    Chicken Ramen
    Lee D.

Small family run shop with huge menu and fast service. We got the spicy pork and chicken ramens, which were both good, but the chicken texture was a bit rubbery. I couldn't tell if it was boiled or cooked on the flat top that gave it that springy texture. The spam masubi and chicken karage were kind of dry, but overall this place satisfied our ramen craving. Decor is fun and cozy and no wait on a Saturday night.

YUM. What a delicious gem hidden in this strip mall. The space is decorated so fun, service is friendly, and everything is cooked to order. So fresh and authentic! Love supporting this local family business & can't wait to work our way through the whole menu.

I swung by during off peak lunch hours during a sleepy weekday. Service was prompt albeit with an attitude. Parking was free and ample. The place is decorated like a Japanese themed tavern. I was surprised by the kind of vegetable/ insoluble fiber toppings they offered for their ramen. I always like ordering extra vegetable toppings for better digestion and long-term satiation. This place offered peeled and boiled bok choy. Definitely not something a so called authentic Japanese ramen shop typically offers as that's really something more of a staple in Chinese or Korean noodle shops. Now the food itself looked very visually appealing but I was disappointed by the use of other unconventional ramen toppings such as peanuts. The broth was watery and wasn't very flavorful. The chashu itself was tough and overcooked. I wouldn't have used that particular cut of meat for chashu. It just doesn't have the right mouthfeel for it no matter how low and slow you cook them. Lastly, as I finished my meal in less than 10 bites or so. I couldn't help but to feel like I got what I paid for. It was a lunch time menu item with less to pay for and I guess that also came with lunchtime menu portions or less to eat in a bowl. Unless I am in the area and desperate for ramen, I wouldn't be returning. For those who grew up in Japan like I did, I would avoid it because you will be in for a disappointment.

The Tonkotsu's rich, a silky tide, With pork that melts and warms inside. The Spicy Miso, bold and bright, Will heat your soul and light your night. The eel rice bowl? A smoky treat, With savory notes and texture sweet. And cheese rolls, fried to golden hue, Surprise your taste buds through and through. The staff, with smiles, bring each plate, With care and grace--they never wait. The space is small, but filled with cheer, A cozy vibe that draws you near. So if you're hungry, cold, or blue, There's just one thing you need to do-- Head to Ten Gu, don't delay, And let their ramen make your day.

This spot was down the road apiece from an Airbnb we were staying at. We decided on Ramen and found this on Yelp, (of course). Nicely designed and decorated restaurant very cozy. Greeted with a warm and welcoming smile, we sat and were quickly attended to. My spouse and I ordered our meal with some direction from a friend. I must say Superior. Super fresh and flavorful. The restaurant started to fill up with patrons soon after. I think a great place for first dates or just a cozy spot to be with your spouse. A++

    Takoyaki!

Paid a visit here for dinner. Great ambience with the themed decor, attentive server and plenty of room inside for dining in. EVERYTHING we ordered was delicious! We started off with the vegetable egg rolls, fried tofu and pork cutlet. All three starters laid a perfect foundation for my spicy chicken ramen; you can choose between thick and thin noodles. The spicy-ness to it was great but I opted for more heat with hot sauce and chili oil. In the end, I had room for a little more food and got the Takoyaki (my favorite!) to top everything off. Great flavors all around. If you're looking for a good ramen spot, try Tengu.

Bought a takeout order of the Tengu Tonkotsu Ramen from their lunch menu and paid $2.50 extra to add an egg to it. It ended up only $0.50 cheaper than a regular order which comes with the egg. The restaurant is kind of small and cute, with a couple of small tables outside. Service was really quick, I got the takeout in about five minutes. It was very nicely packaged and tasted delicious.

Spicy pork ramen (pork is ground pork). Fresh and delicious
    Sandy A.

Seriously good, legit ramen with good and fast service. We had the tempura udon, spicy pork ramen, dumplings and edamame. All excellent. This is a very casual small restaurant in a strip mall that is always crowded (always!). If you come at peak times you might have a wait but what stood out is how attentive the staff is and they work hard to get you seated. Get the dumplings for sure- I think every single person there ordered them including us, they are tasty and made well. This is fresh food from a family run business. Big selection on the menu with pictures to help. Only wish they explained a few of the Japanese terms and ingredients as that is not always clear and you can't figure it out from the picture. I've been to Japan a few times and this ramen/udon made me feel like I was back there- mostly because of how fresh it is and the fact that the broth was savory and not salty. They have Japanese music playing and cute decor- love the large photos on the walls. This won't break the bank either - things are priced well and you get big servings for your money. I couldn't finish my ramen so I am getting two meals. It's really good, it's really authentic and that's confirmed by how busy they always are!

