We tried the Brussel sprouts, which to my anti Brussel tastes were pretty good, the shredded pork and sauce were Devine. The sangria was ok, it didn't contain any fruit and lacked on the sangria taste I'm accustomed to. The food was really good, we all shared, everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I live in downtown Oceanside, where many restaurants exist. In the eight years that I've lived here , I've eaten at many of them at least once. I always wondered about Rosewood, but haven't tried it because it is Japanese which I know nothing about. Yesterday I had to try it. Maren, my server, reviewed the menu and suggested Shio Tonkotsu, a popular Ramen dish. I chose chicken over pork and was overjoyed by my choice. The chicken was so delicious as was the Ramen and the broth. Rosewood is a new adventure for me and I have to try their other dishes. We were trying to find a place that was a midway point between Temecula and San Diego to meet up with a friend. We settled on Oceanside in hopes of finding good food, as our weekend (end of Feb) had been full of a poor results. This place came up as very well rated on Yelp, as my friend and I searched for places to eat. It was a Saturday night with great weather. The red flag I should have read into was that the lone guy working that night was a one man show. He was doing it all in the front of the house. I tried to get us a table to sit outdoors but he just couldn't get to the table to clean it. After about 20 minutes he finally came and just moved all the bowls to the empty table next to it and wiped it down. When my friends finally arrived we all sat down to sticky menus that had NO descriptions. What you see on the website is exactly what they have on the menu. We had to wait to ask the server/host what each menu item meant. It took a while to get our food from when we ordered. Thank goodness for good company, I didn't clock it. The food options were limited and keep in mind for those who have children, most of the options come with a spicy kick, you'll have to explicitly tell them "no spicy"! There was a party who had been sitting for a while before we got there and a kiddo took a bite of pizza and was crying, screaming from it being so spicy. With my ramen the portions are tiny for what you pay, with 1 piece of meat, not enough noodles. Flavor wise it was spicy and bland. We ordered a couple appetizers which were not very good. The edamame was overly salty and soaked in soy sauce and the karaage was probably the only good thing and that was a little overfried. No one in our party finished our food or took any of the leftovers home. Save yourself the trip, not worth trying the "unique foods". read more

My cousin and I came here for my birthday and we were greeted at the door by Edwin. He was friendly and attentive. His playlist was great! All my favorite oldies songs! I love the style of both inside and outside. Would love to come back when they have live music or to just have a drink at the bar. Had a few sake shots which went down nicely before the meal. We started with the karaage appetizer and it was not super crispy but it didn't matter because the meal was juicy and full of flavor. Yummy dipping sauce too. After hearing what was in the surf and turf ramen I decided I had to have it. The broth was incredible! So flavorful! We were excited to try, but now I'm scared. I got the ramen with tonkotsu broth, it was spicy for some reason, but that wasn't the issue. The broth is sour, and smells like dirty dish water. It smells like it's gone bad. I tried to eat it and drink some because I wasn't sure but, It was so disgusting I could barely eat it. I also put no corn on my ticket and they gave me TONS of corn. My husband ordered some type of beef and noodles. The noodles were ok but the beef had that same sour dirty dishwater taste and smell. Also it has the most bland overcooked edamame I've ever had. I really wanted to love this place (it ahd been in my bookmarks for a year) but there were some disappointing drawbacks after our first visit. The place is nicely decorated; the vibe is exceptional. I love the art exhibition, the decor and the staff. The owner is nice and very helpful. The food... 3 stars. 45 to 50 mins (empty restaurant) for a bowl of ramen, that was served luke warm. The broth was great, but portion was small and overall, I expected more. I did not like the black garlic oil. $22 for a small bowl of ramen is too expensive for what it was. Edamame were way overcooked and mushy. I was disappointed by other customers: a couple with a toddler who was hammering the piano and pulling a guitar strings while we were eating. Disrespectful and annoying. It didn't seem to bother the owner. Would I got back? maybe for a concert night. I'll update my review then. read more

