Mimicking another reviewer's 1-star review from a year ago, today's male server had no time for my party of 5 celebrating my sister's wedding. I'd use a name if it was stated, but there was no intro or cordial greeting by this employee. This was even our second visit to the restaurant since we thought highly of our first experience just a few days prior. That being said, this was the easiest way to spend over $100 in an hour. By the way, 20% gratuity is automatically added for all orders regardless of party size, but it only seems to remove any incentive for good service. We only intended to order one round of drinks each and an order of wings while seated at the closest table to the front, but the service was so slow there were multiple times our whole table had to flag the server down to get the first order in. It wasn't that busy around 6pm, and halfway through finally taking our order, he left the table without clearly saying anything to serve another party who had already been there - just bizarre. After everything was served, we didn't get the right number of plates and got no utensils so we had to flag him down again. When he was nowhere to be seen, we had to resort to asking the kind hostess for utensils. Subsequent check-ins were curt and if we didn't rush to answer then he'd turn around distractedly before we got a chance to finish our sentence. Besides the lack of service, most of the drinks and food were fine, although the Red Wedding barely had any mezcal included and the cocktails mainly consisted of ice. Wings were fine but not as good as the first time. The atmosphere of the whole place has chill oldies music and lots of Caribbean references to set the scene, so that's what we focused on enjoying. Maybe this was just an off evening for the Rumba as a whole, but we will not be coming back as long as anyone working for minimum 20% tips are still on 'island time'. read more

First drinks review !! Popped into Rumba on the edge of Capitol Hill on a late Thurs night . The location offers a snug ambience, is adorned with antique furniture, and boasts surf-bar themed decor . We first ordered a round of solo drinks on our own before delving into their recommended classic rum flights . Since we weren't rum connoisseurs, we decided to learn a lil from rum flight 101 . Pina Colada - cold & refreshing, my go-to, creamy, sweetness & alcohol well-balanced Rum Flight 101 - 3/4 oz pours of 4 rums: Appleton Reserve (Jamaica), Barrilito 3 Star (Puerto Rico), Plantation 5 Year (Barbados), Clément VSOP (Martinique); all very strong, favorite was the Appleton Reserve with a strong caramel sweetness and notes of baking spice While I may not be the most ardent enthusiast of rum, I still enjoyed the bartender's detailed explanation of the various rum flavors . She explained the rum origins & lightness differences and patiently answered all of our questions. They sure have an impressive selection of rums to choose from, just check out their wall ! Fun tropical themed cocktail bar! I came here with a group of friends and we were able to make a reservation in advance. They had very interesting cocktails! I got the midnight snack which had peanut butter infused tequila and berries. I highly recommend this drink. We also did a rum flight which was super interesting. I was able to taste different rums which I've never done before. We also got some food which was good. The Cuban sandwich and the Jamaican beef empanada were okay but the star was the plantain chips and guac. We ended up getting 2 orders! read more

First visit to Rumba and will definitely be back! Came in Friday night before seeing a show at the Paramount and wasn't disappointed. Super loud but I don't mind that. Great selection of food without being too much. Service is quick as is the kitchen. It was all so good that I just kept ordering more and more! First time visiting Seattle and this was walking distance and thought we'd pop in. It was a Monday so the speakeasy was closed. But still enjoyed our time without a reservation walked in and sat immediately. The host was friendly and also took our orders which was simple enough. The ambiance was fun and pirates decor was cool. It was guest bartender night and they gave her a round of applause which was kinda cool. We tried 2 drinks the Puerto Rican Pina colada and the Surf School Swizzle both were very good and very strong. They say "Rum forward" for a reason. Found this place around 10 pm on a Tuesday. It has an island vibe. We started out with the tropical guacamole with plantain chips. We also got the Rumba burger and a brisket taco and a shrimp taco. The brisket taco was delicious. The meat just melted in your mouth. The shrimp taco had an interesting flavor but the spicy chili sauce saved the day. My husband got the burger and it was big. The flavor on the meat (yes, I tasted it) was ingrained all the way through the meat, it was as tasty. I am not an eater of hamburger so that is saying something. This place is wonderful. A real hidden gem if you ask me. After seeing a show in the neighborhood, a friend and I stopped here for a bite to eat. Sam was our server and he was very friendly, informative, and attentive. I ordered the guac, an empanada, and a taco (I was in a peck ish mood). Everything we ordered was really flavorful, savory, and so very satisfying. I certainly would order more than one empanada next time around. You can expect to find the restaurant decor eclectic, clean, and inviting. There are a decent number of tables given this place looks super tiny from outside. I took note of several larger parties of 6 or more so keep that in mind if you're looking for a fun place that can accommodate a bigger group; I would just recommend calling ahead. On the one hand, I wanted to enjoy rum drinks at a rum bar but on the other hand I have a really hard time turning down smokey cocktails. My desire for smokey drinks won out and I got The Smokin' Room. Definitely has a smokey taste to it! But you can taste the amaro and bitters too. I really liked Inside Passage for it's creativity but I think Rumba has the better drinks and I would love to spend another evening here sometime exploring more of their cocktails and diving into their rum selection. Easily one of my favorite bars in Seattle -- the vibes are immaculate and, as the name implies, Rumba serves up lots of great rum drinks. Never been to a rum bar. Usually when I think of rum, I think of rum and Coke. Not here! They do delicious craft rum cocktails. After landing in Seattle and trying to look for a place to drink that was open past 9pm (due to Covid), we stumble upon Rumba. It was busy. We sat at the bar and got to enjoy normalization. We got the rum daiquiri, lychee thieves, rum mai tai and rum old fashion. It all tasted very good. Very Smokey. The cocktails were too sweet or sour, perfect balance.
