I like this Ross location. It's located within the Clayton Valley Shopping Center, so first of all, parking is always easy and plenty. Also typically this location doesn't get too super busy (but they do get a lot of customers, don't get me wrong, it's just never too overwhelmingly busy when we visit this Ross store), so our shopping experience has been quite nice at this location. I've been looking for a pot for my plant, and today I found a lot of good selections that I actually liked, which was awesome. (Although I did try a few months back, and they had practically no option - so I guess the products here could be a little seasonal, just FYI.) And I also got this cactus-shaped dog toy that I think my dog would totally love. read more

Shopping at the Ross Dress for Less at Ygnacio Valley Rd in Concord is consistently unpleasant and frustrating due to the attitudes of the management and staff. Living near by I was happy to see a Ross in our little shopping area; however, every time I have gone there I tell myself this is the last time. It is obvious the staff and management do not want to be there and do not want to provide customers with anything near courteous, professional service. They don't need to bark "next". We are standing right there and can see we are next. The lady standing at the exit that apparently doesn't speak English wants to see your receipt and items before you can exit even though she is feet away from the checker and watched you check out and pay for your items. The last time I was there there were several people waiting to exit. I asked what is up? Another customer said the doors won't open. I believe they shut off the power door to check everyone's receipts. Another trip to Ross they refused to let me push the shopping cart partly full of items to my car parked out front. I wonder how they can stay in business? I won't be back. I suggest going a little further down Clayton Rd. to TJ Max. Much more pleasant experience. Who doesn't love Ross? We come here often for some decorating ideas or items we can find for discounted prices like comforters for my daughter's bunk beds or shoes from their clearance section. It's about 50/50 whether you're going to find something that "does it" for you, but when you do find a gem or two, it is well worth the trip and search! Parking lot is huge, so that part is easy, and it's located in a shopping center with tons of other useful stores like the Dollar Tree, Round Table Pizza, Panera Bread, CVS. Ross can be a little disorganized and scattered so that's the one reason for 4 stars instead of 5. However, that tends to be the way when it comes to different Ross Stores, so it's not be necessarily worse off here vs other places. read more

A lot of items were broken or ripped out of the packaging, missing items etc. The cashier, Jane, was unbelievably rude when I asked for a gift receipt. I get she probably had a long day, it was closing, but she doesn't need to take it out on customers. When she needed to rescan something she saw the bag she gave me was torn open and handed it back to me. She reminded me that the cart stays inside and didn't offer me another bag that wasn't ripped, to carry my items outside. I had to ask a different cashier for another bag. Store closed before actual closing hours. I drove all the way from Danville. I begged her to let me in because there was one item I knew was there and I needed so badly for school for my little girl. She refused to let me in after driving that distance when the store should have been open! Frustrated would be an understatement. This is the nicest Ross i have ever been to! Super duper clean! It's so close to home that I've been coming here more than I should. I find the best bargains here for EVERYTHING mainly bakeware/cookware. Wow! Really gone downhill. I used to come all the time, but was turned off by the staff. It's probably been a year since my last visit, and Tonight was horrible. Everything was messy. But the worst part was the checkout. The whole tim I was in the store, the checkout lady was flirting with the security guards and gossiping about friends. Eh...Ross seems to have certainly gone down hill over the last few years. Perhaps, I may have just upped my standards over the years, but all in all, I think their items tend to just look cheaper and cheaper, especially their home decor options. I live closest to this particular location and frequent if from time to time, and not once, have I found anything that has appealed to me. It seems to me, that most of the home decor items are just about falling apart, or look like it will fall apart within months. I also think most of their clothes options look like something out of a thrift store ( not that I'm against thrift stores but) most of the clothes look like the colors are fading or its just made from the cheapest material...Maybe I'm just missing the good item boat that comes through, but I think I'm just not missing anything at all. Service I have to say, is pretty friendly for the most, and the store is decently well kept, but it certainly does not meet my expectations with any worthy, least bit quality items. read more

I am in this store at least twice a week. You have to frequent the store to get the good stuff before it's gone. This Ross has it's good and bad to note: The Good: Very clean, implemented a faster check out system, amazing prices on Calvin Klein/ Anne Klein/Jessica Simpson dresses, and incredible prices on home goods. They have been getting lots of good shabby chic home goods there - many for under $10. The Bad: Poor selection, bare shelves. If you come back to buy something you spotted earlier in the day, it is gone (this is especially true with their home goods). The Ugly: People, stop stealing from this store! Thanks to you, we honest shoppers have to stand and wait for the fitting room clerk to check all of our clothes for sensor tags prior to giving us a number before trying them on and then re-check the items before taking unwanted items and our number back! Oh, and what is up with customers opening up and sampling the cosmetic/bath and body items?! You are hard pressed to find a full bottle of lotion at Ross. They should just have the security guard stand in that aisle. Security has never followed me around the store like others have commented. In fact, I always thought it was weird that they just stand by the door greeting people. Shoplifting is a serious problem at Ross. One of the complaints I hear time and time again is the long wait for a cashier. I give management kudos for trying to address customer complaints on wait times by implementing a faster check out process. Ross has been doing a good job trying to coach customers (asking customers to remove clothes from hangers while in line, asking us to swipe our card once the first item has been entered) so they can cut down on customers' wait time, but sadly some people still don't seem to get it. All in all, this is a great Ross - far cleaner than the ones in Pleasant Hill, but with less inventory than Walnut Creek. If they could just get more inventory in home goods, I would give them a five-star rating. read more

