Bar

We have visited this fine "speakeasy" style restaurant on my occasion since they have opened and have always been happy with our experience. From the great wood grain basement dark ambience to to the raw, regular bar, and multiple sit-down options, we have tried it all. The allure of trying to find a place down in a basement where you have to find the right elevator was pretty bad ass. The hosts along with the waitresses and bar tenders are always welcoming and knowledgeable about their food and drink. I also think it is cool that you can get lockers to store your expensive liquor for return trips. We often come here for drinks and oysters, because my wife loves oysters and they have a wide range of options that aren't exactly cheap, but don't break the bank for freshness and taste. I only really mark down the rating because the menu has been stale over the years and they used to offer elk that is no longer available. Now call that pretentions or snooty, but I think they could use some unique options to keep the experience moving each time you come in. Also, I feel a restaurant of this caliber should be evolving to match their cool vibe and unique experience. I usually get the Wren house beer but feel the beer optiosn are limiting I also feel like some of their cocktails are overpriced, but they are unique compared to other places, so maybe I am just cheap. So really this rating should be more a 4.5. What really brings you back is the cool art on the wall with a Theodore Roosevelt slant and cool sitting areas like a sofa setting in what looks like it would be his old school library. Don't get me wrong everything I have eaten here has been good, but nothing hearkens back like that elk. This place makes for an amazing tinder date if you are willing to drop that cash and make that impression, come here then hop on over to Valley bar and she will think you are magician of illusive locations if she hasn't already been there.

Rough Rider is such a fun speakeasy, drink spot. The food is nothing to miss, also. While a dark vibe, the drinks are lively and fun. My purple drink reminded me of a snowball. With great service, drink recommendations and delicious food, Rough Rider is the total package. A speakeasy is always like a little oasis escape and Rough Rider is no different! I can't wait to go back soon.

Rough Rider felt delightfully off the beaten path in the best possible way. Stepping off the elevator was like being transported into a perfectly preserved speakeasy from another era. The space is warm, moody, and inviting--like a lighthearted Western brought to life--with candlelight and rich wooden accents creating an atmosphere that begs you to settle in and stay awhile. The drink menu was eclectic and thoughtfully curated, offering both trendy and classic cocktails alongside an impressive selection of spirits, beer, and wine. The bartenders were knowledgeable enough to suggest excellent off-menu creations and kept the drinks--including the water--flowing with effortless style and hospitality. The wedge salad was crisp and bright, elevated by thoughtful ingredients like jalapeño bacon and balsamic onions. The crab dip was a standout: packed generously with crab and complemented by just the right amount of cheese, finely chopped red onions, and crispy breadcrumbs. We ended the evening with St. George Absinthe, an absolute gem of an offering. Jake, Brad, and Stormy were kind, attentive, and full of great recommendations without ever feeling pushy or intrusive. We were able to truly enjoy each other's company while feeling genuinely cared for by the staff. Parking in the garage next door was graciously validated at the host stand. We left feeling full, impressed, and already looking forward to returning with family.

Friends!!! Great place for a large party!!! We celebrated our friend's 40th Birthday and Rough Rider did NOT disappoint!!! The food was FANTASTIC, see my pictures!! The ambiance was hands down a special experience with the restaurant being underground!!! The atmosphere was sexy and upscale. The service team from entry to exit was amazing and so very attentive to our large group! If you're in the mood for something different, upscale, sexy, and just plain different....try Rough Rider. My grade, and this is hands down an honest review: A++++

Siren drink

This place was SO fun for me and my ladies. We went here for my birthday and it was so fun. I made a reservation on open table which I HIGHLY recommend. We had a party of 10 and it was so fun. We all had drinks a some people ordered food. Due to party size there was auto gratuity and only 4 cards max. The bar is in the basement of the hotel. When we got there though it wasnt very clear that it was there. We got there a little early but the accommodated us nicely. Originally there was going to be 9 people but I asked day of event if I could bring another person and they said yes. The drinks were so good. Th divine feminine tasted like Jamaica drink with the hibiscus. Then I had the happy birthday Mr. President. Oh. My. God. It didn't even taste like alcohol it tasted like vanilla ice cream I'm so serious. It was delicious. Then I had the siren drink. That one wasn't bad at all. We all had a great time and shared laughs and everything. I love the setting of it though. It's a bit dark so we had to use phone lights to see the menu. But it feels like stepping into a whole new world once you enter. I think it's perfect for hanging out. Date night. Anniversary dinner. All of it. Our server was nice. Very friendly. I think he could use a little more on his hospitality just because sometimes I feel like he didn't know what to say exactly. A little disappointed that there wasn't really anything special for a birthday though. Not even a little card on the table that said happy birthday. Just a thought. Other fine dining establishments I've been in did.

