Maple Street Cafe is a little bit out of the way, as we are staying in the CBD. It was well worth the drive, and Yelp reviews didn't steer me wrong. We started off with the mussels. They were so fresh and delicious. Hubs and I both had the Filet Portabello, and it was YUM. My favorite was their bread and homemade butter. The food was amazing with great flavor. I had the fresh catch which was salmon. I liked how there were so many vegetables. At most restaurants you get one veggie or a medley with what seems like leftover veggies. I got the salmon (generous size) on a bed of spinach. There was broccoli, carrots and red cabbage and mashed potatoes. Great food and reasonably priced. My daughter is going to Tulane so I will definitely be back when visiting. read more

This just is definitively the best Greek salad in the city. It's got tomatoes, capers, kalamata olives, roasted red peppers, banana peppers, onions, hearts of palm, roasted garlic, green peppers, cucumbers and feta. I add the grilled chicken for protein, doesn't even need dressing! And the mixed greens are always crisp and never limp or starting to turn. I'm not a huge salad girlie (see my other reviews) but when I'm trying to eat lighter I still want lots of flavor and to feel full and this salad always does the job! I've been ordering it delivery, so can't comment on the ambiance but it's prepared quickly and with a good mix of all the goodies. Great for swimsuit season! read more

This cozy family-owned restaurant has been on my weekly radar for years. Extensive menu with just about something in every category although the only change is daily soup and a fish, which is really the same. Lately, the service has been neglectful, possibly because of short -staffing due to summer. However, I haven't seen much of a decrease in clientele this year. The prices are slightly high with every item ending in .95, like I don't know that 19.95 is $20. My main complaint is personal, specifically that I've gone approximately 100 times and NEVER been given a complementary glass of wine or meal. Every other restaurant does this. Not asking for free. Asking for appreciation. I hope they realize this and return to excellent service and appreciation of locals. And don't charge me full price when I order chicken lemon and you eat half. We happened upon this little cafe while visiting New Orleans. We were pleasantly surprised to find not your typical cafe, but more like a 5 star restaurant. The server was about the best waitress I've had in years. She obviously studied to be able to describe every dish in great detail. The food was nothing less than marvelous. read more

I can't believe I never wrote a review of this gem of a restaurant. The setting, Memorial Day Weekend: Girl's Trip. First and foremost, get the pillowy soft French bread with their amazing chilled albeit spicy soft butter accompaniment. Truly the highlight of our meal. We happened upon this place after exploring outside of NOLA near the university. School was out and everything was quiet... and ungodly hot. We were relieved to find a place that was open, cool, and offered spritzers. As we rehydrated and enjoyed the AMAZING free bread appetizer, I ordered the crawfish pita with feta. stopped here for a solo lunch and it was amazing! the vibes in here are really nice. it reminded me of a european style cafe. i ordered a greek salad and the 4 cheese ravioli. both were absolutely delicious and the portions were really generous - i packed up both to have for leftovers later. they unfortunately don't have espresso but did offer coffee and dessert after my meal, but i was stuffed! i would love to return and try a drink and dessert. a really nice neighborhood cafe that i would definitely frequent if i lived here long term. read more

Highly recommend this restaurant. I had come from out of town and good dining was key for me. I was shocked how good the food and service was. The sign had "Cafe" on it but should had been more like Italian Bistro. It doesn't look like much from the outside but the food and service is as good or even better than some other fancy restaurant restaurants in the city. They offered coffee, decent but a nice Lavazza expresso latte or cappuccino would had been be nice as an option here. Crossing fingers they could consider for when we return to visit. read more

However, yesterday while we enjoyed our cocktails, ate our appetizers and main courses a continual parade of DoorDash/GrubHub/Whatever delivery people traipsed though the room to the kitchen and back out to pick up plastic bags of food for delivering elsewhere - completely disturbed the comfy vibe of that dining room. What a shame. In addition, we found the food not up to the fine standard we'd come to expect - perhaps the kitchen was too busy handling all the outside delivery food to give those customers dining in the best meals. We were very disappointed in this once perfect, casual dining restaurant. And, we were very sad that the owners decided to use imported crawfish instead of supporting Louisiana crawfish farmers. read more

