My "foodie" daughter suggested I expand my appetite for Asian food, so I went to Rosewood kitchen and ordered a dish the owner Joshua suggested - Rosewood twist surf and turf, Ramen. It will be prepared as spicy as you like. The dish was delicious and I would recommend it. There were cubes of beef, mushrooms, and shrimp tempura. I loved the corn and the green onions and bean sprouts. Joshua is a cordial host who will describe and recommend his Japanese cuisine. The staff are friendly and attentive, it's a great small crew that are very personable and kind. I really enjoy the Chicken Katsu at Rosewood. Sometimes I get it over noodles, and sometimes I just get the appetizer version with a nice cold beer. It really is the best Katsu around here. Always delicious and crispy, it's my go to. Rosewood Kitchen has been serving the downtown Oceanside area for over 3 years and they've come a long way. They were part of the strategic business partnership that kept many of their neighboring alcohol-based establishments opened during the quarantine of 2020 (by serving food to their customers) Originally, Rosewood Kitchen had a very diverse menu that ranged from Italian to European. They were known for their pizzas, lasagna and similar dishes. Actually, their menu was probably too diverse and lacked focus, making it difficult to keep up with the cost of maintaining qualitative ingredients. So, as of September 2023, Rosewood now is focused on more concise menu that is Japanese-inspired. This also resonates deeply with the owners roots in Japan and that the downtown area is lacking a proper destination for ramen. Playfully called Rosewood Ramen, this small-owned food destination now has a chance to shine with their menu price-points, with entrees all under $20 and appetizers under $10. They've also got $4 beer and wine specials. Located on Mission Ave and also serving neighboring establishments like Booze Bros and Coomber's, you can choose outside patio-dining or you can enjoy the earth-artsy interior that has plenty of couples seating and for groups as well. On Mondays they have live music from talented local DJs who keep the vibes mellow with Lo-Fi music, which compliments the ambience well. I love their gyoza appetizers, which comes either steamed or fried; they also have garlic edamame, katsu chicken, a cucumber salad (made with local veggies from our farmers market) or tempura brussel sprouts and more, all under $9. For dinner I had their black garlic Tonkotsu Ramen and it was amazing! The flavors were incredible and I love their use of duck confit fat in the broth. The portion size was also huge for being under $16 a bowl and I was completely & pleasantly stuffed and barely had room with my appetizer. Overall, I am REALLY love these new improvements to Rosewood Ramen and I appreciate that they've focused their menu on ramen and kept the prices so low! Their drink specials are great and I also love that they support local farmers & businesses too. So... we found this restaurant on Yelp while looking for a kid friendly restaurant in Oceanside, California. All the photos posted portrayed a wide variety of dishes that the kids would like such as pastas and pizzas; however, when we got there, the menu was very much limited compared to what we found online. We were limited to the typical Asian appetizers, Ramen and a couple pizza options. The Karaage was a bit bland/dry. We loved the gyoza -- it had a crisp outside and warm on the inside. The cucumber salad had a nice sesame flavor. The Shogun black pepper salad was okay. It came with a dressing that helped to enhance it a bit. My family had a couple of different ramen options which I tasted. The Birria Ramen was unique (not pictured) but I found adding the lime flavor was too strong. So this spot is our new favorite restaurant! Popped in because our son wanted ramen + pizza. He found it!! The food was amazing and then the music so surprised us. A lovely oasis in Oceanside, we ate in the outside arena and had a mighty tasty lunch. The beer selection was fairly extensive. I enjoyed a hazy IPA. We had a vegan in our midst, who got a plate full of toasted veggies and a "side" salad of substantial proportion. Other son had a seafood spaghetti which disappeared with alacrity. Mama enjoyed the soup and salad, and my fish tacos were wonderful, with a really delicious frijole refrito and salsa. Service was great; checking in frequently and keeping the water flowing. We went here for my birthday when we dropped by Oceanside and were disappointed, we thought from the great reviews that it would be good. I ordered the apple salad and I'm pretty sure that some of the greens were rotten. I had a really bad bite and just didn't finish the rest. We also ordered the fried rice balls as an appetizer and these were super gummy, the frozen section of Trader Joe's has better quality. My husband's chicken parmesan was good, so I would recommend that dish. Luckily, the gelato next door is amazing so we went there and enjoyed the rest of our night. read more

