I was shopping for some pop culture gifts and a friend suggested I check out BoxLunch, a store which I was not familiar. Checked out their website and found out they're an internet and brick and mortar specialty retailer of licensed and non-licensed merchandise of pop culture-themed apparel, accessories, home goods, gift and novelty, and collectibles. The large selection includes Sanrio, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Disney, Pixar, Anime, Marvel, Funko, horror and more. I found a hoodie from a pop star that would be a great gift and ordered it for online pickup. Though there are several stores in the area, this store had the small size in stock. After placing the order, I received the ordered to pickup was ready emails. I came in a week after the pickup email to the store, which was located in the lower level of the mall. Gave the clerk my name and she retrieved my order and processed my pickup. She said she was the one who put my order together. It was a quick, easy and friendly pickup process. A cool store with extensive selection of pop culture items. If I'm looking for more items in the future, I'll check out BoxLunch again. read more

I'm writing to formally express my disappointment with a very unpleasant experience at the BoxLunch location in Sunvalley Mall, Concord. During a recent visit with my sister and boyfriend, we were browsing the store when a young female employee approached us to ask if we needed assistance. We declined, letting her know we were just browsing. She then proceeded to ask if we were shopping for bags for ourselves. Again, we said no, at which point I replied, "It doesn't matter, we're just browsing." My boyfriend then asked her where the nearest restroom was, and she did assist him. However, as he walked away, she muttered to my sister and me, "Good luck, you're going to need it." We were completely caught off guard by this inappropriate and confusing comment. Her tone and attitude throughout the interaction were standoffish and rude. I take accountability that we too started to act frustrated, we understand her job is to sell us things but as customers if we decline help, employees should definitely take a step back and just let us browse the store. Already frustrated by her persistence after we had declined help, her unnecessary remark escalated the situation. We asked her to clarify what she meant and questioned her behavior, but she began avoiding us. When we told her we felt her customer service was unacceptable, she replied sarcastically with, "Yours too," which only added to our confusion and concern. Shockingly, she then called mall security on us, claiming we were being disruptive. This accusation was completely unfounded -- we were not loud, or aggressive. There were other customers nearby who could attest to this. When we asked to speak to a supervisor, she stated that she herself was the manager. If that is indeed true, her conduct is especially concerning. A manager should be held to a higher standard, and her behavior was anything but professional. She also refused to provide her name when asked, so I informed her I would be taking a photo of her in order to submit a formal complaint. She objected, claiming she was afraid of being posted online -- despite already appearing on the official sun valley BoxLunch Instagram account. So out of respect I won't upload the photo I took of her, but I did find her on the main page and her name is Hailey. This contradiction only added to the lack of accountability she displayed throughout the encounter. On top of that we were asking her to provide us with a phone number to higher management to call in a complaint and she gave us 2 non working numbers and at the end just gave us the general customer service number. I've always enjoyed shopping at BoxLunch, but this experience has completely changed my view. It is extremely disappointing to see someone in a managerial role act so unprofessionally and disrespectfully toward customers. I hope this matter is taken seriously and properly addressed by upper management. read more

