I was looking for a breakfast spot and walked into this place. Looks like the Ruby Slipper is a chain. I saw a handful of them within a couple blocks. I didn't like the seating at the one closest to the hotel, but this one wasn't that much further, in terms of walking distance. They offer seating both inside and outdoors. There's counter seating in the center with tables surrounding it. The place was crowded, but I still found a table off to the side to the left. I could see the small kitchen in the back from where I was seated. This place is popular. I ordered the Truck Latte ($5) and Mota's that started out at $12.75, but ended up costing $2 more because every additional recommendation David G made cost $1 (Add Coubion, $1 + Add Pico De Gallo, $1), which is what I noticed about New Orleans. My food and drink tasted fine. I probably didn't really need all the extras. He did offer to fill my latte cup with coffee, but I didn't take him up on that offer because that sort of defeats the purpose of ordering a latte. Service was overall friendly and efficient. Ruby Slipper is this fun, chaotic cafe that offers a very unique take on NOLA cuisine. Located just off of Canal Street, this establishment is very easy to find. Once inside, you will see a spacious environment with tables all over the place, plus a nice central counter space. What they offer is their own brand of Americana. There are really a lot of choices on their menu and all of them are very well prepared and tasty. The have food to fulfill all palettes and dietary desires. One of the fun things about this cafe is their staff. From my experience, they are all super high energy and really take care of their customers. The one thing I will say, again from my experience(s), is that they are all a bit of an up-seller. For example, when you are ordering, whatever it is you want from their menu, they will suggest something like putting avocado on it. "That's how I like it," they will say. Or, they may suggest something else. The one thing that they do not tell you is that every addition, no matter how small, will cost you. So, just keep that in mind as you meal may end up costing you more than expected. This is a very popular restaurant. With this, sometimes the staff can be stretched a little thin. Went for the hype at Ruby Slipper Cafe and unfortunately... it just wasn't it for me. Used the app for reservations which at least helped put us on the waitlist, but there wasn't really an option for indoor vs outdoor seating and we ended up inside. Since it's such a popular spot, service was definitely slow. We were seated sandwiched between two other couples and overheard how delayed orders were, so we decided to order everything all at once. We got the fried green tomatoes, mimosa flight, cappuccino, and a boozy iced coffee. The mimosa flight was actually a LOT, and because it took so long for the server to come back around, I had to slow down my drinking just to pace myself with the food coming out. For food, I had the trifecta of bennies -- and I think we also got an omelet. I didn't even finish the trifecta, but to be fair, it's a LOT of food. The seafood bennie just wasn't giving what I hoped for. I've had some amazing crab cake bennies from smaller mom-and-pop spots, so I know how good they can be, but this one just missed the mark for me. The breaded chicken bennie was actually pretty good though, and the pulled pork/beef one wasn't bad either. The fried green tomatoes caught me off guard because they had a sweeter sauce or jam on them -- not what I expected, so I'd personally pass next time. It was PACKED, but the vibe was nice and they gave all the moms a sweet little card and a carnation, which was a thoughtful touch. This was one of my favorite breakfast spots in New Orleans! I got the cinnamon roll pancakes, an order of home fries, a glass of apple juice, and a buttermilk biscuit. The cinnamon roll pancakes had crispy edges, which I love in a pancake, and they were flavorful. The icing tasted homemade, too. The biscuit was buttery with a nice crunch on the outside. The home fries were a major miss for me, as they were hard and definitely needed to be cooked a little longer. They were able to accommodate a group of 10 with only a 30 minute wait and got the food out pretty quick. The food was very good for being a large popular chain. The first trip I got the chicken st Charles, which was basically a chicken and waffle benny, and the eggs cochon with the apple braised pork! Sooooo good!! The eggs cochon shined like a constellation mapping the food gods and pointing to right here at this point on the planet!! Second visit I did the same thing but this time got eggs cochon AGAIN!! Since it was amazing but the second one I got the Bayou shrimp! Oh man, it drooling just thinking about it! Both were so much fire!! I couldn't even stop the happy dance I was doing in my seat! The Trifecta comes with three different specialty Eggs Benedict: Cochon, Chicken St. Charles and Bayou Shrimp. The Bayou Shrimp Bennie features Gulf shrimp sautéed with pork tasso and Creole tomato sauce served over a poached egg, fried green tomatoes and a buttermilk biscuit. The flavors were vibrant and the fried green tomato was a brillant idea in my opinion. The Cochon Bennie had shredded tender pork over a buttermilk biscuit and topped with a poached eggs and finished with hollandaise. The pork was incredibly tender. Last but certainly not least was the Chicken St. Charles. It's a fried chicken breast served over a buttermilk biscuit topped with a poached egg finished with a pork tasso cream sauce.
