Went for lunch on a Saturday when it rained and it was a bit disappointing. We had reservations for the courtyard but it rained so obviously we got moved inside. We were sat at the bar which was fine by me but other groups crowded around while waiting for tables and we didn't really receive normal service there. We got our meals but never had drinks or water refills or any other attention. The food was just fine. Inside was cute but I think with the main draw being the courtyard maybe we would've been better off elsewhere.

Nice glass of wine or iced latte? Tough decision, but today the latte won.

Cafe Amelie is very popular with its charming courtyard, and also a beautiful interior, although it can get loud inside. Reservations are available 60 days in advance, and we booked exactly 60 days out and were grateful to have a lovely table in the courtyard on a perfect Sunday morning on the last day of Jazzfest. My husband got the breakfast sandwich, served on a croissant, which was delicious. I had the Couchon de Lait pork sandwich with side salad. I know it's very popular, but it was too salty and heavy for me. Bananas Foster waffles looked great, as did eggs Benedict. Reasonably priced. Really lovely way to start the day.

Amazing! We came here for breakfast and loved it so much, we decided to come back for dinner the same day! Inside is super cute and they also have a nice patio in the back. Service was welcoming and felt like being at a friend's house. Also their chairs inside are really comfortable haha Shrimp and grits were divine with a broth that tasted a bit like corn chowder, tender shrimp and a few chunks of sausage. Had the short rib for dinner which was tender and surrounded with roasted carrots and parsnips. We honestly had no notes about anything we ate because it was all so good! Pimms cup was light and refreshing as well. I wish we lived here so we could come back often!

Cafe Amelie is a small place serving up big flavors right in the French Quarter. We had a reservation there during the last weekend of Mardi Gras and we are glad we decided to go here. Checking in was very quick and we were able to be seated without our full party, which we were very grateful for. Our server was patient and understanding with our party size and our requests for changes to our dishes. Ordering was quick and the food came out promptly even with a busy restaurant. We ordered the waffles with a side of bacon, the chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream, peeled gulf shrimp, and a bowl of gumbo. The waffle was standard and the bacon was nice and crispy. All three other dishes were fantastic. Starting with the gumbo, easily the best we've ever had. Full of savory flavors and spice without being too heavy in one direction; incredibly balanced dish. Likewise, the peeled gulf shrimp were a hit. The shrimp was cooked right and the peppery but sweet flavors came out in refreshing bursts. Lastly, the chocolate molten lava cake was the sweet we needed at the end of the meal, it was decadent. We were pleased with our meal here and thankfully so because we had high hopes when we came in. Between great food and the vintage New Orleans appeal of the inside (add fantastic service too), we feel strongly that Cafe Amelie is a spot you should hit if you're in the French Quarter and want a great brunch full of Cajun flavor.

In a city where nearly every meal feels five-star, I didn't think it was possible to leave a restaurant genuinely underwhelmed but this place proved me wrong. We came here for an early dinner before a ghost tour and left so disappointed with the food and ended up having a second dinner afterward. The ambiance is moody and intimate, making it a potentially great date-night spot. It was also jam-packed with people ,so it's clearly popular. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the hype. We ordered the gumbo and pulled pork, and neither was enjoyable .Everything tasted bland and overcooked and extremely hard to eat. On a positive note, the service was good, and it's possible we visited on an off night. That said, based on this experience, I wouldn't return the next time I'm in New Orleans.

I hadn't been since they moved to the new location and was excited to visit. The space is tight but welcoming and still gives that homey dining vibe. My reservation was for the courtyard, which is small but beautiful. The server came and just seemed really rushed and asked for drink orders. She came back and explained the bar was out of certain items. Drinks and food were reordered, then the menu was also out of items. Food started to come out and drinks were nowhere in sight. Drinks came halfway into dinner. The food was excellent and I would definitely come back for lunch, but for dinner this was not a relaxing experience.

Shrimp and grits with corn and andoille maque-choux (smaller portion).

