I have always seen rustic bakery's goods in Safeway here in San Francisco. So I was delighted to see that they actually had a café after coming back from a day on Angel Island. Everyone was very pleasant and the food was fresh and came out very fast. I had the tuna melt sandwich which was perfect because it was warmed up accompanied with a side salad. The tuna tasted fresh and wasn't full of mayo. The turkey sandwich and soup were also delish! I am not sure if they make the bread there but it sure taste like they do. Overall I was very happy with the experience and the cleanliness of the place, not sure if it was an off day but there were places to sit inside or out. While Rustic Bakery can't quite compete with Cibo's (now) mind-blowing pastries and world class lattes in nearby Sausalito - complete with gorgeous latte art, mind - we've always enjoyed the Larkspur location whenever we've found ourselves in that neighborhood. And as Tiburon has been (weirdly) sorely lacking any proper, cozy, truly quality cafes, RB's arrival in Tibs has been a very welcome thing indeed. So I'm sitting here tapping away on my phone while enjoying a pain au chocolat and a latte. But before I get to the food, let's address the first elements of any eating establishment: the decor, venue, and above all - let me repeat again: ABOVE ALL - the service. Decor/venue: Perfect. Absolutely ideal location in Tiburon Boardwalk shopping plaza with ample outdoor seating all around. Music sucks. Great selection of materials, love the vintage photos of Tibs and the surrounding areas. Service: ok so I know those of you who've read my other reviews already know where I'm going with this, but seriously, to the managers of Marin County restaurants and cafes: please step out of your insular little bubbles and travel just 300-500 mi south and study the customer service in cities and seaside towns between Santa Barbara and San Diego (yes, even LA and OC). Note the pleasant, friendly, laughing, conversational attitudes. Study, learn, replicate here. It's not pleasant to walk into a cafe first thing in the morning and be (not) greeted by a dour-faced, glum employee, who seems they'd rather be stapling papers at Kinkos while eating a spinach waffle and drinking cold pressed alligator poop than serving customers in a cafe. Right, now that's out of the way, we can finally get to the food: Pastries: although my wife said her first experience with a scone was sub-optimal - hard, dry, brittle - my chocolate croissant just now was pleasant enough; no complaints. Looking forward to trying the almond croissant next time and hope it's as amazing as the Larkspur branch. Still, I can't stop thinking of Cibo's astonishing selection of (daily changing, mind) pastries and cooked food, a veritable selection of ambrosia if ever I had any.... Coffee: so first things first. I quit daily coffee about four years ago and enjoy it now just occasionally, as a treat now and then. Rather like a coca-cola, say. So for me, the occasional coffee is a very special thing indeed. And sadly, I'm forced to (slightly) echo my wife's conclusion: while I didn't find it as burnt / bitter as she did several days ago, it was certainly nothing special, and in any event, nothing compared to the elixir served at Cibo. But, as a back-handed compliment, it was also sub-par compared to RB's own Larkspur branch where the coffee is truly exceptional (even if it does still fall slightly short of Cibo). Perhaps the staff here in Tibs are still learning the admittedly delicate art of latte creation? Conclusion: look, RB Tibs is a fine place. It really is. And in a county (Marin) which is sorely - and curiously - lacking in myriad cafes, including and especially those worth pleasant outdoor seating, we couldn't be happier to have it here. But please, just perfect your latte skills and have your service team brush up on their customer service skills: they should make me SMILE and be HAPPY when I order! I gave a higher rating than I wanted to because I feel that during covid places should be given a break. The good: the food was tasty and fresh, and the outdoor seating was nice white benches and tables. Bad: the service, the guy who took our order acted like he did not want to be there at all and did not hide it very well, made us feel uncomfortable. They were out of pastry by 12 , I guess because ppl buy them all in the morning? I'm not sure I dont go there often enough to know. But it was disappointing. They have us the wrong quiche , one with meat and I bit into it and I dont eat meat so that was annoying and I had to go back in a wait for vegetable one to be heated for me. Basically I have been there when it's been better but because pastry runs out so early I will probably go somewhere else next time so I can get everything I want at one place. read more