Rough Rider has been through some changes that I find disappointing. When we were seated, I asked our server if they still have happy hour and he said he wasn't sure if we were still within the happy hour window - it was 3:30 PM. He then confirmed we were still within the happy hour window and offered to bring us a menu. They used to have an extensive happy hour menu featuring several drinks and food items and now their "happy hour menu" consists of a cheeseburger for $22. Not sure that that really constitutes as a happy hour menu... I asked him why they changed the menu and he put up his hands as if to say he's not to blame and said he doesn't have anything to do with those decisions. He said that "management decided to make a few substitutions but they're pretty good" and didn't provide any further elaboration. I ordered the appetizer lamb lollipops which had four small pieces for $25. My friend decided to try the "happy hour" cheeseburger and he said it was good but it did appear a bit overpriced for an average burger with a pretty hefty serving of french fries. I really wasn't impressed by the quality of the food, the portion size, the price, or the service. Unfortunately, I'll be taking Rough Rider off my list of regular places i frequent and restaurants I recommend to others.

Amazing drinks complimented with an amazing meal. I cannot wait to return to this place as I enjoyed it very much.

Went there for my husbands birthday. Small group of 5. The ambience was moody and felt like a secret speakeasy. On a Monday night the place was full. Outstanding server took great care of us and very knowledgeable. The roasted chicken and the pork chop were delicious enough of a reason for another visit. This is a wonderful place for a special occasion or romantic dinner.

Kim H.

I love this place. The atmosphere is so cool and literally cool inside especially great on a hot summer day. lol. The bartenders really know their stuff. We had the happy birthday Mr. President, s little too sweet for me, tasted better when we added the champagne sidecar. my favorite dish on the menu are the potatoes.

Scarlett M.

Oh wow this place is so good! I love a clarified cocktail and the one of the month is a version of a pina colada. This is definitely a full of speakeasy vibe as it is in the basement. They validate parking as well, which is always a huge plus. Great spot I've already been twice this month.

Super refreshing cocktail
Michael M.

Chris our Server is super nice and on top of his game, very cordial, knowledgeable and very accommodating. Love the ambiance, cocktails are Spot On, Food is fantastic and Service was phenomenal. We had the crab dip/marvelous-bread was to die for, Mussels-Excellent-broth very tasty, Salmon-fantastic- done perfectly with crispy skin, Pasta-very, very good. One of our favorite restaurants in Phoenix. Make Reservation, Parking Garage on East Side of Building is usually available. We will be back!

Saint of Santiago. Perfectly spicy and Smokey.
Amy J.

Saint of Santiago and Potion Seller for dessert were both winning cocktails IMO. Both were very well balanced. I ordered the hamachi crudo and it was delicious. I just wished I had more! Cuts were nice and thick and all the flavors blended well together. This place is like a secret but it's not. The vibe is fun and rustic at the same time. Bar tenders were all attentive and nice. The only thing I thought was a bit off was not having a specific bar tender which made it a little confusing sometimes. For themselves. One would take my order and the next would ask what I wanted. Or when I asked for the check and then another would ask me what I'm drinking next. Would definitely come back here at some point!

Kailee C.

In town for Valentine's Day and tried out this spot for a little date night. The vibes were immaculate and the service was amazing. Everyone was very attentive and nice and knowledgeable about the food and drink options. We got a few of the happy hour items and the crab dip. Everything we had (crab dip, oysters, jumbo shrimp, fried cauliflower, drinks) was so good. Highly recommend getting a "bartenders choice" drink. My fiancé ordered one and it was incredible. They also validated our parking from the parking ramp inside so that was very appreciated!

Are reservations required ? What is the dress code?

We made a reservation but for a large party. It does not look like one is required. Note: Parties of 6 or more canceled with less than 24 hour notice are subject to a fee of $25 per person.…

Is parking a problem?