Excellent food and service. Nice ambience. The shrimp and grits was delectable. My husband loved his beet salad and gumbo and my daughter enjoyed her noodle dish with italian sausage. Perfect way to step into NOLA after a long day of driving.

Came here for the first time today and had such a great experience! Everything we ordered was delicious! We got spinach and artichoke dip to start, shrimp and grits, and the salmon. 10/10 will definitely come back. Our server, Alyssa, was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and made our experience wonderful

I miss the food here already. We were able to snag a walk-in spot at the bar thankfully (it was packed in there) while we were briefly in New Orleans. Cute place with a lot of character as far as the interior goes. I had a lot of fun staring at the liquor bottles on the wall and watching the bartenders do their thing. We ordered shrimp & grits (10/10), some sort of pumpkin seed spread with bread (10/10), gumbo, and the Cajun poutine. The portion sizes were honestly perfect for sharing without being too much and we really loved everything except for the Cajun poutine! The pork in the poutine was super dry and otherwise didn't have much else going on, but it wasn't a big deal. Service was friendly and mostly prompt despite how busy they were!

Wow! What an amazing meal! The service was fantastic! Our server Tristen was very knowledgeable and super friendly. His recommendations were on point. We started with the spinach, artichoke dip and gumbo. I opted for the shrimp and grits and we also had the short rib. All were amazing. They totally exceeded my expectations. The ambience is great. We ate inside, but there's also a small courtyard in the back which is really nice. The inside dining room is warm and inviting and has the most comfortable restaurant chairs I've ever experienced. Cafe Amelie was not on my radar, but it will be on my list of go to places from now on. I highly recommend that you visit and experience this great treat that New Orleans has to offer!

Stopped in for a quick bite and the Gumbo was fantastic! Hit the spot! They were very busy since it was Sunday brunch but I was lucky enough to find a seat at the bar and the food came out very quickly.

I first visited Café Amelie a year ago during a work trip to New Orleans, and it left such an impression that I had to come back with my family this time. The restaurant is tucked away in a beautiful courtyard in the French Quarter, surrounded by greenery and old brick walls that make it feel like a hidden garden. The outdoor seating area is shaded and peaceful, perfect for a slow meal on a warm day. Inside, the space has a cozy charm with soft lighting, exposed brick, and elegant but comfortable furnishings. It's romantic without being stuffy, and the overall vibe feels authentically New Orleans. My family loved their meals. I ordered the shrimp and grits again, and they were every bit as incredible as I remembered. We had the chicken breast, which was tender and full of flavor, and the catfish sandwich practically melted in your mouth. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. Service was prompt and friendly without feeling rushed, which is especially nice in a smaller restaurant like this one. You never get the sense they're eager to turn over your table.. As before, I highly recommend making a reservation. Café Amelie continues to be one of those New Orleans spots that stays with you long after you leave.

Cute brunch spot! They sat us in the back patio on a beauutiful day. Pretty standard brunch far and I was trying to go light which somehow resulted in a chai rose latte (6/10) and a grilled chicken and waffle (7/10) which is a so interesting, i've never thought of a non-fried chicken with a waffle before. We also all shared a cheesecake by slicing a spoonful and passing it on lol. The waitstaff there was great and told us about a tradition pinning dollar bills to the bach girl which sounded so fun

Are they open or still under renovation?

The reopened about 2 weeks ago

    Is this restaurant permanently closed?

They are open; they relocated to the corner.

Is this place kid friendly? My daughter wants to go eat there for her 17th birthday but I have 18…

Outside is probably more kid friendly, however I don't think inside is too sophisticated that it would be a big deal, especially during the day.

    Is there a dress code?

No it's been a mix of casual and formal the times I've been.

Can you walk in or do you need a reservation?

It’s a popular spot so it’s best to have a reservation but you can also walk in. If it rains, the outdoor searing is closed and they have limited indoor seating. So it’ll be harder to walk in when it rains - but not impossible.

    Are dogs allowed?

Yes! They also offered a water bowl for our pup. There were 3 other dogs in the courtyard when we were there.

