It's a guaranteed satisfying meal here. Today's order was Tuna and Salmon Nigiri, Tempura Combo, and Chicken Katsu Curry (always ordered). The food is consistent and consistently good. They truly have the best katsu curry. It'd be icing on the cake if the curry included carrots and potatoes. The Tempura Combo was like a sampler plate with all the other things we wanted - tempura, gyoza, chicken teriyaki, and yakisoba. We enjoyed dining outside today since we brought our pup along. There's never a long wait. Staff is efficient; clearing off tables, bringing additional condiments, napkins, and utensils. It's always service with a smile. The American in me says the portions need to be bigger , but after visiting Sunshine Kitchen well over a dozen times for both takeout and dine-in, this has become my go-to Japanese spot. I really like the Spicy Miso Ramen. It has a very distinct flavor, is always neatly presented, and is one of my regular orders. The Pork Katsudon is good too, although I do think it's a little heavy on the rice and light on the main portion. One thing I did find myself really enjoying today was the French fries! I very rarely order the sushi rolls here not because they aren't good or something I wouldn't eat, but because when I come to Sunshine Kitchen, I'm here for the Japanese plated meals and ramen. It's also a good spot for the family. My oldest son is extremely picky and doesn't like all the vegetables and extras that come with the ramen, while my youngest isn't nearly as picky and loves pretty much everything here. My group and i were really surprised at how good this place was. We all either were born/raised in japan or lived there more than 5 years. Never Judge a book by its cover lol We decided to try the katsu curry, tonkatsu ramen, and some sushi. Curry - delicious!!! I had the most amazing sushi here today and I'm still thinking about it. My aunt and I shared the spicy garlic edamame, the baked salmon roll, and the golden roll. I absolutely loved all three, and was absolutely blown away by the freshness of the fish and the overall delicious sushi. The golden roll was probably my favorite, as it had big chunks of tempura shrimp in every bite and the seared salmon just put it over the top for me. The service was also wonderful as well - the servers were all very sweet. It was an easy ordering experience, as we ordered and paid at the counter and then they brought the food over to our table. My mom and I met up in Oceanside for a little beach date and we're craving some sushi. I found this place online that I could reviews so we decided to go here. You order at the counter and they bring your food out to you, I appreciate the style of service cuz I just feel like it's a lot faster than waiting on your server to come to you. It seemed like the AC was not working inside so we opted to sit outside so at least we get some fresh air and breeze. Our food came out very quickly we both ordered the baked salmon roll and also their jalapeno Vegas tempera roll. Overall is good, no complaints. They do have a really expensive Sushi menu and other non Sushi items as well. If you're looking for some decent quality sushi in the area I would recommend this place. Delicious food, fresh ingredients, and great values! On our way to San Diego, we stopped by an in-between town to grab some lunch. We were so glad to have found Sunshine Kitchen through Yelp. This restaurant is located in a strip mall, and parking is ample out front. It appears to be family owned, and all the wait staff is extremely friendly. There are both indoor and outdoor sitting area, and it appears to be a favorite among locals. The menu is diverse with poke, ramen, fried rice, sushi, and many other Asian dishes. For lunch, I ordered the tuna/salmon poke and a salmon skin hand-roll. The poke bowl had generous serving and was very flavorful. My lunch tasted good, filling, and light. Our bill came to $50 with tips included, which was an excellent value for such a healthy and filling meal. As for service, the food came fast and the ambiance felt cozy and comfortable. Very good poke and grilled chicken salad, chicken karaage was cooked well however could have a used another minute in the frier to be more crispy. Poke was fresh and well seasoned. The rice was cooked perfectly. Portion size is good. It was a medium size bowl for $15. Chicken salad came with grilled chicken that took longer to cook. Sliced strips of cucumber, carrots, bell peppers and avocado. It was good with the Mac potato salad. $12 Sauces were delicious and service was friendly at the counter. This place looks unassuming but it's actually a hidden gem! The menu has a huge variety of food and there wasn't a single thing that I tried that missed. We had the pork katsu curry, which was delicious, and the katsu was perfectly tender and the rice coated in curry was the perfect flavor and texture. The yakisoba with chicken teriyaki was simple but well done. The chicken teriyaki was juicy and flavorful, and the yakisoba was not salty and a good bouncy texture. My friend had a spicy miso ramen which also looked so good and the little broth I tasted had a great balanced flavor. The star of the show was the Oceanside roll--we all agreed that it was one of the best sushi rolls we've had as of late. Opting for the spicy tuna for an extra dollar was the move, and we could tell that they used real softshell crab on top. I