What an incredible find in Oceanside! We were searching for warm food & couldn't decide on what cuisine, and then we stumbled upon Rosewood Kitchen via Yelp... and wow I am so glad we did. The best ramen & Asian fusion! This spot is a whole vibe with lots of local art on the walls & right off Mission Ave so very convenient to all things O'side. On Monday nights, they have Beats & Eats where a group of guys mix different hip hop electronic beats in such a lofi chill vibe.. it was so good, great background music & felt soooo chill! We started with steamed gyoza & spicy garlic edamame. Loved the chili oil & scallions on the dumplings, and the edamame was perfectly steamed & seasoned too. Our server Joshua (also found out he's the owner) was so passionate about the menu & what they offer in each dish... yum. I chose the birria ramen, and Joey got the katsu chicken over garlic noodles. The broth for the ramen was phenomenal & it had so many flavors (hominy, cilantro, wild mushrooms, bean sprouts, etc!) and it all went so well together with the beef birria & noodles! Joey's katsu was perfectly crispy over the noodles, and the sauces on the side of the big plate went really well with the dish. I'm so bummed to have to write this. I'd been dying to check out Rosewood for a long time, but the food was so disappointing. 1. The Oceanside Ninja was the worst - actually inedible. It was beyond spicy. There was Zero description - just three little flames. There should have been a description or verbal warning of what it actually is. Still, it was INEDIBLE. I now regret not sending it back and getting our money back. We even added a whole bowl of miso brother (they were nice enough to give that to "water it down"). I took it home and added a container of vegetable broth - IN.EDIBLE. It hurt so bad after a spoonful that my insides were on fire. It hurt so bad. I've never had such a horrible experience - and we are people who love spicy food and enjoy a good sweat. Worse - there was no flavor. Just horrible burn. 2. Which takes me to my ramen. Advertised as the special with a combo of flavors, I was so excited. Presentation was on point (pictured). Sadly, no flavor in the broth!! It was supposed to mix sesame - which I looooove - but it was completely absent. The noodles were bland as heck. Top Ramen noodles, alone, are more flavorful. I really liked their older more "Italian" menu and we came several times during that era. The new Asian-fusion inspired menu seems like an experiment they are trying. One thing that was instantly off-putting was the menu. It was a laminated black menu with some pictures of the food. While I appreciate photos, the menu itself was tattered and kind of grimy. You immediately went from a possible 4-star experience to a 3-star. Here's what we ordered: * Garlic Edamame * Chicken Katsu & Garlic Noodles * Filet Mignon & Fried Rice * Shaken Steak N Fries The edamame was good. I thought the garlic noodles and fried rice dishes were okay also. Not great, but I ate everything on the plate (we also had not eaten yet). The steak & fries was really not very tasty. The fries get soggy if you don't eat right away. Saying a dish has "filet mignon" implies a lot of things. The meat was tender, but needed a bit more seasoning and some char would have been nice. Service was good. No complaints there, but there was a 3% "Service Fee" on our bill. Not sure what that is, but it's a sneaky thing that some restaurants try to do without informing us ahead of time. I didn't order any service fee but it's on my bill as if I did. Total was $95.44 for three dishes, a beer, sangria and a service fee. The server/owner seemed very enthusiastic about the dishes when explaining them. He was pretty kind. However, I was just not the biggest fan of the food. The portion was pretty small for the price. My plate costed around $20, but the garlic noodles were a bit dry and the meat wasn't the quality I expected (I usually would have filet mignon more tender and thick cut). My friend did not quite like the hardness of their noodles in the veggie ramen - we suspect their food was made first and sat out for a bit before serving since the soup wasn't steaming. I also seemed to find an eggshell piece inside my food, even though my order didn't include an egg. In the building itself, it felt pretty hot. Went to dinner with the in-laws last night and decided to try Rosewood Kitchen. There are roses hanging from the exposed wood ceiling. Art is everywhere that you can purchase. Vibes are top notch. The only thing that is preventing a 5 star is the service. It was only the owner working and they had a food supplier at one point trying to help out cause it was so busy. We wanted to go for Korean