Am I able to dress nice as in wear heels?

You can dress nice but be careful with heels. The sidewalks outside are a bit uneven and friend fell when we walked over.

What are the keto options they got?

Hello, Thank you for your interest in Cafe Amelie. All of our menu options are at cafeamelie.com. There are some dietary specifications there but each dish has a description as well.

Hi is there a kids menu available for brunch?

Yes! Kids waffle with berries and whipped cream, grilled cheese and soup, unicorn lemonade, ice cream scoop with chocolate sauce.

Are there gluten free options with special care to ensure no cross contamination?

How are accommodations for food/bar/space here? I'd love to hear from someone who's had an event here. Had dinner in the courtyard once and am open to my wedding reception here.

Lunch in the courtyard - spectacular!

    Is this restaurant dog friendly?

I have gone twice and have NEVER seen a dog there.

Is it a fixed menu for the courtyard? I saw on the menu photos there's "cafe entrees" and then a fixed menu?

No, you get the same menu inside or in the courtyard.

    Brunch drink specials?

hi, we offer a daily cocktail off the menu. our cocktail menu is on our website cafeamelie.com or you can go here. https://bit.ly/2FUeFdm . call for info our the daily cocktail is usually featured on our social media.

Do you guys have bottomless mimosas for brunch on Sunday's?

I am sorry but we don't offer bottomless mimosas. We would still love to have you visit for one of our courtyard brunches. Thank you.

Is the weekend brunch a JAZZ brunch?

Hello Mary, Thank you for your interest in Cafe Amelie. We do not offer live music during brunch.

    What's vegan here?

Thank you for your interest in Cafe Amelie. Our menu is changes per shit but are always we can do without cheese and a veggie pasta without pam. There is also an app of brussel sprouts that we are happy to do without bacon.

How late have you eaten here before? We have reservations at 8pm on Thursday but don't want to be the last guests

We walked in around 730pm and it was still very much busy. We sat outside and I believe all the tables were full; inside it seemed to be quite busy (louder and many full tables). The food was awesome.

Boy, it was sure nice to get some vegetables in my stomach after eating all that yummy fried food during our stay! All in all, both dishes were delicious. It is a little on the pricey side, but after several days of eating in the touristy area of the French Quarter, this was truly a welcome change. Service was polite and attentive. The ambiance is amazing, plus velvet, emerald and sapphire tone, glitzy, and feels like a good photo op. The bar and cocktail menu looked expansive. However, I was going to be hopping on a meeting, so I could not partake, unfortunately. A group got this impressive tower of espresso martini and everyone seemed to be enjoying their drinks! I wanted that New Orleans seafood but had late lunch, so I opted for just the crispy gulf shrimp on cheesy grits. I really wished I can hungrier because the dish ended up being very heavy. The shrimp were nice and crispy. The charred Brussels sprouts gave me the false sense that this was a healthy dish because I was getting my veggie intake. The bacon jam was sweet and went well with the Brussels sprouts. I loved the combination of the cheesy grits and the Crystal hot sauce. It was the perfect amount of both and some how led me to understand why Americans put hot sauce on their Mac n cheese and some other cheesy dishes after 30 years of not really understanding the attraction to that combo. I got the marinated olives to go so I could have a little snack later. They were just stuff I feel I could get in a jar... not really sure if I could justify the price. I think this is a fine place if you're looking for a photogenic night out drinking with a group of friends. Could be really cute for brunch!