was traveling with my family and stopped by randomly in Oceanside. We ended up in this little plaza across the street from Oceanside HS. There were so many places to choose from and ended up choosing Sunshine! Were were not disappointed. The service was great and the waitress was really nice. However, the big thing for me is the food! I was staying at Mission Pacific Hotel down the street. This place is walking distance. Is in a strip mall. It looks new on the outside and inside. There's plenty of parking and seating. When I first walked in, I wasnt sure what to expect as it looked like any other japanese restaurant embedded in an outlet mall, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of all the food they made, and even moreso by the taste. I ordered the Pork Katsu Cutlet Curry as well as the Oceanside Roll, and the rest of my table ordered the Chicken Teriyaki Yakisoba, the Ramen, and a Pacific Roll. Everything was very tasty, but the standouts were the Oceanside roll (featuring real crab tempura on top which was an absolute treat) and the Curry. Service was quick and took less than 10 minutes to start bringing out food which was great, and the overall atmosphere, while not incredibly inspired, was also not offensive either. This quickly entered the top 3 of my favorite japanese restaurants in San Diego, and I am glad I was able to try it out! read more

Sunshine Kitchen is such a gem. We came in for dinner and everything was delicious and super fresh. I had the salmon skin hand roll and the Alaskan roll -- both were perfect. The hand roll was surprisingly buttery (salmon belly), and the Alaskan roll was light and tasty with a fair bit of masago. My boyfriend went for the pork cutlet curry, the rainbow roll, and the dragon roll. He had been here once before and the food was still just as good. The curry was really good - and had a solid serving size. The vibe in the restaurant is really relaxed and friendly, and the service was kind and attentive without being overbearing. You order at the counter and they give you a number stand to place at the table, so it was nice to not be disturbed much during eating. The waitress did offer a free refill of the fountain drink he got, which was nice. Definitely one of those places you find yourself wanting to come back to often. Five stars all the way. read more

This is such a gem of a place located conveniently right off of the 5 freeway at the Oceanside/Pendelton South exit. I was stuck in traffic for more than 5 hours because of the freeway closure and desperately needed food and drinks. I am so glad I discovered this restaurant through Yelp. I placed the order through their online order shortly before arrival. The restaurant has free parking right in the same strip mall type of setting. You place the order and pay at the counter before taking a seat. Someone will come right out to bring the orders. There are ample seats available both inside and outside of the restaurant. I ordered katsudon, chashu ramen, and teriyaki chicken platter. The latter came with generous portions of shrimp tempura, yakisoba, and grilled chicken. The total came out to be less than $38 for all that generously portioned food. I must apologize there's no pictures of the food because I vacuumed everything up. I was starving and literally scarfed everything down. So much so unlike usual, I have absolutely no pictures of food!!! It was that good! The katsu was tender and juicy and it perfectly complimented the rice, onions, and eggs underneath. The yakisoba wasn't too sweet and it tasted delicious with the teriyaki chicken. The shrimp tempuras were perfect. Not too much batter, crispy, and the shrimp flavored came through without the fishiness. The tonkotsu ramen arrived with bean sprouts, scallions, half a ramen egg, and two thick slices of pork chashu. The broth was nice and savory without it being too greasy. The noodles were cooked just right. It was nice and springy. But one of the best aspects about the visit was how hospitable the Japanese ladies working there behaved. I felt welcomed and actually regretted not ordering everything as a dine-in. I seldom ever feel like the Japanese restaurants in SoCal is all that hospitable. This experience was different. This place was cute, great and fast service, lots to chose from on the menu. We love a good plaza spot with plenty of parking. Food tasted really hot and fresh and great value for the amount you get. My son had sushi rolls and said it was and 8 out of 10. And they were gigantic in size so two rolls for a 22 year old was cheap because the boy can eat. Sunshine is a casual eatery with a good variety of Japanese/Japanese fusion dishes. I find them to be reasonable in terms of freshness/quality to what you'd get at Mitsuwa - like more grocery quality than fine dining restaurant quality. It is what I expect for the price I paid. The lunch specials have a lot of choices and was very good. They have both indoor and patio dining (patio is shaded/covered by a roof), but it is not a very large space. We had to charge our car so we tried sunshine kitchen. It's so good! I probably won't make a special trip for it but the food is very solid. Gyoza udon noodles, soup was good, the gyoza were ok. Broth was nice, udon was nice and chewy. Sushi, rice was flavored nicely - just good flavors. Poke bowl was delicious. Fish wasn't fishy. The sunshine sauce was sweet and slightly spicy.
