I personally do not understand the mass appeal of this restaurant, however I will say that the Egg's Benedict selection was impressive and delicious. This place made the list based on reviews, I didn't realize there were 6 or more locations to visit. The 200 location on Magazine was super busy so we mosey'd on down to the 2800 Magazine location. Traffic was light when we arrived around 10:20am. We were sat immediately and Harper joined us shortly after to introduce herself and go over the menu with us. Let me first say this, Harper's Service was beyond perfect. Quick. Polite. Knowledgeable. Did I mention fast? We started with the fried green tomatoes and the French toast bites. 10/10 for myself and my mother. 8/10 on the fried green tomato for my wife. (She wasn't a fan of the sauce but that's a personal preference. I had the shrimp and grits, wife had the trifecta, mom had the the peacemaker w/ eggs Cochon and the corn beef. We all finished our plates, minus me but only because I was full. This place is fantastic and if you get the opportunity you should definitely swing in. Pretty sure this place is heaven. read more

I have been to this location before on a few sundays, the wait is always long but definitely worth it. I decided this time to stop in durning the week and I am so happy I did. The staff is super friendly atmosphere is very welcoming, most of all the bartender was AMAZING! Dom was very friendly and knowledgeable he was not overwhelming but definitely very attentive. Stopped by in here before strolling around the Garden District fo see mansions. In contrast from their French Quarter location, this one is much less busy and we got seated very quickly for Sunday brunch at 12pm. The shrimp & grits were fantastic and the biscuits that came with them were fluffy and baked to perfection. The iced coffee here is sourced from French Truck cafe which is smooth and strong. We had our meal delivered. Four breakfast sandwiches with grits and extra cheese all piping hot. The cheese grits comes with a slice of cheese on top. Although I would prefer it mixed, they were still tasty. The potatoes and sausage looks delicious too. read more

Lots of food, fresh food, well cooked food. The only reason I don't give it five stars is I am not fond of French Truck coffee which is a personal choice. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the coffee but it is too bitter for me. I live closer to the location on magazine street, but always travel to the one on S. Broad. I've been a ruby slipper diner since they opened and things have only gotten better over the years. I love the beautiful walls at the S. Broad location too. My favorite meal is the three little pigs omelette. But I have had the waffles, the burgers, and I can't resist the southern fried BLT with the fried green tomatoes at lunch. Sometimes you have to wait a long time in line, go inside, get a cocktail or bring a book, it's worth it. read more

As a California girl, I think the flavors might have just been a little too strong for me, but still a great spot to stop by.

It appears that during busy times they allow you to sit first and order from the QR at your table, this is an assumption given the code to order at the table, but the sign at the entry directed folks to the counter to order before sitting. For breakfast, we got the breakfast biscuit which came with eggs, bacon and cheese, and sided it with grits. The breakfast sandwich was solid, eggs were a bit soft and grits were more mealy than we are used to, but I think that may be authenticity of the area more than anything. I opted for the three option omelet with onion, sausage and gouda plus a side of sausage links. The omelet, though odd sounding combination turned out to be solid. Maybe it was my options, but it was decently "one note" in flavor. I tossed a little hot sauce on and that helped. However, while the sausage links were not much to look at, they were tasty, with a nice snap to the casing and meaty inside. To go with our breakfast, I got a cold brew with a splash of almond milk while my partner embraced NOLA and started his day with a bourbon sour. Both of us enjoyed our choices! Longer: So I was a little hesitant to go to CDM, because it's such the tourist stop and the first joint anyone mentions when they say "beignet". But this was our first stop, morning of first day. The beignets are piled in sugar, they are warm, crunchy and crisp on the outside and soft, warm and delicate inside. I gotta tell you, the texture is just a little different than Cafe Beignet, the Four Seasons, and even the other CDM in the park we tried a few days later. To me, this is the best one. Now, as a coffee person, their black coffee is strong, rich, and a good compliment to the real show - the beignets. But I did not pick up on nearly as much chicory in their chicory coffee as, say, Cafe Beignet's version. Also, I have to let you know the other location in the big park serves a non-chicory version (in addition to NOLA chicory) that is head and shoulders the best coffee we had in New Orleans. But this is the joint. As a bonus, it's colorful, has consistently great street musicians, and has lots of walkable sites as you struggle to waddle around after too many beignets. Gotta go!