Visiting our 2 sons at Tulane and found this excellent place just a few blocks from campus. It's not going to win any James Beard awards because it's focused on delivering hearty delicious dishes that aren't assembled with a pair of kitchen tweezers. They served up one of the best lamb shanks of my life. Magazine Street, the CBD and the French Quarter all have amazing restaurants but don't let them overshadow this gem. read more

Was eating near Loyola University because we were seeing a play there. Found the only non-dive on the college strip, where it seems professors and a few fancy sorority girls dine (though not together). Surprisingly good food. Oysters Almandine: Perfectly fried oysters so it's crunchy on the outside, with a good amount of batter, and soft on the inside. No funky fishy smell either. But that creamy almandine sauce, wow! That really jazzed up those oysters and made them addictive. Maple Street Crawfish Pasta: A very generous amount of crawfish tails. Like super meaty. With a good amount of diced bell peppers and onions in a subtle butter sauce. Reminded me a little of shrimp scampi, but with a Louisiana twist. Pork Chop: Thick and meaty, tasted quite porky. A subtle sauce, which pairs well. Some random veggies. It was fun, but the crawfish pasta was a better choice. White Chocolate Bread Pudding: Warm. Gooey. Saucy. This was just the perfect way to cap off a meal. Though once the sauce was gone, the dense steamed pudding remaining wasn't as tasty. read more

Another great neighborhood place for dinner just off Carrollton Avenue. A comfy conversion of house into cafe, you can set on two levels inside or in the side outdoor patio. This is a solidly consistent place to grab some good food. I rotate in here probably once every two years or so, as it usually isn't at the top of my list of places to go with all the other great options in the area, but I've brought a few out of town folks here when other places were super crowded and it has always been easy to access. The service has always been pleasant and the interior space is much nicer than you might think from just driving past and looking at the exterior. I've rarely had anything that disappointed me here outside the burger but I've also never had anything that excited me either so this place is definitely a solid three star A-Ok in my book with potential to reach higher. Charming place. There is also an outside sitting available. Parking can be challenging, but hey.. this area is super popular. And if you don't mind walking - you can park on a side street. Our server wasn't very attentive though. She came to us asking if we were ready to order food or dessert without giving us much time to look at a menu. We'd ask for a minute to think and she'd disappear. Every time we had to wave to get her attention. But on the other hand, the restaurant was pretty full at a lunch time. But food was delicious. I love Maple Street Cafe! This is a cozy restaurant situated in a hip area of Uptown. It is nestled among trendy restaurants and boutiques (kind of a micro version of Magazine Street). My daughter, wife, and I stopped in here last week (Friday, August 19, 2022) around 4:00 for an early dinner. My daughter had the Chicken Lemon, my wife had the Chicken Robah, and I had the Veal Nora. All three entrees were very good. The Lemon Chicken was probably my favorite of the three. My wife really liked the breading on the Chicken Robah. To my pleasant surprise: two of our three meals came with red cabbage which is an underutilized side in most restaurants. Service was very good and prices are reasonable. I can't wait for my next visit. I struggled with the rating. There are soo many great restaurants in New Orleans - I can't give them all fives. But then it occurred to me: if this restaurant was in Indiana or Florida it would be hands-down a five star rating. So why should I penalize it just because it is in New Orleans? read more

I came here on a nice weather day one Friday afternoon for lunch. We sat outside under the covered section of the restaurant. The waitress was super nice. We ordered the calzone and it came with a cheese stick which was basically a cheese pizza. I loved Mt calzone but I loved that cheese pizza better! Also ordered a tomato soup and the cheese stick came with that as well. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the food and the service. They have the scanner code foe the menu but if you ask they will Give you a hard copy. Also the restaurant inside has a decent amount of space as does the outside and again it's covered. Waitstaff were very attentive and offered wine pairings with our meals. Gabby was our waitress. She wore her mask, friendly vibes, and offered off the menu specials while visiting. We started off with stuffed shrimp for appetizers, very delicious and the crust was buttery and flaky MUST TRY! Our entree were shrimp angel hair pasta, and red fish topped with lump crab and pasta. If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would! I dined here with a friend for lunch and we were so impressed. All of the food was flavorful and fresh. We also felt like we were dining in an upscale restaurant, but the prices were so affordable for lunch! It's a small, but very welcoming neighborhood cafe.
