They don't even deserve the 1 star but.... I came in on 11/19 at around 4:30pm to return 4 T-shirts I purchased from express.com for my husband. The girl that helped me seemed like she was new (which is completely fine). She asked for my phone # as well as my order # but was not able to pull up the order. The other cashier over heard her asking for my order # and came over to let her know she won't be able to pull up with that and needs either phone # or card that it was purchased with. I provided both. He was having a hard time pulling it up and eventually took over the transaction. Prior to coming in, I went to look up the return policy because I had those shirts ordered in September and of course it took my husband a month and a half to try them on. Anyways, I knew the return policy is 60 days. The clerk helping me tried to tell me that since he's not able to pull up my order, there's nothing he can do since I don't have my receipt. I showed him the email that was sent with my order conformation as well as the order # and he said he needed the slip that was in the box when items were shipped and the email is not good enough. Mind you, he wouldn't even look at the email that I received. I asked to speak to the manager because this is absolutely absurd, he said he was the manager (ha!) He was completely condescending, arrogant, snarky, INCOMPETENT, and overall unprofessional. He couldn't even make eye contact when talking and would just look away when he tried to make his snarky comments (about how I don't have a receipt even though I was showing him my email receipt.) After letting him know that I know the return policy is 60 days as stated on their website, he tried to offer me store credit only since he was not able to pull up my order for how much the shirts currently cost! I told him store credit wasn't good enough because It's not like I'm returning items without a receipt!!! (Someone please explain to me since when is a digital receipt not good enough when shopping online!!) Anyways, I asked him how much I would be getting back for each item and he said $24. Here's why he's so incompetent at doing his job.... If he actually took a look at my email with the receipt... he would know that I only paid $17.47 for each shirt. So let me get this right... since I supposedly don't have a receipt, the best you can do for me is a store credit for what the items currently are but you want to give me more than I actually spent on each item?! Haha I can't believe this guy is a manager. They must be in desperate needs to allow someone like that to manage a store Anyways, I had just about had it with this guy and his attitude so I grabbed my items to either drive out to Pleasanton or just call customer service and ship the items back. When I got home, I called the 1-800 number and guess what?! Based off my phone number, the automated system pulled up my order. What do you know! This "manager" needs to be demoted to customer. I love Express and the staff at this location are very helpful and pleasant each time I visit the store. However, the air conditioner has been broken for months (I can attest since at least October of 2016)! This is completely unacceptable for the customers and staff to endure! The store gets very warm inside with all of the bright lights. The lack of air creates an unenjoyable shopping experience, and I'm sure, an uncomfortable working environment for the staff. I spoke with the manager who said corporate is aware and has done nothing so far! Corporate needs to hear and see this! I'll try giving them a call as well. I used to work in retail and know that when you are working hard and trying to please others, the last thing you need is to suffer from heat exhaustion! read more

Mahogany is such a doll! When you come shopping here I hope you are blessed with her service She is incredibly friendly, helpful, knowledgeable about the product and clearly cares about her customers. I'd hire her to come work with me! My boyfriend and I finally went shopping as things are starting to open up, and he consistently kept asking her questions and saying "Excuse me, I have a question, we have lots of questions"! I felt so bad that he kept interrupting her She was so graceful and patient and proceeded to assist with what we needed, plus she kept a smile on the whole time! She was also really good about letting the people in line know "we'll be right with you". Her energy was bright and she definitely lights up that store. Her customer service skills should not go unnoticed, she is truly a gem and that store is lucky to have her. I worked in retail for years before switching to my current role and what she is able to provide is rare. I hope upper management sees this and recognizes her nicely. 5 STARS FOR SERVICE. Holy guacamole, I am not the type to gush - but the young Philipino guy (I should have asked his name) went above and beyond to assist me in satisfying my notorious penchant for suits - as well as reducing my 1K+ bill to just under 500$. PROMOTE HIM. Let me start by saying that this location lacks immensely when it comes to menswear. Less than a quarter of the store was dedicated to it, and there were only a few suits on display. As far as prices go, it's an Express - expect to pay a premium for the brand association and higher quality. However, I will say that you can find dress shirts here in vivid colors that you can't find anywhere else. I ended up buying two Photographer series suits + pants, a pair of dress shoes, two dress shirts, two belts, and sunglasses. My associate helped me find the right sizes, explained the various discounts and how they could be paired, and even advised me to conduct multiple transactions to save more. He also placed an order at Stoneridge for one of my suit jackets (they didn't have my size) and made it easy to do an equal exchange. Very friendly, patient, and great guy to work with. I'll be back to use my Express points and give dude a high five! read more