There is a parking garage right next door. Or the lite rail stops out front.

Any gluten free menu items?

I am not sure that they have an area to keep food gluten free, but there are menu items you would consider to be gluten free. A lot would depend on your degree of sensitivity and how careful the kitchen staff are.

Which is the best seat...main dining table, raw bar counter or table by raw bar?

I have sat at all three. I prefer the bar. It's beautiful

Do they serve beer or just cocktails and punches?

They do have some beer, but severely limited options

What's the dress code? Could I in theory, show up in an antique dress in a hoop skirt?

I'm sure you could. You may find it bothersome to sit down, and you may knock people's drinks off their tables as you walk by, but who am I to dissuade a dress so bold. I would avoid wearing a t-shirt and Jean shorts, but dress is casual to…

Are walk ins available for the main room today?

Walk-ins are always welcome! Depending on the day and time you plan on joining us, there is a chance there will be a wait. We do have a separate cocktail lounge where you can enjoy a drink while you wait for your table. We also have some open…

For the $25pp fee to make reservation, is that charged to make the actual reservation or only if no show?

Only for the no show, Nothing is charged immediately. Hope to have you in soon! Cheers

Do they have highchairs for kids?

We do have highchairs available! Our menu is not necessarily kid friendly, but there's nothing like expanding their palate at a young age. Hahaha! We would recommend coming earlier in the evening, but we are family friendly to anyone who like to…

Is parking free in the adjacent garage?

It is not a free garage, but we do validate for our customers. Hope to have you in soon! Cheers

This is very cool joint with a dark feel too it. They have a basement bar which we ventured into and they also have an upstairs bar as well, so you can fit a lot of drunk People in there. It also features a lot of great art that fits really highlights the Mexican bar vibe. The waitress/bar tender/ agave expert was very welcoming and know a lot about their tequilas and mescal option. I love me some smokey mescal, I dont remember thet name of the drink but it had some kind of elote triple sec or something like that along with Mescal and it was quite tasty. Trust me I was in no state to remember ingredients but this is from my foggy memory. I also got a pick of the cool ice blocks that has an Agave inlay that they put in the tumbler with your drink. I will definitely be going back for their wide Mescal and tequila options. I didn't see food in the bar, but they have a food truck out front that smelled amazing, but sometimes I simply dont want to eat when there are plenty of drinks to be had. They do have Esquites, Tacos, Quesadillas, Mini Chimis, and loaded fries. I will have to do another review on the food when I am not out being a borracho. They do take reservations and host private parties which would make for one raucous Christmas party if you don't work at a Christ loving conservative company like me. You can also order bottles of mescal and pick it up on location which is pretty awesome as especially after trying out the selection. Happy hour is every weekday that they are open to try out some of their cocktails. This is a great option to impress your tinder date if you are a lush like me pr want to show of your sophisticated drinker side.

The sausage & broccolini pasta had good overall flavor with a decent kick of heat, though it leaned a little too heavy on the salt. The miso and lemon pepper wings were both fine, typical wings. My glass of wine tasted flat, so that was a bit of a letdown. Surprisingly though, the highlight drink of the night was my date's IPA. I don't even like IPAs, but it was genuinely delightful! Since the restaurant doesn't seem to have a designated lot, parking downtown can be a gamble. I got lucky and found a street meter for just $1.20/hour. However, my date ended up in the private lot directly behind the building and that was a $33 charge for 3 hours! Just a heads-up to think about about parking options ahead. Overall is was a decent date night experience.