My sister and I ventured into this location two weeks in a row. The first visit was 5 star, the second visit was not. We were some of the only people at the location just before 4pm on a weekend and the owner was great. He came over while we were waiting for Booze Brothers to open up (it was late) and let us know about his beer options. $5 beers? Yes! They have a small beer list, but all good choices. We also got the birria ramen, which was amazing. It was such a nice visit, we came back a week later. The second visit was on New Year's Eve at about 5:30pm. The restaurant was not full, so we thought great! We ordered gyoza, two beers and a main dish. The beer and gyoza came out quickly. Very good stuff. The main dish? After waiting an hour, we canceled that order and paid for what we did receive. We were then told by the staff a large order was called in before us, and that's what delayed our dinner. I would love more communication next time or before we order. I will think about giving this place one more try as the food is great when you get it. read more

AUTOMATIC GRATUITY ADDED: An automatic gratuity (tip) of 20% is added to the bill! This isn't clear on the menu nor is it posted on the table outside. Then the receipt asks for additional tip. So basically, its a 20% uncharge/service fee on top of menu prices plus a solicitation for even more tip. I've seen this at hotels, fine restaurants, and banquets, I read that sometimes restaurants will charge for large parties because they expect to have additional staff on the table. We received no special attention or added service. I met a group of friends here. One of the friends, a vegan, raved about the place because she had visited on a night they served dinner and enjoyed her vegan options. We arrived after everyone was already seated. Anyway, I was expecting to enjoy Rosewood Kitchen but unfortunately that wasn't the case. PROS: Our waiter was friendly and able to give good menu suggestions. I wanted glass of red wine. Since they don't have a drink menu, I was just going to order a glass of merlot. She recommended a Malbec and I did really enjoy it. There was live music which wasn't overwhelmingly loud. We were able to carry on conversation without shouting. Very pleasant. Unfortunately, we went on a day they only offered Tapa's so this review does not cover their main menu. These were all small tapas appetizer size orders I ordered the Rosewood Wings they were flavorful $11 Nice flavor with a little kick but not overly hot. Not overly seasoned or saturated. White dipping sauce was very complementary. CONS: Croquetas $9 came with about 6 little croquette fried balls. They were fried so we gave it a minute to rest at the table before eating one. Still, it was hard to taste anything because they were so hot inside. Finished the wings and came back to have a second one. White dipping sauce was again complimentary - but it could not save the croquettes that lacked any flavor. nothing special. we would not order them again Fried Chicken Fries. $11 x 2 Fries were unseasoned and unsalted. Chicken was okay but the sauce was flavorful. Together the dish was underwhelming and meh. None of the menu items have ingredient list. I really feel there are certain foods, like mushrooms/onions/nuts, that need to be listed or if not listed, mentioned by the staff. My nephew is not a fan of mushrooms and this dish had them. Of course, he wouldn't have ordered it had he known. Lemonade: Not a fan. So to recap: We liked the waitress, wine. music and Rosewood wings We were not fans of anything else we ordered And it's a hard pass for us when automatic gratuities are added without it being posted because its so disingenuous. We dined at the Rosewood today. Initially, we were a bit apprehensive as the place was empty, but it was just after 1 PM. Our waitress/host was friendly and promptly took our order. Though the food took a little while, it was worth the wait. The steak salad was surprisingly delicious with tender steak, flavorful dressing, and fresh vegetables. The ramen, featuring a piece of flavorful pork belly and the best ramen egg we've ever had, was outstanding. The fried rice was very flavorful, and the steak was tender once again. Our favorite dish was the steak and fries, which had an irresistible umami flavor and was quickly devoured. We ordered the Caesar salad and brussel sprouts to start. It was pretty good. For entrees I got the pappardelle with ragu. The pappardelle was cooked right, and the ragu tasted good except it was like cat food, really mushy. The texture was a little too mushy for me, but had good flavors. My fiancé and I were visiting the area and we're craving pasta so we decided to Stop by, we were immediately sat on the patio, the restaurant only had 2 two other tables when we arrived. We were immediately served water and told of some specials. The waiter was super nice, but felt like he was spaced out a little bit. There was only 3 tables (all of 3 people or less) and after he delivered the waters it took him around 15 minutes to come back and take our order. We ordered a Caesar salad, lobster ravioli and the parpadelle ragu. The Caesar was really good and the croutons were amazing. The pink sauce on the lobster ravioli was to die for and the dish was a star. The ragu was really flavorful and amazing. Although it took over 30 minutes to get the food, the food was worth the wait. It was one of the best pastas I've ever had. Now that I'm writing this I am craving it again. The food is the star. I would give 5 stars if it was just about the food.
