It was one of those days where I happened to be off of work in the middle of the week. I was craving chicken and waffles in the worst way, and I happened to be over by this location. The stars had aligned in such a way that I knew it had to be. The location is on the corner, and you could drive right past it if you didn't know what you're looking for (and I didn't, so trust me for that!). When you walk in, there's a bar seating area, as well as some seating on the main level, and then there's a loft type level with more seating available. I'm glad I was there on a random weekday, as I feel that the line to get in could probably get long on the weekend. I gave Toast another chance after a previous visit, but this experience was just as disappointing. I came in after a long shift and specifically asked my server to make sure the French toast wasn't hard, since that had been an issue before. He acknowledged the request, but when the food came out, the French toast was still hard and overcooked. When I tried to explain the issue, the server argued with me and insisted that's how it's made because of the brown sugar. That didn't make sense, especially since I've had their French toast before and it wasn't like that. I wasn't asking for anything unreasonable just properly cooked French toast. I was recommended this place by a friend who lives in New Orleans . The service was good, especially on my first visit. I went two days in a row for breakfast because there's so many different items on the menu that I wanted to try. When I come back to New Orleans, I will be trying more items on the menu. The fried shrimp and grits was so tasty. The shrimp was fried extra crispy and fresh. I order an espresso martini and added lavender syrup, which was a great idea. It was one of the best espresso martinis I've had because it was made with fresh coffee. I had the prosciutto and brie crêpe the next day with cheese grits it was very tasty but prosciutto and brie are both very salty foods so be warned that it can be salty. Both portions were really big so I definitely was stuffed when I left. I think the prices were decent and it is a cute little restaurant to stop by for breakfast with a friend or by yourself. My only downside is there is very limited street only parking. I had to circle the block a few times until a spot opened up, but it was worth it. read more

I'm so glad we were able to experience this spot during the week day to avoid the crowds! The seating is limited. I love that they hang colored pages as their decor. Family said it was the best French toast they've had. My boyfriend cleaned his basic breakfast plate. I swallowed my toast lol. And the fried chicken was seasoned amazingly with a little heat! I've been to both locations of Toast and the Gentilly Blvd location is my preference. The service is always speedy even on busy mornings. On my most recent visit, I kept my order simple and had salmon and eggs on toast. It was tasty but not mind blowing. To be fair, I got what I ordered. I usually get the catfish and grits which I really like but I'm trying to avoid fried foods at the moment. I also had a tall glass of unsweetened hibiscus tea and it was great. Update: Just took my mom and aunt for breakfast here and the prior review still stands. The food was so good! Those grits were the best I've ever had and the spinach crepe with veggies and goat cheese, surprisingly delish. I consumed the mayonnaise potatoes on the side and we all took our drinks to go. I finally stopped in at the Gentilly location, and I was seated surprisingly quickly! Everyone was friendly, and the cozy space was decorated very warm and cute! Our waitress was great, and the food came out quickly. My steak was tender and cooked perfectly, and so were the sides. We waited about 20 minutes for a table. Everything on their menu looked amazing! The menu has all the classic breakfast items - omelet, toast, crepe, etc. I had difficulty deciding but eventually went with their Omelette with Ratarouille, Goat Cheese, and Spinach. Great place to get breakfast or brunch in New Orleans. I got the pancake puffs with lemon. I feel like it's more of a sharing plate, but it's one of the items on the menu that popped out to me. 11/2/25 - Visited from out of town and wanted a nice, Sunday brunch. The wait wasn't very long considering how busy they seemed to be. I will say that all the staff appeared a little distressed, although I myself nor any of my party had a negative experience with them. Perhaps it was the rush of people or maybe it was something else. Food was absolutely amazing- no complaints across the board. I was skeptical about the omelette as I am anywhere, however it was actually one of the better omelettes I've enjoyed at a restaurant. Eggs and their in-house jelly were an excellent choice in my opinion, although my party had zero complaints of their hot chocolate and blueberry waffle. The worst service I've received in many, many years. I'm so disappointed with the treatment we experienced. Let me start by saying that, for some reason, everything we ordered was unavailable. We received our appetizer immediately, but then our food *never* came. We sat for at least 30 minutes and watched people who arrived after us finish their meals and pay before we even got ours. Unacceptable. After waiting for a while, I requested to speak to the manager. She was behind the bar and asked me to come over to her for our chat. Strike one. Ma'am, you can tell I'm already disappointed with the service, and now you're making *me* walk over to *you*? Make it make sense! Still, I remained polite and walked over. I explained the situation calmly, but I was met with zero empathy. Despite being polite and clear, she brushed us off and said our food would be out soon. Ma'am, that's not the *point*! We continued to sit and wait. And wait. And wait. Eventually, I told her we were leaving because we went out for breakfast to actually *eat*--not just smell the food others were enjoying. In the end, our drinks and appetizer were comped, and we left to find brunch elsewhere. Michelle apparently is the manager and overall she could do a much better job handling situations like ours. If anyone from management would like to speak to me about this issue I would be more than happy to share additional details. Terri was the best part of our visit and she only sat us. This spot is located downtown by the racetrack, located in a residential area so parking can be a bit hard on busy days. Wait was about 10-15 minutes but there is a local dive bar next door so we went there to kill some time. Service was great and the server who works behind the bar was very welcoming and friendly. Food came out in about 10 minutes after ordering and this was some of the best catfish I've had in a long time! So good that I thought about ordering another one. We ordered a mushroom, spinach crepe that was absolutely delicious. We also got the ratatouille omelette; equally as delicious.
