I'm not a local, so I cannot say anything about how this place used to be, but I don't understand why the ratings are so low. I understand the prices are a little steep for sandwiches and the such, but I had no severe qualms with anything I ordered. We split an almond croissant and avocado toast, then ordered cortados and a hot chocolate. The avocado toast was definitely steeply priced, but that's all avocado toast if I'm being honest. It was just okay. The almond croissant was delicious! It was delightful when warmed up, and flaky and filled with really delicious almond creme. The hot chocolate was some quality hot chocolate for sure. Really rich cocoa, not saccharine. The cortados were made well, and when one of us found it a little too cold for their liking, the barista graciously remade it even though they were fine with him just warming it up. +10 for great service. I enjoyed sitting in the cafe, the white accents were very appealing and there was nice music playing, along with people working or chatting. I've tried to love RB but the employees are not trained at all. I asked for a Cappuccino- I got a double espresso in a slightly larger cup with some foam. No milk. I asked the woman if it had milk and she added some steamed milk to it. This was just one of many slip ups Over many months of trying. After Oscar left, it went downhill fast. I've put off this review for a couple years as I want to be supportive of my town's local businesses... but unfortunately despite numerous visits (I try to go every couple months at least to give it another chance), I've just been pretty disappointed with this Rustic Bakery. After being wowed by the Rustic Bakery in Larkspur, we were so excited to learn Rustic Bakery was coming to Tiburon to add some much needed culinary pizzazz. We were literally counting down the days until the opening day! Unfortunately, Tiburon's Rustic Bakery is extremely underwhelming despite the strength of its commercial products and, well, basically every other Marin location. I don't really understand how it could be possible but the food quality really doesn't seem to compare to the breakfast items and lunch sandwiches I have tried at the Larkspur location. Some menu offerings also are limited relative to the other locations, and with each subsequent visit there seems to be less and less on the menu boards and even less freshly made items in the glass cases. I came in at 8am just this past weekend, just a hour after they opened, and they did not have any ready made baguette sandwiches left. There wasn't really anything in the case at all besides bottled beverages, and even the pastry section seemed to have halved from the last time I visited maybe 3 months previous. Service is also lacking -- yes while all the staff is super friendly, there just general confusion about who does what. I thought it was just teething issues with new staff when the restaurant first opened, but the service continues to be painfully slow and uncoordinated after years of operation. At least twice I have gone in and despite being the only customer and there being several staff members around, it still would take maybe 5 minutes before someone would come to take my order. The ambiance and decor and seating though is all lovely... and I do love Rustic Bakery crackers! However admittedly I'd much rather pick up a box from Woodlands grocery store next door (which is also where I prefer to get my morning pastries and coffee)! read more

I honestly don't know which is worse, between this location and Magnolia. Depends on whether you want an attitude with your order (Magnolia) or a completely screwed up order and long wait (Tiburon). Gorgeous shop with so many tempting choices I want to eat here everyday until I try them all. All the pastries are large and shareable or you can order from the menu. I had the avocado toast with egg and the avocado was fresh mashed. My egg was a just barely hard boiled perfection. The staff was kind and helpful with all my questions. read more

Tucked into a strip mall, this clean, bright cafe has a "local favorite" vibe. The steel cut oats are the best I've ever had. So creamy, with a perfect garnish of sour cherry compote. My only complaint is that my London Fog was served all London, no fog. When I pointed this out, the server brought it back to the barista and returned with an ordinary Earl Grey with milk. If this tea has vanilla in it, I can't taste it. Sipping my tea at the cafe window, watching the Tiburon fog roll gently over palm and fir trees, I guess I don't mind. read more

I would not recommend this place to anyone, save your money and go down the street. I was looking for a nice coffee shop to do work in. The interior is bright and the place has the sounds and smells of any other coffee shop. I went in and found a table to sit at; since the line was very long, as I was getting settled and pulling out my laptop to start my work... I noticed that the employees were giving me dirty looks, especially the cashier. I could sense something was off, I just kept sitting and doing my work as I waited for line to get shorter. Out of no where, the cashier approaches me and says "you're not allowed to sit here, the table is for customers only, you have not ordered anything from us" I immediately felt so unwelcomed from this coffee shop that is suppose to be this social/gathering place for the people of Tiburon. I was also caught off guard since at any other coffee shop, I notice people just walk in and sit there without anyone saying anything. Yet here I am getting dismissed. I ordered a sandwich online since the line was still pretty long. The fact that it was assumed that I wasn't a customer just because I didn't stand in line and order from the cashier. read more

I decided to get takeout from this place as I remember I ordered takeout during my stay at Napa. I ordered the Avocado Toast and it was pretty good mostly. The Avocado Toast did not taste as good as last time I got it here, which was a year ago. I still think this place is good, but it does need some improvement before I can rate it 5 stars. read more

