Went to Ruby Slipper today. As always the servers were excellent. I think quality of the food has changed since the pandemic caused lost employees. Ordered the Special Gleason grillades and grits, a staple of south Louisiana cooking. Grits were cold, oork tenderloin was somewhat tender but clearly from sunday. My wife's meal had a fried green tomato. It had to have been prepared some time in the past and nuked to luke warm today. This restaurant,in the past has been 5 star. I do not unfortunately understand the hype of this place. Every time I've tried to come there is an impossible wait. It's not that clean. The floors are very sticky. The only reason they have the 2 stars is because our server was the best. I was very happy with him. I wish I remembered his name but he was very honest about the menu and super helpful. So my boyfriend and I were doing some last minute shopping and wanted do breakfast. I googled a breakfast place that we hadn't gone to and lo and behold this place popped up. There was no wait and we were seated immediately. This place was packed and now I see why. I didn't like that the mimosas were $12 so I just went with the coffee. The coffee was a bit strong but creamer made it all better. We ordered the fried green tomatoes. These darn green tomatoes had an extra twist to them. They were so amazing. I ordered an omelet with spinach and goat cheese. The goat cheese was a little overpowering but I devoured it anyway. We even tried the sweet bacon (I don't remember what it was called) but the bacon had a sweet sugary sauce on it. I will be back to try other things. read more

Wow...this place is not messing around with the delicious food. We had a little wait as they were quite busy, and it was well worth it. Great menu, so many choices, but the folks next to us said we needed to try all of the Benedict options. So we did. SO good. Hard to pick a favorite, but the Fried chicken was pretty great, as was the pulled pork. There isn't one I was mad about. The kiddo had the salmon omelette and it was perfectly fluffy and savory. The Cafe is super cute and also in a great area! The service was not that good and our food came out kind of slow in my opinion. I had The Peacemaker 1/2 St Charles Chicken and 1/2 Cochen, it was alright. I found that by the time I got to my second one the bread/biscuit was too moist for my liking. I had a bite of the shrimp and grits and it was really delicious! I would definitely get this next time I come. I also had a side order of buttermilk pancakes, I did not like it. We arrived early Sunday morning (around 7:30am) for breakfast so of course there was no wait. I was shocked at how small the dining room is for such a popular eatery. I can tell there would be a long line during busy times. The menu had many interesting options and their website says everything is from scratch and locally acquired when possible. Both of these are pluses in my book. Our dishes both included delectably runny eggs, and everything was perfectly cooked. It's a better breakfast than many others who compete in this market. The coffee was strong and they keep it coming. My only issue was slightly slower service. We were there just over an hour for 2 people to eat breakfast. And the price was almost $50. The customer service manager not only welcomed me back for another try on the business's dime, but they offered to send me "something" in the mail requiring my address. We have been here a few times for breakfast.. we had their migas and tried couple of their omlettes. They all tasted OK. The best I liked from them is the honey butter they give along with their biscuits and the side of their potatoes. They tasted so good that I asked for more everytime we went. The only negative experience we had when we visited just yesterday was that the biscuit was not baked completely and I got the stem in the avacado they served with my dish. Over the years this has been a pretty consistent place to get a nice breakfast. Recently on a visit it seems they are losing their way. We went on a Sunday around 1 PM and they don't close until 3 PM. They gave us a seat, and for about 20 minutes we watched ourselves be ignored as it appeared like nobody would take up the assignment of our table right in the middle of the place. Finally somebody felt sorry for us and came over and started to take our drink orders and our food. We both ordered coffee with a breakfast selection and apparently it was too late in the day for that. We did get an initial cup out of them, but then on requesting a refill we were told that somebody had poured out the remainder of the coffee and they wouldn't be making more. This was at about 2 PM. I'm sorry, but if it's on the menu, those little things matter a lot, make some coffee. Our food was OK but it always felt like our table was not very important and we were glad to get through our brunch event and just hit the road. We never did get more coffee and sure missed that. Of course we were charged for coffee just like we ordered. If you're going to start shutting down an hour and a half early on things, then you're missing the point. Overall, the experience was disappointing as it appeared to be a lack of teamwork there. Nobody was going to help anybody else's table out. We could watch a table right next-door to us get drinks, refilled or coffee refilled after we arrived but course it wouldn't help us because we belonged to somebody else. read more

The first time I was here the service was great but today the service was terrible. While it was Sunday we came at the end of the rush. I understood it taking 30 minutes wait time to be sat but there were people who just walked in and were sat. The hostess with braids honestly the best part of the experience she was nice and she kept us updated. When we sat it took 15 minutes for our waitress to come over to us and by that time we already knew what we wanted and we ordered. She did not understand substituting the pork Tasso for regular hollidaise sauce it took too long to explain and then when only one needed a sub she subbed both. She never came to see how our food was and just overall was not a helpful server. At the end my boyfriend and I put down two cards and asked her to split it evenly. She came back with two checks and swiped. He swiped first and it came out significantly cheaper than mine I asked why she told me it was easier to split it by meal and drink so she didn split it down the center despite being asked to. While the food was amazing the fact the service was so bad it will be hard for me to say I will be back anytime soon or will recommend this place. Ruby Slipper probably has the best Benedicts in town. It is so good! First let me start off letting you know that you do have to expect a wait here. I didn't mind the wait since I just used the time to catch up with my girlfriends so the time passed by really quick. Hopefully, Ruby Slipper can get more seatings or expand the restaurant to accommodate the large number of people that comes here. On that notes, there's a reason why there's a wait. The food here is amazing! I had the Chicken St.Charles Benedict and the Shrimp Boogaloo Benedict. They both were delicious. The chicken was crispy and my egg was perfectly cooked. Both the chicken and the shrimp were full of flavor. The muffins were not dry which I really love. I thought that the staff was friendly and attentive. I had no complains for them at all.