This was all unexpected and the time to return them had passed -- I couldn't make it in store because I've been recovering from a transplant surgery. I've been two times at the sun valley mall trying to go to express store with no success. The first disappointment is their ours. They open at 12:00 noon, while everyone else opens at 11:00am. The second disappointment is that they close the store to get lunch. It was 2:45pm and it had a note saying "we'll be back at 3:30pm" WOW! I cannot wait almost 1hr AGAIN. This review is solely for the lack of customer service. I walked in to see most of the store was 50% off. As I started to browse and pick up items to try on, I saw many sales associates on the floor. Not one acknowledged me or asked if I needed any help. As I proceeded to the back of the store to try on my items, I noticed a lady helping a man. I stood at the dressing rooms waiting for her to get back so I can try on the clothes. She walked up, said nothing and opened a dressing room. The guy saw I was standing there and asked the girl, "Is it for me?" And she just said, " it doesn't matter." The guy looked confused, and just told me to go ahead since he saw me waiting. The girl never said anything to me and walked off. I ended up liking a few items, so I waited in line to purchase. Waiting to pay, I got to the lady at the register. She also did not say hello, if I found everything ok and was not friendly at all. As she started to ring up my items she started asking me if wanted to be on their mailing list. At this point I'm annoyed and wanted to just pay for my stuff and leave. I just nodded, no. As a customer, someone who is spending money wants to feel acknowledged when they walk into a store. I would give this store less than one star if I could. The customer service here is horrible! Employees are so rude, and socialize with each other instead of helping the customers in the store. All they do is say no instead of finding a solution to help you. It's 2 days after Christmas and we wanted to exchange our gifts. Unfortunately, we could not find anything as they are sold through from the holidays. We did not have a receipt as my 80 year old grandmother purchased the gift, the manager refused to give out merchandise credit to shop at a later. I had to do a return at my local Express store, because an item that I ordered online arrived damaged, so I came to this Concord location. I had bought a copper serving tray online, because it was an online only item. I was getting ready to gift wrap this to give it to my mother, but when I flipped the tray over, there was a large scratch running along the bottom of the tray. I told my mother what happened, and she said it would be fine for me to go to the local store and buy her substitute gifts that would cost around what the tray cost. The tray was close to $50.00, and the manager at Express gave me suggestions on what to buy to add up to $50. For my mom's replacement gifts, I ended up getting two bottles of body spray, a tube of pink lip gloss, and a studded belt in Small. My mom loves body spray, lip gloss, and belts, so these were safe choices. I only owed about $4 after exchanging the copper tray for these items. I had never been to a physical Express store until now, because I always did my shopping at Express.com. Management was helpful and had a positive attitude. The associates on the sales floor did not interact with shoppers. The store was organized, but they were low on inventory for many items. I had wanted to get Mom some tops, but the Small sizes were gone. And I could only find one belt in Small. I would definitely shop here again for Mom, because she was happy with the items that I gave her from this store. read more

Took my daughter here to find some basic black dress pants. Since she's never shopped here we didn't know what size she would need. We grabbed a couple styles for her to try on in 2 different sizes. Upon walking to the fitting room we see it blocked off with a rolling rack of clothes. I went to the cashier and asked if we could try on the pants. He reply's so rudely and said "no our fitting room is closed" I say we'll she needs to try on pants so we know what size to buy. He reply's "you can buy it all and go to Macy's to use the fitting room there and bring back what you don't want for a return" I stood there in shock for a second before replying "omg that's seriously so tacky you just told me to spend $500 on all this and go to Macy's to use their fitting room then walk what I don't want back over here for a return?! Wow no wonder why retail is dying" apparently he was the manager. This store clearly needs help from corporate if they want to stay afloat and retain customers. People coming in to shop want to try clothes on and purchase what they like and be on their way. They want a pleasant shopping experience. Not some rude manager who with the whatever go somewhere else for that service then waste your time coming back to return stuff kinda attitude. The store layout is fine here, it's the staff that I cannot stand. Express is NOT a cheap store and I buy all of my work clothes here. When you walk in the staff hardly acknowledges you. They are always rude when I need help, or dealing with checking out. I brought in an online pair of pants that I wanted to return-- but didn't have the shipping receipt. I was passed on to three different people-- one of which I assume was in management. They couldn't find the transaction on my card and said it must've been over 90 days. It was purchased in August. They could only do an exchange- no store credit, no refund onto my EXPRESS card. They turned me away and they were RUDE about it. I pulled the purchase up on my phone and verified, it was just purchased on 8/30. I am sending a letter to corporate and will never return to this store as they made me feel like a thief. Note for the girls working there:: You are working here, not shopping. Don't look down on other women and don't act like you're better. Express in general is one of my favorite stores and also one of my boyfriends! On Monday July 1, around 7pm, he was trying to buy this jacket. He asked the sales associate for assistance because he could not find his size on the floor. The sales associate did look up the jacket and saw that they had it in stock and he was told by the associate that they "had 2 in stock" and they "would look in the back because it maybe in the box still". The associate did look in the back and came out saying that she couldn't find it. She then approached the manager saying that the inventory said that they had 2 in stock and that she couldn't find it in the back, so the manager said to tell my boyfriend that they could not find it. Just like that. I mean, I get it. But it would have been nice if the manager tried to assist the sales associate find the jacket or make some kind of effort to help. I could see if the manager was too buys to help because she was orienting a new employee but still. She didn't make a real effort to help my boyfriend or the sales associate after the sales associate also requested for help. My boyfriend and I worked customer service and just seeing how the manager wasn't even interested in helping is upsetting. read more

