I always seem to find those hard to find gifts every time I go here. I have a difficult time finding the "right" gift for wifey and other people when a bottle Adult beverage doesn't do it. They have a lot of outdoor wear and gear for people who are outdoor explorers and hikers. What I like is that they have all the Pantagonia and hiking brands as well as our wear and accessories. I like that have the brand Vejas and other popular shoes and clothing. Belts and outerwear as well as sweatshirts and tee shirts. It has a friendly staff who are helpful and it is not cheap, but you can see it is a higher quality products and a lot of diversity of brands, Check out if your in a bind and have a friend who likes outdoor gear and you need to find that "perfect " gift. read more

I grew up in Lafayette and my parents just live around the corner from this store. My mom shops here regularly and bought a few things for my husband at xmas. I went into return them today with a receipt. I was told it would need to be store credit -- no problem. Shopped around and came up with an armful of clothes that were probably double what the return would have been, and the EXTREMELY rude manager says that I'm unable to return anything cause it's past January 20. I explained that my mom bought it, and I don't live in Lafayette, so only just getting there now. She could not have been more unhelpful and rude. I gave up, and then asked if they'd just change the size of the exact item, and still no. So, not only did they loose a sale that would have likely been double the return, but they also created an upset customer and another regular, local customer that will never return. Very short sighted customer service. And, all done with a very flippant, very arrogant attitude. Bummer. *Your response perfectly illustrates your attitude about customer service. I adore this store. It's a great spot for clothing for both men and women. Lots of brands you know and love (Vuori, Patagonia, Barefoot Dreams).l, as well as some less well-known brands. The store is also fantastic for birthday gifts, housewarming gifts, pretty much any occasion. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Tried to exchange a gift for the correct size. The "manager" (a 20 something young lady) said it was not within 30 days- even though the items were still in stock on the shelf. She suggested I donate $200+ outfit. Obviously no customer service or care. Ridiculous. Update to reply from business owner: Obviously you feel entitled as a small business owner to make these rules- with no caring for customers or working with them. I am part of a family owned business (in business for 40 years), and would never treat customers like this. This was a simple exchange of what you already had in stock. A small for an extra small. The items were not seasonal - they still had the tags on them. I had other things I was going to purchase. What was the loss to you? Nothing. Just a hard nose rule. So, shopped with friends the Friday before Christmas and loved this store. They were packed and doing a great business. When the check out line was all the way to the door they got all hands on deck. Great customer service (or so I thought). I bought a pair of OluKai tennis shoes that are sooo comfy. They were a gift, opened Xmas morning and have been worn 2 times. When I put them on this morning I noticed that the gold color on the tongue of the shoe was flaking off. I was shocked since these are very expensive shoes and I have never had an issue with this brand, of which I and my family have numerous pairs of. Sadly, I couldn't find the receipt. Totally my fault for not having the receipt. I get that small businesses have receipt rules. I did call the store to see if there was anything I could do about returning the shoes because of the defect and was told no, which I had figured would be the case. What I didn't figure is that they would not let me exchange a defective product for another pair of the same shoes. I spoke with a young man who was very kind and he inquired with the manager about what could be done. The answer was that there was nothing that could be done without the receipt. I asked to speak with the manager who was not kind and said that without the receipt nothing could be done and that was the answer to my problem. It didn't matter that I had the box, all tags and the bar code for scanning the item still on the box. So, I asked if the manager couldn't speak to the vendor since the shoe was defective and again I was told no, the vendor won't do anything. I said I would call the vendor and share the story, he said that was a great idea and he hung up. I called OluKai and spoke with Fiona who was wonderful. I explained the situation and that I didn't have the receipt. I was told that they would have worked with the vendor, the shoes are warrantied for 1 year, even without a receipt and it didn't matter that I had not bought the shoes directly from OluKai. OluKai asked for the name of the vendor which I happily provided. OluKai is working with me to replace the shoes. Sadly, I will not be doing business with Venture Quality Goods and won't recommend them, not because of their receipt policy, but because of their manager and his inability to problem solve. The least he could have done was give me the OluKai customer service number, let me know that the shoes are warrantied for 1 year (even without a receipt) and assure me that having the shoes replaced by the manufacturer would not be a problem. Instead their policy is to not help out a customer who has a defective product. Now, I will await an inappropriate answer from the owner, who instead of taking responsibility for his managers unprofessional behavior will somehow find a way to blame me. read more

