Found this place on Yelp, and the food was pretty solid. I will say, though, their waitlist and host situation is a bit of a mess. The area is super small with zero organization. We were in town for a football game, so I imagine it was busier than usual, but the hostess still seemed extremely overwhelmed and unsure of what was going on. Thankfully, the general manager ended up seating us, and he was extremely nice--our server was great as well. We all ordered mimosa flights, which were just okay. They had way too much juice for my taste, and the glasses weren't filled anywhere near the top. But the food made up for it. I had the Benedict Trio, which was amazing--super flavorful and very filling. The beignets were also hot, fresh, and delicious. Overall, a good spot for food, but the front-of-house operations could definitely use some improvement.

Prime time on a Sunday there is going to be a wait. Just roll with it, it is worth it. I have had countless versions of eggs Benedict across the U.S. and I can say the trifecta at Ruby Slipper is hands down the best I have ever had. Even being crazy busy we had great service with a smile.

Ordered from The Ruby Slipper on Uber Eats while in town, and every time I've had it, it's been outstanding. All of their breakfast dishes are consistently great - simple, satisfying, and really well done with that nice Southern touch. My favorite has to be the New Orleans-style French toast... so good. Easily one of the highlights for me. Overall, just a super reliable spot for a great breakfast. No complaints at all.

Gulf Shrimp Omelet with Breakfast Potatoes

We were greeted and seated immediately. It did take a little minute for our waiter to come to our table but she took our order quickly and put it in the system. I ordered the gulf shrimp omelette with breakfast potatoes, gluten-free toast, fruit salad, and chicken sausage. I also ordered an Earl Grey hot tea. So the food didn't take long to come out and the food did look good when it came out , for the most part. The side fruit salad was not great. I would not recommend it. Also, the toast came out cold, which was odd. The golf shrimp omelette was great. I got it without cheese. The breakfast potatoes, the ones that were not too crispy, were good and the chicken sausage was exceptional. Overall, I was really excited about coming here because they have a lot of history behind the restaurant, as well as they clearly mark their allergens, but it was a bit underwhelming.

Healthy breakfast that is quick and tastes great! If you want to try something local and has good breakfast food at a decent price, this is your place. Lots of menu options for breakfast. The only drawback is it closes around 2pm daily. The service is great and it is usually packed. Everything was plated well and delicious. I kinda wish the portions were larger though.

Fried green tomatoes with cold bacon

Well for starters , trying to leverage OpenTable as a swift way to seat people had about 12 people JAMMED in the small waiting area as they figured out where to seat everyone, restaurant was about 3/4 full, so it's a no brainer here- but that was the start. Second, took about 10 minutes for server to get to table, nice guy, but I blame on the house for SURE. Fried green tomatoes come out, usually pretty good but together , COLD bacon, bad presentation and they were just off, POOR. We only then just ordered a few sides of eggs, grits and bacon, and would you believe it- ALL WERE TRASH Eggs were eggy and wet like, absolutely disgusting, the potatoes were hard and over salted and the grits were watery and bland. I will NEVER come back to this place, I see they have a lot of people fooled, but I am onto it and would discourage ANYONE to come here, or at least don't come here and wait 45 Minutes for SLOW service and LOUSY food.

A nice restaurant serving breakfast. This cafe adds the Louisiana touch with a little spice. I ordered the Spanish Omelet. It comes with a choice of grits or hashbrowns. I chose the latter which came with a spicy ketchup. Additionally, it has a biscuit. The food was delicious. Our server came over numerous times to ensure we enjoyed our meal. I noticed other servers doing the same. I liked the set up and the wall signs and decorations. So if you are in Baton Rouge or just passing by, stop and have a bite at the Ruby Slippers Cafe.

Ruby Slipper was DELICIOUS as always! It really doesn't matter what you order, you will enjoy your meal! Always such a good brunch experience. Make sure to join the waitlist on their website if you are going for weekend brunch!

It's Simple as the name suggests…read more Nothing fancy or elaborate about this place. It's a small restaurant with a small open kitchen and a small dining room where you stand in line to place your order, get a number to put on your table, and servers bring the food to your table when it's ready. So, if you're looking for a large upscale, elegant restaurant with elaborate food presentations, this is not the place for you. But if you're looking for a simple, quick and delicious meal, Simple Joe Café is for you. The menu consists of a wide variety of breakfast favorites, but the menu is not intimidating and easy to read and order from. Simple enough. When my family and I arrived, the small dining room was packed with a few open tables and about six other customers in line waiting to place their order. On Saturday and Sunday, you cannot sit at the open tables or hold the tables until you have placed your order and given a tent number. At that point, the servers will help you find a table to accommodate your party. The employees do a very good job of clearing and turning over the tables to make sure everyone is seated and able to enjoy their meal in a timely manner. I am not a fan of breakfast food and normally don't eat breakfast, so I only had coffee while my family enjoyed their meal, so the food quality part of this review is based on what they described as they were eating. They each ordered Joe's Number One Breakfast Combos which came with two eggs, choice of meat and pancakes and they shared an order of hashbrown and a side of grits. The food came out quickly. They stated everything was fresh, prepared and cooked as requested, the food tasted very good and enjoyed every bite. Of course, the coffee was hot, and fresh and the service was fast and friendly. The relaxed ambience and decor add to the unique character of the restaurant. Date of Visit: Saturday 05-16-26 Simple Joe Café | 3057 Government St, Baton Rouge, LA

Instead, I was trying to meet a friend for lunch and he was so late that we couldn't get in where were trying to go. I saw the sign and off we went to Simple Joe Cafe. Simple, it is. Awesome food, it also is. This place is not fancy nor is it meant to be. This is a solidly Americana type menu and ordering at the counter, serving your own coffee, and picking your own table kind of place. AKA - the kind of place I love. I have been here a few times now and only had breakfast. Hint: they serve it all day. The two meat omelet is a great choice and has been my go-to. The other day some friends got burgers and a club sandwich and those looked great too. This will definitely be in the rotation for lunch.
