right. I would absolutely return. read more