I thought I'd give Rustic another try, as I so want this place to be up to par. But, sadly, months later, they still don't want to have their acts together. Line of people waiting for their coffee drinks at 10:15 on a Saturday and Edwin, who seems to be the counter team leader, is taking selfies of himself with the rest of the counter staff. Meanwhile, the espresso machine is standing vacant idling by. Equator lattes are delicious, but life is too short to waste it patronizing establishments that persist in failing to respect the value of their customer's time. I think this will be my last visit. I echo other people's reviews--love the other locations but am sorely disappointed by how much time is wasted by the gossipy and clueless counter staff. Seriously, 4 people at the espresso machine standing around and watching/chatting while only 1 is actually working?! How about using the living wage that you build into the prices of your items to pay professionals who come to work to work and not to catch up on gossip and weekend party plans? When you remember that customers (who live here year-round) value their time, I'll consider coming back. Until then, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Cute sandwich and soup spot in the Boardwalk complex. Definitely on the pricier side of life, but you are paying for the food + the ambience. Everything is decorated in white to give a clean and crisp look and there are picnic tables for outside eating on a sunny day. The sandwiches can be quite small but extremely tasty! If you are truly hungry I highly recommend getting a sandwich and a cup of soup. read more

Never crowded, always clean, excellent service (Ari!!!) and very reasonably priced I've been here twice in the last year, the first was with a group of friends after being attracted like a moth to the "wine tasting" sign and my man Ari went above and beyond to make sure we were well taken care of with wine + cheese - the kind of hospitality you come to expect at a loving friends house... Not for obvious freeloaders. The second time was with my wife and daughter where we explored the menu a bit more - not only was Ari there to patiently walk us through everything, but the food was EXCELLENT. My family and I have been going to this location since they opened and while the service was always hit or miss, I found that I could use the app and order online. But over the last year or two we've noticed that the portions have gotten smaller while the prices have been creeping up. But today was the last straw. The chicken salad platter was less than a third of the size of what the salad originally was and the sandwiches all came on bread that's much smaller than what they used to use. Almost $15 for an appetizer-sized salad is ridiculous and I'm sorry to say they've lost us as customers. After many years living in Tiburon, I finally decided on Lunch at Rustic Bakery. I ordered the daily special asparagus soup and a turkey sandwich. The only thing that was reminiscent of asparagus in this soup is that it was green. The turkey sandwich was a very few slices of turkey with a single leaf of wilted and black-spotted lettuce. Nothing else- not even mayo. The young man at the counter was unpleasant and hard to understand through his mask. And the PRICE for this mess was outrageous ! My luncheon companion fared no better. I NEVER write negative reviews of restaurants- but this was one of my worst restaurant experiences ever. read more

When you walk into this place, you think, "clean" and "yummy" and wow. I really like their coffee, pastries, and breakfast. So far, I've been here about 10 times. Always breakfast, so I'm going to focus on that. Their croissants are delicious. I'm really fond of their strata, an egg dish that is filling and tasty. Their coffee is strong, and has flavor. I'm a big fan. And the people that work there all seem to be friendly, happy, and helpful. Nice. Really nice. Rustic Bakery is the kind of place you are happy to go back to. I can't think of anything wrong with it. I don't know if it gets crowded (or too crowded), since I tend to go here right when it opens. I wish I went here on our first day in Tiburon, their pastries are delicious!! I had a cheddar scallion scone, it was not overwhelming with cheddar flavor, a very balanced scone that reminds me of homemade cheddar biscuits. My kids got a ham and cheese croissant and strawberry scone. The ham and cheese croissant was full of ham, and very satisfying. The strawberry croissant was good, but could use a little reworking, my son didn't like that the berries sank to the bottom. Overall, everything was delicious and I will be making a return trip to try some of the other goodies. read more