BBQ but the wait was too long and this restaurant had been on our "must-try" list, so we came here instead! I reserved a table but honestly we didn't need it. At 6 pm on a Saturday night, this place was not super busy. Also, don't let the name deceive you. Rosewood Kitchen is an Asian restaurant. Our server was nice and friendly but a little harried. We got the fried chicken karaage and Katsu as well as the steamed dumplings. The karaage was my favorite, followed by the Katsu and the dumplings equally. For the mains, we got a house special Tonkutsu which seemed to be the combination of miso and black garlic, the back garlic Tonkutsu, the garlic noodles with fillet mignon and the fried rice with chicken Katsu. For dessert, we got the green tea ice cream. I tried two of their house special cocktails (sangria and sake) and I hated them both. The soups were wonderful but I definitely enjoyed my friend's black garlic one more than my own house special. The fried rice and garlic noodles were excellent and I think I will go for one of those options in the future. Price wise, it is on point for an Oceanside eatery. We sat outside with at least 2 heaters on an April evening, so I'd recommend sitting inside if you get chilly quickly. read more

Our server,Joshuended up being the owner, he was very involved, i'm pretty sure he was the one who took our reservation over the phone! We had the tempura brussel sprouts as the appetizer, which was honestly the best dish we had there. Simple dish but it worked. 4/5 For the main I got the black garlic tonkotsu ramen. I had initially wanted to try just the shio ramen but our server steered me away stating that it was a bit bland. Apparently the black garlic doesn't do enough to hide the complete disaster that was the base broth. I'm convinced that it was literally just slightly salted water because it completely lacked the umami that ramen broth is known for. Also the portion size was small and the noodles soggy. All in all it was just straight up bad ramen. I've had far better instant ramen from Asian grocery stores. If they're not going to cook up a proper meat and bone broth then they may as well just bust out instant ramen flavor packets instead of whatever they've got. 1/5 My wife got the chicken fried rice. I didn't taste it but she mentioned it also tasted bland and portion size was again in the small side. She pointed out that the rice grains were still clumped together indicating that it was not pan fried long or hot enough. It also explains why it lacked the smoky "wok" flavor that people expect from fried rice. 1/5 This restaurant is really held back by the items coming out of the kitchen unfortunately. Rosewood Kitchen has been serving the downtown Oceanside area for over 3 years and they've come a long way. They were part of the strategic business partnership that kept many of their neighboring alcohol-based establishments opened during the quarantine of 2020 (by serving food to their customers) Originally, Rosewood Kitchen had a very diverse menu that ranged from Italian to European. They were known for their pizzas, lasagna and similar dishes. Actually, their menu was probably too diverse and lacked focus, making it difficult to keep up with the cost of maintaining qualitative ingredients. So, as of September 2023, Rosewood now is focused on more concise menu that is Japanese-inspired. This also resonates deeply with the owners roots in Japan and that the downtown area is lacking a proper destination for ramen. Playfully called Rosewood Ramen, this small-owned food destination now has a chance to shine with their menu price-points, with entrees all under $20 and appetizers under $10. They've also got $4 beer and wine specials. Located on Mission Ave and also serving neighboring establishments like Booze Bros and Coomber's, you can choose outside patio-dining or you can enjoy the earth-artsy interior that has plenty of couples seating and for groups as well. On Mondays they have live music from talented local DJs who keep the vibes mellow with Lo-Fi music, which compliments the ambience well. I love their gyoza appetizers, which comes either steamed or fried; they also have garlic edamame, katsu chicken, a cucumber salad (made with local veggies from our farmers market) or tempura brussel sprouts and more, all under $9. For dinner I had their black garlic Tonkotsu Ramen and it was amazing! The flavors were incredible and I love their use of duck confit fat in the broth. The portion size was also huge for being under $16 a bowl and I was completely & pleasantly stuffed and barely had room with my appetizer. Overall, I am REALLY love these new improvements to Rosewood Ramen and I appreciate that they've focused their menu on ramen and kept the prices so low!