I was in the area and remembered that I have seen hard anodized cookware at the Ross in Pleasant Hill and I needed a new 1.5 qt so I stopped in to this one. You have to be careful and make sure that the cookware you pick up doesn't have any scratches or anything, especially if it is non-stick. So...I found what I wanted. The store is a bit unorganized, but that is nothing new with Ross stores. The customer service/cashiers could use some training. There were four employees standing in the area doing various things but not one person acknowledged me or even looked me in the eye. Finally someone opened their register to help me and I was out of there soon after. read more

Bought Godiva caramels, they were not expired but they were definitely bad. I bought 2 bags and opened one. Instead of treating it as a health issue, it was more of a "you ate them and didn't like them" issue. If that was the case I wouldn't have left the entire bag with you to throw away. Due to my business I am in Ross stores almost daily. Buying a large quantity of items at any Ross is difficult....however the employees at this particular Ross are very! Unhelpful! Why is it that Ross stores never have paper to wrap fragile items???? Its been often the case that items will break in transit because of improper packing, then of course there is the cart situation......I have often had three cartful of unwrapped items that I need to get into the car...two items at a time. Sizes are easy to find, and they have a huge selection of shoes and purses- I only buy Nine West at Ross. I usually come to this location every now and then because they always have better things here and I've never had a problem with any of the employees or anything until today. Lucile who was a cashier at the time caught an attitude for no reason and her people skills were just terrible. I had asked her if it was possible to check for a price of a dress they had here because we couldn't find any other one to match the price and every time I tried explaining that to her she would cut me off, and the entire time she was just being rude. You guys need to check your employees and be sure that the have at least decent customer service because this lady sucked! read more

I know Ross isn't know for there customer service but for being a slow little store you think the people would be a little more courteous. They have no idea what it is to be in customer service which is what retail is based on. Barbara was very helpfully but she has no control over the supervisor. Ross poses itself as a affordable place for household items and clothing store. Relying on overstock and inventory mismanagement of other bigger stores as it's bread and butter. For myself who does not shop frequently (for hatred of it as a sport) it is a place I frequent when I am looking for a piece of clothing or household item where I'm not so concerned of its brand or designer quality but just need something quick. After frequenting Ross in general and from the impression of this store it seems like the variety and availability of the inventory just doesn't match the stores who fill this same niche. This has got to be the worst Ross ever. Yes, it's very clean, but its clean because they have so little merchandise! The home department has almost empty shelves, there clothes are on empty racks, the racks are set widely apart because they're so sparsely filled! I went for "Shoe Week" today and it was shocking how little they had, Its ridiculous! I usually like to shop at Ross bc they have selections where you're able to put together your own decor, they have a wide range selections of clothes/shoes/hand bags for men, women and children and parking is usually always a breeze at most locations. I have only been to this location once and it was an OK to Meh experience bc I've had better.. As I walked into this location, we weren't greeted but stared at by one of the employees. **OK, take a picture boo it lasts way longer** Grabbed a cart and went to look around and noticed how organized this place was. Items weren't on the floor being dragged on or stepped on which was a good thing. My main reason was to come here to find items to redo my bathroom bc as women we like to find things to do in the house, to make it feel homey and comfortable to our liking. But as I approached the area I noticed there wasn't much selections. Bathrug sets put together but nothing that you can pick out to be out together yourself **sad face** I honestly wanted to like this store but no bueno!! This Ross is pretty much like all the others that I've been in and shopped at. The women's selection seems much better than the men's. There are some household items but nothing that you really want though maybe something that you really need, your basics. The prices are pretty good but the brands are just average. read more

This one star is not specific to just this Ross location. It would still be one star for this location but all Ross stores have gone down hill. They used to have a much larger inventory in every department, and now it just looks sad and depressing because they have all this space but nothing to offer. I can go in and out of a Ross in less than 10 minutes and will have basically seen all that is to be offered. Ross has never been the greatest when compared to TJ Maxx but at least it was worthy of a trip inside. I no longer have any urges to enter any Ross location. read more

Clean, tons of deals, but some of the worst service I've experienced. I was there with my grandma, and we waited in a line of at least eight people, with one slow moving cashier, while several workers floated the grounds. I went back to the bathroom, which was disgustingly in need of being cleaned ( I had to pee on top of a backup of sludge. Not okay. ) and found two workers just hanging out, laughing it up in the pillow aisle. My grandmother complained to the woman who finally came to ring us up, and the worker just stared back, didn't apologize or anything. Not going back. read more

I have been looking for an auxiliary cable for my Mp3 for our Toyota for the longest time. We already have a cable, but it has not been working for the last couple of months. The Cable has the thickness of a Monster cable, but the sound fades in and out. The existing one we have does not plug in all the way, leaving the cord slipping out while we drive. The original cable cost us about $15.00 and I bought it from the Shack. I was in the Ross today looking for "Kicks", and I saw this Barbie' ques looking Vivitar Mp3 Portable speaker for an Ipod. I mean, it is literally Pink and Bubblegum Blue with Wavy lines. (Yes, I said Vivitar)The reason I bought the Speaker is that I saw the cable in the box and the speaker only cost about $6.98. What, I should I do? Buy the Bubblegum speaker, and have the cable; or have the current cable and not have constant music. I even asked the friendly Cashier about if it was the same cable I would need for the Car. She said that it looked okay, but she also bought hers at the Shack. Upon further review, Selena verified it was the right one and I now I am happily listening to my I Phone tunes while I am driving. Now all I have to do is ditch the speaker or find some spray paint to make it look more politically correct. read more

While I have not purchased anything at this particular location yet, I love that it is both close to my home and super clean. I imagine that since it is so new, shoppers have yet to work their destructive magic... and employees have yet to reach the levels of being jaded to transform this Ross into what we're all probably used to.
