Da Soecial!
Samson A.

I was traveling with my family and stopped by randomly in Oceanside. We ended up in this little plaza across the street from Oceanside HS. There were so many places to choose from and ended up choosing Sunshine! Were were not disappointed. The service was great and the waitress was really nice. However, the big thing for me is the food! I had the special poke bowl. It was fresh and so yummy and filling. I really enjoyed it! Do next time you're passing through Oceanside, try it out. See you there!

Very tasty Japanese food tucked into a strip mall on Mission Ave. in Oceanside. Casual busy little family restaurant with an extensive menu. Stand in line & order at the counter. Food is brought to your table. A lot of good looking Sushi came out of the kitchen.Heavy 2 go restaurant. We had 2 different Ramens, both delicious. What we liked was that they weren't too salty Also, had the Tempura which was cooked in a light batter Will definitely put this spot in our regular rotation Only thing that was odd were the tiny napkins they give you! Otherwise, an A+ in my book.

This place looks unassuming but it's actually a hidden gem! The menu has a huge variety of food and there wasn't a single thing that I tried that missed. We had the pork katsu curry, which was delicious, and the katsu was perfectly tender and the rice coated in curry was the perfect flavor and texture. The yakisoba with chicken teriyaki was simple but well done. The chicken teriyaki was juicy and flavorful, and the yakisoba was not salty and a good bouncy texture. My friend had a spicy miso ramen which also looked so good and the little broth I tasted had a great balanced flavor. The star of the show was the Oceanside roll--we all agreed that it was one of the best sushi rolls we've had as of late. Opting for the spicy tuna for an extra dollar was the move, and we could tell that they used real softshell crab on top. Drinking along with a cloudy nigori sake made a perfect complement to the meal. Come here for no-frills Japanese food done well!

Sunshine Kitchen reminds me a lot of Teri Café, just tucked into a strip mall and more mom and pop vibe and the quality here is always solid. They have great lunch and dinner specials, and I keep coming back for the poke bowl because it's consistently well-made, fresh, and very reasonably priced. This time, my kiddo ordered the karaage and french fries, and we also tried the yaki soba noodles. Everything tasted like it was made with care. If you're craving a little island or Japanese comfort food without committing to a huge sushi bill, this place is absolutely worth a visit. You'll be able to order a dinner plate usually salad, rice, and your choice of a meat, or you can also get yakisoba, and quite a bit more. If you want a no-frills but yummy Japanese style food spot in Oceanside especially closer to the coast because you're craving Teri café, this is a great option.

I was staying at Mission Pacific Hotel down the street. This place is walking distance. Is in a strip mall. It looks new on the outside and inside. There's plenty of parking and seating. I came on a weekend for take out. They didn't seem too busy. The decor was super cute. I called in my order and it was ready when I arrived. The chicken curry was ok. The chicken could've been crisper. The curry was alright. I feel that this might not be their signature dish but it was what I was craving.?I might try a different dish next time I'm in town.

Really unassuming location with incredible food. When I first walked in, I wasnt sure what to expect as it looked like any other japanese restaurant embedded in an outlet mall, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of all the food they made, and even moreso by the taste. I ordered the Pork Katsu Cutlet Curry as well as the Oceanside Roll, and the rest of my table ordered the Chicken Teriyaki Yakisoba, the Ramen, and a Pacific Roll. Everything was very tasty, but the standouts were the Oceanside roll (featuring real crab tempura on top which was an absolute treat) and the Curry. Service was quick and took less than 10 minutes to start bringing out food which was great, and the overall atmosphere, while not incredibly inspired, was also not offensive either. This quickly entered the top 3 of my favorite japanese restaurants in San Diego, and I am glad I was able to try it out!

I've been coming here for the last five years, and I've never once been disappointed. Normally, I'm not a fan of ordering first and tipping before service but at Sunshine Kitchen, I gladly oblige. They've earned it every time. Menu: When my 12 and 7-year-old finish a full plate of curry and are still hungry, I start questioning if I'm raising them right but that's just how good the food is. They both had ramen afterward and finished every drop. I've tried so many items on the menu over the years, and honestly, I like it all. The layout and décor make the whole place feel warm, inviting, and comfortable. Overall, this is an easy 5-star experience and absolutely an Oceanside food staple.

We stopped by for a late lunch after a long drive. A perfect spot for a quick and affordable meal. They offer plenty of value-packed combo lunch specials. I tried the Cali Combo with Yakisoba noodles $11. It presents a satisfying spread of Japanese-American favorites: included two pieces of fried dumplings, four pieces of Cali Roll, savory Teriyaki Chicken, perfectly cooked with a rich, glossy glaze, and seasoned chewy Yakisoba noodles. My friend enjoyed their cold ramen as well. I definitely have to try it next time. The combination of excellent lunch plates like the Cali Combo and the genuinely spacious indoor environment and relaxing patio makes it the perfect spot for locals and beach-goers alike. Go support this local mom and pop spot!