My wife and I visited on our first NoLa trip together about 4 years ago and make it a point to go every time now. Our first time we stopped in for lunch at the bar and had an excellent experience, and decided to return. We came back on the next trip just to grab a drink and a snack before heading down for dinner in the Bywater. The bartender (Chris) gave a bunch of recommendations for places to visit that way, all of which we have done in the past few trips and have loved. But it's this past trip where we were truly blown away. We were in town for JazzFest and after walking back to the French Quarter, we were thinking about food options and decided to take a gamble to see if we could get a seat at the bar or maybe grab a drink for the road before getting food somewhere else. The bar was full when we got there around 8/8:15, but they had a no show and could serve us, as long as we ordered quickly and were ok with the check hitting the table right at 9PM. Given our slightly (perhaps generous) inebriated state from being at the festival all day and being slightly underdressed, we felt this was quite a kind accommodation. With the clear expectations of needing to get our orders in quickly, we wasted no time making a decision on our drinks and a few food options. Despite this need for a quick turn around, at no time did we feel rushed. The food and drinks were absolutely perfect, as they always are. But what impressed us most was the staff. At no point did the hostess or wait staff seem annoyed by us, despite us parachuting in from a music festival and looking like sunburn and poor decisions. By managing expectations on the front end, we never felt rushed despite the need for a quick turn around. They were all lovely, professional, and as cordial as if we were regulars with standing reservations once a week. In terms of atmosphere, it is always perfect: lively and fun for a date night, dinner with friends/family, or just a nice drink before a night out and about. I truly cannot begin to explain how much I love this restaurant and every experience I've had there. The awards and accolades this establishment (a sincere and lofty term Jewel of the South truly deserves) have been awarded are beyond well earned. Restaurants around the country should aspire to provide the quality of food, service, and overall hospitality Jewel of the South provides on a regular basis. It will continue to be our first and foremost recommendation to anyone we know who is going to New Orleans. Bravo! We shall return!

The Apothecary was the cure. We grabbed seats mid bar and before we even finished settling in, there were waters waiting on the bar. That simple move already separated this place from the chaos outside. It's hospitality in its cleanest form: welcome in, take a breath, we got you. Inside is low light and old time apothecary mood, menus like a spellbook, but it's not gimmicky. The bartenders move like they've done the reps. Calm. Precise. No frantic showboating, no syrupy cover ups, no sloppy pours even with the parade energy banging on the door. We ordered two and they were both dead on. Alchemist Elixir: pea flower gin, elderflower liqueur, fresh lemon. It shows up pale violet with an orchid on the rim and yes it's pretty, but it's also disciplined. Floral without tasting like perfume. Bright without being sour. A drink that makes you slow down. Plus a magic chemists surprise. Corpse Reviver #2: local gin, Lillet Blanc, Grand Marnier, absinthe, fresh lemon. Cold, crisp, citrus first, then the herbal edge and just enough absinthe to remind you what city you're in. Served in a textured coupe with a cherry skewer, details handled like they actually matter. Outside, the streets were selling amnesia in plastic souvenir cups. Inside, The Apothecary was serving adults. Let Bourbon Street keep the grenades. Give me the anecdote .

The ambiance was absolutely stunning. We arrived at night, and even in the dim lighting, the charm of the space--from the books lining the walls to the velvet chairs and lush animal-print accents--created the perfect Saturday night vibe. It was also quieter than a typical bar, which made it feel refined and intimate; you can actually enjoy a real conversation while soaking in the beauty of the space. The drink menu is short but tasteful, with a wide range of profiles. With an exceptionally skilled bartender (sad I did not catch his name), every cocktail was perfectly balanced and beautifully executed. He was also happy to craft off-menu drinks by request. The host was also warm, funny, and attentive. We didn't get to try the food this time, but we're already looking forward to it on our next visit!

The entrance is nice with an overhead and plants lining the walk down into the lounge. Once you're in you're greeted by a hostess, who was actually a bit snarky and rude when seating us for our reservation (also said by another guest we spoke to). The actual space itself is moody, dimly lit with red accents throughout. It has a polished feel and the environment is incredibly intimate. Our waitress was very nice and made ordering with a party of 10 seamless. For our order we got a banana Negroni and a glass of white wine. The wine was great, crisp and sweet. The Negroni was strong and bold with the banana peeking through the drink with flavor. They also offer a few bites off their menu but we opted not to grab one there. The whole experience was fun and everyone liked their drinks. It's a great place to relax and get some drinks but the experience with the hostess was a bit off-putting. A great option if you're looking for a quiet, more refined cocktail lounge to enjoy a drink in NOLA.
