RIDICULOUSLY OVERPRICED. Convenient store in terms of location because it's in a strip mall, which…read moreis why I've shopped there. But their prices are astronomical and today did it for me. I won't shop there any more. A toy I bought there today for $45 costs between $19 (Target) and $23 (anywhere else). Double? They mark it up double? I've known I pay more for convenience but twice or more is over the top greed. I like supporting small businesses but not when they rip me off to that excess.

First I have to say that it's really a gift to have a small department store in Lafayette and…read moreMoraga to shop from. It's not enjoyable going to the mall or shopping areas these days. For this, i'd give 5 stars. The staff, in my experience is also a 5. They have always been courteous to me and I always find something to buy albeit not from the "older" section. Although back in the day, I could always find a pair of pantyhose for those corporate parties. As others have said, I like the selection of items. Great gifts for parties and the free gift wrapping make McCaulous a local favorite. Being retired now, I wanted to pick up some fun work and went in to apply for a job since their Hiring sign has been up for some time. Heck, if they hire young kids, why not me? It was clear that they had no interest in me from the moment they looked me in the eyes and had me complete their one page paper application on th spot. The manager that day looked briefly at my application and said the manager would call me back the following week. Well, I had to call three times before speaking with a manager. When I asked about my application , she said that she didn't think that they were hiring. Um, then why is the hiring sign still up. So, there are big problems here. 1. Why do you need my address? and 2. Why do you need to know how long I have lived there? As I mentioned these areas to the manager, I explained that these questions lead to bias. She seemed to understand and said she would share my concerns. I stated that my intent is not to cause a problem. My intent is only to share my perspective and advice and hope that there would be change. She let me know that Mr. McCaulou has been running the business for over 40 years. I said that it shows. Practices have changed you know. Next time you are shopping here please look around at the staff. I'm a 60 yo Asian woman who just wants to work, and even weekends but I don't fit their criteria obviously. I'll still shop here about once or twice a year but will always be disappointed that they are not inclusive and have a bias that hopefully is unconscious. If management is reading this review, please look at how you are hiring and come out of the 60's in your HR practices.

I purchased some perfume but ended up going back the next day to buy another after I ended up loving one I had tested and it was an experience I will not forget. We were on the way to drop off our oldest at College which though exciting- is a tough time for parents! The lady who helped me - Ruth - was amazing and could see I was a bit emotional; and told me if we ever needed anything, being so far away, to know that she was there as she knows exactly what it is like! It was just such an amazing gesture and lovely to know there are people like Ruth in their world. I will continue to shop here, especially that we will be back in the area so often and just want to thank the store and Ruth in particular, for an amazing experience

I was actually very interested in a fairly inexpensive piece of jewelry, but I just cannot support stores that have no kind of customer service ethic or are not welcoming in any way? Its actually kind of awkward to be the only person in the store and you're ignored. Just feedback for the owner if they are interested. I would love to shop local as well to be clear, I am always forced back to big stores because I am actually welcomed and asked if I need help.

It's beyond messy and hard to look around. They should definitely have a couple more people to help out with organizing the store and making sure things aren't all over the floor. I know it's a busy time and it's hard to keep up but the Pleasanton Zara seems a lot easier to shop at and a little bit "cleaner".

After standing in a long line to the cashier, I asked the lady cashier for a stock check because the shirt I got had loose threads and no other size on the rack. She found one and they need to get it from the stockroom, which would take additional 5-10min. She gave me instructions to pick up the item at the front of the store, on the Collections rack. I thought I could purchase the shirt and wait for it at the front...but no she sent me away. (I didn't understand why I had to leave the cashier after waiting in a long line, pick up the item I was trying to purchase at the front door area, then go back to the cashier again to purchase the item. What a weird process! Never experienced this with other stores.) I had to reiterate, that I just lined up for 10min and I don't want to have to line up AGAIN. She said, "no, you don't line up again. Just go to the side(front of cashier), and WE'LL take you IN FRONT of the line." Ok, I thought that was fair. I left and waited another 5min-10min for the replacement shirt. Walked back to the side of the cashier, front of the line. There was a different cashier, 1 person in line for purchase, and 1 person to the right at Return/Exchange line. The Cashier didn't acknowledge me when he saw me(like "do you have any question, or I'll be right with you.."). When he finished with a customer, I approached the cashier, explained that I picked up the item from stock and I was told to come back to the front of the line. Then he told me with an attitude that,"you just got here and I need to help the person in line." I further explained that I was at the cashier earlier, but was told to leave to pick up the stock and return to the front of the line. He said, with an eye roll, "well, I didn't tell you that." So I stood in line again, and waited for the 3rd time! When he finished with the customer, he wouldn't assist me, and called the other person in line for returns, avoiding me. So I stepped closer again to the cashier, asking for assistance. He moved away from me to use the other cash register, took the other customer, and told me why he wouldn't assist me, "I don't like your attitude." I was surprised..and I answered back, "you don't need to like my attitude, but you guys should know how to follow your "OWN PROCESS AND PROCEDURES." (It's ashamed that you employ a person who can't deliver professional service, who needs more training to follow Zara's OWN process!!!) Maybe if I was instructed to go back in line after waiting for the replacement stock, I would've decided then if: 1-it was worth the wait to go back in line again 2-additional wait time for a replacement stock 3-or purchase the shirt I originally lined up for, but live with the poor quality of loose threads on the seams and collar. I would've went back in line, in peace, and not be harassed by your own employee. No wonder, you guys have 1.5stars on YELP! It's embarrassing. If more customers shopped online, you're jeopardizing the dying practice of professional customer service, and corporate could close down the store, and jobs would be on the line. I'm in customer service so I know how it is to properly treat a paying customer.