My kids and I was shopping on a Sunday, 12/29 and decided to try this ramen place. We were very pleased overall and shared the items that you saw on the pictures. They had one waitress but she was able to manage the small place. The Ramen came out quickly and the curry bowl was last. Very flavorful and the curry was even in the right spice level for my kids since I'm a wimp with the spicy stuff. Prices were affordable and they didn't mind that we share which is usual anyways for Asian cuisine (except for buffets of course).

    Chicken ramen to go
    Christine S.

Very nice inviting place. Located next to Urbane Kitchen on the West end of Vista Way. I ordered the chicken ramen to go which was packaged nicely so that the ingredients stay on top of the broth until you're ready to mix them in. The broth was a perfect balance of savory and not too salty. It had a complex depth of flavor that shows it was simmered over time. The toppings were fresh, and appropriately portioned for the noodles. The two egg halves were cooked perfectly with softened yolks and firm whites. My order was ready in less than 10 minutes, so it was the perfect way to take home a comforting meal on a cool evening.

Came in towards the end of the night about an hour before they closed. And we found this place on Yelp and we were pretty glad we came through. The ambiance was pretty casual and the workers were super helpful and quick with the service. My friend got the plain Udon and I ordered the Tengu Tonkatsu Ramen and we both shared the Cheese Egg Rolls and Gyoza and those were not bad at all. The cheese rolls were alright, pretty chewy and the gyoza was cooked pretty well. The tengu tonkatsu ramen was pretty good, I liked the broth and chashu. And my friend really thought the udon was yummy and classic. Would definitely pass by again if I'm ever in the area!

I'm giving this place 5 stars! Aside from the weird service that our waiter gave us, food was absolutely delicious! Fried oysters were so bomb! Spicy Ramen was the best ramen I've tried locally. Sushi was so good too! If definitely was so worth it!! I definitely recommend coming here on a date night!

Spicy Miso Ramen with udon noodles
    Tia L.

This place was cute with interesting Japanese decor all over the walls and decorative umbrellas hanging from the ceiling. The casual vibe was complimented by fast service and a very kind and communicative waitress. Food: -Fried oysters were too fishy for our liking and didn't taste very fresh. -The Eel rice bowl was also quite fishy. However, the seafood pungent flavor was balanced with sweet sauces. My brother who loves eel said the fishy flavor was fine to him but he thought the dish was a bit too bland. -Spicy miso ramen with Thin noodles was quite tasty and did have some spice to it. Classic. -Spicy miso ramen with Udon noodles were just as good. The udon noodles were thick and smooth and I think absorbed the broth less than the thin noodles. -Spicy miso ramen with minced pork was the table's favorite! The nutty flavor added a more complex taste to the broth and maintained a decent amount of spiciness. The minced pork also added a diversity of texture which was lovely.

For some of the best ramen that Oceanside has to offer, I recommend The Wu Lan Ramen located in the Plaza Del Oro Shopping Center, just south of the 76 Hwy. It's hidden behind the 24 Hour Fitness and CVS. The plaza has limited parking, but it isn't typically too crowded and you should be able to find parking in front of this family-owned ramen restaurant. They have a quaint and trendy ambiance and they placed a lot of care into their anime murals, which lends to a "whimsical" vibe. It's a nice blend of traditional elements & colors and modern (kawaii) accents. The interior is also spacious and has great seating for groups and is also good for couples too. Enjoy table seating or better-yet at their bar seating and you can chat with the friendly staff! They have a "staple menu" that is written in chalk on a board and then there's their menu that is very diverse. They also have a great Happy Hour menu with items priced below $8, including sake! I enjoy their pan-fried gyoza, salted edamame, miso soup, firecracker shrimp, fried calamari, chicken karaage and most other delicious dishes. Their sushi menu is also high quality grade and I feel is often overlooked and underrated. But their ramen is what shines the most! There are so many styles & varieties! There's a lot to customize and their broth is amazing! There are many tasty bowls, desserts and don't forget to grab a sake or a craft beer! I recommend checking Wu Lan Ramen the next time you're looking for some authentic ramen or sushi in the north side of Oceanside.

