Helpful server! Very tasty food! Unique fun restaurant! Very pleased! Relaxed environment that is welcoming and not pushy.

Me and my family celebrated a belated Mother's Day brunch here on Saturday morning. It was our first time dining for breakfast and we really enjoyed it! All of our food was delicious. (I really enjoyed the sweet potato pancakes!!) I want to try some of their breakfast sandwiches and other menu items. The spinach and artichoke dip was delicious AND the cast-iron skillet it's cooked in and keeps it hot for the whole meal. They even offered to refill our chips, which was really nice. Service was good and she knew a lot about the menu! So that was super helpful. I will say it took us about an hour and a half to eat here so if you're looking for something quick, then this might not be the spot for you but if you're looking to enjoy a nice meal and are in no hurry - it's a great spot. I do like that the food doesn't come out immediately because that way I know it's actually being made fresh. Def check out the back alley bar!! You can also sit back there and dine-- Just let the hostess know you'd prefer to sit out back. One thing I did notice was their happy hour and I will be coming back for that! Half off bottles of wine!! and they do happy hour all seven days of the week which is not very common.

This was a bit out of the way from the hotel area but the food was worth the trip. Everything we got was excellent. The place is rustic and there is a big picture of the dog for which I supposed the restaurant is named. The service was friendly and left us alone to eat and talk. Great food and one of those great "hole in the wall" places that are so much fun to find.

We came here because the reviews for Brunch were great. I must say that they did not disappoint. I tried the egg sardu and it was delish. Well balanced! Good portion and very tasty. We tried the brisket omelet and tuna something... very tasty. However I was looking forward to their bloody Mary's and that I most definitely the thing I didn't like. All I could taste was the horseradish. It really missed the mark! But their boozy frozen Irish coffee redeemed the drinks. The service was great, very attentive and we didn't have to sit to be seated at all. The decore and ambiance is rustic but inviting and friendly. All and all a nice brunch spot!

The service was great. The server was very friendly, welcome, and helpful The food was served hot and fresh when it arrived. There are many places to sit. The entry way has a lot of windows so good for eating and people watching. I can't wait to come back!! The cheese grits were a large portion and were very good. The waffle was served hot. Great food. The frozen Irish coffee had a great flavor and I'm not a coffee drinker.

This is my absolute favorite restaurant in the entire city, and they are back serving dinner now! 3-6 pm Thursday through Monday is a Happy Hour down the back alley, and you MUST go! Yes, follow the arrow to the Back Alley Bar, the 3-foot-narrow strip leading to this beautiful courtyard with a bar on one side and an old-wood-walled dining space. We started with mussels and chorizo and could not stop eating, followed up with a pimento patty melt that is as fantastic as it is creative. This review is not ending because we are coming back tomorrow for breakfast, and don't be surprised if we do lunch here Monday before flying home.

Strip Steak Au Poivre - medium well

Gave this place three stars not based on the food, but based on the alcoholic beverages. We ordered champagne, but the champagne was very flat. Wouldn't recommend . But the steak was AMAZING ! It was literally seasoned to perfection. The potatoes that come with it was also a 10 out of 10. Very creamy and cheesy . The Brussel sprouts were a great addition to the meal . Our waiter Savannah was very nice & informative . Very cute cozy atmosphere. Would definitely give it another try in the future .

After my meal here, I realized JUST how well Louisiana does breakfast/brunch. Hopped in early and we were led to a table inside where the restaurant opened up even more. As you can tell by the pic, we ordered a massive spread to try a little bit of everything. It was my first time having a lot of things - Eggs sardou, shrimp and grits, sweet potato pancakes. Eggs sardou took me by surprise as I really enjoyed this. Nice twist on a classic eggs benedict with a biscuit in place of a muffin and delicious crab, arugula on the side as a refreshing item to tie it all together. Sweet potato pancakes were the sweet dish we chose to complement the eggs sardou, and boyyy was this good. Bacon on top too? Yep. Shrimp & grits were yummy, all I have to say. Overall, quite a pleasant breakfast here on Magazine St.

A must-try in the Garden District! I wish I could start every morning out like this. Setting: Right on the strip of stores in the Garden District, this beautiful restaurant is spacious and has ample seating. Service: Do expect a bit of a wait, ours was 20 mins long. The waitstaff were super kind and had great suggestions. Food: We ordered the frozen mimosa (fruity, sweet, bubbly), Joe Blow, and Chicken and Gravy Sandwich. All were delicious - and make sure to try their biscuits with strawberry jam!

