1. This nail salon prioritizes speed over anything else. The Faster they get one set of nails done the faster they can move onto the next. So while you will be in and out, they lack attention to detail. 2. Don't ask for acrylic nails. They may do it but their nail techs are all mostly trained in gel x now and their acrylic services are iffy. If you don't want gel X, I suggest you find a different salon. 3. They seem to deal with a lot of customers coming back in to get their last manicures "fixed". I was getting my nails done there for the first time and 2 different people came in complaining about their manicure peeling off or being bumpy. (And then I ended up having to come get my nails fixed a few days later as well) 4. If you have any issues with your manicure they will fix it, at no extra charge. But of course this is more time out of your day and to have it done correctly the first time is preferred. 5. The interior of this salon is so cute, they did a wonderful job with the design and it makes you feel so girly and luxe, I love it. 6. This place isn't all bad of course, if you want a fast, nice looking gel X manicure they can give you that, but that's about it. I I had my first Gel-X appointment here and absolutely love my nails! I got them done for an upcoming vacation, and at first I wasn't sure about the shape (it wasn't exactly what I asked for). Since it was my first time, I wanted to sit with it for a day and see how I felt. When I reached out, the salon was so kind and quick to get me back in to adjust them. Mandy took great care of me and made sure the shape was exactly what I wanted before I left. I really appreciated how attentive and accommodating everyone was. Overall okay-ish experience.. Nothing fancy . I had requested for an essential pedicure and it was okay. Felt like the person just wanted to quickly finish working on my feet. Requested that my feet massaged a little bit more and the person said that is the maximum I can do. I understand they may not be able to do anything else but they could try. "WHY DID YOU MOVE!!? I TOLD YOU NOT TO MOVE! CANT YOU SEE IM BUSY!?" Imagine taking your baby girl to get her first pedicure and this is the shit the nail tech is literally yelling at her in her face. I never do this but here we go. Story time! I took my daughter to Royal Nails in Ballard at 2pm on Sept 7th. We had appointments assuring they do kids pedicures ages "10 and younger" for $31. That price should've been the first red flag. They seated my daughter and I together. My daughter sat in a chair made for kids and even so her legs were too short to properly reach the foot rest. She was offered no pillow and no support. The actual first red flag: The woman named "Diane" who did my daughter's feet did not say one word to her, no "hi" "what's your name," nothing. She paints my daughter's first coat, and tells her not to move. Keeping in mind her heels are not on the foot rest because she can't even comfortably reach it so my baby didn't have a chance at staying still. This woman's tone caught my attention but I didn't read too much into it because I understand people have different "default tones." Second red flag: my daughter moved once more due to her position and the woman literally "tsked" at her and stares my daughter down. At this point my baby can feel the energy. I told my daughter, "it's okay, just try not to move and I know that it's hard because you are sitting weird." So then this woman doesn't say a word and leaves my daughter in that position for five minutes. During the five minutes she's trying really hard to keep her feet up. Comes back to do her final clear coat, sits down and sees my daughter's nail paint smudged. She then looks my 3 YEAR OLD IN THE FACE and yells ""WHY DID YOU MOVE!!? I TOLD YOU NOT TO MOVE! CANT YOU SEE IM BUSY!?" at my baby. Immediately I start going off at this poor excuse of a woman. I'm like "Why are you talking to her like that she's 3!!!?" The ugly duckling says "because I told her not to move and I'm busy!" And I say, "look at her! Can't you see how she's positioned!!!? You really think it's gonna be easy for her to stay still? It's okay if it's not perfect, I'm not paying for perfect I'm paying for the experience!" The wrinkled lady storms off. I was pissed to see that there was no staff correcting her. I immediately asked to speak to a manager. Instead they just brought me the next avail tech and when I told him what happened he finally gave my daughter a huge pillow support which she should have received from the jump and said sorry for your experience we won't charge you for your daughter. I said that fixing her nails wasn't necessary but great. what are you guys gonna do about the tech who just screamed at my daughter? He ignored me. I talked to a white appearing woman who said she would speak to the woman and the owner of the store but all I wanted was this woman to apologize. She also mentioned she understands if I don't tip. Although she made me feel somewhat heard, why in the hell are we talking about a tip!!!? My daughter never got one an apology. I paid for my service. Absolutely no tip. Was offered a $10 discount card. the next time I came in and I didn't even touch it. What do I look like coming back there???? I put my baby in the car and I could tell she was sad and she expressed it to me. That l broke my heart. I was trying to be composed enough to not startle my daughter although every instinct in me wanted to do more. If you made it this far I HIGHLY discourage you all from doing business here. The last time I came here I dropped $300+ on my sister and I and a diff woman doing my toes still copped an attitude with me because I wanted French tips. I really tried to give this place a chance. I'm sick of going to salons only for the techs to treat you subpar and then expect a tip. Rant over. Car seat straps were fixed adjusted before leaving. read more

I got a toe nail fungus from this salon! The facts: I rarely get manis or pedis, so my toes were in great shape. I had both done here in June. Two different women worked on my nails, one did the manicure the other the pedicure. However, after removing the nail polish four weeks later, one large toe had a fungus, confirmed by my dermatologist. I had to buy an expensive fungus treatment to get rid of it. What I noticed: the plastic bag holding the nail tools was not sealed! She simply removed them and put them back in the bag after using them on me!!!! The nail that got the fungus was cut VERY short by the gal, in fact it hurt when she cut it. It remained shorter than the rest of my toe nails, which was also of concern aesthetically. I hope they do something about the hygiene/sanitization procedure for their customers. I will not be back. read more