We settled on Oceanside in hopes of finding good food, as our weekend (end of Feb) had been full of a poor results. This place came up as very well rated on Yelp, as my friend and I searched for places to eat. It was a Saturday night with great weather. The red flag I should have read into was that the lone guy working that night was a one man show. He was doing it all in the front of the house. I tried to get us a table to sit outdoors but he just couldn't get to the table to clean it. After about 20 minutes he finally came and just moved all the bowls to the empty table next to it and wiped it down. When my friends finally arrived we all sat down to sticky menus that had NO descriptions. What you see on the website is exactly what they have on the menu. We had to wait to ask the server/host what each menu item meant. It took a while to get our food from when we ordered. Thank goodness for good company, I didn't clock it. The food options were limited and keep in mind for those who have children, most of the options come with a spicy kick, you'll have to explicitly tell them "no spicy"! There was a party who had been sitting for a while before we got there and a kiddo took a bite of pizza and was crying, screaming from it being so spicy. With my ramen the portions are tiny for what you pay, with 1 piece of meat, not enough noodles. Flavor wise it was spicy and bland. We ordered a couple appetizers which were not very good. The edamame was overly salty and soaked in soy sauce and the karaage was probably the only good thing and that was a little overfried. No one in our party finished our food or took any of the leftovers home. Save yourself the trip, not worth trying the "unique foods".

And said welcome for two? have that table right there! I was shocked, immediately feeling more than welcome. So now my hopes were high. Ordered the pork fried rice, house pho, and lotus stem salad with shrimp. Where to begin my goodness, I'm salivating writing this review only one day later. Let's start with the salad, never would I order this in my life but my girl knows her Asian cuisine very well, it was the first thing she picked. And my god, freaking unbelievable every bite I had was so so tasty! That dressing is incredible along with the onions, I don't know what they do to them but man oh man they were delightful. Now the pork fried rice, what a hit! The pork is sliced so unbelievably thin and with so much flavor too, and the fried rice was all very good. Definitely not the best fried rice I've had but it was still quite tasty, I feel it was just slightly on the dry side for a fried rice. But flavor was very tasty and some bites were not dry. And the pho!! Kabang, another hit!!! The broth, noodles, everything. And they serve it with beans sprouts and jalapeno which is a must add!! The crunchiness from the bean sprouts ties the whole bowl together! Will I be back is not even a question one should ask. Boy am I glad to have tried this place!!! 9.5/10 Lost .5 points because of the fried rice. What a beautiful spot!!! Apologies for no pictures I tend to forget when on a date.

Ordered two- one for now and one for later. I called before leaving and asked if they could make a vegan banh mi and was told yes, that it wasn't a problem. I specifically asked if there was anything in the sandwich that would make it not vegan- the employee said no that if I asked for vegan than it would be made vegan. So no pate and no mayo? Employee confirmed they don't use mayo and omit the pate for vegan. Great! So I ordered two, went to pick up and paid. After getting back to work and starting to eat my sandwich, I notice that there is a creamy taste. I called the restaurant and explained that they must have put mayo in my sandwich. The employee said there is no mayo in their banh mi, so I asked what the white cream was and he said it was butter. I said I couldn't have butter and butter wasn't vegan. He then said it was vegan butter and I asked three times to be sure if I was understanding him correctly. He then said he would go check the ingredients. He read them off to me on the phone and once I heard MILK, it was game over. I told him I can't have milk and milk Isn't vegan. Then a long awkward pause and he said, "it's not?" And I sad, no, it's vegetarian but definitely not vegan. He apologized and said he didn't know. *sigh* He offered to remake them without butter so then I had to drive back and waste more time and gas. So... I drove back. The sandwiches were remade but, I'm glad I do not actually have an allergy. As I was leaving, he told me that next time I ordered to tell them no milk. That bothered me a little bit because unfortunately this establishment does not know the difference between vegan and vegetarian. To be honest, I don't know if I will return. Now I'm questioning if what I ordered the last time I was here was vegan at all. :( If you're vegan and ordering here, I don't know that I'd trust they don't use any animal products in their ingredients. I feel like you would have to ask for a list of ingredients to be sure you're not surprised with anything.
