Wow, my last review of Pho House was about seven years ago, but between then and now I've probably visited a few more times. Lately, I've been searching for a new go-to pho spot, and this place is definitely climbing back up my list. The staff was professional and attentive, and the restaurant itself was very clean. The dining room, bathrooms, tables, and sauce stations were all well maintained. I also appreciated the hand sanitizer available at every table small detail, but a nice touch. I ordered the regular pho for about $15 and really enjoyed the broth. The meats were tender and flavorful, especially the brisket and tripe. Portion sizes definitely seem smaller compared to the oversized bowls many spots used to serve years ago, but honestly it works well if you're trying to avoid overdoing it. My son ordered the grilled pork chops with rice. The flavor was good, especially paired with the fish sauce, though the pork chops could have been a little hotter and had more of that grilled flavor. Parking can sometimes be tricky depending on the time of day, but today it wasn't an issue at all. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and especially the broth. Pho House is definitely becoming one of my preferred pho spots in Oceanside again. read more

My experience was underwhelming, I called Pho House in advance to order two beef pho, Thai tea boba and a Vietnamese coffee and was told it would take 10 minutes. When I arrived at Pho House, I was told that the boba for the tea was not ready and would take 10 more minutes after paying $60, which included a $10 tip. I was understanding and didn't mind waiting another 10 minutes. I was the only customer in the restaurant and waited for my order for over 25 minutes, while the staff were socializing (in a language not everyone understands). I spoke up and said I had been waiting over 25 minutes for the Thai tea boba after being told it would only take 10 minutes. The staff said the boba takes time to prepare and I responded that they should have given a realistic lead time. As a customer, I felt ignored, alienated and forgotten about. I have nothing against different cultures but it's not polite or welcoming for staff to be socializing in a manner that is ethnocentric and exclusionary, acting like customers are invisible. A word of advice to customers: don't tip staff in advance but only tip if they deliver on what was agreed, and no less. Tipping staff who are not truthful or go back on their word is a waste of money. Tipping is not mandatory but only if the service meets expectations. Staff who don't care about their customers are not deserving of tips. read more

Updating my previous review. I had seen someone post that they had a vegan banh mi sandwich. I decided to grab a banh mi sandwich on my lunch break. Ordered two- one for now and one for later. I called before leaving and asked if they could make a vegan banh mi and was told yes, that it wasn't a problem. I specifically asked if there was anything in the sandwich that would make it not vegan- the employee said no that if I asked for vegan than it would be made vegan. So no pate and no mayo? Employee confirmed they don't use mayo and omit the pate for vegan. Great! So I ordered two, went to pick up and paid. After getting back to work and starting to eat my sandwich, I notice that there is a creamy taste. I called the restaurant and explained that they must have put mayo in my sandwich. The employee said there is no mayo in their banh mi, so I asked what the white cream was and he said it was butter. I said I couldn't have butter and butter wasn't vegan. He then said it was vegan butter and I asked three times to be sure if I was understanding him correctly. He then said he would go check the ingredients. He read them off to me on the phone and once I heard MILK, it was game over. I told him I can't have milk and milk Isn't vegan. Then a long awkward pause and he said, "it's not?" And I sad, no, it's vegetarian but definitely not vegan. He apologized and said he didn't know. *sigh* He offered to remake them without butter so then I had to drive back and waste more time and gas. So... I drove back. The sandwiches were remade but, I'm glad I do not actually have an allergy. As I was leaving, he told me that next time I ordered to tell them no milk. That bothered me a little bit because unfortunately this establishment does not know the difference between vegan and vegetarian. To be honest, I don't know if I will return. Now I'm questioning if what I ordered the last time I was here was vegan at all. :( If you're vegan and ordering here, I don't know that I'd trust they don't use any animal products in their ingredients. I feel like you would have to ask for a list of ingredients to be sure you're not surprised with anything. read more