A black tray contains multiple sushi rolls topped with chopped green onions and orange fish roe. The sushi is accompanied by a small portion of pickled ginger, wasabi, and a small plastic container of soy sauce with a lid. The presentation suggests a typical Japanese-style sushi meal, with fresh ingredients and garnishes.

A-OK, I had some sushi here recently, and it wasn't bad, but the tuna roll seemed like it was too much tuna all at once, so maybe not the best combo, but the curry and rice was great!

This location is across from the high school and the parking lot is busy but it's easily accessible from the 5. Good amount of inside and outside tables Diverse menu offerings from Ramen, sushi, poke, apps, noodle/ rice dishes means something for everyone. I got the tonkatsu Ramen and it was good!

My dear friend's mom owns this restaurant and we knew we had to come to support The staff is incredible friendly and the restaurant had good music taste when we went . We ordered calamari tempura, summer roll (this is a new roll! i love a good spicy tuna & salmon combo), the shoyu ramen (the broth is super light and veryyy good!), and the beef gyudon bowl (a special!) The restaurant serves authentic japanese food so if you need a good place to satisfy your craving, come here

Sunshine Kitchen is such a gem. We came in for dinner and everything was delicious and super fresh. I had the salmon skin hand roll and the Alaskan roll -- both were perfect. The hand roll was surprisingly buttery (salmon belly), and the Alaskan roll was light and tasty with a fair bit of masago. My boyfriend went for the pork cutlet curry, the rainbow roll, and the dragon roll. He had been here once before and the food was still just as good. The curry was really good - and had a solid serving size. The vibe in the restaurant is really relaxed and friendly, and the service was kind and attentive without being overbearing. You order at the counter and they give you a number stand to place at the table, so it was nice to not be disturbed much during eating. The waitress did offer a free refill of the fountain drink he got, which was nice. Definitely one of those places you find yourself wanting to come back to often. Five stars all the way.

Alan S.

You would not expect this place to have a variety of sushi and Ramen and Katsu plates, but that is exactly what sunshine kitchen has. The menu is like a dictionary and there's a variety of options for you to choose from that can fit every pallet. We opted for the Ramen and I would say the Thanh Katsu Ramen was better than the show you Ramen however overall both service and we got was pretty good. We also got a Terry chicken and tempura plate with also getting a side of chicken karrage. The whole restaurant is run pretty much like a café and the interior design is like a tropical café. With a try if you're in the area

Hi! I was wondering if the grilled salmon is cooked on the same surface that other meats are cooked on or if there's a different area to prevent cross contamination between them?

Hi! Our grilled salmon is cooked separately under a salamander, away from the meat grill, to avoid cross-contamination. Thanks so much for your question!

Is this place part of the Terri Cafes? Same menu and ordering process.

I don't believe so but I don't know why you thought it might be. From what I've read this appears to be a small family owned and run business.

When I first moved into the city of Oceanside, I lived in an apartment complex on Grove Rd…read more While doing a search for Asian cuisine in the area, I came across Wu Lan Ramen and after my visit, I had to write a review! For some of the best ramen that Oceanside has to offer, I recommend The Wu Lan Ramen located in the Plaza Del Oro Shopping Center, just south of the 76 Hwy. It's hidden behind the 24 Hour Fitness and CVS. The plaza has limited parking, but it isn't typically too crowded and you should be able to find parking in front of this family-owned ramen restaurant. They have a quaint and trendy ambiance and they placed a lot of care into their anime murals, which lends to a "whimsical" vibe. It's a nice blend of traditional elements & colors and modern (kawaii) accents. The interior is also spacious and has great seating for groups and is also good for couples too. Enjoy table seating or better-yet at their bar seating and you can chat with the friendly staff! They have a "staple menu" that is written in chalk on a board and then there's their menu that is very diverse. They also have a great Happy Hour menu with items priced below $8, including sake! I enjoy their pan-fried gyoza, salted edamame, miso soup, firecracker shrimp, fried calamari, chicken karaage and most other delicious dishes. Their sushi menu is also high quality grade and I feel is often overlooked and underrated. But their ramen is what shines the most! There are so many styles & varieties! There's a lot to customize and their broth is amazing! There are many tasty bowls, desserts and don't forget to grab a sake or a craft beer! I recommend checking Wu Lan Ramen the next time you're looking for some authentic ramen or sushi in the north side of Oceanside.