I am extremely disappointed to have to write this review as a longtime patron of the Ruby Slipper. However, my experience today (3/18) at brunch was deeply upsetting. I have celiac disease, and upon arrival, I immediately informed the waitstaff of my dietary restriction. They provided me with their allergy menu, allowing me to make an informed decision about my meal. I ordered the migas and specifically reminded the server to mark my order as gluten-free. She confirmed this and even noted "no tortillas" on my order, as they are the source of gluten contamination. When my meal arrived, everything appeared fine. However, about halfway through eating, I discovered a fried tortilla mixed into my eggs--at which point I knew I had been glutened. Shortly after, I started experiencing symptoms and had to rush to the restroom. While I was in the restroom, the rest of my party unknowingly asked for the check. When I returned, I informed the server that I had found not one but two tortillas in my meal and was already experiencing a reaction. I wasn't looking for compensation; I simply wanted to inform her so that this mistake wouldn't happen to someone else with a gluten sensitivity. I fully understand that cross-contamination can happen, but this was not cross-contamination--this was direct contamination. Unfortunately, her response was dismissive. She told me that I should have informed her earlier. I then pointed out that my allergy had been clearly noted on the order and that the food runner had even reassured me that the migas were gluten-free. She continued to insist that I should have said something before she printed the check, but my party defended me, explaining that they had asked for the check and boxes while I was in the restroom, unaware of what had happened. I left feeling incredibly disappointed--not just because of the mistake, but because of how the situation was handled. As someone with celiac disease, I rely on restaurants to take food allergies seriously, and I was deeply let down by both the kitchen's mistake and the server's response. I truly hope that Ruby Slipper improves its handling of food allergies in the future to prevent others from experiencing what I did today. read more

While visiting New Orleans, we stopped by around 10 AM to put our names down for a party of 7. Big mistake, and we knew it. The host was so understanding and explained that it'd be about 2 hours and offered to split us into a table of 3 and 4, possibly near each other, since that division may allow us to be seated in 30-45 mins. We politely declined. We had some cocktails at the bar - the Ruby Slipper ($10, orange pomegranate mimosa) tasted more like a standard mimosa but still delicious - and waited. The bartender was also notably friendly and patient. After we learned that half our party went to the wrong Ruby Slipper and would be late, we told the host we'll take the two tables. They were so accommodating, and about 1.5 hours after arriving, we were seated. Three of the four of us opted for the Costa Rican ($12), which was quite satisfying. I didn't realize the crispy plantains were chips as opposed to fried plantains, but I was pleased with the half an avocado on each plate. In a mix of starvation and delicious food, we all licked our plates clean. Also, as someone who requires no less than 3-4 cups of coffee in the morning to get my day started, our waitress was very attentive and generously refilled our waters and coffees throughout the meal. Our friends for the other table arrived, and I tried the Salmon Benedict, which was rich and flavorful - definitely not a bad option. It was not crowded at this time. The waitress was pleasant. When she came to take our order, I told her I had trouble deciding because there were so many items on the menu that sounded delicious. She tried to help me decide which item to order. I ordered the Florentine Omelet and it was delicious! Melt in your mouth delicious! Someone else had ordered the Southern Breakfast and he said it was delicious, too. He sampled a bite of my Florentine Omelet and said it tasted really good. The prices seem reasonable. This was one of my favorite things about visiting New Orleans, my seat mate on flight in told me to go to Ruby Slippers so we went in for brunch the first morning in town, had the sweetest and downright cute waitress named Aurryana who suggested some amazing things I would have not tried. There were just 2 of us but we ordered food for 4-6 and everything was so very delicious! The iced coffee was so good I crave it a week later! The apple pie beignets were out of this world! Loved the menu where you can order 3 different eggs Benny and every single one was so good I couldn't choose a favorite. We ended up going back the next day and had a different waitress who was also so good but my heart belonged to Aurryana. The chefs put so much love into the food, the bartenders and baristas make the drinks with love, and the employees were all so friendly and kind! I'll always remember my NOLA trip and think fondly about the yummy food at ruby slippers, I can't wait to go back! I typically never write reviews, but this was SO good I had to! My husband and I were greeted by a wonderful host who was very helpful in assisting us in understanding the waitlist. We sat after 30 minutes of waiting, but it was well worth it! Our waitress, Izzy, was so joyful and enthusiastic! She was inventive to our LOADS of questions and answered them patiently and with great responses, unlike some of the other servers at establishments, we have been to. She told me to get the Peacemaker with the Crawfish and Grit cake, and the Chicken St. Charles, and man was she right! My husband is a big guy, so he got the Trifecta which was awesome!! Also, we are typically not day drinkers, but Izzy hyped us up so much, and we both ended up down 4 drinks by the end of the meal. Those two ladies did it all: took orders, rang up customers, served, made coffee, tended the guests, refilled water -- everything. Wow! Great employees at this bustling, lovely cafe. I loved everything about the Silver Whistle Cafe: the picture window facing St. Charles Street, the peacock feathers in a vase, the Cuban coffee, the creamy stone ground grits served in a jar with eggs and cheese, the butter and jam served with a chocolate croissant. We breakfasted here on our last day of a six-day trip to Louisiana, Mississipi, and Alabama, and Silver Whistle Cafe wins for best breakfast, hands down.

Food: The people I was with ordered the lamb chops, steak frittes, chicken salad dish, roasted chicken, and a different sandwich dish and we all loved it!! Services: The place is an intimate restaurant, so I highly recommend making a reservation. But despite the close quarters, every person that worked there was so kind and helpful! Pricing was fair (not overly expensive, not a great deal) Unfortunately the service was poor, with curt and unfriendly staff, taking a 4-Star experience down to a 2-star. With other coffee/breakfast spots competing amongst a struggling hospitality industry in this great city, I cannot recommend.