TERRIBLE customer service. Ironically this store is called "Quality Goods" but should be called "Lack of Quality Goods". When it was pointed out that a shirt was damaged and the stitching had become loose in multiple areas, the store took no action and left the damaged shirt on the floor for future sale! I liked the shirt and inquired if there was another undamaged one I could purchase--one employee offered to check to find another shirt for me but never followed up. I asked if there could be any flexibility to return the item if it frayed and the girls at the counter were not "authorized" to make any decisions and had to check with owner/manager who apparently refused to make any concessions. Instead, they left the shirt on the floor and when I returned later, it was still there, waiting for someone else to purchase the damaged item. The store is tended to by young employees, one of whom tried to be helpful but had no authority, another who acted like she was being put out by talking to her at all. She clearly did not care if the item was damaged or if a sale was made. She just didn't want to be bothered at . For a family owned business, there is NO care for the customers at this store. The manager never bothered to speak to me personally, instead delivering the message to the apathetic, bored looking teenager at the counter. Do you really want uninterested, rude employees representing your business? This is the reason why brick and mortar businesses are losing customers!! I really want to support local businesses but it's really hard when the employees and the owner make you wish you never walked in to the store. I'm really not sure why the owner owns a small business when he has such contempt and disregard for his customers. Beware of the quality of items at this store. I was just wandering around downtown Lafayette after having a lovely lunch at nearby Social Bird, and came across this cute local boutique. I wasn't expecting to find something like this in this part of town, so I was intrigued to check it out. After noticing a display case full of Patagonia merchandise, I assumed it was some type of outdoor goods shop, but lo and behold, Venture is more of a clothing store with an adventure theme. You will find the aforementioned Patagonia gear, but also minimalist men's wallets, rugged, yet modern jackets, stylish button up shirts, and trendy athleisure pants, among other items. The most iconic collection is undoubtedly the stash of trucker hats bearing random city names, local and beyond. Many of these are quite hilarious, as they are non-descript Bay Area suburbs, such as Walnut Creek, Martinez, and Antioch. My personal favorite has got to be Pacifica, with the pseudo Taco Bell logo. Unfortunately, there is no Stack City (bka Hayward) to be found. Typically, I would expect an independent store like this to have marked up pricing, but for the various items I crosschecked online, everything is quite reasonable. The aforementioned trucker hats run for a cool $38. Service is also quite friendly, as the associates on my visit were chatty and personable. Of course, it was not particularly busy that day, so perhaps they were just bored, but at least they certainly didn't just blow me off like many workers do at other businesses of a similar ilk. While I wouldn't say that Lafayette is a frequent stop of mine, now that I know there are charming shops like Venture, along with the amazing dining establishments, I might have to keep it on my radar. read more

Really sad to say we will not be doing business here anymore. I have been a customer since day one, and have spent alot of money in Venture over the years buying clothes for myself, my wife, and gifts for people. My wife bought a shirt here that shrunk up so bad that I couldn't even put it on after washing it. We washed the shirt in cold, on delicate setting as it's cotton. We used delicate, low temp dryer setting as well. I'd say the size large went from a large, to a snug medium. We were not offered a return, exchange or even store credit, but told to take it up with the manufacturer. I guess longtime customers don't matter. So we'll have to wait until after the holidays to try and get this resolved. My wife is pretty bummed as this was one of the Christmas gifts she was pretty excited about giving me. Perhaps going forward, Venture should tell customers that all purchases are final. I also want to note that we had a gift reciept, and are well within the return/exchange window. I have read Venture's responses to reviews covering return issues, and yes, we did take the time to consider the fit. It fit great before we laundered it, then it didn't fit at all. I have worn Patagonia brand for decades, and have several Patagonia Fjord shirts. This is my first Patagonia fjord shirt/jacket. I laundered this the same way as i have my other Patagonia shirts, which never shrunk like this one did. Someone stated while on the phone "the shirts are pre-shrunk". UPDATE: Owner messages me stating his peace, this is how he responds to my explanation of my frustration. "FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS". Lol. Yes, this guy sells $200 backpacks for living! Ironic? He doesn't realize the bad news coming his way. Yikes! Update 2: HOLY SMOKES: 3 months later and this owner is still blowing me up in the DM's. What kind of person is this? I enjoy Ventures selection of goods (really love the expansion to the new space!) and their costumer service is always wonderful. During Covid, the owner literally delivered my purchase to my door. Free of charge. The other day I needed a birthday gift and stopped in on my way home from work, unfortunately only five minutes to closing. It took me a little time to pick out a few things and pay, but they didn't rush me and even offered gift wrap for me. I really believe in 'shop local' and Venture is a great go to. read more

I love that this is close and local... love the quality and selection. I usually buy gifts for people here and they have a horrible return policy, so if I buy the gift a week before somebody's birthday, they literally only have a week to return. Both my Dad and brother-in-law couldn't exchange for a different size because it was a couple days past the 2 week mark and they couldn't wear the $200+ gift I purchased for them. I'm all for supporting local, but I was in here the other day to buy a Fathers Day gift and I was behind a man who was trying to return something with the receipt and he was 1 day past the 2 weeks and they wouldn't honor his exchange/return... it got me thinking I should warn people about this since I've been burned. Best men's clothing store in Lamorinda, in my experience. The variety at any one time is good, but not endless. Good news is they regularly turn it over and have new stuff every month. Prices are very reasonable and they usually have a bunch of nicely discounted sale items. Items from Patagonia, Kuhl, AG, Arcteryx, and lots of Barbour stuff for men. I'm not much of a clothes shopper, but I'd say the look and style is not too aggressive or fashion fwd. Not sure about the brands for women. Definitely skews toward men's. read more