We loved stopping into the Red Dog Diner for brunch. We appreciated the a la carte options for breakfast foods. Everything was delicious. We thought the curried cauliflower would be incorporated into the omelette in a more chopped up way but it was whole florets-it was so good. The arugula and hummus on the side were a wonderful addition-I only wish I had a bit more hummus. The kids loved the eggs, waffle, and bacon. Not pictured is the cherry almond bread pudding... also amazing. We sat inside but they also have some outside seating as well. Service was very friendly and helpful. On a side note we lucked out and got parking directly in front of the diner which was just an added bonus to the visit.

Great stop for brunch! Loved the cozy inside with the wood interior. Service was welcoming and friendly. My husband and I shared a few dishes- Fried Green Tomatoes-crispy wedges of green tomatoes were fried to perfection and so sweet and juicy. Biscuits and Jam-buttery, fluffy biscuits served with housemade jams and butter. I really enjoyed both the peach and strawberry jams with the biscuits. Crusted Crab and Eggs Sardou-amazing and one of my favorite bites this trip! Jumbo lump crab meat, spinach au gratin, poached eggs and hollandaise over a puff pastry. Decadent, flavorful and delicious. Great stop for brunch!

The Hipster

We had a trainee as our server and it was good, she was doing great. She was a bit slow with the service, topping off waters, checking on us, bringing the check. She was learning though so we were flexible! I got the hipster sandwich and loved it! It was quite messy and I was only given one napkin, but I survived. The sauce they added to the bread was very flavorful. I enjoyed it.

Rich, layered, and well-balanced with fresh elements that worked together on the plate. For entrées, we had a variety of cuts, including the Australian Wagyu, ribeye, butcher's cut, and lamb chops. The Wagyu stood out immediately. High quality, great sear, and finished tableside, which added to the overall experience without taking away from the food itself. Each steak was cooked precisely to temperature and full of flavor. The lamb chops paired with carrots and brussels were well executed and balanced. The sides complemented the meal well and did not feel like afterthoughts. You can also see their in-house dry aging setup, which speaks to the level of detail they put into their steak program. It shows in the final product. The drinks were solid across the board. The Old Fashioned and bourbon selections paired well with the meal and matched the food's quality. Service by Noelle was attentive and responsive throughout the night. Everything flowed well, and we were taken care of without feeling rushed or hovered over. This is not a casual dinner spot, but for a celebration or a night where you want a full experience, Doris Metropolitan absolutely delivers.

Glancing at the hostess, asking "OK to sit at the bar?", getting a nod, sitting down. An experience we've done in hundreds of restaurants. (We had reservations for a table but often prefer the bar.) The bartender -- whom we believe was named Mike -- started off his interaction with new customers as follows. "Did you check with the hostess?" I nodded in the affirmative, apparently that wasn't enough. "Check with the hostess", he ordered. I got up, went over the hostess stand, and confirmed, this time so "Mike" could see, that it was OK for us to sit at a half-empty bar. (In retrospect, we should have gotten up and walked out immediately, but it was late and even in the Quarter most places were closing for dinner.) You see, Mike clearly didn't want to be working that night. He was rude, inattentive, and condescending. And not just to us, to everyone seated at the bar. Slow making drinks, slow asking for orders, seething contempt for his customers. One time we asked to see a drink menu to decide on a new drink, he said, and this is a direct quote, "Do you want to see it or do you want to review it?" Mike's behavior was clearly well-known to the staff, because another staff member, who was off-shift and next to us at the bar, witnessed this behavior and arranged for a free dessert on the house (classy move on her part). She confided in us that Mike's pretty much always like that, but that he's a buddy of the general manager so seemingly un-fireable. Well, here's hoping someone reads this and thinks the better of Doris Metropolitan, or at least sitting at the bar. Unless you think service you'd get in a Paris tourist trap cafe is appropriate for a high-end steakhouse, you're better off spending your hard-earned money elsewhere.