I'm kind of sad to see that this store has such a low rating - then again most people only write reviews to write bad reviews. With that being said - I'm writing a GREAT review... The customer service at this store is FABULOUS! I went in there one day after work looking for new suits. I had just come from across the mall (Macy's) and found nothing so I was already pretty sad because shopping for women's suits seems to be a nightmare for me. I'm tall and in between sizes because of my weight loss/working out/getting healthy. I don't remember names but a total of three AWESOME associates helped me that day. A gentleman and two ladies. ALL were super customer service oriented and upsold me and were super awesome about informing me of what was on sale and what is always in stalk as far as the regular colors versus the seasonal colors and that if I were to need a smaller size that I could always return the product in 60 days, which is great because that saves me money! Although I only bought one suit that day I will be back for more, I will buy the pants to the skirt suit and I will go back there because the people that work there made me feel wanted. Express always has great sales and paying under $200.00 for a suite set is pretty reasonable compared to the competition. I like the quality of the material and the way that they are made. I typically don't shop at Express and since I live in Walnut Creek, I rarely make it to the Sun Valley Mall. I visited last week for some Christmas gifts and found that Priscilla, the sales associate who helped me, to be very helpful. She was knowledgeable about their offerings, was current on all the latest trends, and made some great suggestions for things that a college student would love. I was very pleased with the overall experience. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes and had three people crossed off my life even though I was originally in there for one person! This store usually doesn't get great reviews but I wanted to share my positive experience because companies/stores are only as good as their employees, and Priscilla is a great one. I have to disagree with the other two reviews. Retail is a difficult job because you as a sales person have to deal with non sense attacks from customers as well. Needless to say, I've always had excellent service at the Concord Express. The Store Manager and staff is always helpful and would extend their assistance beyond. Manager on duty extremely condescending and very unprofessional. Back to school shopping with my daughter who found the pair of jeans we'd been looking for however they were $88 a kind associate working nearby overheard our discussion about $88 jeans and our budget. She kindly suggested we make the purchase online as the same Jean was $40. She also mentioned we could go to the cash register with an online coupon and make an in store purchase. Just as I was standing in line pulling up the coupon for the purchase, another associate was just hanging up the phone and begun helping me, this manager comes from no where interrupts the exchange and says to the associate "you're off I'll handle this sale" the manager than begins to explain the in store price was the in store price and what the associates had told me was not true. I said ok then we don't want them! The manager said let me finish, I let her finish,she agreed to honor the deal however, as a consumer in all my 40 years of being a mall rat I have never been talked to like that by anyone that was receiving money from me! If i could give 0 stars i would. I never write reviews but I thought I had to this time. I went in there on New Years Day, just casually shopping. After browsing for a bit, I had a few items I wanted to try on. There was NO ONE around to help get a fitting room, I had to wait about 10 minutes to get a room. Then, I stood in line for another 10 minutes to pay for some items, and I asked about the price of a sale top I was purchasing. The employee didn't understand my question that the sale item was additional 30% off, the tag said 23.99, and the price I was being charged was 20.99, clearly not 30% off of 23.99. So after looking at the receipt, I asked another employee to help explain, he said the tag was wrong and it was actually 29.99, but he would ask his manager to see if they can adjust. The manager, who did not give her name, said she would price adjust it for me, BUT, i had to stand in line again for another 15 minutes. As a paying customer, that is so rude and disrespectful, to make a customer stand in line AGAIN, for a mistake they made. First off, the fact that they were SO confused by the price, was appalling, I mean, that is their job right? To know prices and sales? Clearly their staff isn't trained well. Second, if they had just said the tag was wrong, I would have just left, and paid the extra, but when she said she would adjust, I thought "wow great customer service" Oh wait, never mind, she made me stand in line again because everyone else was "first". I should not have had to do that for a mistake THEY made, that's just poor customer service. This store is so unorganized, and the fact that the staff is so rude has made me choose to never go back there again. I will now go to Pleasanton or the city if i ever choose to shop at an Express Store again. And from the sounds of it from other reviews, I'm not the only one who has felt this way at this store.