I visited Royal Nails in early November for a pre-vacation treat. I normally do my own nails, but had researched salons that offer builder gel manicures and found this place thanks to its good ratings and reviews. Booking was easy, so I was optimistic. Unfortunately, things went downhill once I arrived. The technician assigned to my manicure couldn't find the color I'd chosen, so I picked another without issue. But then the staff seemed confused about my services (builder gel mani + shellac pedi). Instead of checking my reservation, they kept asking me repeatedly, which didn't inspire confidence. One of my biggest pet peeves is getting a mani and pedi at the same time, and that's exactly what happened. Two different techs worked on me at once, leaving me tense, twisted in awkward positions, and definitely not feeling pampered. Communication was also difficult since neither technician spoke English, and they mostly chatted among themselves or checked their phones. The quality was the biggest letdown. The pedi was mediocre but passable. The manicure, however, was terrible -- thick, uneven layers that made my nails look bulky and boxy instead of the delicate square shape I arrived with. The gel started peeling within a week, and after removal I realized how damaged my natural nails were, likely from over-aggressive drilling. I paid $150 (including a generous tip), and honestly wish I'd just done my nails myself. Based on other reviews and photos, I believe some technicians here do great work -- but that wasn't my experience. To top it off, the woman greeting customers spent the morning filing her own nails and speaking with her mouth full when new customers walked in, which felt unprofessional. I made an appointment for a dip nail fill and arrived on time, expecting a simple visit. Unfortunately, from the moment I walked in, I felt like my concerns and preferences weren't respected. When I explained that dip nails are the only type that consistently lasts on my nails and that gel has repeatedly peeled off for me, I was met with a dismissive attitude. I was told, "Suit yourself," as though I didn't know what works for my own nails. I also requested a French tip using the dip technique--the same style I've had many times before and receive compliments on regularly. Instead of accommodating my request, I was told that doing French tips with dip was "the wrong way" and that they don't do it. The technician then wanted to soak off a beautiful set of nails that I had only come in to have filled. The salon itself also appeared less clean than I would expect from a professional nail studio, which only added to my discomfort. The biggest lesson I learned is this: when you break a nail, it's worth waiting to return to the nail technician you trust instead of rushing to someone new. I left disappointed and won't be returning. In the end I will take my business to non homophobic establishments that actually know what they are doing. They need to improve the system of seating the people who've taken the time to make a formal appointment. My girlfriend was here for a mani pedi today and burst into tears as she left due to the horrible experience that she had. The 3 staff members that she interacted with were all rude and unprofessional, from the moment she first walked in to pick the colors she wanted. The nail station was a mess, causing her to get black nail polish (from a previous client) all over her hands, which the nail tech did not help her clean off. The lady who did her pedicure was making faces the entire time and was very rough. The other lady she first interacted with insisted that she (the employee) would pick the color, and then did not pick one and refused to communicate with the nail tech about what colors she wanted. In the end, my girlfriend left with nails that were not what she asked for and felt extremely disappointed and uncomfortable. She will not be going back and I would encourage others to take their money elsewhere. read more

When I got there, the workers started yelling at each other in Vietnamese, which made me uncomfortable because I didn't understand what they were saying or arguing about. Then, a person who seemed to be the owner or manager patted one of them on the shoulder and said, "That's enough." I felt bad because I wasn't sure if she even understood what they were saying. Anyway, my nail technician was very rough. She made my toe bleed, and the edge of my toe nails are not clean at all! Not even. When I told her I wasn't happy about it, she just kept digging and digging, and I was in pain. I told her to stop, but she didn't understand me and kept going. It was not a good experience. When I got home, I realized the edge of my toenail was peeling off. Now, I'm traveling to Sicily with these ugly nails with bandaid on one of my toe, and I'm really unhappy about it. Everytime I come here I walk out with so much anger and regret that I even considered them. I live so close and it's convenient when I'm on a time crunch. I walked in for pedicure only with about 1 hour and 20 minutes before they closed. I called before and the woman who picked up the phone was nice and told me to come in. Standard experience of pick your color and sit in the chair. Unfortunately I did not get any type of consult on my service because the woman who did my pedicure went straight to chopping my toenails. Clipped my big toe down before I could even tell her I like my big toe to be squared. Now I'm flying on vacation with horrible toe nail shapes cut all the way down to my skin. $55 wouldn't seem like such a waste if you'd just consult the client for a minute. Yes you could argue I could have spoken up, my big toe was already clipped off. I was in and out in 35-40 minutes and they were surprised I did not tip. I will always pay for service but I am not one to tip when I am unsatisfied with the service. Unfortunately I will not be returning for as long as I live near by. The ladies in here are nice, but the results just don't match the service in my experience. read more

Been a loyal customer for about 2 years. Generally happy with the service I receive. Recently I notice they don't pay the same attention to detail I'm used to. Their work feels rushed and I see errors that didn't use to happen. They consistently seem understaffed and most people sit. The wait times they give are seldom accurate. I recently moved to the area and love this place! Super affordable and amazing service. Today I made an appointment for 6pm and they were a little behind schedule, but made it up to me with an amazing manicure experience. Worth the wait! Everyone here is so nice and always do my nails perfectly. They take their time and it shows. I just get gel/shellac on my nails, but they make them look as good as acrylics! One thing I love about Royal Nails is their online booking. It's so easy and you know exactly how much your service will cost before you go in. Nothing worse than showing up and getting a bunch of unknown fees added on. I also appreciate how clean it is every time i'm there. I would give this place an 11/10 if I could. I work down in Federal Way but I race back here after to do my nails because it's truly the best. Recommend to anyone in the area! read more

Highly recommend avoiding this place for regular mani / pedis. I've come twice and both times have left with overly trimmed cuticles that lead to weeks of hang nails. This most recent time she cut my cuticle so badly I had a scab and it was in severe pain on my trip. They also rush you without listening or asking for what you'd like.