I can't believe the negative reviews on here about Venture. I guess it's inspired me to share my own thoughts. For those of you who don't understand a return policy, all stores have them. Each store has the right to create a return policy and follow them through, if they made an exception each time then why bother printing it on the receipt or posting it in the store or on the website. The best you can do is to ask nicely and accept the outcome regardless with a smile. If you don't like your gifts purchased by your friends that's for sure a 1st world problem. If your friend included the receipt it's because it has the return policy on it. If they didn't then they didn't intend for you to be rude enough to return your $200 backpack. How lucky a friend spent that on you. If someone bought me a Patagonia backpack as a gift I would love it. If I wanted to exchange it for another color I would read the return/exchange policy. I too am a small business owner. I have a two week policy to fix or edit haircuts, at the very least I expect my clients to let me know within that time frame If something was wrong so that I could arrange to fix it, and I would be appalled if someone asked me 6-8 weeks later to fix my work. Venture quality goods is a tiny little men's (and women's) wear and goods store with incredible brands curated by the owner and his family/staff. I've never been mistreated or ignored. I've only been received with a smile and given the best service here. This is an independent retailer, not a chain. Lafayette is a very small town with many shops and restaurants, This is the only menswear store at all in Lafayette that I know of. If I wanted a return policy I would shop at Nordstrom's or Costco or REI, but if I want to shop and support and buy local I would shop somewhere like Venture Quality goods. I'm sure in this time we could all shop online and shelter in place because of Covid but I like driving out of my way to shop at Venture because the people behind the counter are always nice and generous and they are trying to keep their business alive so they can be open for us after the pandemic passes. Remember everyone before you write a nasty baseless review hurting another small business the last thing we want after Covid-19 is a bunch of shuttered and empty retail windows. Wow. And to think I was the only one who had a problem with their return policies. I bought several items and came in a few days later with the gift receipt AND the credit card I purchased it with, but they wouldn't credit me. Said I had to have the exact sales receipt, so if I lose that one paper slip I am toast. I said I have the exact card and they could look it up by date and time but she said, "That's the policy." Came back a few days later with the actual receipt and returned successfully, but I had enough time to reconsider the $158 (!) corduroys tried on on Xmas day and decided to return but the tag was removed and there was a single mark so small it could have been there when I bought it. But the tag removal was sufficient to reject the return. Again, "That's the policy." Just because you have a policy that you can point to doesn't make it reasonable if it it's different from most stores. You can get away with it, but you lose customers like me and the others below. So consumers beware, your overpriced items may not be as returnable as you think. The fact that you would actually text a previous client "1st world problems" speaks volumes of your contempt for your customers. 'The customer is always right' is a saying for a reason, but if you insist on treating your affluent clientele as if they are inherently dishonest, you won't be in business for long. I want to like this place. Looks like they carry some quality brands and it's somewhat unique in Lafayette. However, I've stopped by to look on a few occasions and the customer service is non-existent. Each time the person working didn't acknowledge me (and it wasn't busy). I live in Lafayette, and it's a wonderful, friendly community, but this place seem to be indifferent, which is unfortunate. I shopped at Venture Goods for the first time a few weeks ago. I loved the charm of the store and the type of clothing and goods they offered. I purchased the cutest Camo cargo Capri pants that I get compliments on every time I wear them. I was impressed with all the staff. They were eager to offer assistance and help me find the right size. This is also a great store to find gifts for family and friends. They have cute masks that are washable. I rarely use yelp to review a business. I have been a good customer of this shop since its inception. I received numerous gifts from family members who removed the venture sticker with price tag and did not include a gift receipt and I was told that I could not exchange any of the items I brought. Owner referenced the print below a sample recepit that states one can not remove any portion of venture sticker or tag in order to be able to exchange. Policy- I guess I can understand but they way i was made to feel as if I were taking advantage of some situation was ridiculous. Be aware of their return policies as referenced on other reviews. All of these items can be purchased on line, the only reason I go into the shop is to support local retail and for customer service. Around Christmas I bought several gifts and asked for them to be wrapped - they've always done gift wrap for me in the past. She just rolled her eyes and gave me boxes and ribbon to take home. This is an amazing store! I'm a person that likes quality clothing and they carry quality clothing. They offer a great selection of known brands (Patagonia, AG Jeans, and Marmot) and startup brands (Blade and Blue and Johnnie-O). I was pleasantly surprised a few months ago when my husband and I were driving through Lafayette and saw a new men's clothing store. We went into the store and were pleasantly surprised by the stylish and well made clothes, produced by many local designers at decent prices. This is not a store with racks and rack of $175 shirts! After trying on several items and taking some suggestions for some new styles from Rosylyn, we walked out with several bags of clothes. My husband found a coat he loved but they didn't have the the size he needed. Rosylyn was quick to let us know that she could order one in his size and she would call when it arrived It did arrive and it's his favorite new jacket! I picked up a few goodies for my hubby for VD and he loved them. I highly encourage you to stop by and check out this local business.