Now I'm sure the hostess is accustom to people bringing in their pets and lying that they're service dogs, so she told me that we had to sit outside. That's obviously illegal, we got the manager involved, the manager quickly understood that we weren't bringing a pet and got us sat inside. We ordered drinks, they took a long time to come out. I asked the grade of the Wagyu on the Manhattan steak, and the server told me it was "6 or 12 or something" Wagyu obviously comes A1-A5, so I asked him to go check. He came back and said it was A5. Not knowing Wagyu grades, and the drinks taking a while was the only place the service was lacking, he was otherwise delightful. $70 bucks seemed kind inexpensive for an A5, but I had never actually had one before so I ordered it medium rare. We ordered the seafood platter, that was fine, the breading on the shrimp was kinda soggy. Main courses comes out, and my medium rare steak was literally back black and blue. It was still cold in the center. I'm not one to send food back, but I couldn't eat it. Sent it back. It comes back quickly... too quickly, still way under cooked. Sent it back a 3rd time. At that point the rest of my family was done eating and I asked for it to just be removed instead. Which they did, and they boxed it up for me anyway in addition to comping all of our drinks, which was of course very nice. I ended up eating that steak for lunch the next day, and IF it was Wagyu, it was A1, there is a 0% chance that had the marbling to be an A5, I've had prime New York's from CostCo that had better marbling. So I give them 2 stars, the server had some learning to do, been there, but was very nice. They made up for their errors on the bill, I appreciate that, but we still went there with higher expectations. 2 stars is kind.

From the moment we sat down, the staff set the tone--professional, genuinely friendly, and impressively efficient. We began with a trio of starters that showcased both richness and restraint. The foie gras torchon was silky and indulgent, perfectly complemented by fruit confiture and warm, toasted Bellegarde Bakery bread--a classic pairing done right. Marinated crab claws, dressed in a lively chili vinaigrette, delivered a bright, briny punch, while the pickled pineapple and jalapeño chips added just the right balance of sweetness and heat. A cucumber salad rounded out the starters, crisp and refreshing, acting as a welcome palate reset before the mains. For entrées, comfort and finesse shared the plate. The confit chicken thighs were meltingly tender, paired with ham-braised greens swimming in a tangy apple cider vinegar broth. A lovely Dijon cream tied everything together, adding richness without overwhelming the dish. Equally memorable was the half smoked duck, beautifully executed and deeply flavorful, served over a smooth pumpkin-sweet potato purée. The cherry bourbon glaze brought a subtle sweetness, while the pepitas added texture and a nutty finish. Dessert was the perfect exclamation point on an already wonderful meal: a slice of hot chocolate cheesecake, decadent and deeply chocolaty, crowned with toasted marshmallow fluff that leaned just enough into nostalgia without crossing into excess. Toups Meatery continues to deliver thoughtful, soulful cooking with polish and heart--comfort food elevated, served by a team that clearly knows what they're doing. That's clearly communicated when you're greeted, so naturally it sets the expectation for shareable portions. We started with the ricotta and meatballs. Overall, portions felt on the smaller side, but the ricotta, especially at $18, was honestly a bit shocking in size. When we asked about it, a server jokingly said "inflation." I get it, but still. The two guys I dined with come here often and were actually the ones pointing out that portions have seemed to shrink. For mains, we each ordered a pasta. One was a server recommended agnolotti with crab, corn, and roe. It was decent, but the broth felt a bit too loose and could've used more depth and richness. That said, the crab portion was generous, the pesto was great, and the red sauce pasta was solid. We also ordered two pizzas, hands down the highlight of the meal. Easily the best thing we had. One small but off putting detail, the red pepper flakes were served in an open jar rather than a shaker. It made me question how many hands had been in it, especially since it appeared to have been reused from another table. Not the most sanitary presentation. Dessert was a strong finish. Panna cotta, tiramisu, and olive oil cake were all fresh and delicious. Drinks included a cocktail for me and beers plus an espresso martini for the table, all fine. Service wise, things started okay but felt rushed toward the end. We even mentioned we were still picking at food and what seemed to be a manager still cleared plates from the table. The tables themselves are also very small, which doesn't help when you're doing family style dining. Our server appeared to be training someone but never introduced them, which made things feel a bit awkward. Also, when resetting silverware, it felt rushed and a little careless, almost tossed onto the table rather than placed. Overall, the experience was good but not great. The food had its highlights, but portion sizes versus price and some service missteps held it back. 6/10, and honestly it reminded me why I hadn't felt the urge to come back before.

As for recommendations that you must try when you go, the crab au gratin was one of the best dishes I've ever had!!!