My sister, her boyfriend and I entered this store because it truly is one of our favorite places to shop at. We were specifically looking at a Hello Kitty Loungefly backpack. We wanted to know the price so my sisters boyfriend brought the backpack down and checked for us. The employee, Hailey, asked us "are you looking for something specific?" My sister answered her by stating "no, we were just wondering what the price was for this backpack." Since we had figured it out then we didn't need more help. Of course, as any retail worker knows, it is important to sell products but ALSO make sure that the customer feels comfortable enough to browse around the store freely. Soon, she asked us AGAIN, "are you looking for something specific" to which my sister answered her by saying "no we are just browsing." Instead of accepting that answer, she was persistent and then asked us a THIRD TIME, "but are you looking for yourself or for someone else" by now, we were a little confused why it took three times for her to ask something we had already simply answered that we were browsing. My sister then answered her by saying "it doesn't matter because we are just browsing." If we were shopping for ourselves (which we weren't, just browsing as it was stated) then us saying that we were browsing should've been enough. By now, we were just confused and wanted to freely roam the store as we didn't have anything specific we were looking for. My sisters boyfriend had to use the restroom so he asked her where the nearest bathroom was located. She did direct him and he proceeded to leave the store. Maybe she was upset that we didn't answer her question the way she wanted us to and led her to say out loud "Good luck! You're gonna need it" Now, if you are confused by this response then imagine how we felt. I responded by saying "what do you mean by that?" As I was genuinely confused. She then started saying in a very rude and condescending way that she was just trying to be helpful. Okay, let's round it back. So she did feel some type of way about the way that our interaction happened. Never in my entire life have I encountered someone who got upset by a customer stating "we are just browsing" I thought that was a pretty common response to being asked if we need help. We then repeated that we did not need help we were simply just looking. Is that so wrong? Given her tone and attitude, I then simply stated "You know what, I feel like you just gave us pretty bad customer service" .... Her response? "You have very bad customer service too" what?? I didn't know that I was on the clock. Immediately, even more confused than before, I said "what do you mean by that? She never answered me. Instead, she proceed to call mall security and told them that we were being "disruptive." Excuse me? I didn't know asking a question to gain some clarity was disruption but to each their own. The entire time she was very condescending. I did start to record the situation for MY own protection. It's my right. Once she saw this, she immediately started saying that security was going to take a while and we should just go. We probably could've just left but we knew we had done nothing wrong so speaking to security was something we didn't mind. Security then came and guess what? She started playing the victim mentality card, big surprise. She started mentioning some personal things she was going through in her life. Which, sorry to her but don't we all have problems we are going through? I really wish some accountability would've been taken but there was no remorse. She had no idea some of the things we are going through because instead of making things super personal, she should've focused on the actual situation at hand. There was complete deflection from her side. She even lied to security and told them that she said the "Good luck, you're gonna need it comment" to my sisters boyfriend who had asked where the restroom was at. Like okay? Even if it was that context, why would anyone tell someone that in response to them asking where the bathroom is. Thankfully, my sisters boyfriend did confirm to us later that she did not say that to him so it was directed to us. Again, why? I guess we'll never know. She even mentioned she is a manager so that made her behavior even worse. She never should have made it personal. I wish she could've just apologized for her behavior but she never did. Out of respect, I will not be posting her picture. However, I want to make it very clear that she mentioned she could not have her picture posted online because of some personal issues she's dealing with. I called BoxLunch to see if they could put an item on hold for me and I was able to pick it up the next day. I had a previous gift card that was reimbursed for a cancelled online order. This ended up locking the balance of my gift card due to their system. Hailey was so kind to call customer service for me to resolve the issue. Her efforts did not go unnoticed. 3 calls later and being on hold for 20+ minutes, we were finally able to unlock my funds and use my balance for my purchase. Afterwards, we decided to do more shopping. Mariah rang us up and was so patient throughout our transaction, despite the complexity of our situation. The people that work here are friendly. They have a variety of bags, clothes, car window shades, toys and other item. They have cheaper items and pricier items. They have a pad where people can write and ask for merch from certain films and series that the store doesn't have anymore or doesn't have that people want. read more