For incredible bò broth in North County, look no further than Pho House! I was craving Bún bò Huế during a long commute down I-5, and Pho House Oceanside was my best lead between OC and SD. In fact, traveling to Pho House Oceanside may have been my first time driving down SR 76, so once I got used to the Mission off-ramp I was glad to find the small 'Mission Camino' sign clearly marked with "Pho House." I was absolutely pleased with my comforting bowl of soup. The broth was spice-forward, so my meal was flavorful and aromatic without overwhelming saltiness. Lots of fresh veggies both topped my bowl, with lots of extra veggies on the side. A squeeze of lime gave my soul the perfect brightness. For some reason I thought it would come with both a beef shank and a pork hock, so I didn't specify my preference; the default was a hearty and tender leg of beef. The meats had an extra peppery spice to them, which I personally really enjoyed, but still found myself bracing for bold bites of peppercorn. They have a spacious private lot shared with other retail shops, and I was mainly competing with folks parking for the fresh fish market nearby. Pho House's dining room is clean with lots of small group seating, and I imagine they could combine some tables for larger parties, perhaps not suitable for a large event. The bowl came with a lot of onions and cilantro, so that upset me a lil just because the server "memorized" it but the pho still came with it in there and when we were previously here about 3 1/2 weeks ago they did the same thing. The steak .. omg.. I'm pretty sure that wasn't steak. It tasted like chicken, and it usually doesn't look the way it did. I got a Sprite because of how sick I was feeling, and it was so flat, like how can a can drink be flat ? It was no fizz .. I've been going to pho House For over 20 years and it has never disappointed. It is the best Pho In all of San Diego County, even beating out any restaurant on convoy Street downtown. Owner is super nice. Portions are awesome. I always get the rare steak and my wife gets the beef ball PHO And we also get the spring rolls. On our way up before leaving I always make sure to get a Vietnamese coffee because they make it really good here. Nice and strong. Highly recommend. Oh The word is getting out. RUDE STAFF. I had a disappointing experience here. I ordered a kids-size pho because I wasn't very hungry that day, even though I usually order a regular size. When I asked for bean sprouts, the staff member who approached me was rude and told me they don't come with the kids portion unless requested ahead of time--something that was never communicated. Both he and another staff member kept emphasizing that the kids-size soup is meant for children, which I already understood. Instead of simply explaining their policy politely, they made me feel uncomfortable and judged for my order. If there's an issue with adults ordering a smaller portion, that should be clearly stated upfront--not handled by making customers feel bad. For Oceanside, this is a decent pho place. Went with my family and they enjoyed their bowls. I got the bun bo hue and it was the SPICIEST one I've ever had. I eat it regularly in OC and at family's houses and this one has almost inedible levels of spice. I'm not sure if they messed up or if this is how they make it but I passed it around the table and let my family try and none of them could safely eat more than 2-3 bites before breaking out in a sweat. Wowie wow wow! Walked in and the worker was talking to two customers at the cash register. Within a second of walking in, he looked up stopped his conversation. And said welcome for two? have that table right there! I was shocked, immediately feeling more than welcome. So now my hopes were high. Ordered the pork fried rice, house pho, and lotus stem salad with shrimp. Where to begin my goodness, I'm salivating writing this review only one day later. Let's start with the salad, never would I order this in my life but my girl knows her Asian cuisine very well, it was the first thing she picked. And my god, freaking unbelievable every bite I had was so so tasty! That dressing is incredible along with the onions, I don't know what they do to them but man oh man they were delightful. Now the pork fried rice, what a hit! The pork is sliced so unbelievably thin and with so much flavor too, and the fried rice was all very good. Definitely not the best fried rice I've had but it was still quite tasty, I feel it was just slightly on the dry side for a fried rice. But flavor was very tasty and some bites were not dry. And the pho!! Kabang, another hit!!! The broth, noodles, everything. And they serve it with beans sprouts and jalapeno which is a must add!! The crunchiness from the bean sprouts ties the whole bowl together! Will I be back is not even a question one should ask.