The first time I came here they got my order wrong. I ordered a tuna melt and got a tuna sandwich on focaccia. I realized after I had eaten a few bites and it was so good I didn't care (and came back again). So today I ordered a tuna melt on whole wheat and they got it right! Good as well, but definitely would try it on their delicious focaccia. The grilled cheese on pan de mie (white sliced bread) is amazing. I've ordered it twice now for my kids and if I sneak a taste I immediately pray for them to want to trade me. Delicious pastries and cookies. But as a foodie millennial, it's just decent. Priced appropriately for the area but still high. Quiche crust was passable at best, pastries were nothing special, and coffee was dark, poorly prepared by the barista, and very bitter/bad. That might be how your grandfather likes his coffee, but it was an overall subpar experience. But I have a feeling their target market is the 50+ crowd. For them, maybe it's a five star experience. Rustic Bakery has always been one of my favorite breakfast, brunch, pastry shops when I am in Tiburon. I love all of their pastries and sandwiches. Today they went above and beyond. I placed an order to be delivered by a third party service to a nearby business. I called in the morning to replace coffee for tea, since there wasn't an option for tea on line. Oscar answered the phone and was so helpful and accommodating. He offered cream and honey which I did not think of. It was so thoughtful of him. Later, I got a phone call from Oscar letting me know that my recipient did not receive the order. I'm not sure why, since the delivery person called me to confirm the business. Oscar was so kind to prepared another order and delivered it himself. It is so rare to find a business and an employee (assistant manager) who go out of his way to take care of a customer. Unsure why there are such low ratings for Rustic Bakery as it's a cute little bakery/cafe serving up some great offerings. Seriously, it has a cool aesthetic, the staff is friendly and the assortment of pastries and menu items is really great! Honestly, it reminds me of something you'd find in Europe, not the states. With premade sandwiches on small baguettes, flaky croissants and a pretty extensive menu, you'll be able to find something that fits your fancy. In a recent visit, I opted for a black coffee and the salami sandwich because I was feeling super euro and they were both great. My only complaint is the brand of coffee Rustic has partnered with, Equator. Sure it's a local company but the beans are always over roasted and the coffee is so darn dark. I'd love it if they had a medium roast from someone like sightglass or even blue bottle. Oh well. It's a great little spot in a cool complex. The service was horrible and the staff quite rude and condescending to me as well as other customers. They are edgy. Also, it was a chilly day and the heat wasn't on- all of the staff were dressed for the slopes! This isn't the first time I have had a bad experience here. I don't understand why this particular location has been so poorly managed compared to the Larkspur store but there are plenty of other choices for similar fare in Tiburon where the staff is nice. We hit Rustic in Tiburon at 2:30pm. Two young men (teens) working the register and one playing with his hair, and playing with his hair....Watched him for 15 minutes. YUCK. Asked for 3 Asian chicken salads with the dressing on the side. Oh, they all come with dressing on the side. Get to the pickup counter and a woman calls my name and I decide to check the order. She doesn't seem to worry saying yes it's all there. Dressing on the sides. Get home.......NO DRESSING ON THE SIDE. How stupid can someone be? No hair nets or hair pulled back. The chef who DIDN'T put the dressing on the side had a hair net on. One star for that. Irks me so much that now for dinner we will have a soggy salads for 3 people. I've tried to love this place so much as it's located across my home, it's convenient, and there are very few other places to get breakfasts & brunches. Since they opened up I've gone at least once a week and been disappointed every time but today was the day I decided I will not set foot in there again. Not that the portions are getting smaller but they keep saying that they ran out of what I like to order by 10:30am almost every time. Today like other times, I asked for the oatmeal, they were out. Then breakfast burrito, they were out. What about quiche, there were out of that too. What about plain croissant with jam? They said they were out of jam also! When I called to see the manager, she said sorry we ran out and you should place online orders early in the morning next time! Bakery that runs out or everything, every time for years? She then said we don't serve breakfast after 10:00. I asked her for years you keep saying you ran out, why don't you say you don't serve breakfast at your bakery after 10:00?!?! Quiches and burritos are not necessary breakfast items! Then she said I can give you jam!!!! It's always a very stressful experience to be there with my guests and family. Tiburon is SO lucky to have Rustic Bakery in the Boardwalk Shopping Mall. It's really help rejuvenate this sleepy town center. If you've never visited Rustic Bakery's other Marin locations, you are certainly missing out. On a daily basis, they're pumping out some of the best salads, sandwiches, and sweet treats in town. They're very committed to using local purveyors. The atmosphere is vibrant and unpretentious. The service is always quick and top-notch. Plus, this location also sells wine! I recently had the pleasure of attending their Holiday Bazaar where they have several wineries and food vendors sampling products + a live jazz band. It was so delightful! I wound up purchasing some sparking rose while i was there and a few goodies from the bakery. I just think it's so cool that they offer such a family/dog-friendly event to the community. Seriously so yummy!!! So glad i ignored the negative Yelp reviews and just went for it!! We ordered in the car on our way over to the ferry. Picked up our order sbd headed to the boat. Friendly service. Everything we tried was super delicious. High quality food for sure!! I had the quinoa super foods salad with chicken. So good! My hubby had the tuna sandwich. He liked it a lot. My teenager had the avocado and chicken salad (my son liked it, but didn't finish it, and I wasn't hungry any more, but couldn't let any of it go to waste. It was insanely good.) My other son had the roast beef sandwich. We subbed cheddar for the blue cheese and it was excellent. Like seriously good roast beef and cheddar sandwich. I'm so happy to be updating this review. Over the past year the service at this location has continually improved so much so that I've been coming back more and more regularly. The phone is now answered, cashiers are courteous and I leave feeling valued even if I'm just picking up a to go order. Ari, the manager, goes out of his way to delight customers. Wow. So underwhelming. Is it too much to ask for a decent third wave coffee place in Tiburon? The Element, which for a far too brief period of time at same location,was awesome. I was hoping that Rustic would at least match up to their Larkspur landing location, which is pretty decent. Come on folks, get it together. You buy Equator coffee, yet have so called baristas who don't know micro foam from microwaves or third wave coffee from third base. You know what the problem is other than lack of training? You hire (and I seriously don't mean this to be xenophobic or racist) immigrants and high school kids because they are obviously cheap hires and vulnerable as working people struggling to make ends meet.