Talk about Spencer's of the new millennium! I mean, if anything, this place can be considered like a newer version of Spencer's only a bit more expensive. I did however, find some of the latest and greatest of my favorite t.v. show merchandise here! Especially a variety of Rick and Morty swag to add to my collection. Move over Family Guy! First off, the staff at this location was totally helpful. Whatever I was into finding, someone was always around to point things out. Telling me what's on sale, and adding any promotional specials that they're currently having. You'll find everything from Star Wars, Harry Potter, Stranger Things, Marvel, DC, Funko, Disney, Game of Thrones, Guardians of the Galaxy, anime items, video game characters, and plenty of other cool novelty toys and collectibles. And although pricy, with every $10 that you spend here, BoxLunch will provide a meal to people in need at a local food bank. How sweet is that? Giving back to the community. I dig it here, and feel that if they can give back to help those in need, why not contribute. Like I said, kinda expensive, but I don't mind contributing. Got here 15 minutes before closing and the doors were locked. I had just got off work, hauled butt and grabbed my lady to go get a bag she wanted before they close. Get there to find out doors are locked and they won't let us in. We have jobs too, I can't close my business before our close time. I even spoke to an employee who opened the door to tell me they were closed and taking the last customers in side. I told her it's 6:49 you close at 7 and I literally just want to buy that one bag right there. She said sorry and closed the door. Horrible customer service. While visiting the Sun Valley Mall, this place immediately caught my eye as being my kind of store! Many popular Sci-fi and fantasy shows/movies were the main attraction here! As I wandered about browsing each and every piece of merchandise, I couldn't help but reminisce about my enjoyable vacation at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida! This store was like a condensed version of all the multiple shops I had checked out while there. They also had a variety of fun and jokester stuff that reminded me of the Spencer's Gift stores that is always a source of entertainment for most shoppers. I wasn't able to indulge in some collectible items on that day because we had to leave for a party and we were out of town anyway. Was very disappointed when I visited the sun valley mall location. Spent $150 and some of my items didn't even make it in the bag. Unfortunately because I paid cash I had to travel back across the bridge ($7toll) just to receive my merchandise as they would not ship them to me. Then realized I was overcharged, manager refused to refund me. Told me to contact customer service which was less then helpful. Still no refund. Then realized all my merchandise still had ink security tags still attached. Guess I will have to return just to use the things I purchased. This store needs a lot of customer service training, they do not honor online prices like other boxlunch locations do. They tend to talk to each other a lot instead of actually helping a customer, my overall experience at this location was horrible and I wouldn't return to this location again. read more

I hadn't realized there was a BoxLunch at the mall before (even though it was right across from the stores I had gone in before), and I went in to check it out because I know they have Funko POPs, and I enjoy collecting them. They had a lot of cool stuff in there, and although I didn't get any POPs, I was able to get an Avatar the Last Airbender Reusable Cup. And my mom got some scrunchies and a Harry Potter Oven Mitt. I enjoyed checking out this store and I plan on coming back to it next time I go to the mall. read more

Jay is an outstanding manager and she makes sure to always greet her customers and helps with whatever questions or needs I may have. This store is great for both clothing and collectibles, their inventory is very similar to the products you would find at a Hot Topic or Spencer's, just not as dark or perverse. Their main brand that they carry is Disney, every wall is flooded with some type of princess or popular character from the company, but as you search through their shelves, you will find other pop culture icons from different genres such as Rick and Morty, Scooby Doo, and Harry Potter. read more

This place has cool stuff but the customer service is horrible. Me and wife came here to get some Harry Potter stuff but they said they were closed for lunch come back in 30 mins. We were like cool no problem we will kill some time walking around the mall. We come back 45 mins later and a guy was just now walking in with bags of food. He said it's gonna be a minute. I came into the store just to window shop, but this really nice sales associate with poppin hair and cute braces told me all the deals and answered any question I had about the store. This review is for Jay and Jay alone. Jay went above and beyond for me today as there was a mishap with my order. I was told by the store manager that their policy was to call customers for an online order when it arrives to the shop or when it is the final day for order pick up. However I never received a call when my order arrived to the store nor when it was the final day they were going to hold it. The store manager told me that they called me both times and I told her that they didn't. Jay checked their call logs and behold, they did not call me but by then it was too late and my bag was sold to someone else. Jay worked with me for 45 mins to come to a solution and help me in my situation. Jay showed empathy and true customer service. Jay went above and beyond my expectations. Let's just say the tone of this store was instantly set as soon as I over heard a shorter lady with short hair talking down about younger generations to the much younger cashier (just talking in the most negative tone about anything in relation to the younger generations)-- not really a decent convo to walk in on, nor do I want to hear it. The young cashier with long hair was super bubbly and super attentive, while the short hair associate just seemed to want to talk crap. I mind my own business when I shop, but this associate just kept talking about stuff that no customer should hear. She kept mentioning that hot topics numbers were down, and how it wasn't even a wonder as to why their store is doing better. Like? I never really noticed this place until today and I would've just walked by it if it weren't for my dad. It was actually him who suggested that we take a look around in BoxLunch. They had all sorts of cute stuff but I decided on a Totoro shirt and a Gudetama stuffed animal. Pretty cool place however, this place is small, so there's not a lot of stuff.