You queue up for an order at cashier first and the staff then finds you a suitable place to sit. Lots of art and posters on the wall to look at while waiting for the ramen to come out. The service was quick and efficient. The ramen was legit good. Was skeptical of the name, but he food was good. They also have a full bar/lounge area and al fresco dining on the patio outside. It's a great spot, next time I'm in town, I'll definitely check it out. Really liked the downtown area at night. Seems lively and a good place to hang. We settled on Oceanside in hopes of finding good food, as our weekend (end of Feb) had been full of a poor results. This place came up as very well rated on Yelp, as my friend and I searched for places to eat. It was a Saturday night with great weather. The red flag I should have read into was that the lone guy working that night was a one man show. He was doing it all in the front of the house. I tried to get us a table to sit outdoors but he just couldn't get to the table to clean it. After about 20 minutes he finally came and just moved all the bowls to the empty table next to it and wiped it down. When my friends finally arrived we all sat down to sticky menus that had NO descriptions. What you see on the website is exactly what they have on the menu. We had to wait to ask the server/host what each menu item meant. It took a while to get our food from when we ordered. Thank goodness for good company, I didn't clock it. The food options were limited and keep in mind for those who have children, most of the options come with a spicy kick, you'll have to explicitly tell them "no spicy"! There was a party who had been sitting for a while before we got there and a kiddo took a bite of pizza and was crying, screaming from it being so spicy. With my ramen the portions are tiny for what you pay, with 1 piece of meat, not enough noodles. Flavor wise it was spicy and bland. We ordered a couple appetizers which were not very good. The edamame was overly salty and soaked in soy sauce and the karaage was probably the only good thing and that was a little overfried. No one in our party finished our food or took any of the leftovers home. Save yourself the trip, not worth trying the "unique foods".

And said welcome for two? have that table right there! I was shocked, immediately feeling more than welcome. So now my hopes were high. Ordered the pork fried rice, house pho, and lotus stem salad with shrimp. Where to begin my goodness, I'm salivating writing this review only one day later. Let's start with the salad, never would I order this in my life but my girl knows her Asian cuisine very well, it was the first thing she picked. And my god, freaking unbelievable every bite I had was so so tasty! That dressing is incredible along with the onions, I don't know what they do to them but man oh man they were delightful. Now the pork fried rice, what a hit! The pork is sliced so unbelievably thin and with so much flavor too, and the fried rice was all very good. Definitely not the best fried rice I've had but it was still quite tasty, I feel it was just slightly on the dry side for a fried rice. But flavor was very tasty and some bites were not dry. And the pho!! Kabang, another hit!!! The broth, noodles, everything. And they serve it with beans sprouts and jalapeno which is a must add!! The crunchiness from the bean sprouts ties the whole bowl together! Will I be back is not even a question one should ask. Boy am I glad to have tried this place!!! 9.5/10 Lost .5 points because of the fried rice. What a beautiful spot!!! Apologies for no pictures I tend to forget when on a date.

Ordered two- one for now and one for later. I called before leaving and asked if they could make a vegan banh mi and was told yes, that it wasn't a problem. I specifically asked if there was anything in the sandwich that would make it not vegan- the employee said no that if I asked for vegan than it would be made vegan. So no pate and no mayo? Employee confirmed they don't use mayo and omit the pate for vegan. Great! So I ordered two, went to pick up and paid. After getting back to work and starting to eat my sandwich, I notice that there is a creamy taste. I called the restaurant and explained that they must have put mayo in my sandwich. The employee said there is no mayo in their banh mi, so I asked what the white cream was and he said it was butter. I said I couldn't have butter and butter wasn't vegan. He then said it was vegan butter and I asked three times to be sure if I was understanding him correctly. He then said he would go check the ingredients. He read them off to me on the phone and once I heard MILK, it was game over. I told him I can't have milk and milk Isn't vegan. Then a long awkward pause and he said, "it's not?" And I sad, no, it's vegetarian but definitely not vegan. He apologized and said he didn't know. *sigh* He offered to remake them without butter so then I had to drive back and waste more time and gas. So... I drove back. The sandwiches were remade but, I'm glad I do not actually have an allergy. As I was leaving, he told me that next time I ordered to tell them no milk. That bothered me a little bit because unfortunately this establishment does not know the difference between vegan and vegetarian. To be honest, I don't know if I will return. Now I'm questioning if what I ordered the last time I was here was vegan at all. :( If you're vegan and ordering here, I don't know that I'd trust they don't use any animal products in their ingredients. I feel like you would have to ask for a list of ingredients to be sure you're not surprised with anything.