I scored a free ticket; I can fly pretty cheaply thanks to my wife's flight benefits, so why not? Since I wasn't even sure I was going until a few days before, I hadn't RSVP'd for any of the usual conference dinners or after-hours events. My original plan was pretty simple. Hang out at the hotel, grab something at the bar, relax. Then the opportunity came up to have dinner with two good friends I hadn't seen in more than a year. Conference event? Or actual quality time with friends? Easy decision. We headed over to Industry Standard. One of my friends had wisely made a reservation online, which definitely helped. We were seated right away, although shortly after sitting down we learned they needed our table/section for a larger group. No biggie. We moved and carried on. Our server got drinks going quickly. I stuck with water, while one of my friends had the Pretty In Peach cocktail and gave it the thumbs-up. The menu looked really good. Two of us went with the Poke Bowl, while the odd woman out ordered the Caesar Salad with chicken. Sounds pretty basic, right? Apparently not. She said it was really, really good. She also ordered the Confit Tomatoes as an appetizer. Funny enough, those arrived a few minutes after our entrées because there was apparently a little confusion about whether they were an appetizer or part of someone's meal. Again, not a big deal. We were there to catch up, not run a stopwatch. As for my poke bowl, I'll admit I was slightly concerned about the portion size. Poke bowls can sometimes fall into that "small bowl, big price" category. Not here. It was a surprisingly large portion, very tasty, and had a nice little bit of spice to it. Definitely exceeded expectations. And because apparently dinner wasn't enough, we finished by sharing the cookie skillet with ice cream. Solid decision. Very good. Service throughout the night was excellent, although I unfortunately can't remember our server's name. Sorry, my dude. You did a great job! The restaurant itself is fairly small inside, although they do have outdoor seating. Of course, when it's roughly 110 degrees in Phoenix in August, eating outside isn't really my thing. So if you're planning to go and want to sit indoors, I'd definitely recommend making a reservation. Good food, great service, and even better company. In the end, skipping the big conference after-hours scene for a relaxed dinner with old friends was absolutely the right call.

My party and I had a reservation on a Saturday night at 9pm (when it's 13 people, what can you do). What kind of sucked though (and mainly why I'm deducting a star) is that we did wait an additional half hour to be seated after our reservation time. Our theory is that they didn't think the entire party would actually arrive, and they were not ready to accommodate us. To be fair, the restaurant IS on the smaller side, but there was 0 communication during that half hour on what was going on... which isn't really good for us either. We got the original set, and this somewhat confused me as well. The food was really good, and was definitely a restaurant that I'd go to for the experience, but for some reason some of the meats were doubled while others weren't. The double portions were really nice since our party was so large, we needed to split the food between 4 different grills (so each table got 2 grills each, feeding 6-7 people in total or 3-4 people per grill), but then we had to share the portions where we only got one serving. It wasn't bad, but to me, didn't make sense. The food was really good though; I didn't care too much about the soup, but the green sauce was SO good. Mixing a little with the soup was incredible. I thought the beef and pork were really good. I personally left the restaurant full, but many others in my party did not. I think it's a really good amount of food for 2 people, but when you push to 3+, you probably do not want to come hungry. Also--the live music at Pemberton next door is SO LOUD, you're going to be shouting at your table the entire night when you sit outside. I think I would come back if I wanted to show this place to someone who didn't live here, but it isn't on the top of my list for when I'm trying to eat out, but I will definitely consider this for special date night occasions. It is extremely expensive for what it is though. For $70+ you risk the chance of leaving not full which SUCKS.

The restroom was very clean. It reminds you of the bathrooms on the plane except it's much cleaner. The flight crew is always there for anything you need. Everyone was polite and friendly. The food and drinks were decent. I enjoyed the bagel and cheesecake. The chopsticks were perfect since it was a flight to Tokyo. The martini cart was cute. The martini packed a punch. Because it was my birthday they were extra sweet. They gave me a birthday shot and wrote on my napkin happy birthday. This was so thoughtful as it's the small things for me. They also announced it to the whole plane. The music was great and I enjoyed it. This is great for a one time adventure. So one and done for me. I would recommend doing it ONCE. It's good for a date, girls night out or celebrating a birthday. The boarding pass and carry on pin are cute examples of how they are trying to make it authentic. My only negative is...it felt a bit rushed.

I'm absolutely OBSESSED with this place!…read more We went here to celebrate my friend's 30th birthday, and it did not disappoint! I've never been to a bar/speakeasy that was so immersive from start to finish! The vibe was very 70s flight , funky, fun, and totally unique. They give you a boarding pass and a pin, and the flight we were on was from New York to Tokyo! You get a welcome drink with your ticket, along with some peanuts, which was such a nice touch. The welcome drink was light and refreshing, and the peanuts had a nice salty and spicy kick. The service was prompt and attentive, and the flight attendants had some great recommendations. You even experience turbulence during the experience, which really adds to the immersion. You honestly feel like you're on an actual plane! The drinks are themed around New York and Tokyo, so there's a nice variety to choose from. Overall, this was such a fun and unique experience. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a fun way to grab drinks with friends or even for a date!