Ever since Rustic was bought out by a private equity company, literally everything about this place has gone down in quality. This location has had problems with unfriendly staff for years, but it's nearly impossible to get even the bare minimum of service now. The portions are so small, I guarantee you will leave feeling hungry or unsatisfied (or both). Just to give warning, you can Expect to pay $25-30 for a drink and sand which (a little chuck of bread that has a few slices of meat, a tiny slice of cheese and a sprinkling of baby greens) and you will wait at least 10 minutes for your drink to be made. don't ask for anything extra, take too long, ask too many questions or complain about anything. You will be met with excuses and attitude. Barista's fail to remember that tipping is not an obligation. Tipping is given for good or exceptional customer service, and a good experience. I've worked all my life in the service industry, and I find that I no longer wrestle with the guilt of not tipping when I go to rustic bakery. I'm not going to pay extra to be treated poorly and get mediocre Food. Every time I get food there, I say, I'm never going to go back, and then I feel bad and feel like I need to give them another try, but it's always the same thing. Today I went in for a cookie. It was literally half the size that they normally are, and they are the flattest thinnest cookies you've ever seen in your life to begin with. BUT, It was the last one, so if I was going to have a cookie, that was my choice. The subpar, half sized, nearly burnt cookie for $3.25 handed to me with attitude. The pastries are still good. The bread is still fine. Go there if you have money to burn and aren't actually hungry. read more

If they could run this operation half as well they do at the country mart, they'd probably double their business. The staff is so poorly trained that you often find 4-5 people standing around with a line of people looking to order and dirty tables abound. The food is inconsistent at this location as are the drinks. I don't think many of the staff have been properly trained to deal with customers and simple things like ordering and getting food walked to tables somehow is a challenge. The staff seems pretty social amongst themselves at the expense of the customer experience. The mart location has nailed it on the other hand. I'm afraid that this location will continue to struggle until they get the service right since the consensus is forming in the community about this store location. Also, the plastic cups and paper products for dine in is a real bummer from a trash and waste perspective. Hoping they can turn it around ... Update -- it would be great if this location would answer the phone during business hours to place take out orders! 11am on a Saturday and have tried multiple times. I've been a fan of Rustic Bakery for many years and was really happy to hear that they'd opened a location in Tiburon. Unfortunately, of the 4 locations, this one is my least favourite. It's near Woodlands, which is convenient, but the indoor and outdoor seating area lack any character or flow. My go-to drink at Rustic is their homemade fizzy Limeade, so that was the first thing I ordered at Tiburon. So disappointing! It was basically a hint of lime, sugar and flat water. The pastries looked uninspiring and not well displayed - so I passed. I'll give this location another go. Hopefully I'll have a better experience. read more

The first week of opening, everyone should get a hall pass, but at this point, things should have been fixed, and I have stopped going entirely now after 8 visits. I LOVE Rustic Bakery, and was so excited that they were coming to Tiburon! No store should run this poorly though, and it seems as though there is no management. It feels like a frat party behind the counter where the very young staff will gossip about their weekends and parties while checking their cell phones while you wait forever. You wait in line for eternity, and then wait for so long for the food to come out. My order has been lost or messed up repeatedly, and they are too busy joking around to notice or care. The portions are smaller and not nearly what the other stores are. This is an amazing company with the best food around! However, I have now seen so many people leave unhappily, and sadly, I am leaving now too. There is great potential though - just run them like the other incredible stores, and bring in some management and professionals to this location. I went in to Rustic Bakery this afternoon for a late lunch. I looked at the sign on the door and it said "open". I asked my friend to go in and order first because I had my 2 small dogs with me and couldn't take them inside. When I went in to order, there was one young woman with her baby, ahead of me in line. The young wonen at the cash register was pleasant enough, but then this older blonde woman with a ponytail came barging over, yelling about the grill being closed. She was trying to rush me by being aggressive. She was clearly a bully but seemed to be in charge. After a few minutes of trying to figure out, what was still available to order while this woman was being so rude, I just said forget it, why would I give my money to such a badly run establishment.
